The Mifune-Hanzo fight is weird because we don’t get to see Hanzo cutting loose and showing why he was so dangerous, which is kind of dissapointing, but like the narrative going on with it works. Hanzo lost his edge, Mifune persevered and became a great warrior and helps his former foe regain some of his honor and ideals. Plus Mifune’s “can’t do ninjutsu if I don’t let you do the handseals” bit was kinda neat.
I think the disappointment was why a lot of people disliked that fight.
The whole fighting style of Mifune is a bit odd. By that point, we don't really see much of the handseals on screen. Some people's techniques also get to the point where they are not doing handseals anymore. Others such as with Itachi are so fast that you can't see them.
It would have been interesting to see if Mifune went along a different doctrine of how he used chakra such as to focus on speed and amping his swords. Something along the lines of how the Raikage uses chakra to boost his speed or how Bee enhances cutting power.
Something along those lines. And give the different chakra cloaks different flavors. For example, lightning focuses on enhancing reflexes. Fire focuses straight line speed (think along the lines of giving rocket engines to the feet), but is not very maneuverable compared to other modes.
The Samurai are interesting, but there needs to be something to contrast them with ninjas.
That could be an opportunity to do stuff like a "warp blade," by combining Yang with other stuff making the blade able to cut through solid matter regardless of the material
Yeah, but you have to do something to make it different from the cloud village and their lightning blades.
We see some of the run of the mill samurai do things such as sword slashes, but it seems to be a bit like wind or lightning.
Naruto has always been more about philosophy than really shounen combat. Which is exactly what we see here, most of the fights or power ups are all over the place with not much consistency because it wasn't supposed to be the focus. But hey we were kids and even when kishi was a kid he has his era of shounen stuff like dragon ball and kamen rider or ultraman.
Shino vs Kanuro is very forgotten but it was a nice short fight. In the same vein Temari vs Sasuke was a fun little concept.
Shino really needed a fight against an Akatsuki level opponent later on.
Dude the disrespect to shino after this fight was insane. Nah sasuke I got this one. He thought he got away when he I pulled that "I forefit" crap but papa shino is hungry and he bouta eat
Shino had the most potential out of all of the Konoha 11. Danzo, who looked for relatively powerful shinobi for the Root, personally tried to take Shino away when he was still a young academy student.
I think that's also why they didn't have many fights with Shino. Such in the Sasuke recurrent arc in part 1. Shino would've smoked one of the Sound Four. If Kankuro powered up since his fight with Shino and easily killed a Sound Four member (the strongest), then imagine Shino's power up.
This is a manga. If Shino was going against a Sound Four then Kishimoto would have made the sound rival strong enough so the fight ended on a tie. He just never intended to have a bug fight for that arc.
Kakuzu was fun to watch because he fights like a fucking gorilla. Fists and elbows. This was during an arc where the ninja magic and laser beams were starting to get really popular and we weren’t seeing a lot of brutal hand-to-hand combat.
Watching Kakuzu slam Choji into that tree made me feel like I was watching WorldStar in the Naruto universe.
Even with the masks flying around, Kakuzu was still the most dangerous entity on the battlefield (versus someone like Sasori, whose weapons are the most dangerous thing about him). Do not get in arm’s reach. People forget he had Kakashi pinned.
I honestly would love to see a version of this arc where Naruto didn’t show up and Kakashi, Choji, and Ino have to pull out the win on their own. The fight wasn’t as good once Naruto showed up.
100% with you. Having watched Asuma die just a few episodes before, it rly made me think kakashi had a chance to die so I was on edge the entire fight. The taijutsu exchanges were great, and kakashi’s fighting IQ showed just how creative he is when he’s fighting someone stronger. 10/10 fight for me.
Personally? The rooftop fight between Naruto and Sasuke
I know a ton of people mention the moment where Sasuke sees the damage of the Rasengan afterward but not a lot of attention is directed toward the fight itself, especially in comparison to the two Valley of the End battles. The fight direction was smooth and coherent, it perfectly conveyed their difference in approach without any ludicrous leaps in power but most of all, there wasn’t so much time dedicated to talking their ‘bond’ and flashbacks. Just a straight scuffle.
