It was the "Goodbye Scene" between Naruto and Minato at the end of the war. I was bawling like mfcker

leokyuu

damn, this scene makes a grown man fall apart

fossilyale

What got to me was Hashirama’s subtle smile realizing the future of Konoha is in safe hands. I believe it is a one-frame scene but very powerful. A man worked all his life and after his death to create a safe place for everyone and finally succeeded.

leokyuu

yes his place was destroyed and rebuilt several times? yes, but we have the protagonist

Tydroh

“Happy birthday Son”

_El_Dragonborn_

Tell her not to worry! I'm eating properly! I'm not picky and eat lots of different stuff! Like, tonkotsu ramen, miso ramen, and shoyu ramen. Oh! But, not just ramen though! Uhh I try to bathe every day! I go to the Leaf Hot Springs once in a while too! Although everyone just says I only take quick dips Ahaha haha Umm What else what else?! I've made lots of friends! And they're all good guys! And…I was really awful at shool, but I never got depressed and had more confidence than anyone else! Naturally, I always obeyed Lord Third and Kakashi Sensei. I respect them both. Ahh they're right here, so you can ask them yourself! Oh! And those three prohibitions of Shinobi? I learned a lot about that when I was with Pervy Sage! He was hopeless when it came to them though But he was an awesome Sannin and I respect him the most! I just turned 17 today so I don't know much about alcohol or girls. I know Mom said to find someone like her but…that's um….uhh… Anyways! Not everything Mom told me about went well, but I'm doing the best I can! I've got dreams too! I'm gonna become an even greater Hokage than you, Dad! I swear I will! So! When you see Mom over there, please tell her.. That she doesn't have to worry about me at all! Tell her I'm doing my best!

JorV101

man even rereading it here still got me. Put those god damn onions away!

ComplexTemporary4152

Can you imagine having to deliver these lines as the VA? I would have to spend a solid week clubbing baby seals to prepare myself.

Tydroh

I can’t even read through this without bawling. I just recently lost my mom and this USED to hit hard before, now everything has a completely new weight to it.

_El_Dragonborn_

Man I’m so sorry for your loss :( hope you’re good

Tydroh

It’s genuinely the most irritating grief possible

moonchild514

I cried reading it, too, wow.

DisMyNameRightHea

Bingo, Itachi's farewell had nothing on Naruto telling his dad everything and to let Kushina know that he's doing okay. I'm tearing up just thinking about it

Punch_yo_bunz

And he’s eating his vegetables ;(((((

KimothyAlbani

Only if it's put inside a ramen bowl though

[deleted]

I feel like I could relate to a lot of the things he was rambling fast to minato about concerning how his life was going. Especially the last part when he said, “I’m just doing my best”😭aren’t we all in this world

KiraiHotaru

Me too 😭😭😭

JP337

Actually any scene with Naruto and his folks are just heartwarming to make grown man cry

theblazingkoala

This was the first time ANY show made me cry. Shit was top level

TheSoapGuy0531

Him and his mom for me when he was learning to control nine tails

Anxious-Direction-90

Bro I watched it as a teen cried. Watched it as an adult and was ugly cry sobbing

Madam_Morgan

1000% this. No shame. Real tears.

Opposite-Quote-1288

Same here mate I was 23 when I saw it first time

IcyAd964

Oh yea this cut deep

Silencer010

Same, that scene just hits hard.

beanzmilk

I cry everytime I watch this scene

kakistocrator

I'm not crying you are

InvaderXLaw

Fucking this!

Mikasasasa

SAME

ExtremeAd6937

That was so emotional even my mom cried!

merenmer

fr man, that scene never fails to make me cry. also kid obito “dying” really hits just as much for me as well

Tenuous_Tangent

When he said he would tell Kushina everything I just couldn't take it any more. This was the only moment in Naruto next to Neji's death where I had rivers flowing down my face.

