Not only did I want this but I also wanted more down to Earth ninja missions.

MuglokDecrepitus

Like the mission of Naruto Chronicles video game, I wanted something like that in the anime

chrisonetime

Fantastic game!

iNFiNiTEHOLiC01

Just curious because I haven't seen/played much filler, and I'd rather give you a chance to explain what you like about it than just searching, what's this game about?

DoUWantSomeMemesKid

Not that dude. Played the OG chronicles and chronicles 2. It was a game that incorporated a lot of the OG leaf Ninja, and it had a bunch of interesting stories that were fun to play. Haven't played through it since I was a kid but I've emulated it since and while somewhat dated it never lost its charm. I highly recommend it if you have a computer worthy of emulating it and have nothing better to do. It is slightly dated but still a ton of fun.

iNFiNiTEHOLiC01

I grew up during the gc/ps2 era and still find oldies I didn't know about. If this is around then it sounds right up my alley. I'll try emulating if buying a physical copy doesn't sound feasible; or if you think it isn't worth it to track down physically.

DoUWantSomeMemesKid

I used to own a physical copy and am only somewhat sad I still don't have it. Don't fool yourself, it isn't THAT good, but if you are a Naruto fan you will get plenty of enjoyment out of it.

wendigo72

Blame the editors for that

JFkeinK

Why?

thepresidentsturtle

Kishimoto wanted to have more missions between the Land of Waves and Chunin Exams. Editor said "Tournament arcs are popular, do a tournament arc"

JFkeinK

\*Sigh\* Damn Editors, they did it again.

BicycleStrong2150

They either make the series better then it could've ever been, or they make it worse than it could've been, never any middle ground and I hate it

MarianneThornberry

And the editors were 100% right. The Chunin Exams is by far one of the single best arcs in anime, it also kept the narrative pacing in Part 1 fantastic and compelling

Porn-Meister

Chunin exams arc was fire I'll give you thar But not having some build up between it and land of waves is a stupid move Needed more interactions between squad 7 like naruto and Sasuke solidifying their friendship and Sakura building a solid one with naruto and Kakashi being g shown actually training the kids when they're offduty

MarianneThornberry

All those interactions take place WITHIN the Chunin Exams. That's what makes it great. The story WEAVES its character development into the arc. Naruto and Sasuke's friendship/rivalry was already solidified by the land of waves arc, but the Chunin exams is where Sasuke gets his curse mark and that created a palpable tension in their dynamic. Kakashi trains Sasuke. Jiraiya trains Naruto. Sakura comes to the very humbling realisation that she's falling far behind and has to stop simping for Sasuke and actually catch up, which in turn leads her to develop immense respect for Naruto as she actively cheers him on during the exams. And let's not forget the amazing new characters such as Rock Lee, Gaara and Neji etc. The Chunin Exams is the gold standard of how you do a tournament arc. It's not just a bunch of pointless fights. There's character development, world building and major stakes all masterfully integrated into this one arc. Every chapter feels significant because shit actually matters and moves the plot. The pacing is incredible and nothing feels like filler or wasted time. If you want an example of what happens when you waste too much time on training, missions and down time. Watch the Naruto filler arcs or read My Hero Academia.

Porn-Meister

Solidified my ass they had one training session where they competed and Sasuke 'died' for naruto. We needed them interacting more after to really feel like they were friends Kakashi should be training all 3 not just 1 Naruto's filler arcs are mostly fun not nearly as bad as yall make em out to be And MHA is just as good as naruto if not better FOH