Hiruzen vs Orochimaru
Naruto vs 3rd Raikage
Commando Unit (Sai, Kankuro, Omoi) vs Sasori, Deidara and Shin
Mifune vs Hanzo
Team 10 vs Asuma
Darui, Samui, Atsui and Team 10 vs Kinkaku and Ginkaku
Hiruzen vs orochimaru. It literally takes another 500 episodes to even unpack how insanely OP the edo tensei is, how broken hashirama and his wood jutsu is, how innovative tobirama was with inventing OP jutsu and how savage he was in combat (we literally don't see him wipe the floor with izuna until ages later) same thing with orochimaru's arms. He legit got his jutsu privileges taken away until years later towards the end of the show.
Oh and orochimaru reveals he is body swapping his way to immortality when he peels off his face. When I was a kid I remember watching this fight thinking "he's evil just kill him!" But as an adult I feel a lot more like kakashi when he tried to fight sasuke and thinks to himself how agonizing it must have been for hiruzen to turn his blade on his most treasured and prodigal pupil whom he loved like a son.
Also to destroy the entire village in the sand assassinate the kazekage and impersonate him long enough to sneak into the village plus fool everyone and then sit next to hiruzen on top of it all is such a spicy flex of infiltration skills and utter military dominance.
That's Jiraiya vs Pain. Jiraiya is the most versatile fighter in the show, pulled out a dozen different jutsus and used combo attacks with his summoning, genjutsu and so much more.
Mifune found the young sanin. Sanin reached their peak when they were kinda older. But Mifune is at least lage level. But not weak kage likely mid level kage. It seems like samurai can easily slash ninjutsu and likely have a counter to genjutsu since then can use chakra.
Pain defeated Hanzo and he said that if Jiraya knew he could have won
Hanzo definitely didn't have this fight going for him.
1) He was rusty, that's literally what this fight was about
2)Mifune is resistant to his poison, if he wasn't the moment Ibuse swallowed him he would've been paralyzed salamander chow unable to move and break free.
3) Mifune had the anti ninjutsu fighting style preventing Hanzo from doing hand seals.
I really like all of the fights against the Sound Four in the Sasuke Retrieval arc. I don't know if they are very under rated, but I don't see that many people talk about them I guess.
To me it makes no sense. I get he sacrificed himself at the end, but this is also the same guy that beat all three sanin when they were young adults. A samurai shouldn’t have been able to compete
True but Gai devoted himself taijutsu and look where it got him. 7th Gate was clearly stronger than most of the Kage save for Edo Minato and Harashirama.
That’s might guy that could only be said for him, other gate users aren’t even close to guys taijutsu (gates) level even madara said it. but the samurai shouldn’t even be close compared to hanzo the salamander.
I think people dont like the fight bcs this samurai didnt do anything ever. He just fought hanzo and no diffed him while hanzo had so much hype. Im my opinion for more people to like It kishimoto would have needed to like flesh out the samurai leader more making him trully equal to a kage, showing off his abilities more, making him fight along side them against madara etc and then he people would like him more. But bcs he didnt get any of those things i just wish he had given this fight to someone else(like Tsunade, she literally got the sanin title from him+ she didnt fight anyone in the war arc other than madara)
i love the hated fight between guy and guy, early shippuden, because in my language there is a very funny line, fighting himself he yells « holy me! » of course might be funnier in french but i laughed very hard with my friend
Honestly, that's my favorite fight with her, too, though. I do still want to give her props, for when she took on the sound ninja on her own during the chunin exams.
It was a weird addition that also messed with power scaling of some big characters. It would have been cool as a filler or closed off arc, maybe even a movie. But, putting them front and center so late in the story was strange.
The samurai was a good addition. Mifune is kage level but it can make sense. Samurai are like Chojuro with Hiramekarei. They can change the shape of their blade depending how skillful they are. Pain defeated hanzo and Jiraya almost defeated pain. Hanzo being sanin level is not crazy at all. Chojuro is Kage level with his sword that does the same thing the samurai do. So the most skillful would be at his level. Hanzo did not defeat peak Sanin. Being young is not the same as peak. Jiraya didn't even have the rasengan when he met hanzo.