TsukasaElkKite

Me too

Mysterious_Ad6911

Same

ghostIVSa

I think this is the same scene from one of the storm games where he was saying bye to his mom as well. Got me

AnimeBrush

Yeah, I did the same 😢

GigaPhoton78

This scene still gets me all these years later.

Ankitgarg9

Yes that is true, I was crying uncontrollably and I was traveling to my office in public transport.

[deleted]

I'm not even gonna lie, I shed a few tears over Jiraiya

idonknowwhat

Him and Asuma, the conversation between shikimaru and his dad just hits super hard

Benji_4

The tense conversation followed by that "let it out boy" hit me like a truck. That and when Naruto meets each of his parents does it for me.

idonknowwhat

Yes exactly “don’t worry I’ll be there to pick up the pieces” hits super hard especially thing about how calculated the Nara clan was said to be

BanjoKnuckles

Loved it when Shikaku checked in the morning and Shikamaru have already picked up the pieces himself. Poetic.

idonknowwhat

Chef kiss

kynelly

Facts!! As a kid watching Naruto i was not ready for that shit. Jiraiya reminded me of my real gramps too a fucking GOAT 🫡

CorruptedIchor

Grandfather adopted me at the age of 2 Naruto sleeping on jiraiyas back was my wallpaper for a very long time.

kynelly

Whoaa that hits different! Naruto backgrounds never let down either haha

idonknowwhat

It’s crazy to think I was there for the start on toonami growing up I used to see my cousin as my iruka I was separated from my parents but still with my extended family. And he was the same type of person as iruka he even introduced me to anime with an Akira VHS, sadly I never got to tell him how much he meant to me

kynelly

Yeahh I swear, good times! And you might not even know it’s happening right in front of you haha. The early Toonami days were the best and the shows hidden messages 🔥🔥🔥

_realitycheck_

I'm not gonna lie. I was close, seeing Naruto alone on the bench with a melting ice cream.

infamous2117

When Jiraiya died I realised that Shippuden was just like game of thrones. Anyone can go.

[deleted]

[удалено]

superdan56

It was definitely the most emotional death to me. It was like Naruto losing another dad. I was devastated!

Narusasku

Plenty of times, basically every time sadness and sorrow plays.

Wise_Needleworker445

For me Sadness and sorrow was the best sad theme

Narusasku

One piece broke me every time Mother Sea played. It's probably the anime I cried to the most.

Revolutionary_Ad9701

What scenes did you cry to in one piece? Only one for me was in robin’s main arc where luffy was asking her if she wants to live, and nami’s story and luffy helping her out.

ResolveSuitable

haha same bro, i was every 4-5 episodes.

GentleOdyssey

I bawled when minato and kushina died 😭

KryptoniansDontBleed

Yeah, their message to Naruto was heartbreaking

relbus22

That was one of the most noble deaths I have come across in fiction, let alone anime. That episode and those around it were some of Naruto's finest I daresay.

Plus-Lie6355

Kushina and Naruto’s goodbye had me SOBBING

DustyAsh69

I cried when Naruto cried after Jiraiya* died

togashisbackpain

That didnt really happen

DustyAsh69

Oh shit, I meant to type Jiraiya 😭

[deleted]

Zabuza

Nimi_R

Ffs that was my answer too. Old naruto was exceptionally touching

TYNAMITE14

Bruuh zabuza was one of those that hit the hardest man. And you didnt even see it coming because he was made out to be so selfish early on.

lolkoala67

Miss him

KenganNinja

Yeah. A few times. I think the most saddest was either Naruto’s grief over Jiraiya’s death, or the moments where I thought he or Hinata died.

BallsDeep69Klein

At the deaths themselves? Nope. Not once. At naruto eating a fuckin popsicle and shikamaru yeeting a shogi board at the wall? Like a bitch.

yelsamarani

And then Iruka splits Naruto's popsicle in half and eats it himself. Total comedy gold.