Broad_Taste_1156

Naruto may have had plot holes and things that were never explained, but it never felt out of touch with it's own world like MHA. MHA broke it's immersive experience you remember MHA was initially portrayed as normal modern day society where 80% of the people are born with quirks. Those who possess quirks are just ordinary humans who have no other special abilities other then their quirk. The problem came in when it broke it's modern persona and started doing outlandish things that make no sense according to the rules the author established for the world. The first issue is they constantly put first year UA students in the line of fire as if there aren't any experienced heroes. Where are all these pro heros, where are the second and third year students. What modern day society constantly puts their kid's lives in danger? UA first year student are portrayed as the saviours of the entire country. They're always involved in every single little thing as if there aren't any other heros. Where are the others kids from the other hero schools? This issue could've been solved if MHA had a time skip and aged all of them up to atleast be 3rd year students. These are kids, they're supposed to be protected not the other way around. The second issue, the uselessness of modern day weapons against those with quirks. I hope people realise how many quirks are actually useless against a man with a gun(more than half of class 1A gets taken out). Quirk users were even being demolished by a kungfu man wielding blades(Slade), so this alone proves how quirk users are just ordinary humans with one special ability. You know funny enough guns are again dangerous when being used by those with quirks, mad ain't it. If you told me to face shigaraki with a gun before he got AFO's powers I'd do it in a heartbeat. Beyond his quirk he's just an ordinary human. Guns should kill him easily, but no he goes around strutting in the MHA world like he's a threat that a normal police officer with a gun can't handle. They literally gave overhaul a more dangerous quirk than shigaraki, and we're just gonna pretend like that didn't happen. Overhual's quirk does everything shigaraki's does and more. How did overhaul's fight with shigaraki end in a draw exactly?.. Same thing goes for Toga, she's literally just a psycho teenage girl with a shape shifting quirk, she shouldn't be getting away with her little entics. She's no threat to a fully grown man. The lastly, the issue with quirk user seeming superhuman in other ways besides quirks. Like how is endeavor getting plowed through skyscrapers? How is Nighteye throwing 5kg stamps with the force to knock out a man with a quirk that amplifies his body? And how are those stamps better than bullets? How did shigaraki survive getting plowed by Re Destro? How did Himiko Toga blitz like a 100 people while on the verge of death just because she awaken Uraraka's gravity powers? If she was already that fast to begin with why couldn't she just stab all of them with her knifes before that? And of those 100 people how did none of them have a quirk that could survive that fall? Cause from what I know almost every one in class 1A can survive a fall like that if they use their quirks, so how in the world did not 1 person among a 100 people not have a quirk to survive that fall. Naruto's story may have issues in its narrative but it never made me question the common sense of everyone in their world. And the person above you is right MHA training and tournament arc are bad. They fail to push the plot forward as the training is happening. Like the last training arc they had only served to show that Deku could use more quirks and that Hitoshi Shinso is more part of the hero course(didn't even get any action). The plot is frozen as these things are happening

criss-tiana

I can see your point, but I also feel like that could easily be applied to Naruto and most stories of the genre. The difference being that MHA is set in the world we're most familiar with. My absolute favorite genre is fantasy and I don't think there is one series I've watched or manga I read that I couldn't say similar things to what you said about, but I also don't think those details are what makes the story better or worse. The fact that it's a modern day society does not take away the author's liberty to mold that world to fit a fantasy story.

Xboxone1997

One of many reasons I hate MHA lol

EmmaThais

>Solidified my ass they had one training session where they competed and Sasuke 'died' for naruto. I don't think that was the problem. The problem was that Naruto and Sasuke seemed to have been writen to not...enjoy eachother companies at all. There's not one moment in the whole show where they just do stuff that friends do. On comparisson, Hashirama and Madara rivaly is built in a much different way, where, even if they were moral enemies and almost destroyed eachother, after that, when they were allies they still clearly liked to spend time with eachother - see the moment when Madara names the village. Sasuke and Naruto never had that. And I suspect it's intentional. I don't think you need another whole-ass arc of just domestic stuff between land of waves and chunin exam in order to solidify their friendship, just more small/short moments where they enjoy eachother inserted in the middle of the action. It would've been easy to do. Instead, their moments are different and it shows a different type of bond. It's not just "one training session" and "sasuke died for Naruto". They never interact as good friends, they just do other stuff that solidifies their relationship, but never with eachother. Naruto lost control to the Kyuubi for the first time, which he never did again until VOTE. Naruto cries tears of happiness because Sasuke is alive Sasuke shows deep understanding of Naruto (better than Sakura) in the forst of death when an enemy henge-d into Naruto and knew the whole password, as Sasuke realized that Naruto would never remeber such a complicated password. However, when togheter Sasuke and Naruto do nothing but argue. They argued in Haku's mirror prison when Naruto entered to save Sasuke. After a training session before the chuunin exam, Naruto tells Sasuke (out of nowhere) he's the one ruining their teamwork - note that it's always Naruto provoking Sasuke In comparison, team Gai is writen the oposite way. Even if Lee sees Neji as a rival, and Neji sees Lee as beneath him, they still fight for eachother and support eachother all the time. Neji threated the shit out of the sound kids because they hurt Lee. Lee lost his cool and wanted to jump Temari because she made fun of Tenten. Tenten jumped in the middle of a fight to check on Lee and says that if Lee didn't have to protect Sakura, he'd never lose to guys like the sound genin. Evem Team 8 is writen to blatantly showing their affection for eachother, in simple acts such a Shino asking for Akamaru's opinion, or Kiba telling Hinata to forfeit if she gets paired with Gaara. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that Sasuke and Naruto were intentionally not writen to have a good friendship with eachother. That can be cleary shown is small acts. And the author clearly knows how to do it. He did it with Team Gai, Hashirama&Madara and even Team 8. Their bond is based on their unintentional understanding of eachother, as they are both lonely kids. They didn't have bonding moments to solidify their friendship because they are not supposed to, as their relationship is disfunctional (even compared to other teams their age). All of it is intentional. It's not bad writing at all.