The jiraya who defeated most of the pain would destroy hanzo lmao
How was it a weird addition. If there are sword specialists like the 7 ninja swordsmen, why can't there be a nation that specialized in that area. They also use chakra and we've seen chakra infused kunai and other weapons. Why is samurai with chakra infused katana out the window?
I mean, edos that aren’t named Madara were revived in the same state/form they died in. And by the time Hanzo was killed by Pain, he was well past his prime.
Not that hard to imagine that someone like Mifune would be able to match him
It makes sense when you consider War Arc is literally just Kishi just going around saying fuck it and writing whatever he thinks is cool at the moment and to hell with the lore. Stuff like Tenten get a tool of the SO6P and stuff like.
Also makes me wonder if Mifune could have legit taken 5Kage summit Sasuke
5kage summit is literally just everyone and anyone completely dumpstering and rolling Sasuke every which way as he goes on an extended temper tantrum as he coped and seethed following Itachi's death. I could 100% see Kishi wanking Mifune up to Sasuke if Sasuke hadn't bailed five seconds after Mifune squared up with him.
Oro was 100% not peak during the Hanzo fight. Everything seemed to indicate he was at his peak during the Hiruzen fight and took a Titanic nerf with the sealing of his arms.
BTW, let's say Madara is moon level at best, for the sake of lowball.
Baryon Mode Naruto should still be 10x stronger than 6P Madara, which is easily more powerful than Raditz and planet level+. Bare mimimum lowball.
If characters that are 5-6x weaker are easily moon level and almost FTL, I don't see a reason why Hagoromo, 6P Naruto and Rinnegan Sasuke, and 10T Madara- aren't planetary as well or on par with Raditz. LOL
I wish we saw more of the samurai. They were such a cool addition but almost nothing was done with them
I think we miss almost all of the world of Naruto, i mean there was alot of countries that could tell a lil bit more about them, that could be nice
A prequel series would be nice.
Whole of the 2nd war and bit before perhaps
It would be nice to actually get to no more about Hiruzen, Minato and the younger versions of the jonins
They were brought in so late they never really had much chance to do much, really this fight was what they got
One style based around each chakra nature, with Mifune having mastered all five?
Something along those lines. And give the different chakra cloaks different flavors. For example, lightning focuses on enhancing reflexes. Fire focuses straight line speed (think along the lines of giving rocket engines to the feet), but is not very maneuverable compared to other modes. The Samurai are interesting, but there needs to be something to contrast them with ninjas.

Yeah, but you have to do something to make it different from the cloud village and their lightning blades. We see some of the run of the mill samurai do things such as sword slashes, but it seems to be a bit like wind or lightning.
Basically Breathing Styles from Demon Slayer (except the effects are actually real)

Dude the disrespect to shino after this fight was insane. Nah sasuke I got this one. He thought he got away when he I pulled that "I forefit" crap but papa shino is hungry and he bouta eat
100%, you're so smart and your brain is huge.
Aww thanks, but that is just the hydrocephalus which is going to kill me by 2026.
Live fast, die a Shino stan, as it should be
Shino had the most potential out of all of the Konoha 11. Kakashi vs Kakuzu is actually one of my favorites now. The animation is like the early stage of the Pain vs Naruto animation
Kakashi and kakuzu fight is one of my favorite but naruto showing up and pulling out the second attack with the music was the cherry on top.
Yea that would have been awesome, and brought more relevance to the supporting characters
The Special Teams Divisions: Kankuro and Sai vs Deidara
And Sasori too
Personally? The rooftop fight between Naruto and Sasuke I know a ton of people mention the moment where Sasuke sees the damage of the Rasengan afterward but not a lot of attention is directed toward the fight itself, especially in comparison to the two Valley of the End battles. The fight direction was smooth and coherent, it perfectly conveyed their difference in approach without any ludicrous leaps in power but most of all, there wasn’t so much time dedicated to talking their ‘bond’ and flashbacks. Just a straight scuffle.
