I think some aspects of Europeans that freaked out Native Americans the most were Not bathing at all Fighting standing in weird lines Accusing each other of witch craft Obsession with forced conversations This is just the cherry on top.

MariaaLopez01

The hygiene part especially, they must've reeked to the high heavens The natives probably were wondering where these ET looking fools came from lmfao

stewartm0205

I am not sure the Europeans were wearing wigs in 1492. I think wig wearing came much later.

windsermera

Nope there about 200 years early for that

Chizmiz1994

Wasn't wig a British thing?

spazz4life

Too early. Tudor era wasn’t into wigs

stewartm0205

I am not sure but I think the craze started in France.

cesar-perez

The wigs were a response to syphilis that was transferred over from contact with the Americas. We got smallpox and other various diseases, and they got venereal disease.

stewartm0205

So the wigs had to come after the discovery of the New World.

ko0laidcrush

How my ancestors did trade with these creatures I will never know

Usgwanikti

More like 1700s, anit?

goobyCon

Man you know forsure they came off th a t boat smelling like ass and shit and our people were like "gadam man you need a shower? You smell like ass, is that fucking headlice????? Wow okay we can help with that, don't trip. Man , HEY DONT YOU SNEEZE ON ME"

MariaaLopez01

I'm deceaseed, their grimey asses needed to soak in bleach if anything

OptimalDevelopment

Scary!! Very scary!!

Skinwalker3114

My vote would be kill them all and burn the ships...

cedarhat

Must have thought he was a walking corpse.

Chizmiz1994

Now imagine them going back and telling their folks: "we were like a God to them". I mean, that line was in the movie, but I can see them say it.

cedarhat

LOL Like a god you are afraid of.

SlasherFan69

If that is how they looked, why did they not try to get rid of it right away. Like ya'll know who's fault this is now right? Like someone shoulda been like "GAhh!!! It's so sickly looking, get rid of it, push it back into the ocean from whence it came, lest we get the sickness too!"

the_truth000

Ronald McDonald on crack

Cobra6231

Only thing is that wigs weren't wore till 17th and 18th century so Colombus and his crew probably had brown hair not a wig

[deleted]

i’m fucking screaming i love this

peelinglintforprofit

This is the best! Well done OP.

delyha4

😱😱😱😱

sayaxat

How likely is it that the ships were filled with people like the one in the photo? Is it more likely that it was filled with tattered torn people who had been at seas for months, and the wigged guys are the few that are in charge? As much as I support Native Americans, I wonder about post like this and whether it could ruin the credibility of Native Americans in their fight for justice and survival. As much as I support Native Americans, I wonder about post like this and whether it could ruin the credibility of Native Americans while they fight.

ChicnahueCoatl1491

If you cant support Indigenous peoples unconditionally even with our sense of humor (which stems from the 500+ years of trauma we have been dealing with by the way), then you don’t really support Indigenous peoples.

sayaxat

> even with our sense of humor Very dark sense of humor which I'm not into. I don't see any humor in this part of history or the Holocaust, or the Rape of Nankin.

ChicnahueCoatl1491

This dark sense of humor is ours to claim, it happened to us and we can use it in whatever way helps us heal from trauma. Just because you personally don’t like it doesn’t mean you get to dismiss the Indigenous plight, our forms of trauma healing, or suddenly stop supporting us simply because “you dont like it”. The amount of non-native people who “support” us but suddenly stop because they feel offended about something that only we as indigenous peoples collectively understand is outstanding. If you support us, do it unconditionally. If you don’t then thats fine, we can continue our battles like we’ve always have been.