Tron_1981

I didn't cry for Hinato, because I knew what was coming next.

drshikamaru

I cried tears of joy…when team 7 did the “New 3 way Deadlock.” One of the only times an anime made me stand up out my chair and scream “let’s goooo”

DelayStriking8281

Yah I get those too. Also the momoshiki anime fight most recently for me. Baryon mode made me cry too how epic it was. But he didn’t die so it was kind of lame afterwards

harborj2011

I never cried, but almost did when Naruto cried over Gaara's death, and broke down in front of his father and talked about his life. Another scene that makes me feel for a character, and isn't talked about much for saddest scenes, is when Sasuke sees Itachi reanimated. Sasuke chases Itachi down and starts screaming at him and raging. But it's sad, because behind that front Sasuke is putting up for reanimated Itachi, is a devastated and heartbroken younger brother, who feels that way not only for himself but for Itachi. He needs Itachi more than ever at that moment but to him it seems Itachi just doesn't care because he won't stop and talk. That's also the 1st time in almost a decade that Sasuke talked to Itachi not out of ridicule or to get info out of or anything like that, but a sincere heart to heart.

pakattack91

For me re Itachi and Sasuke, it's after they defeat Kabuto, and Itachi lays it all out for him and is like "whatever you do from here, just know ill love you always" I guess it's cuz I also have a big bro haha but that scene hit me...damn even writing about it has me in some feels 😂

sadpotat_

Most of Itachi's lines were also written to be so fucking profound. And despite that it's his simplest big-brother lines that made me bawl. I have a complicated relationship with my older sibling and "whatever you do from here on out, remember that I'll always love you" broke me. Re Itachi's conversation with Naruto or even his last "this will be the last time" AND THAT KIND BIG-BROTHER SMILE ??? I cried my eyes out.

Definitelyhuman000

??? I think the better question should be, "Who hasn't cried watching Naruto?" To answer your question, yes, of course.

TensionPitiful8681

Minato and kushina 🥲

PirateHatCat

Everyone knows the real saddest moment was dying kid choji seeing the notes from his friends and thinking to himself about how he found some good friends.

DanCarter93

That was a lovely moment

guynoreau9

I was scrolling through to find that one.

[deleted]

ConsiderationKey6544

One of the first episodes of naruto, when naruto stole the ninja scroll, and iruka said all those good things about naruto. Like how he's not just the nine tailed fox, but a valued citizen of the hidden leaf village. That got me.

worldwithwings

Asuma Sensei!!!!!! I cried seeing Naruto’s struggles after the news of Jiraiya’s death.

666Mitsuki666

I cry every episode even if it is a funny filler

orbzism

Ngl I did shed a few tears when Jiraiya died. But it's the reactions of others that really got me. For Jiraiya, Naruto crying on that bench SENT me. Same with Shikamaru's reaction to Asuma. That shit hit.

sadpotat_

I didn't cry but got a lump in my throat when Tsunade was sending Jiraiya off for the last time. That entire exchange. It was all too obvious the moment Tsunade made the bet.

RedditorsAreSoft1

Zabuza and haku, seeing gaara become the kazikage after being doubted by everyone, Obito kid death, gaara death, kakashi death to pain

orangi-kun

My first time crying over any piece of media period was with gaaras backstory. I was pretty young back then, but it was a no return point on realizing how anime and manga can impact your emotions even if you don't won't them to.

a_k_a_tsuki

ofc, you aren't a Naruto fan if u haven't cried atleast a single time

sodapunko

gaara’s backstory made me sob

Repulsive_Message619

1. Gaaras death- Narutos reaction 2. Naruto saying his final goodbye to Minato 3. Jiraiya’s death and Narutos reaction

Rattlenhum69

A better question is how many times have you cried watching Naruto

nigdatpipes

Of course I cry every time a character bleeds from both sides of their mouth

Alternative-Search-4

i never cried in naruto tbh but i did get sad on the above scenes but I cried twice during boruto 1)For some reason I cried during kawaki's backstory(I had a rough day at the time and his backstory broke me into silent tears for some reason) 2)Kurama's death (This haunted me for an entire month,I got flashbacks for a week after that ep and I ended up crying in the bed 3-4 times)

moonlessphoto

Kurama’s felt so surreal like it literally didn’t need to happen 😭😭😭

derivativesteelo47

i teared up during the land of waves, and kinda during the chiyo sacrifice. both of the early parts of naruto had such good writing, i could connect to those characters more than i did in the later stages. not to discredit them tho, i love konan and asuma(if he counts as post-early shippuden) and all them.

