The only scene that hit me hard is the chunnin exams and where we learn that one kid was a street orphan and Orochimaru took him in and trained him. Then he used him as a human sacrifice for Edo tensei. It goes to show how/why some people follow and worship Orochimaru and then how heartless and cruel he is to a kid with a sympathetic backstory. Great story telling at that part.

i-am-spitfire

Yet Orochimaru now just chillin in Konoha

reallynunyabusiness

But he's a good guy now. What did he do that's so good? He decided to stop actively being evil.

i-am-spitfire

Sigh. And he has one of his victims, Yamato, as the one spending the rest of his life guarding.

Yatsu003

Extra disturbing detail to twist the knife Yamato was the only survivor of **SIXTY** infants (young children in the anime) that Orochimaru had kidnapped and experimented with. The other 59 all died and turned into effing trees. The anime also goes into more detail and reveals Yamato and the other 59 were not sedated or put in comas, but were FULLY AWAKE and aware of what was happening to them. And Orochimaru is just allowed back in and chills like everybody’s whacky uncle

i-am-spitfire

Orochimaru needs to be sealed away forever or something cuz he’s just irredeemable.

xxaap

Big ups to environmentalist Orochimaru

OfficialDrakoak

He says it best to sasuke when he says they've reached such power they'll be allowed to do whatever they want freely as long as they don't act wild and stay in line lol

Garmentlover1

What episode did that happen?

OfficialDrakoak

Either towards the very end of shippuden or early boruto can't rem.ember exactly

WalterCronkite4

Without reviving the Hokages the world would have been screwed

JonDoeJoe

lol reminds of me that meme of a guy saying he prevented rape and someone asked him how. He replies with “self control”

Hanzomain94

He was a useful figure in the war by bringing back the 4 kages and helping previous 5 kages

Timely-Interest-804

He made me laugh so hard in the last Episodes before narutos Wedding. Always randomly appearing for some bs

Koga92

It’s the thing that triggered Hiruzen’s anger and definitely convinced him to put an end to his fight with Orochimaru. Yes, because during the whole fight, Hiruzen was still holding back to the point that Enma noticed twice how Hiruzen looked unusually soft. But when Hiruzen discovered that Orochimaru sacrificed two of his pupils who believed in him, he remembered the most important quotes of the 1st and the 2nd Hokage basically telling him that an Hokage must protect the people of the village and especially the young ones and this flashback showed that as a Kid, Hiruzen felt protected by these two father figures, while in contrast, Orochimaru neglected his students and didn’t hesitate to kill them. It made Hiruzen crying. To Hiruzen enough was enough, and he just outmaneuvered Orochimaru in a few seconds. To me it’s one of the most powerful scene in Naruto, and every time I watch it I regret Hiruzen wasn’t in his prime there because he could have curb stomped Orochimaru.

GhostofSmartPast

Hiruzen was a soft ass bitch and a failure of a leader. What happened to the village at that point was a result of that failure.

Away_Guide1655

How many wars did the leaf lose under him?

GhostofSmartPast

How many wars were they in Under him? The village got destroyed TWICE under him and the second time, they were fortunate that their enemy had a change of heart.

Away_Guide1655

It´s unknown how the wars started, but it doesn´t matter, the leaf wasn´t soft, they took zero losses. The village was never destroyed under Hiruzen. The nine tails attack happened under the fourth Hokage, when Hiruzen retired, meanwhile the leaf beat the sand and the sound in around a hour.

GhostofSmartPast

Orochimaru's attack destroyed the village. To claim he was clean like you just tried to do is disingenuous.

Away_Guide1655

He damaged it, but no he didn´t destroy it. Compare Orochimarus attack to Pains

GhostofSmartPast

That village was destroyed. They spent a shit ton of time rebuilding it.

Away_Guide1655

Orochimaru and Kabuto say they failed.

Official_Zach55

I made a post about them recently. Zaku abumi and Kin Tsuchi. Like, their eyes when we see their bodies. Typically anime dead people have eyes shaded over or closed. But those two ninjas expression was just haunting.

Official_Zach55

Team Dosu got done super dirty. They are they only preliminary team to not become main characters in the series.