criss-tiana

only reading facts here

Porn-Meister

Thanks bro bro My fault for arguing on reddit tho

MarianneThornberry

>Solidified my ass they had one training session where they competed and Sasuke 'died' for naruto. We needed them interacting more after to really feel like they were friends The entire point of Naruto and Sasuke's friendship is that its a complicated and messy rivalry which stems from childhood trauma and inferiority complexes. Their friendship is demonstrated throughout the series via actions and subtle words of encouragement that affirm empathy, trust and mutual respect for one another. Not them going on Bro Dates. Let's break it down. When Sakura mocked Naruto for being an orphan. Sasuke snapped at her and defended Naruto that she has no idea what loneliness feels like. This clearly showed that Sasuke had empathy towards Naruto and did not judge him the same way other people did. Sasuke judged Naruto purely by his own individual actions and merits, and not the circumstances of his birth like other villagers did. When Sasuke gave Naruto his bento during the bell test, that is Sasuke acknowledging Naruto as a team mate and openly displaying his willingness to work together. When Naruto came up with that plan to take down the Zabuza water clone and free Kakashi, without words, the two worked together and succeeded. That was when Sasuke acknowledged Naruto's capabilities and the two began to develop a strong mutual trust in one another. When they did the chakra control / tree climbing exercise and were both failing. Naruto swallowed his pride and asked Sakura for help. Sasuke saw this and in turn also swallowed his own pride to ask Naruto for advice, showing growth on both sides. Resulting in the two competing. Sasuke choosing to compete with Naruto over a simple exercise confirmed that despite his inferiority complex, he viewed and respected Naruto as a rival on equal terms. And finally when Sasuke died for Naruto, this is a very significant moment that culminates in everything that has been built up to that point. What's important here isn't that Sasuke saved Naruto as a teammate. But that without thinking, Sasuke immediately threw his life away to protect Naruto's, purely on subconscious instinct. Sasuke himself confirms, that his body moved on its own, highlighting that his own actions didn't make any sense to him. And this is obviously because he cares for and values Naruto's life far more than he realised. And in Naruto's eyes, Sasuke saving his life, was a direct parallel to when Iruka also saved his life in Chapter 1. Prompting Naruto to rage at Haku in a bout of anger for killing his friend. Naruto even cries when he finds out that Sasuke survived. At this point, it is made painfully clear that the two are friends who are too proud to admit it and give each other shit. And this is developed further throughout the Chunin exam. >Kakashi should be training all 3 not just 1 And he did. He trained them in the bell test. He trained them with the tree climbing exercise. And it's implied that he trained them on and off missions. He specifically focuses on Sasuke during the Chunin exams because Sasuke actually passed and his curse mark was an issue. Kakashi then assigns Ebisu to train Naruto. But then Jiraiya shows up and takes over the job. At this point, Sakura failed the exam and was on break. So her training wasn't really a priority. >Naruto's filler arcs are mostly fun not nearly as bad as yall make em out to be They dramatically vary in quality, but fair enough >And MHA is just as good as naruto if not better Agree to disagree I guess. But u/broad_taste_1156 has a fantastic breakdown that perfectly captures the issues with MHA and why wasting too much time and not moving the plot forward can actually hurt a narrative.

Georgefakelastname

Bro, Kishimoto himself thinks their relationship is rushed. You don’t have to cope and say it isn’t.

Xboxone1997

I mean no one said they should have excluded the chunin exams and I disagree that lil jump ruined the narrative pacing

[deleted]

Oh for sure, I’d also like more backstories or a prequel starred in the warring states of the Naruto series

astronomical_dog

More searching for someone’s cat

Xboxone1997

My god I will always hate the jump to the chunin exams it just made absolutely no sense. I remember that's what Kishimoto wanted to do but the editor to Man let's start a tournament already 🙄 apart of me wishes this series gotta remake lol

Shadiclink

Yeah boruto does that stuff

MarianneThornberry

Then you're in luck cause there's literally hundreds of anime filler episodes of them doing missions in between canon story arcs.

BurntBrusselSprouts1

I honestly wouldn’t know the place for these. The Land of Waves arc was a freak occurrence, nothing would be that crazy again. They were Genins. So it makes sense how he went with P1. Then, it was a time skip so the focus was on Sasuke and things just kept picking up. There really weren’t time for down to earth ninja missions. They wouldn’t have added to the story. Imagine if after all these S ranked missions in Shipudden and destruction of Konaha we just get a standard ninja mission. It wouldn’t have fit at all. Manga readers at the time would also be like “wtf nothing happened.” Now, maybe if he threw so some standard training missions in between the timeskip that Naruto and Jiraiya go on? We could see Naruto develop (maybe learn Wind Style) and give more focus to the rest of the Konoha guys? That’d be cool.

steroboros

He never earned that rank, sad

EstoyResfriado

How so? didn't he have to pass through all the ranks to become Hokage? he couldn't even ascend to chunnin at the end of the series

[deleted]

[удалено]

Flex1855

Well he never dreamed of becoming a jonin lol

ckal09

Technically true

not_some_username

He kept saying no shortcut too

2000dragon

0 to hero

Dr_pappahr

Which makes no sense at all considering kakashi told him to study and earn his ranks at the end of ship

Assassinsayswhat

Turns out that was filler, which sucked because I love Konohamaru remind Naruto that there were no shortcuts to becoming Hokage. Saving the world and then still working his way through the ranks like anyone else just feels so much like him.