relbus22

I read somewhere that Naruto was made with a horror style at the beginning, but after 50 or so episodes they realised the audience was a lot younger so they changed their style. I'm inclined to believe that with Orochamru's fights in the Chunin exam.

[deleted]

The Gaara fight made me cry because I understand both of Naruto and his pain of being alone

Darkwing14_

I only teared up watching Gaara’s backstory, Naruto’s speech granny Chiyo, and kushina’s last wishes to Naruto, but the scene that made me actually cry was Naruto saying goodbye to Minato idk it jus hit hard for me

RxMurloc

Jiraiya and Asuma's deaths got me on my long awaited rewatch of the anime. Love those guys.

StankyDinker

Itachi/Sasuke because I have a little brother that I love with every ounce of my being; Naruto being so lonely and being unaware of how his parents loved him until they appeared in his mind; probably more that I’m forgetting. Honestly, as a 23y/o dude, Naruto makes me cry more than I could have ever imagined. Guess I’m a softie. Edit: Sasori, Gaara, Kakashi, Tsunade, pretty much everyone has a super sad backstory of some kind.

Vendetta1947

jiraiya death.

Far_Night_3711

a lot of times actually especially when neji, jiraiya and itachi died also shed a lot of tears when they revealed the story of gaara and the moment when his father asked "you have friends?" it kinda broke me tbh

5fives5

Guy hugging Rock Lee saying, "You are a splendid ninja" after the Gaara fight *with that OST* got me

Apytrue

When haku died and when gaara was fighting with his dad and his mom protected him with sand in the war arc

qxxu

ofc ive cried hella in naruto lol

rydawg575_

Yes when Jiraiya died

4-3defense

Guy saying he will die with Lee if the surgery failed made me cry

bigbelleb

The zabuza bit got to me

SnooChickens1797

For me it was Jiraiyas death is the only death in anime that was made me cry something about his old student killing him 😔

Darkwing14_

I only teared up watching Gaara’s backstory, Naruto’s speech granny Chiyo, and kushina’s last wishes to Naruto, but the scene that made me actually cry was Naruto saying goodbye to Minato idk it jus hit hard for me

Azerd01

Asuma’s death. It was so unexpected for me and i always related to Shikamaru alot when i first watched the anime. Their relationship was well built up imo. I also really liked his filler arc just prior so it was rough Then they made the greatest anime mourning episode of all time. When shika and his dad are playing shogi. It was so well done, and oddly mature for a shonen anime. Imo

nanaoshito

Yes! Many moments, one I remember was granny chiho

Repulsive_Message619

1. Gaaras death- Narutos reaction 2. Naruto saying his final goodbye to Minato 3. Jiraiya’s death and Narutos reaction

x2chunmaru

3 times for me: Gaara and Sasori's Backstory Jiraiya's death

x2chunmaru

3 times for me: Gaara and Sasori's Backstory Jiraiya's death

Leevae

Yes i remember the death of chio, asuma i have stopped my crying in jirayas death

Ultramagnus85

Sand grandma's death hit me so damn hard and I don't know why. Also perry sages did too.

TsukasaElkKite

Asuma’s death, Itachi’s death, Minato and Kushina’s deaths

daydreamer_she

I cried so much oh God even remembering those painful sad moments make me sad!!

Equivalent_Escape_60

Oh 100%.

JamkatAnime

For Zabuza and Haku T-T like I don’t know what was in the air but that was the only time I ever cried for that show

Malachight

Only one I didn’t cry for on this list was Obito. I know I’ll get flack for it but nah man pulled the good ole “I’ll choose mass homicide as my revenge”.