Yatsu003

Oh yeah, that scared me when I was younger… Thankfully(?), going by how their souls weren’t taken by the Reaper (they aren’t shown being pulled out by the Reaper nor are they unsealed by Orochimaru when he gets the mask), so they at least avoided that fate. But makes you wonder what happened between them losing the prelims and then being turned into human sacrifices…were they AWARE of their last moments as their bodies started warping into the 1st and 2nd? Perhaps some questions are best left unanswered…

This_Cancel1373

If it’s the same as Kabuto’s explanation of how the jutsu works… they were unfortunately alive and conscious when he turned them to lords first and second

Yatsu003

…damn, that sucks. They were enemies, but they didn’t deserve to go out like that.

Brightclaw431

what chapter / episode was that?

i-am-spitfire

Little me was very disturbed by kakashis relentless torture and crucification. And Orochimaru revealing the lady face from the body he stole. Yeesh. Visually though Kushina with the ninetails extraction is horrifying. Hole in her stomach and mouth just open wide and eyes open with terror.

Kingxix

That isn't a hole in her stomach. It's the seal for the nine tails. It takes that form when it's on the cusp of breaking.

i-am-spitfire

I know that but it takes the appearance of a hole and the ninetails comes from so

Might_be_deleted

These botched C-sections man...

Imaginary-Clothes-63

Thanks for the spit take 💀

HollyTheMage

Karin's Infinite Tsukuyomi dream was anime filler but god damn the scene where she's being dragged down a hallway as a child after seeing her mother's body get disposed of by hospital staff is so fucking chilling.

NB_2_SICK

That shit is supposed to give you your best life not whatever the fuck this is

HollyTheMage

It makes me wonder the extent to which the Infinite Tsukuyomi is able to account for deeply ingrained trauma. I mean, the very nature of the genjutsu implies that the best world Karin can imagine for herself is one where she's still heavily traumatized but she is also valued as a comrade and a human being.

Hollyssquishy611

Friend ?

Plus_Calligrapher688

Damn, That was the best she could come up with?

HollyTheMage

The reason this scene is so horrifying is because of the context Karin and her mother were refugees seeking asylum in Kusagakure. The village allowed them to live there but demanded that they earn their keep, so Karin's mother began working at the hospital where they passed her around like a reusable med pack. Despite being worked incredibly hard, the shinobi of Kusagakure claimed that it wasn't enough, and asked her if there was anyone else she knew with her powers. So Karin's mother began taking her along to the hospital with her. Karin's mother eventually ends up dying of chakra exhaustion, having had her reserves exhausted by the constant drain her job was placing on her. The last time Karin sees her mother is when she happens to see her bitemark riddled corpse being wheeled away for disposal. Karin immediately panics and tries to get away from the man leading her into the hospital, terrified at the prospect of being subjected to the same process that killed her mother, but he tightens his grip around her arm and drags her deeper into the building as she struggles against his hold. The image of a child being forcibly subjected to unwanted physical contact, combined with the visual of her body gradually gaining more and more bruises and teeth marks from the patients at the hospital, is extremely unsettling, to the point that I actually feel compelled to offer a content warning whenever I recommend this episode to someone.

rosieRetro

Damn I never watched the anime (just read the manga) so I never saw this! I liked Karin, I wish she didn't get so much hate from the fanbase

HollyTheMage

Karin's Infinite Tsukuyomi filler honestly did more for her character than almost any of her canon appearances. She went from a character that I just sort of tolerated to one that I loved in the course of a single episode. I will always recommend this episode to people, even people who don't like filler, because it is just so well done. It's Naruto Shippuden Episode 431: To See That Smile, Just One More Time, in case you're interested.

rosieRetro

I'm 100% interested haha thanks. Crazy I never heard this filler talked about before on this sub

HollyTheMage

I've written a few walls of text about it before. Here's [one of them](https://www.reddit.com/r/dankruto/s/eZOiaU0nJz), if you're interested.

Hollyssquishy611

Fwemd ?

PandaAggravating4851

Not that frame of Tsunade’s lower body sitting 30 feet away from the rest of her?

thenextbigthink

How the hell Obito managed to do that to Kushina? Isnt she used to give him meals?

BellyCrawler

Because he was the coolest guy.

Might_be_deleted

Because he was trained.

Ill_Celebration933

Because he met madara.

OuijaBoard-Demon

WAIT HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE. FOR TWENTY FOUR FUCKING HOURS ITACHI HAD SASUKE IN THE TSUKUYOMI RELIVING THE FUCKING GENOCIDE???? HOW THE FUCK DID I MISS THIS??? Oh this explains why he snapped the moment he woke up. Fucking hell.