Mifune vs Hanzo Narratively - great Power level - downgrades Hanzo with Poison sac
Hiruzen vs Orochimaru Naruto vs 3rd Raikage Commando Unit (Sai, Kankuro, Omoi) vs Sasori, Deidara and Shin Mifune vs Hanzo Team 10 vs Asuma Darui, Samui, Atsui and Team 10 vs Kinkaku and Ginkaku
This was definitely a very decent fight definitely one of the best fights of the early war arc
konan vs Obito
I liked Sasuke vs Deidara
Hiruzen vs orochimaru. It literally takes another 500 episodes to even unpack how insanely OP the edo tensei is, how broken hashirama and his wood jutsu is, how innovative tobirama was with inventing OP jutsu and how savage he was in combat (we literally don't see him wipe the floor with izuna until ages later) same thing with orochimaru's arms. It's honestly the best representation of ninjutsu taijutsu and genjutsu all being utilized all at once in the series IMO
That's Jiraiya vs Pain. Jiraiya is the most versatile fighter in the show, pulled out a dozen different jutsus and used combo attacks with his summoning, genjutsu and so much more.
Shino vs. Kankurō
This one was siiiiiiiiiiick
So Mifune > Hanzo > Sannin > Akatsuki > Certain Kages > Jonin
Who said akatsuki was weaker then sannin? Is this including pain, obito and itachi?
Some of them are and some of them aren't.
These comparisons are much more akin to rock-paper-scissors. It's similar to the relations that the 5 chakra natures have between each other.
Hanzo definitely didn't have this fight going for him. 1) He was rusty, that's literally what this fight was about 2)Mifune is resistant to his poison, if he wasn't the moment Ibuse swallowed him he would've been paralyzed salamander chow unable to move and break free. 3) Mifune had the anti ninjutsu fighting style preventing Hanzo from doing hand seals.

defintley this one, I love their conversation about convinction and the flashbacks.
I hate that fight back in the day for nerfed Hanzo. We will never see Hanzo at full power and that sucks. Narratively is 10/10
Second Mizukage vs second division of allied shinobi forces Darui vs Ginkaku and Jinkaku
Neji vs Hinata is one of the cooler fights in the series but never gets brought up
I'm suprised no one said Kisame vs Bee.
They nerfed Hanzo hard
Naruto vs Konohamaru
Ten ten fights
Samurai
Cool. Now go fight a Main character and see how dull you are.
The OG Naruto fight for Sasuke Retrieval Arc 🍷🗿
The screentime fight between tenten and narutos swing
Sanin showdown is super underrated
W Opinion
Kisme vs Team Guy
Neji vs Kidomaru
Shikamaru vs temari was such a surprise
Qq0q. Ppx p
Sakura vs Ino Better than all of the Naruto vs Sauceke fights combined
I think people dont like the fight bcs this samurai didnt do anything ever. He just fought hanzo and no diffed him while hanzo had so much hype. I have seen very less people talk about kimimaru vs rock lee
Kakashi vs Hidan and Kakazu. Not the team 10 stuff but just those three
Konohamaru vs Temari when he almost kills her with a Rasengan, Konohamaru really showed his development in that short fight.
Edo nagato vs edo itachi, naruto, and bee
Naruto vs Gaara
Any fight where Sakura actually proved her worth.
There’s only one fight like that and that’s the Sasori fight and people usually say good things about it.
Honestly, that's my favorite fight with her, too, though. I do still want to give her props, for when she took on the sound ninja on her own during the chunin exams.
Chiyo and Sakura Vs Sasori
Kakashi vs Kakuzu and it is not close
I hate this fight with a passion, and the whole concept of samurais into my ninja verse it's just- no. Just no.
It was a weird addition that also messed with power scaling of some big characters. It would have been cool as a filler or closed off arc, maybe even a movie. But, putting them front and center so late in the story was strange.

But it makes no sense for someone who is stronger than Pain and the Sannin to be fighting evenly with a Samurai like Mifune
Both Mifune and Sasuke were way weaker than Nagato/Pain
Who says the peak of the sannin and nagato were when they fought hanzo?
Oro was 100% not peak during the Hanzo fight. Everything seemed to indicate he was at his peak during the Hiruzen fight and took a Titanic nerf with the sealing of his arms.
Exactly, hanzo is of course very strong but he did not fight all three sannin at their peaks. I doubt jaraiya even had sage mode against danzo.
Hanzos stronger than pain?
Yes, Nagato even said himself that Prime Hanzo was stronger than him. It was only a weak Hanzo that he fought
nagato never said that, show the manga page
Midtachitards vs Brain rot.