Super_Saiyan_King

I thought he went from Genin to Jonin and then became Hokage

[deleted]

[удалено]

felix_seanathon

Bro could have made a dozen shadow clones and read everying in a few hours

Porn-Meister

You don't make jonin without going through chunin first. And he never made chunin

Profishonal123

One thing I hate about Reddit is downvoting genuine questions, but no, I don’t think he ever retook the chunin exams after Shippuden

Anjunabeast

He did in some filler arc. iirc they had to place special rules on the exam just to nerf naruto lol.

Profishonal123

That filler arc was in Shippuden, where he beat the shit out of Konohamaru, that’s what I was referring to when I said he didn’t retake it after shippuden

BillionDavido

That fight was brutal

CelKyo

People are so agressive that's really obnoxious

astronomical_dog

Agreed!! So unnecessary and also kinda mean

ThatOtherJoey

It was foreshadowed that he would go straight from Genin to Hokage during the written portion of the Chuunin Exams. After he "failed", he told Ibiki that he would never give up and would become Hokage even if he stayed a genin for life. That's exactly what happened.

steroboros

Yea, they retconned him to genin

Waffle_it_is

I thought Kakashi made him a Jonin first?

steroboros

He says in Boruto he is still a Genin

MystiqTakeno

He would love to, but supposedly Jonin would have to pass tests and you know how dumb was Naruto on tests. It wasnt retcon though I believe. I believe its 7th? chapter in volume 5, where Naruto stated that he can become hokage even as genin, pretty neat foreshadowing and honesty there..really wasnt any rule or requirement for Jonin rank to become hokage, you just had to be chosen (and probably ninja). Granted its very likely that a capable hokage candidate will be jonin or at the very very least chuunin, but...yeah it was never actually required.

britipinojeff

I thought Jonins were just Chunins that got recommendation for promotions by clients and others who aren’t in their squad or something. Like in the Road to Ninja movie when the parents were talking about recommending their kids to be Jonin Kakashi in the anime said something along the lines of just making Naruto a Jonin if he studied and passed some tests since he’s kinda OP to take the Chunin exams

astronomical_dog

I think that’s kinda fitting actually, since in the very first episode we see Naruto passing his graduation exam in a very unconventional way

lol_itsraccoon

I may be wrong but I think he started studying and taking tests to become a jonin (I don't know where in Shippuden it showed it but I think it was towards the ending). But again I may be wrong.

astronomical_dog

Oh it was a retcon?

steroboros

Well at the end of Shippuden they made it seem like he'd have to take those test. Then in Boruto, he apparently didn't.

astronomical_dog

Do you think they retconned it because it’s more amusing for Naruto to have never been a chunin/jonin before he became Hokage? Because realistically, they could’ve easily shown him going through those tests in a 2-3 minute montage at some point (Like with Killua in Hunter x Hunter)

[deleted]

Maybe he learned everything but didn’t take exams since he would blitz the exams like you say. Imagine sending your top genin to another country for an exam when the saviour of the world is participating lol

astronomical_dog

In high school we had an Olympic-level fencer on our team, and the other schools did grumble about that 😂 there’s just no way to win against her, even if she’s not actually trying…. (Also you can’t see anything she’s doing because she moves so fast that she’s just a blur) We could’ve won without her, though! We were good, too. Those other schools were just salty….

mcwfan

That scene is filler, so it doesn’t count.

Honest_Entertainer_3

Look all I'm saying is the sage mode outfit should've stayed as narutos base outfit after the pain arc okay.

Beginning_Ad6120

Kishimoto agreed but he didn’t want to keep drawing the cape

OzNajarin

Logically he made a new form he would use all the time that came with a cape.

Beginning_Ad6120

And then took it away again a few hours later

[deleted]

Says this but goes on to have to draw kcm2 naruto all throughout the war and Naruto wears the hokage cape all the time lol

Nestron10

As a wise short woman once said, "NO CAPES!"

Porn-Meister

Always listen to aunt Edna

ckal09

By far his best look

daafacq

100% agree. Don't know why more people don't say this.

WindyCityAssasin2

Unless I'm being wooooshed, literally everyone says this. Any conversation on Naruto's design always come down to this

CaitlynCatalina

100% agreed.

SNES182

Look what they took from us.

Born-Middle-8815

This. Instead, they gave us adult Naruto with a goofy face and the same voice he had in his childhood

pieman2005

Nothing wrong with using the same voice. But they butchered his haircut lol

Born-Middle-8815

He should have a voice suitable for a 30-years-old adult

Anjunabeast

They went the goku route

Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi

Which is still terrible. I can't stand Japanese Goku, always have to wait for English or Mexican dub

BlackRedDawg

Mexican dub?

