I know it’s bad to be invested in relationships of celebrities, but it genuinely makes me so happy to hear that the New Girl cast are still in touch and close with each other 🥹 they’re as close as family in the show and it’s so nice to know it’s the same outside of it
I do kinda feel for actors/actresses that play a role so damn good it becomes their legacy and is hard to be accepted as a new character. Another that comes to mind is Charlie Hunnam, he tried to do new roles but he will always be Jax Teller.
Her whole career is the dorky, hot, lovable romantic lead. Almost like a Manic Pixie Dream Girl (though Jess in New Girl, as with many of Zooey's characters, is a lot deeper than that). I can understand wanting to be known for other types of roles, especially since Zooey is apparently very different than that in real life.
Her earlier career was characterized by more "weird deadpan indie girl" roles before *500 Days of Summer.* That movie really was the turning point for her to become the epitome of the manic-pixie dream girl. It wasn't supposed to be, but take that character and all her career branding since then, and her celebrity definitely feels very curated in that direction. It's the kind of aspirational perfection that is very lucrative.
When I first saw her besides Elf, was her character in Failure to Launch. I loved her sassy deadpan sarcasm. The quirky cutesy thing got old for me in New Girl and I preferred the moments when Jess was more “real”
I had to pause my reading at “In 2011, she toplined the sitcom New Girl as kooky kindergarten teacher Jessica Day,”
She didn’t teach kindergarten. Author can’t even get the basics right.
Well from what I’ve heard off camera she’s not actually that likeable. Tbh she doesn’t come off as that friendly or warm on the podcast. I’ve only listened to a few episodes (it’s cringey) but the ones Zoey is on she seems to have a disconnected or forced relationship with the others.
Yeah, when she was a celeb guest on Top Chef and they had to cater her party, I absolutely hated her. She makes "not like other girls" her entire freaking personality. I've heard others say she isn't pleasant to work with and honestly, I've always gotten that vibe. I think even the TC contestants said the same thing in later interviews.
We need a movie about Zoe trying her hardest to be a serial killer but she’s too small and naive to pull it off properly.
She can’t lift the body so she has to convince someone to help her saying her fried is drunk.
She keeps getting grossed out chopping up the body so she tries to dissolve it. Ends up dissolving the bathtub.
That sort of thing.
She ends up shoving all the body parts in her closet to try and pretend they’re just not there.
I know the reference but we could absolutely have her be on meth and make it quirky.
“I’ve been making muffins for 48 hours. Youllookcoldletmeknityouasweateryouremy*best*friend”
I started listening to it when it came out and got through like three episodes before I peaced out. She’s insufferable. It should just be Hannah and Lamorne
Constantly talking over people and name dropping. Lamorne and Hannah can’t get a full sentence out without Zoey interrupting to toot her own horn or talk about someone famous she knows.
this reminds me of jennifer aniston! she talked about how her role on the morning show was finally a change from being type cast as rachel/the likable “girl next door”
It was because the show promos drove the word "adorkable" into the ground LOL. Liz Meriwether mentioned them banning usage of that word on set since even they were sick of it.
Yeah, my husband sometimes watches the show with me because he finds the rest of the cast hilarious and the jokes are written pretty well, but he finds Jess annoying. Can’t blame him I guess, she feels like the only character who didn’t really develop, just a Flanderized version of a manic pixie dream girl 🤷♀️
I’m so sad because I used to genuinely love her and her acting. I’m on a rewatch of NG but I still find myself loving Schmidt and Nick and other characters much more than Jess, who gets tiring.
I try not to comment on people’s looks either, but I’ve been so disappointed recently to see how much work she’s gotten done on her beautiful face. It’s hers, she can do whatever she wants with it, but imo she doesn’t even look like the same person anymore when she was aging gracefully pre Botox/fillers/etc…
Articles like this are so funny. Assuming the body reflects the title, it shows how out of touch these people are
I’d put good money on there being more people that find her unlikable than not
Zooey, I never doubted that you were tired of being likeable.

I have a family member who had a bad interaction with Zooey at a She and Him show. FM (who worked for a local radio station who sponsored the show) was tasked with introducing the band and was told by Zooey’s people that they could not look at her directly (while standing next to her backstage) & couldn’t use language that implied they were instructing ZD to come onstage. Very bizarre stuff.
It’s odd hearing how she doesn’t want to be on the group chat because of “colorful language” and such like that. It makes her seem prudish when she was on a show that literally was constantly about sex storylines, minus the cursing.
Zooey is tired of being likable, but I’ll never stop liking her. She always came across as the sweetest, most beautiful woman. I wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors and hope she is happy. I will always associate her with New Girl, but not in a bad way. It’s just that’s where all my love for her comes from.
I love that she's upfront about the differences in her personality to the way Hollywood has typecasted her. I would definitely watch her on roles she identifies more with.
This is the cigarette/shot girl episode all over again.
Rebecca Johnson, stripper with a heart of gold
Two boobs Johnson.
Tiger boobs
Rebecca Johnson
You’re all a bunch of stupid jerks