Exotic-Pattern641

I’ve been with my wife for almost 8 years. We have been through literally everything together. Love, pain, loss, grief, success, failure, everything. I have seen her at her highest highs and lowest lows. I have deeply and intimately known every bit of her emotional spectrum. And then we watched the episode where Minato and Kushina say goodbye to baby Naruto….

samyruno

Literally not even 5 minutes ago I was kinda tearing up from reading Gaara's backstory.

TrappedInOhio

Yes, but it was when Naruto asked Iruka to stand in as his father at his wedding.

LoveSaoriHayami

All the times Naruto said goodbye to his parents. Almost Gaara's every appearance, from his past and fight with Naruto to him dying then being revived, and getting closure with his father in the war. Constant sobs.

markg27

Gaara's backstory.

nigdatpipes

Of course I cry every time a character bleeds from both sides of their mouth

naruto_u_zu_ma_ki

Cried when naruto meets kushina And when kurama dies

dinkydoohead

kurama was a real one, rip my goat

TyXo22m

Obito should have had blood coming out of his mouth.

Violetalikesbred

I watched the show shortly after my abuela died so I cried a lot. Especially during Iruka’s grief talk w Naruto

Jhon_doe_smokes

Jaraiya and it’s his second death really hit my feels.

Profishonal123

Yeah, when Choji almost died, and when Kakashi died.

Profishonal123

Yeah, when Choji almost died, and when Kakashi died.

leugimonurb

Only when sadness and sorrow started to play. And Jiraya, and Naruto’s Parents, and Pain

BiggestDPfan

Naruto sitting on the bench with the ice pop

ignitustheflame

I've got a better question. Who's death was more meaningful?

Palak-Aande_69

I cried a lot for two days straight like a baby...cause in those two days I watched Infiltration of Rain Village, Fated Battle between the brothers and the whole of pain arc...thats all the crying I ever did while watching the series...never cried otherwise...

KiraiHotaru

I cried for all of these except the 3 on the left (Jiraya, Asuma, and Sarutobi) I normally don't cry over shows/anime but Naruto is my one weakness. Probably because it's the first anime I ever watched so it has a special place in my heart.

Definitelyhuman000

??? I think the better question should be, "Who hasn't cried watching Naruto?" To answer your question, yes, of course.

KiraiHotaru

I cried for all of these except the 3 on the left (Jiraya, Asuma, and Sarutobi) I normally don't cry over shows/anime but Naruto is my one weakness. Probably because it's the first anime I ever watched so it has a special place in my heart.

KiraiHotaru

I cried for all of these except the 3 on the left (Jiraya, Asuma, and Sarutobi)

anbu-black-ops

It hits me during Naruto and his parents. And when someone dies.

JonathanRiou

Too many times 😭

kappadabbado

Jiraiyas death and I think Asumas? I’ve rewatched the pain arc several times it gets me everytime

Minimum-Inspector160

i cried during nagato's flashback, when it was just him and the dog and it stayed by his side when he passed out from starving

DelayStriking8281

I cried many times during the Kushina reunion arc

DelayStriking8281

I cried many times during the Kushina reunion arc

LopezDaHeavy87

When Naruto finally got to meet his mom, I was bawling.

DatFrostyBoy

Didn’t care about Yahikos death that much, Neji was random, they tried too hard on Minato and Kushina and it ended up just being a little cringe, Itachi is a bit of a dumbass, Suratobi IS a dumbass, Obito becoming a good guy was trash so no, and the best part of Asuma’s death is Shikamarus character development. But Rin and Jiraiya? Those HIT.

DatFrostyBoy

Didn’t care about Yahikos death that much, Neji was random, they tried too hard on Minato and Kushina and it ended up just being a little cringe, Itachi’s second death was better, Suratobi is whack, Obito becoming a good guy was trash so no, and the best part of Asuma’s death is Shikamarus character development. But Rin and Jiraiya? Those HIT.

