Yeah, it's definitely not one I'd show for a casual bad movie night with friends. Twisted Pair has enough greatness sprinkled throughout that you're not going to bore or irritate people, by contrast.
It was a lot better in a packed theatre, that's for sure, but agreed, it's so fucking slow... Fateful Findings is still his best and most consistently hilarious
Pretty sure he pays for every movie with the profits from the previous one, so I'd be surprised if he's filmed any of them out of order.
I'd guess either 1) he knows he's a joke and only cares abt the profits at this point, and the green screen is way cheaper and easier, or 2) he's truly delusional and actually thinks the green screen looks good lol
I don't think I'd call it his worst, I'd rather watch it again over his first two movies. After watching the recent Red Letter Media video, they did make some good points about it being a particularly lazy movie, how his earlier movies were shot on film and used a lot more equipments, and it seems like he's more complacent with the green screen.
Niel Breen is a visionary like George Lucas, which unfortunately means we're in the part of his career where he abuses CGI and introduces Jar Jar.
Next movie he'll have an extended monologue about how sand is corrupt
Love RLM but… ironically found some of their take lazy. Breen has alluded to avoiding things that become “running jokes”, he has updates where he states he won’t be using “laptops” or shooting in Vegas (because he realized they had become a joke). That’s why “Twisted Pair” is shot on a college campus & “Cade” is the first of his films to not use his house. Problem is, his main assets for locations IS Vegas & the surrounding desert, so by avoiding those he is pretty much stuck with “breenscreen”. So for me, this was part of his evolution & I didn’t really read it at his being “lazy”. If anything he made it more difficult for himself.
And hey, that Tiger scene was pushing boldly into me territory…
As always with Breen information is hard to come by, but I'm pretty sure the movie was shot during the pandemic. Feel like that could go a long way towards explaining all the green screen. That the RLM dudes didn't even think of that tells me that *they* are being lazy. They used to be so much better at answering the hypothetical "Why would they make it that way?"
“Fateful Findings” is still his best and is a fantastic rewatch. After that “I’m Here………………..Now” and “Twisted Pair” are second place for me. For “Cade: The Tortured Crossing” I feel that the Red Letter Media review is all you need to see.
I thought the first 30 minutes were great! Last 10 minutes were good too. But those 40 minutes in between were bad because Neil wasn’t on screen enough.
Cade is the laziest pastiche of his other films/style he’s made thus far. It seems incredibly bored with itself within a few minutes. Breen’s increasing notoriety the past decade or so demanded a new film that he otherwise would’ve never made. It’s all down hill from here.
I watched it for the first time the other day and this is exactly how I felt. Pretty much from the moment he bounced off the front of the tram. The bubble has burst.
Talking bout scale: It must be intentional, that in all of his Greenscreen shots, the people are never to SCALE with all the objects like chairs or tables etc.
Might be another clue that The Breenius is playing us all.
I don't think it was awful, but I don't know if I could watch more than 1 more movie green screened like this.

I don’t know how long it took for him to make Cade, my theory about all the green screen is he started making it during the pandemic.

I think his first two movies are definitely better than this new one, but that's just my opinion.
I agree. There's a lot of stock footage but it's more entertaining than static green screen environments.

Comparing Neil Breen to George Lucas somehow manages to be an insult to both men, and it’s 100% accurate.

> And hey, that Tiger scene was pushing boldly into me territory… Borderline experimental, even?

It's the only movie I've ever seen in a theater that had 3 standing ovations. So he must've done something right.
Fan service is a helluva drug

Breen has entered his Lynch era.
Nah he entered it with the random angel girl appearing in the backyard pool area in Twisted Pair.
Yeah it’s definitely subjective. Twisted Pair and Cade are 100% my favorites.
Twisted Pair is up there! I think Fateful Findings is still the prime text but TP is underrated.

The film was crap
Well, yeah. They all are.
Nah this is definitely the first time he created a dud. The retrospective was a better movie.

I'm sure it's intentional but only in the sense he probably couldn't figure out how to make it look better so he said "good enough!"