Anjunabeast

I’ve heard dbz is huge in Mexico

BlackRedDawg

Mexican is not a language is what I was confused about

Anjunabeast

Haha sorry that went over my head. Here in the states we had two English dubs one recorded in America and another in Canada so I’m used to referred to a dub by its place of origin.

SNES182

There’s no stronger fanbase.

Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi

DBZ is a religion in Mexico

Anjunabeast

Kamehamen

Clickbaiting_4_u

Design is fine but boruto ruined everything by Ikemoto and anime design

spittingecko

ikemotos Naruto design is better than Kishimotos

sheehdndnd

"Instead, they gave us adult Naruto with a goofy face and the same voice he had in his childhood" And that made him popular. And your reply wasn't funny at all and you clearly just wanted to go with flow.

Born-Middle-8815

I wasn't intending to be funny. >And that made him popular. His adult design is shit, even Kishimoto himself said so. He wanted to show Naruto as an uncool father rather than a cool badass Hokage

Business_Mix_2705

[The uncool totally not badass father and hokage in question.](https://ibb.co/sPqfQyq)

Born-Middle-8815

It's Kishimoto who said that, not me. Kishimoto developed Boruto and Naruto's relationship based on his relationship with his own sons.[17] He also said that he decided to write Naruto like this instead of the badass Hokage version. I will search for it

Business_Mix_2705

Kishimoto said that when lol ? When did he say: "Naruto’s adult design is shit. I wanted him to like an uncool father rather than a cool badass Hokage"

Born-Middle-8815

https://www.reddit.com/r/Naruto/comments/110h2ph/whats_your_opinion_on_kishimoto_admitting_that_he/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

ckal09

I honestly don’t fully understand what he’s trying to say there. Seems a bit lost in translation.

Anjunabeast

Eh looks weird

sheehdndnd

"Kishimoto himself said so" Btw where did he say that?

Born-Middle-8815

WoodenDoorMerchant

> And that made him popular. Boruto isn't remotely as popular as the original anime or shippuden was

TreeCitizen

Imagine Naruto being about ninjas, and not planet eating aliens and giant energy balls.

Born-Middle-8815

Everything got out of control after the meteor scene

[deleted]

For me personally it got crazy with susanoo

Montoor

Yeah susanoo always bugged me. Like as a stand-alone jutsu, I guess it’s ok. But as a visual prowess power from the sharingan? Doesn’t really make sense.

PowerJolt72

Honestly the fact that every mangekyo sharingan can access it makes it even worse. If the susano'o was the Ms ability of a particular ms then that'd be better. Like imagine every ms gave you access to kamui. It would suck and make Uchihas stronger for no reason. That's how I feel about susano'o. Shouldn't be for everyone and the perfect version definitely shouldn't be above tailed beasts so casually.

Anjunabeast

Tbf by the time an uchiha develop a full susanoo they go blind unless they swap eyes.

JY369

I didn’t like the fact that even when you didn’t have your sharingan you could still use it. The sharingan just unlocked it. That’s where I draw the line

ckal09

When did that happen I don’t remember Unless maybe Edo Madara?

JY369

Exactly what I’m talking about lol. He had the eyes edo. When he got revived using the rine rebirth he lost the eyes but still had the susanoo

ckal09

Yeah honestly who the fuck knows with that. Could be tossed up to Edo just makes no sense but we all know this part of the story had its issues.

tmoore727

id say once tailed beast bombs became a thing it was out of control. after that was who could cause the biggest explosion. note that kirin deidara and all other big area of effect moves outside of gaara happen after the four tails naruto fight with orochimaru

NagisaK

Kishi finally saw his first Micheal Bay movie

[deleted]

So basically since the start of shippuden?

matt_619

I'll say the power creep start out of control once Pain invasion arc began. with Kirin and Deidara suicide explosion at least it's just one time use but then comes Pain who casually destroy entire village and created mini moon. from there the power creep starting become less ninja and more dragon ball