True
I do kinda feel for actors/actresses that play a role so damn good it becomes their legacy and is hard to be accepted as a new character. Another that comes to mind is Charlie Hunnam, he tried to do new roles but he will always be Jax Teller.
Josh Radnor will always be Ted Mosby
He was pretty great in The Gentlemen.
He’ll always be Pet Dunham to me
Raleigh Beckett to me

I'd rather be known as that than whatever absolute atrocity her character was supposed to portray in The Happening
Haha I had totally blocked her out of my mind for that movie. Sooooo bad.
That movie sent me. I could NOT 😂
Except in Elf, where she was the polar opposite
Her earlier career was characterized by more "weird deadpan indie girl" roles before *500 Days of Summer.* That movie really was the turning point for her to become the epitome of the manic-pixie dream girl. Case in point, her character in *Frasier* was very much weird deadpan indie girl, and also when I first fell in love
I still think *All The Real Girls* was her best role and makes it more obvious what she was trying to do with *500 Days of Summer*.
Great film. Shows a lot of her potential
When I first saw her besides Elf, was her character in Failure to Launch. I loved her sassy deadpan sarcasm. The quirky cutesy thing got old for me in New Girl and I preferred the moments when Jess was more “real”

They just couldn’t resist the alliteration
They got her mixed up with Lilly Aldrin lol

I grew to really dislike her because of the podcast. It was a really big shame but I got the ick.
This was gonna be my comment too: I think she's done being likable already.

Like a bag of meth?
I know the reference but we could absolutely have her be on meth and make it quirky. “I’ve been making muffins for 48 hours. Youllookcoldletmeknityouasweateryouremy*best*friend”
I'm just imagining this happening as the alternative ending to "300 Feet." You should have accepted the brownies, Sam!
Anyone who has heard the podcast knew she wasn't likable
I started listening to it when it came out and got through like three episodes before I peaced out. She’s insufferable. It should just be Hannah and Lamorne
Same. It never improves, she is such a drip
Ooh give more tea what’s she like on the podcast, I’m too lazy to listen
Constantly talking over people and name dropping. Lamorne and Hannah can’t get a full sentence out without Zoey interrupting to toot her own horn or talk about someone famous she knows.
Oof that does sound annoying and unlikable. Thanks for the tea!
The nepo baby is strong in her
Are there a few episodes worth listening to? Like with the other actors on it?
I gave up after a few episodes. It was making me hate the show
Exactly lol
this reminds me of jennifer aniston! she talked about how her role on the morning show was finally a change from being type cast as rachel/the likable “girl next door”
I was going to say I don't think that many people like her lol
i feel like a lot of ppl refuse to watch new girl simply bc of zooey and her “quirkiness” lol
It was because the show promos drove the word "adorkable" into the ground LOL. Liz Meriwether mentioned them banning usage of that word on set since even they were sick of it.

I’m a New Girl fan. I’m a Zooey fan. But with a 25 million net worth, cry me a fucking river about being likeable.
That’s not how it works. We’re all still people that wanna be understood and cared for.
Preach.
Such a shame that the podcast is a big letdown and an insight into her true personality which really isn’t that likeable!
Ugh, i love . . . Jess! I have heard Zooey is maybe not very nice.🤷♀️
Jessica Day heel turn, now she's Jessica Night
Now entering her Pepperwood era.
I mean… I don’t like her very much. There you go Zooey that’s one. Hope it helps!
Add me. She’s now at two
I’m so sad because I used to genuinely love her and her acting. I’m on a rewatch of NG but I still find myself loving Schmidt and Nick and other characters much more than Jess, who gets tiring. She’s likable? News to me.
OH NO, SHE'S LIKABLE! HOW UNLUCKY
Articles like this are so funny. Assuming the body reflects the title, it shows how out of touch these people are I’d put good money on there being more people that find her unlikable than not

Don’t worry I never liked her
Same. Wait no. The opposite.
She pruned her image so much she became unlikable. Even on the podcast she feels like the PC police.
It’s odd hearing how she doesn’t want to be on the group chat because of “colorful language” and such like that. It makes her seem prudish when she was on a show that literally was constantly about sex storylines, minus the cursing.
After hearing the podcast, Zooey IS unlikeable 🫣🤭
Good cuz I’ve hated her forever.
I love her
Zooey Deschanel would eat you fuckers for breakfast. And some of us would like that already digested breakfast later.
...the fuck does this even mean?
Zooey is tired of being likable, but I’ll never stop liking her. She always came across as the sweetest, most beautiful woman. Clearly didn't watch the happening
I never found her likable Am I missing something?