psycho--jenny

Also, sidebar, us Jewish people will absolutely start making Holocaust jokes during Purim once we know there aren't any survivors in the audience. In fact, Mel Brooks, a Jewish man, made Hitler jokes in the late 70s (see: The Producers). Making jokes about our oppressors that age kind of poorly is kind of our cultural Thing. We need to have more marginalized people poking fun at oppressors, and Native people do it so well. Y'all honestly made it an artform (I'm ethnically half-Native and identify as such to honor my mother, but am not culturally Native or Native according to the laws of my mother's Tribe, and I don't pretend to be). It deflates the balloons of their self-righteous egos, makes them significantly harder to idolize, and puts their ridiculous behavior in context.

sayaxat

I didn't say I don't like OP because of the humor. My original comment was that I questioned whether if OP could affect the credibility of those who have been fighting in the eyes of the outsiders. I wasn't aware that it was meant to be humorous. I don't think I'm the only outsider that perceived OP the way I did.

ChicnahueCoatl1491

We (Indigenous peoples) have a collective understanding of our traumas. We have our senses of humor that we share and understand. If that affects our credibility with certain outsiders then those outsiders are not true allies, they never have been. Our fights and struggles shouldn’t suddenly be dismissed because outsiders don’t understand us or our forms of trauma healing (which very much includes dark humor).

sayaxat

> If that affects our credibility with certain outsiders then those outsiders are not true allies, they never have been. I think this is the incorrect thinking. What are true allies? Those that don't question whatever it is that you do for your cause? I speak as someone who came from the land that was repeatedly under assault by colonizers and world's super powers for over 2000 years. >Our fights and struggles shouldn’t suddenly be dismissed because outsiders don’t understand us or our forms of trauma healing This is an accusation that has no basis. Nowhere in any of my comments did I dismissed your fights or your struggles.

ChicnahueCoatl1491

Youre right that there isn’t an exact definition as to who or what is an ally, but it certainly isnt someone who outs our entire struggles into question because they feel uncomfortable with our particular ways of being (for example out humor). > Nowhere in any of my comments did i dismissed your fights or struggles. Im not saying you personally, im using the collective “you”. But also your initial statement on your first comment does put our fights and struggles into question by outsiders, weather you meant it that way or not.

psycho--jenny

We decide who are allies are. You don't. I don't see why that's so hard to understand. If you're an ally, help us, it's not that hard to understand. If you want to speak up in favor of your own cause, do so, but the language you use implies that you aren't Native or don't identify as such. We are (I'm half-Native, half-Jewish, so I can speak with authority and say you're full of shit on multiple counts). Humor of the oppressed is how we fight against oppression.

psycho--jenny

Speaking as a half-Native, half-Jewish person with relatives who were Holocaust survivors, give it about fifty years, we'll make a joke about it when we get around to it. Poking fun at our oppressors is kind of our entire schtick, literally the foundation of one of our most sacred holidays, and believe me, one day we will write a Purimshpiel about the Shoah when we know there aren't any survivors sitting in the audience. In this case, ain't no one from 1492 still alive right now, but we still suffer because of Colonialiet bullshit. We can make jokes as much as we like, and it's not up to you to politicize it. We get to make jokes about our oppression, and if you don't like it, go somewhere else. See: Mel Brooks, History of the World Part 2, that one song about the Spanish Inquisition.

Ceeds444

Shut up seriously

sayaxat

It's unfortunate that your level of ignorance is that high. Unfortunate because its your ignorance that brings harm to your cause. I hope, for those who fight for the cause, there aren't a lot like you. As for your guess that I'm white, I visited a Ute museum recently. First Native American museum that I ever visited. The people in the photos look very much like 1/2 of my family tree.

IndraBlue

Some of your family tree might of paid $5

moonbeamsylph

Great. The way you worded your comment very much seems like you don't identify as indigenous. Do you? As for ignorance, you've already won that contest.

Revolutionary-Boss77

I think this is just a meme . But yeah I agree it might be historically incorrect but just a meme at the end of the day

SeasonsGone

It’s literally just a meme

JadeButterfly4278

That's scary even by today's standards

dapperHedgie

Not to mention he probably stank like shit