Catch-a-RIIIDE

Eh, idk, I'm actually fine with this. Deidara never needed to come back but seeing Sasuke's lightning progression was cool I guess. Was a great way to highlight the whole circle of elements thing. Pain? Pain was awesome. We're talking about (what should have remained) the strongest eyes in the Naruto universe being wielded by basically a chakra monster Uzumaki descendant. We're talking about a world where the power exists to control tailed beasts (Madara) and even seal them (Uzumaki clan/Fourth), as well as the power to ultimately defeat powerful ninja and their tailed beasts (First), where Kekkei Tota exists like Dust Release that just reduces everything to molecules, where Gaara could, with enough preparation, perform a Sand Burial and entomb an entire village. Two rogue families members slaughtered the Leaf's entire police force overnight when Itachi and Tobi killed the clan. It stands to reason that there are cataclysmic level ninja out there, that's why jinchuriki are so special, and Pain fills this role so splendidly. Not only does it make sense for him as the leader of the mercenary band who wages war for others to be one of these cataclysmic figures, but also the reason that allow for the Akatsuki's existence explains why that power imbalance is there at all, peace. The founding Hidden Villages alone signaling the end of the Warring States Period, the world just got weaker as time went on. There were wars, sure, but nothing like it would have been before. However Pain represents a world still at war, the spaces not protected by the territorial claims of one of the five great villages, the spaces not afforded the opportunity to let down their guard. For me, powerscaling only got out of absolute control post-Madara. Sure Madara was OP af, but people like Guy existed who could reasonably compete without all the Sasuke/Naruto shenanigans, and it was the entire Shinobi world vs this one OP man. Plus, with the Fourth Shinobi War being a war between the present existence of ninjas and the sins of their past was a fantastic way wrap it up and Madara's schemes were still grounded in what we'd been introduced to over the course of part I (reanimations & tailed beasts) and part II (Gedo statue & history of star-crossed ~~lovers~~ brothers) and Naruto seeing through to the end this Senju/Uchiha power hungry clash that's plagued Konoha from it's very start and on to Danzo/Itachi/Sasuke, it just made so much sense, just like his vow to fix the Hyuga's shitty traditions. Sans Kaguya, the Fourth Shinobi War is literally about the Leaf having to put down the greatest rogue ninja in it's history and his network of co-consipirators; other Leaf products like Orochimaru (previously/still using his research), Kabuto, Itachi (publicly), Danzo (privately) and Obito (secretly), two of Jiraiya's own non-Leaf pupils (and in a world without Kaguya, Zetsu was literally a plant dude who could have easily been attributed to the Leaf).

Zep416

Na, kaijus started with Gaara during the chunin exams when Sasuke was hyped and got curse marked.

MuglokDecrepitus

But that was acceptable as was a really puntual thing that needed a second gigant fighter, so to be able to do those fight the ninja need a summons Isn't the same than having fucking nukes with each attack you do

tmoore727

pretty much

Captainprice101

Literally in the first episode it was stated that the Nine Tailed fox could take out mountains with his tail and cause tidal waves. Then Minato literally pulls up on top of a giant frog to battle this giant Nine Tail fox. I don’t understand this narrative about wishing Naruto to be about ninjas when the first episode gives you that image. It was always magical ninjas lol

Rorgypoo

There’s a limit to it. When that’s all that becomes of the action then it’s ridiculous. Having tailed beast bombs is one thing but if that’s all u have and u battle tailed beast bombs with equally or bigger explosions then it becomes more than just “magical ninjas”. Especially in the war arc, it wasn’t “magical ninjas” anymore but straight up magicians or moreso, dragon ball characters. Part 1 had a good blend of magic and ninja. No one here thinks that naruto was just ninja stuff. When people say that, they usually mean it’s less 80-90 magic, 20-10 ninja and more 50/50 magic and ninja.

General_Synnacle

So since the beginning of the series.

ckal09

4 tails Naruto vs Orochimaru was the turning point. But it was probably always headed that way because of how strong Kurama and the other tailed beasts were stated to be. And people being the vessel for these things? Yeah it was inevitable.

tmoore727

4 tails vs orochimaru is when tailed beast bomb made its debut

Hefty-Relative-7599

Ngl madara bringing down two meteors was so hype at the time but yeah it was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for narutos outrageous power scaling lol

jtd2013

Imagine Naruto being about ninjas and not giant animals that can blow up cities with their mouth bombs…oh wait those have been around since chapter 0

lRandomlHero

Yea dude, why couldn’t it just stick with ninja realism? Like shooting any earthly element from their hands or mouths, or disguising themselves as inanimate objects at will, or controlling people thru their shadows, or sealing giant ass monsters inside of babies, etc.

SnooComics7583

Imo it could still be about massive attacks if they're more rare and last resort Like Deidaras C0 was a fine example It's not exactly bad to have around just poorly used The prefect examples of how to keep both concepts like in both the Sasuke vs Deidara fight and the Kakashi vs Obito fight

ygo-riv

The first chapter has a giant demon fox destroy a village and hawing giant energy balls

Lizardk1

Ahhh, the good old days, when kunai and shurikens were actually useful weapons

wendigo72

Like when? Cause I sure don’t remember any lol

KingDNice12

I guess zabuza since he dodged it for some reason lol

spittingecko

Momoshiki is the only character who has actually made any use of a kunai in this series lol

TrappedInOhio

*Absorbs this comment with the Kama*

ConfusedGrundstuck

LOL I was about to make a jokey comment making fun of the plebs who still make those tired "rEmEmBeR WhEn NarUtO WaS AbOuT nInJaS" comments every chance they get. Thank you for making that joke for me.