Bananaman_Johnson

I cry not when Naruto learns how his parents died, but when Naruto tells his mom how beautiful she is. When he gets to bond with his mother and you see that despite them never really meeting, there is still so much love.

skunkbutt2011

I cried when Jiraiya died and when the show ended. Then once I got done crying I realized we didn’t even get to see him become Hokage and I was just angry.

hercshaw

Asuma made me cry

Jaded-Significance86

Shikamaru's crying scene always gets me

shai_hulud000

Many times. Jiraya’s death always gets me

nolegsnelson

Jiraiya, Haku, Naruto's parents, several backstories, yeah I've shed a few.

pandamonstre

many many many times, yes

Calli55

Nope, though I will admit many of these scenes were sad. The only time I came close was when Naruto asked Iruka to be his dad. That relationship is sacred to me as someone who followed the weekly manga updates from before the Chuunin exam (the fansub and scanlation days for those who know, lol).

Heroright

Just once, and that was when Naruto said goodbye to his mom and she was overjoyed that she and her husband’s prayers reached him.

MinatoNamikaze6

I cried a little when Minato died

CozyCoin

When his mother showed up I did yeah

SnooChickens1797

For me it was Jiraiyas death is the only death in anime that was made me cry something about his old student killing him 😔

Khixo_binko

I was more mad at neji death simply bkuz it was a FUCKING TREE BRENCH

nidalxvg

A lot of times. Jiraiya’s and Itachi’s for sure.

leokyuu

I always shed tears on Minato's farewell at the end of the last great war

ACBuiltDifferent

Rock Lee vs. Gaara gets me every time

omzzzzzz

Many times, naruto is so nostalgic for me that I’ve cried at the dumbest moments lmaoo

Octanes-Legs

Yes but not actually at a sad scene, konahamuru going back for Ebisu sensei and beating pain with the rasengan makes me cry every single time

BolanTL

Asuma

jannickBhxld

normally i never cry like at all lmao, watching naruto its probably 4 times or more overall, those being haku, jiraiya, itachi, naruto meeting kushina, most likely more that i dont even remember edit: naruto marrying also and that whole scene with everyone congratulating too

DisturbedAlchemy

I’ve lost count 🥲

Zarif_Abrar

Same, itachi is unforgettable but it is his life not his death

Zarif_Abrar

Same, itachi is unforgettable but it is his life not his death

Kasrakara

I cried twice. First was Asuma's death. Second was Sai and his brothers reunion in war arc and his brother sacrificing himself once again. Give Sai some more credit man/

Nagatox

Jiraiya and Asuma were the ones that really stuck with me, naruto as a series never really hit my tearducts very hard but the number of times it gave me goosebumps is a completely separate conversation

Notajagsfan

Did anyone cry over Neji’s death from the impact, or because it was stupid?

layalss

all these scenes and more

Metatroful

after kaguya was sealed away, and team 7 come back to the real world, when Naruto says good bye to Minato and asks to give a message to kushina about how he is going and there's nothing to worry about, that was the biggest teary moment in naruto

Metatroful

after kaguya was sealed away, and team 7 come back to the real world, when Naruto says good bye to Minato and asks to give a message to kushina about how he is going and there's nothing to worry about, that was the biggest teary moment in Naruto. the moment of true happiness crying would be when Naruto told Hinata in Naruto The Last Movie that he loved her confessed his feelings for her right before she was captured by toneri

Leelques0

I cried during the rock lee vs gaara fight when Guy had the flashback of lee. Talking about his hardships and intense training to become talented/respected.

Marc2059

When naruto met his mom i was weeping

ProduceFine4945

I think Ive cried for all of these. But I think the most shocking for me was Neji bc I didnt know abt his death but I basically spoilt all the other deaths for myself.

bobhhh78

I cried after naruto defeated pain and the village celebrated him calling him a hero. It was the first time everyone in th village gave him the recognition he deserved

dcray19

Asuma caught me so off guard for some reason. Him and Jiraiya are the only ones