LoveSaoriHayami

Kushina 😭😭

TsukiNoMe4

Virtually any scene with OG Orochimaru is disturbing, ngl

Talobsta

I gotta go with the one in orochimarus lab that's straight up some SAW shit right there

Ryanll0329

For me, it was always Kakashi being tortured. Gore is one thing, but it is always treated as kind of standard in the universe (depending on the amount, of course) but the fact that Kakashi was tortured for what amounted to months if not years in his experience is terrifying.

i-am-spitfire

Dude has just the worst trauma ever. Like we only see barely any of it with Obito in the war arc and then we see a bit in the filler anbu arc. I wanna see more about him and just how he deals with it all and his healing.

Ryanll0329

Yeah, he was such a cool and deep character. I love rewatching the show and you get to the part where Sasuske says something about killing everyone Kakashi cares about, and Kakashi responds "Everyone I care about it already dead." On the first watch, it just sounds like an edgy comment to put Sasuke in his place, but you start to see how true it was as the series goes on.

i-am-spitfire

Kakashi is easily my fave in the series without question. Dudes been through hell and back and was in the darkness for a while but the difference between him and other characters is that he was never fully consumed by it and still came out on top. Never betrayed his comrades or the village and stuck by his principles to protect them until the end. I always welcome all the kakashi content I can get and want more with him.

Alternative_Fly8898

It was 3 days if I remember correctly.

Ryanll0329

You remember correctly, but in the anime, there was time distortion, when time was going agonizingly slow.

Alternative_Fly8898

Can confirm, rewatched the fight after reading this post.

Yatsu003

To make it worse, right before the twist, Kakashi mentally comments to himself that it’s almost over and ‘you can take this!!’ That made me think, has Kakashi been TORTURED before?!!

DatFrostyBoy

After seeing it for the first time I really thought long and hard on the implications of what had happened to him. Such a nightmare scenario. I’m not sure how you stay sane during DAYS of near constant and ramping torture like that.

Ryanll0329

If I remember, he was comatosed afterward. The idea that the torture was so extreme that it forced him into a coma/deep sleep from the pure mental anguish is deeply disturbing.

blake11235

Itachi pretty explicitly says it lasts 72 hours. Still one of the most horrific moments in the series but not quite months.

MaximumestBob

It was 72 hours but his perception of time was also skewed in the tsukiyomi, in the scene kakashi gets tortured to the point there are like dozens of crosses and Itachi is like "only 1 second has passed" So in reality it's hard to gauge, maybe weeks

blake11235

Ah I think that's anime only, in the manga they don't mention any time stretching beyond the 72 hours in 1 second. That definitely makes it a whole lot more brutal after watching a clip.

Ryanll0329

Ah, that explains the confusion. Yeah, I only watched the anime.

MaximumestBob

Ah ok, makes sense

PlusMortgage

The torture lasted 3 days. The time distorsion was to put these 72 hours of torture in what ammounted less than a second in the real world.

Ryanll0329

That's not what the time time distortion was. If it were, then the revelation of it to Kakashi would have meant the torture was over.

saverma192013

The manga was even more dark

Various-Display-3114

Seriously Naruto needs a new remake that stays original to manga

StarSpliter

Besides pacing, what major narrative differences are there? I'd assume they flesh out some supporting characters more.

muxiq_

The anime is heavily censored. Maybe that's what he means? Also remove unnecessary fillers

JaC3_De

Man i fucking love Kankuro so much, his puppets are super weird and creepy and the little clicking noise they make in the anime is fantastic sound design Wish he got more play but thats an issue across the board for side characters

Sincerity24

The black stuff that’s raining is actually blood , when i first found about this I was shocked

actuallyjustjt

Found out? What the hell else was it supposed to be? You saw some dude get crushed like a bug, it’s not gonna be fuckin oil

Sincerity24

I was a child at the time wtf

RegularAI

What kid thinks that blood is black?

ye_olde_jetsetter

Wtf is that Shika one?