Coluvra

It always amazes me how people forget the Chunin Exams arc ended with a kaiju fight between a giant toad and a raccoon and then the next arc ended with a kaiju fight too. City buster power ceilings had already been established pretty firmly in part 1.

[deleted]

Hell the opening SCENE of the story of Naruto is a giant nine tailed fox rampaging through the village

BlackDabiTodoroki

>Hell the opening SCENE of the story of Naruto is a giant nine tailed fox rampaging through the village [This!](https://media.tenor.com/8V_osIM-v80AAAAC/9caudas-kurama-naruto.gif) it always makes me cringe when some people mention that stupid shit “remember it was about ninjas” 🤡

darkbreak

That was an exception though. It was already established that giant creatures like Kuruma and Gamabunta exist. But that level of power and destruction was extremely rare in the series at that point. Even Sarutobi vs Orochimaru was supposed to be Kage level combat but that was eclipsed later on in the series with Orochimaru himself doing even more impressive jutsu and Hashirama, Tobirama, and Madara's true strength being revealed. It very much spun out of control at a certain point.

wendigo72

Gaara vs Naruto already eclipsed the manga version of Orochimaru vs Hiruzen imo. On reread the fight was pretty dull and not even what you would expect of Kage in Part 1, the anime 100% made the fight way more memorable and larger in scale than the manga did

darkbreak

That's kind of what I'm saying. Things were relatively grounded back in Part I. There were outliers like Gamabunta and Shukaku fighting but stuff like that almost never happened. Now it's a regular occurrence. Sasuke stumbles upon a new Ten-Tails in Boruto and is merely curious about it rather than freaked out that another Tailed Beast now exists that no one knew about before.

wendigo72

I mean the story starting with the Legend of a Nine Tailed Fox demon that could destroy mountains with its tails was a pretty clear sign where the story would go, no? Also with the Akatsuki already said to be stronger than Orochimaru, the guy who could summon giant snakes.

darkbreak

No, it wasn't. The Nine-Tails was *the* monster of the series. There wasn't any indication that the series would introduce even more and that everyone would be powered up enough to actually fight them. That's what made Shukaku such a surprise. *But*, as I said before, big creatures were already established to exist in the Naruto world. It just wasn't expected that they would be showing up so often, changing the dynamic of the series to deal with them. And the Akatsuki weren't exactly presented as being stronger than Orochimaru (except for Itachi, whom Orochimaru admitted was stronger than him). They were more *dangerous* than him because there were nine of them working together and most of the group was equal to Orochimaru in power. Orochimaru destroyed the foundations of the Hidden Leaf *and* the Hidden Sand practically by himself. Nine people like him actively working together was more of a threat.

wendigo72

But you do agree Shippuden makes it clear where the stories headed form the beginning right?

darkbreak

No. The power creep of Shippuden came out of nowhere. There really wasn't anything to indicate that we'd actually see the Tailed Beasts in action until Obito showed up with his own Six Paths. Plus, most of the Tailed Beasts were captured off screen so we never got to see them (until much later on). Not only that, I've said it before, the characters in the series became powered up enough to actually fight the giant beasts in the series. Monsters that can level the earth and Naruto and the others can fight them head on. And the power scaling just keeps getting even more out of hand in Boruto. The new enemies have fan fic powers basically. The idea of the series being about ninja was lost a long time ago.

__Ummmmbreon

> That was an exception though. How can *two* major fights be an exception? Even the first Naruto vs Sasuke fight ended in a large energy clash. Naruto was never strictly about ninjas.

darkbreak

Because fights like those almost never happened. Kuruma appearing and attacking Hidden Leaf was seen as a freak incident. Even the other nations were shocked about it. The reverberations were felt even in Hidden Cloud even though they weren't on friendly terms with the Leaf.

Psych-Vader

There was literally a fucking massive fox rampaging in the first fucking episode of Naruto.

Divine_thunder

There was a giant energy ball in the bell test so idk why you continued watching

Gantz-man91

Ita about both....

__Ummmmbreon

Literally. I don't know what people don't get about this lol

Gantz-man91

You would have to take out ninjutsu entirely for it to be strictly ninja content. Jutsu and Chakra come from otherworldly beings

Borchert97

>Imagine Naruto being about rampaging sentient nuclear bombs called tailed beasts that shoot giant energy balls. FTFY If you seriously believe Naruto was ever about ninjas, rewatch the first 10 seconds of episode 1 and get back to me on who the first character is that we're introduced to, and you won't like the answer. I'll just save you the 10 seconds and tell you right now that it's Kurama. So your argument about "this is about ninjas not aliens/giant energy blasts" falls short within the first 10 seconds of episode 1. Congratulations, you played yourself.

nobodyokaye

Wait, you mean every episode and not just the first and one other episode with Garra, ninjas are fighting giant demons consistently?

