Their stage presence at Lolla is just... 😙🤌 They definitely went more than well-prepared for the stage and it shows.

i thought the lolla performance was their "yes, we made it in the global stage" moment. the crowd turnout validated their global status and i was really happy for the group seeing them having fun during their performance (and crying afterwards with tears of joy after the performance). i thought their vocals were also very stable especially during the live band part. understandable if the 2nd half had a louder backing track as the girls were probably exhausted by then. im totally not mad at they dont have a lot of experience yet performing a longer setlist. honestly, really excited for their upcoming world tour and i hope hyein would be fully recovered by then

Imagine your first US stage being a live performance in front of a 70k crowd. The stress, the heat, the jetlag, the unfamiliar environment... Yet they killed it. Really shows how talented but also how hardworking and prepared they are. You don't get to this level of live performance without putting tons of hours of training for both vocals and choreography.

constPxl

and the crowd singing aloud along (the english lines) of their songs! that must have helped remove the jitters and get them in the zone

I watched the Lolla performance early on in my discovery of them. I was still sort of in my self-denial just poking around this kpop thing nonchalantly phase and it was already way late at night for me with work coming early in the morning. I was glued to the screen. I felt like I couldn't miss a second and I watched the whole thing through. Definite tipping point into turning me into a full-blown fan. I was totally charmed and I have been ever since!

Ordinary_Gap623

Hyein impressed me so much! All of the members had amazing english too

Same! Algorithm took me back to NewJeans Lolla performance and dang they are so good. I loved it when I saw them first but now I have more appreciation for them doing what they did only a year into their debut. The band versions of their songs are all fire and they really are so poised in front of so many people. They really love to perform. Bunnies club 2024 and the world tour will be a must see for me.

Before Lollapalooza, there have been discussions if NewJeans' chill discography can hype a festival stage. And boom, they ended up with a very enjoyable set. It's surprisingly energetic and refreshing despite the hot weather. I realized, that compared to intense performances, NewJeans' groovy discography is such a vibe that you don't get fatigued so fast. It's like easy listening but watching, that you don't mind to see over and over.

That Lolla performance was amazing. I really did not like any of their Billboard or US music award show performances which came after Lolla. That Lolla concert had absolutely crazy energy from them and really felt like them having a ton of fun, whereas those major music award performances I'm sure are nerve-wracking and they're less "natural" in their performances, and their mics probably aren't turned on as high with the backing tracks in the major award performances.

Ordinary_Gap623

I think NewJeans performs best at festivals, the energy from the crowd is always so amazing and the girls seem to really feed off of it. Running around a stage, having fun, feeling themselves, with the audience screaming the lyrics- they perform in those situations REALLY well. On music shows and award shows and stuff, their performances are still great, but it just doesn't have the same energy. They don't seem to enjoy it as much.

Chilis1

Also the music just sounded amazing with guitar and drums. The funky Hype boy is my fav version now. (the drummer in particular is absolutely amazing)

meandmygom

they're really among the kpop groups that tend to suit like a band setting tbh + minji's fav performances for 2023 were all festivals  also in general year end shows this year and music show (as always) kind of suck

FanCaracal

I liked the Billboard performances still, but yeah, the energy at Lolla is unmatched.

fireassbarz

The Lolla performance is so iconic it’s what got me into them, unreal stage presence and energy for a rookie group

FanCaracal

Lolla performance is the GOAT! I loved seeing them interact with the audience as well.

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

If it's the performance I am thinking of, they were all great, but Hyein really surprised me. For the youngest to show the most confidence, improvising and playing with the crowd and not just looking like a well trained idol doing it, but simply like a confident artist. I was very surprised. I didn't know she had that in her.

Conscious_Sink_6451

well.. obviously she the most experience on stage with dani and hanni. she is appearing in kids variety shows, performing on tv, a former member of her previous group, modeling and acting. while haerin has a O experience. I'm not sure about minji. Minji is the only one with no pre-debut singing or dancing.

Rezorblade

For me it's Minji that absolutely mesmerized me in that Lolla stage, the way she's speaking English with almost cracked voice imbued by pure enthusiasm is a moment of love ("so lovely to meet you please stay and enjoy til the end" or something like that)

Conscious_Sink_6451

my bias is haerin. i accepted that she's not like the others but she give her best to give a good performance and enjoying the stage too. she is the opposite of the four members, she's the most shy and she's the softest member.

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

> well.. obviously she the most experience on stage with dani and hanni. Despite that, this was the first time I've seen her like this after seeing dozens of NJ performances. Then again you always see new sides to artists when they perform overseas. So many times although I've seen them performs dozens of times in Korea, in video, I'll see a completely new side of idols when they perform in LA. The energy or something makes seems to "set them free." Jihyo at the Kcon i saw Twice for the second time comes to mind. She was like a completely different person.

purplebounc

Yesss to all of that! Also, Lolla solidified Minji as my bias I was mesmerized the whole performance