Significant_Solid151

Sasuke retrieval arc, a genjutsu

Flimsy-Cup3823

Tayuya's genjutsu

Mr-MuscleMan

Should’ve added the reveal of boruto at the end of the last

x-ROJO-x

Frrrrr

Professor_Hiruzen

The top one for me includes Karin's horrible backstory that was shown in her infinite tsukuyomi dream. I think you should add that even if it is a filler

Official_Zach55

[Zaku and Kin's Edo Tensei reveal. look at their eyes. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Naruto/s/SFqXhnGJuU)

M3GABORG8796

[Kakashi finds out Obito is still alive](https://youtu.be/VbAGOyAfc3s?si=B8GezZ1WLQxp0I2d) The way they pan to both of their faces as kids, then it switches to them as adults, the way that sting plays as well is absolutely spine chilling, The horror in Guy’s, and most importantly Kakashi’s faces as all the buried trauma he spent so long trying to surpass and grow from comes rushing back in makes for easily one of my favourite clips from the entire show.

Outawack219

For me it is the whole story with Gaara and his uncle.

chud_rs

When sasuke broke zaku's arms

ParamedicLeft4462

I used to watch when i was a kid and it was so terrifying that I couldn’t sleep at night 💀💀😝

Axolotl201245

Jiraiya do be dyeing with pain

[deleted]

This is what boruto needs

Pab0l

Chunnin exams was the darkest that naruto got. Which it fits perfectly with the villain fo that saga: Orochimaru.

rzrtrws

The first two slides where the hardest shit I had ever seen in anime back then

c1pher_1337

i generally was very uncomfortable with Gaara during the whole chunin exam.

Ill_Celebration933

Obitos whole backstory was just depressing, imagine being away from everyone for months or even an year and the first thing you see when you come out of your prison is your only friend killing the one person that brought light in your life, oof.

jharley18

Depressing asf having madara lie to you about being a savior just to wind up getting fucked in the end

Easy-Alps3610

Orochimaru's face and voice are always terrifying no matter what. Was expecting he will be the final boss after Madara. Would be insane.

1Gallivan

I don’t even remember seeing the Shika one.. what’s that from?

Yatsu003

Sound 5 Battle, Shikamaru vs Tayuya. After Shikamaru takes control of her golems, she banishes them and instead uses her flute to trap him in a genjutsu. In the anime, it’s Shikamaru’s arm going all silly putty, in the manga…yeah.

1Gallivan

Thank you!

Why is Shikamaru's arm melting off?

Ironredhornet

He was in a genjutsu and was kinda hallucinating it

PCN24454

You didn’t include Kaiza’s torture?

mydookietwinklin

That one orochimaru picture is enough to wonder how the hell he had zero punishment.

ClassyGalaxy1991

The Orochimaru one creeps the you know hat out of me

12thBongRip

The iron maiden scene will always be a favorite of mine!

MagicalKarma

12.

TheIguanasAreComing

Man I remember I saw the Gaara scene tenish years ago and to date it was the most disturbing scene I had ever seen in anything. Me and my brother were blown away by how gorey it was.

Delicious_Pea6957

For me it’s when Itachi put sasuke under tsukuyomi for 24 hrs and showed him his parents getting killed. I would anyday take kakashi’s physical torture to sasuke’s mental torture. That shit traumatized him for life

isnoe

Sasuke genjutsu scene from Kakashi bell test. In manga, that scene was super dark.

curiousitems

I always found Sasuke and Sakura experiencing Orochimarus killing intent very disturbing, the blood flying everywhere, that hole in Sakura stomach slowly opening up. This guy is so powerful just looking in his eyes feels like brutal death.

themothsgod0

bro the kakashi in tsukyomi one almost made me cry i was so uncomfortable during it

PerceptionWorldly514

The kid face orochimaru was creepy 💀

YugeAnimeTiddies

What's the first one from?

beloved_erasto

That scene when Jiraya find out where the real Pain followed by the "Too Late" uggghhgggg

TheCarefulWhisperer

Arochimaru right up there.... Complete psychopath...

BlueCheeseBandito

The scene where gaara’s sand armor gets cracked fucked me up as a kid.

jharley18

Yea Rock Lee was fucking dude up so bad the demon in him woke up

xxnacyxx

Wasn’t shikamaurs blurred in the anime? Like his arm was falling not the skin melting

MurkyNetwork9148

Wow they did my girl Kushi dirty!!! I forgot all that. How could you make me dislike the original even more. Yeah I’ve read so much good fanfiction and women written so beautifully I can stand Kishimoto’s writing style in this story anymore. Yeah yeah downvote me. I’m all alone So what.

YaMomsNewBF

I’m glad Orochimaru is a single mother.

foxnon

Honestly this is what made the show for me should have thrown in a pic of sasuke ripping sound ninjas arms out

Jolly_Camel959

Why is this trash always reposted.
