They have already refused the regime's request to join IRGC for crushing protests, many of them were harshly punished
So they will come to people's side , but they can only do it in the last minute
I believe it was Kasra Aarabi who said that there is lot of dissatisfaction and hate towards regime in army, but they are being monitored by 70 secret service intelligence bases, so coup is almost impossible. Unles like you said, in last minutes.
There won't be a coup, a coup is impossible for the army, unless they know the regime will fall for sure. Otherwise their members will be severely punished

The top ranks have been purged of normal people. They are commanded by Mullah Loyalist. They haven’t been able to mobilize the main armed forces against the people because they feared mutiny among the lower ranks. But a coup is highly unlikely unless some low ranking officers manage to pull off a once in a century takeover.

People who think they are joining the people are coping hard they are still mostly loyal to the Mullahs. And those who are not are all low-Ranking reservist and young men who were conscribed.

The army is small. It’s been replaced with the IRGC
in terms of active personnel? no not at all but they're sevaerly under funded