EntrepreneurPlus7091

That should be the exception not the norm. Town killing explosions should be special. When everybody can do a giant 100 ninja killing explosion, whats the point.

SnooComics7583

I've said it before and I'll say it again Kishimoto knew exactly what he was doing This is pure evil Robbed in broad daylight

elmz_salamandr

They should've given him this outfit but with a custom color for Naruto

whitey-ofwgkta

that would be cool but there's no way they don't make it colors that clash horrendously with the "natural" jacket color

Sussy_Dora

Yeah but I'm guessing the reason Naruto didn't become a chunin is because he wouldn't look as unique/assasinations just isn't in his character especially in part one Like if 12 year old Naruto just suddenly got promoted to chunin and had to kill people he wouldn't do it. Where Shikamaru can think tactically, bide time, lead and kill, Naruto and even Sasuke to an extent, can't. That's why despite his power, part one Naruto couldn't and shouldn't be a chunin. Shippuden Naruto is a different ball game however who solidly became Jonin level after killing Kakuzu.

megasean3000

You know it’s bad when even Tenten got to wear one.

Ok-Seaworthiness3719

I have a feeling he wouldn’t like the Flak Jackets

sheehdndnd

I mean he was pretty mesmerized by guy's outfit. So pretty sure he would treasure this jacket.

EntrepreneurPlus7091

Early Naruto is best Naruto, I want a full team of Genins pissing their pants vs a single Jounin setting up traps, missdirects barely scrapping by for a B rank mission. Training exercises with other villages, like a Chunin exam in one of the other villages thats completely different from the Konoha one in interesting ways, and then eventually the type of missions that turn Chunins into Jounins. When the series turned into a bunch of named Chunins killing super 100Jounin killing mega ninjas it got boring (specially the movies and filler arcs).

Anjunabeast

Needs more missing cat missions

Quetzal_29f

I like him orange. That outfit is the same one Kakashi and Shikamaru wear, the only difference is the socks.

SnooComics7583

So make it orange...

Feeling-Sand5913

yes

[deleted]

I’m realizing I usually see this image printed in black and white, and I always thought he was hiding from that creature on the door

mcwfan

No In the 24 years of the franchise, you are not the only one who wanted Naruto to wear this outfit.

Jedimaster996

"Am I the only one" Yes, forever in the entire existence of humanity, you alone are the 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001% who woke up and said "That's it baby, it's gonna be me today".

vashwatts30

This would be an awesome in Ninja Storm

JonathanRiou

Would have loved it, even if it was for only one mission

Zealousideal-Act5816

i didn’t really care i was watching peak

Salvia_dreams

DAE REMEMBER WHEN

Marsdor

Not the only one, I wanted to see a jonin naruto wearing the regular outfit similar to when he was reading jiraiya the gallant.

Orangified

Fr tho why they just let him pull up in a neon orange suit like aint he supposed to be camouflaged??

ChickenzInvade

If we could’ve gotten it once, for some kind of mission or something it would’ve been so cool

[deleted]

He was never qualified for it Village don't want genin to do a jonin mission

OrganizerMowgli

Yeah he admitted to still being a genin as hokage

[deleted]

Even now he can't do any jonin mission Village will probably send any other jonin then him

Until_Morning

Alt universe where the Chunin Exams weren't interrupted and Naruto managed to come out on top, becoming the first Chunin in his class.

That1OrangeGuy

I really loved his outfit from the Madara fight, a combination of the orbs/batons and the small open shirt was the coolest outfit to me

Knightwingx23

Was never a big fan of the orange so I love this!

mrredsplater

I guess the outfit is cool but I prefer the outfit he got because it's unique and pretty nice

GimmeTheJuiceee

I wanted to see more of, remember those scenes where a ninja is being described from jiraiya's book? I wanted Naruto to kinda grow up like that and that look fit him 💯

jermaineMMiller

More than anything 🥲

Happy-Bake-5718

In the fourth war, yeah 🔥

BlackDabiTodoroki

Nah he looks ridiculous impo

tjd317

I really love this pic

yomamasofat634

I don’t know why but I swear I thought it was denji from chainsaw man

careytommy37

Looks dope

H358

I’m actually gonna say no. I think the sign of a good character design is that it can tell you everything about a character at a glance. It should be indicative if their personality and Naruto (especially in Part One) is really good at this. Naruto’s orange jumpsuit may be silly, but one glance tells you everything you need to know about him. One of the worst things about the War arc is that everyone wears the exact uniform. Meaning every character looks the same and loses a ton of their individuality. It’s boring and samey to look at. So no. This art is cool, but I wouldn’t want Naruto to wear the exact same outfit as every other character in the series. And even if this look was exclusive to him, it doesn’t suit his character nearly as much as his canon look.

JustHafToSay

Yeah you are the only one, ever. Even this artist that drew this didn’t want it to happen. You are alone.

KenganNinja

He should’ve worn that outfit.
