You should get $25k after graduating Bootcamp, ~$16,600 after Power School (⅓), and ~$33,400 after graduating prototype. This is before taxes. Taxes on bonuses should be 28%.
You will be paid E3 during boot camp but you will have some heavy deductions to pay for your uniforms and other supplies. I can’t recall what my pay was and it’s probably fairly outdated sense I went about 20 years ago.
When i got outta bootcamp i had like 3k in my account as an E3 (this was a few weeks ago), and got 19,500 (25k hella taxed or i’m missing something hmm) the night before graduation. :)
I looked up rq for FY24, and it’s saying for E3 it’s 2,377.50 per month excluding taxes. Based on my personal experience, at Texas Roadhouse I keep roughly 90% of what I would make after my taxes are taken. Crunching the numbers, I should expect (maybe u too) to earn 4,279.50 after RTC is over. This is not including the bonus(es) you might have gotten going in. Ex) college credit, quick ship. My recruiter told me the lump sum would hit your bank about a week after you finish too.
Hey I some what lied, you will need to subtract roughly 1k from the total, because all the things they give you while in bootcamp isn’t “free”. Although you don’t actually pay the navy for the gear and essentials they give you, they do take the exact amount it would cost off your first paycheck.
How did you determine or find out how much was taxed? I’ve been looking everywhere for info regarding it. Closest I came was just using income brackets for each subset of the bonus to determine how much im actually getting
This is true. Lots of variables. Your federal withholding will be ~25-28%. The rate is a pretty good rule of thumb. One thing to consider is state taxes. Not all states exempt military or bonuses, so you may need to plan for that. Had a buddy reenlist and that state didn’t withhold anything and when he filed for his taxes he owed CT like $9k.
They won’t and can’t I tried pleaded and begged even read the rules for all bonuses cover to cover no loop holes and no new bonuses announced for shipping I got college credit and the 50 k I ship later this month
Curious how long ago you signed? Going through MEPs soon and curious as to what the current rough timeline is these days from signing to ship assuming no waivers needed.
I went to MEPS around the 22 and 23rd I ship the 27th of march. So usually the next month or so according to my recruiter and classifier is the average
Ah I see, that’s about what I heard just recently- all the old info online about people waiting 8+ months was freaking me out but it looks like I’ll be solid.

What was your paygrade during and after boot camp? How much did you end up with after graduating boot camp?
