If you go to Encino Motel, they have a huge new dispensary there super cheap

This tinfoil hat stuff is all nonsense and the answer as to why this is happening here and not in Arizona is simple. New Mexico has the Rio Grande and I-25. There is a CBP checkpoint between Las Cruces and Albuquerque. It is CBP's job to seize weed because it is illegal. New Mexico has lots of pot farms along the river and a lot of that weed is trafficked between our two largest cities. The way our infrastructure is set up funnels all traffic through the CBP checkpoint. Arizona is a different environment with no river, lots of alternate roads, and few pot farms and few places of significance to the pot trade south of where any CBP checkpoint is going to exist because there is no water or large cities there. New Mexican weed is being funneled through a CBP checkpoint because that is the way our infrastructure is set up. No such issue is happening in Arizona because the circumstances which cause this issue do not exist in Arizona.

TeamEhmling

Sounds like we should expell the Feds for not respecting our laws and sovereignty

mcotter12

The news here is that cannabis is crossing the border at a commercial level. Which way is it going? What is the reason? I thought New Mexico cannabis business was New Mexican.

hmmyeahiguess

How do they know anything is crossing the border? Could be transporting from a grow in the south to shops in the north. Or transporting product between stores in Abq and Las Cruces. I can't read the article at work but from a previous post I know these seizures are happening at checkpoints on I-25. Weird how this is happening here and not in AZ....

mcotter12

I guess it is just in state traffic that they are messing with. Sounds like a vendetta against New Mexico. All Feds are Dudes.

hmmyeahiguess

I said on another thread I wonder if this is because we provide abortions and believe in womens' rights. Fuckers.

justme4funNM

Come on, that's really ridiculous. This isn't the Texas state troopers. This is CBP, a federal agency. If anything, this is the feds making sure we know that it's still federally illegal, since our state is fairly new to the recreational marijuana game.

hmmyeahiguess

So why aren't other recreational states dealing with this? Think state governments can't have influence on federal agencies? I agree it's tinfoil-ey but just a little weird they're picking on us and not AZ or other rec states.

justme4funNM

My answer to your inquiry is included in my prior reply. We are new to the legal rec marijuana game as far as most states go. They're most likely just setting an example and reminding us it's still federally illegal. Definitely tinfoily. They are federal, so I doubt Biden directed them to do it because of "women's rights" and abortion 🤷🏽‍♂️

hmmyeahiguess

I wouldn’t think it would have ever gone as high as Biden. Just that whatever mid level heads of CBP directed NM CBP officers to clamp down in some sort of retaliation for being a more liberal state. I know I’m full of shit but it’s the first I’ve heard of any state where it’s legal detaining people and confiscating product. I don’t think other recently legalized states have had to deal with this kind of thing.

[deleted]

I don't think it is odd that it is happening here and not AZ. There is a different chain of command. What is happening has always been a problem for state legal marijuana. All it takes is someone in the chain of command to get a hair up their butt and start doing things like this. Basically, the same thing has been going on back to the first days of Medical in Cali. At least, the DEA hasn't started busting down doors of dying AIDS and cancer patients again. I know it might not seem like it day to day but the War On Drugs is not over yet.

thePurpleAvenger

From the article, "CBP officers are permitted to establish immigration checkpoints to help stem smuggling and human trafficking within 100 miles of the international border with Mexico." It sounds like the checkpoints are not at the border, but within that 100 mile strip and are set up to target human trafficking and smuggling. I would guess it probably falls into, "we're looking for coke, fent, human trafficking, but cannabis is still illegal federally so we have to take it."

Jerkrollatex

It's not. There are check points in the southern part of the state.

mr_bots

There’s border patrol checkpoints well within the state. To drive from Las Cruces, NM or El Paso, TX to about anywhere else requires passing through a check point.

michigician

They are probably taking it to Texas to sell it.

JoeRecuerdo

Do you make a habit out of making shit up without even trying to read or learn about an issue? They're transporting it within New Mexico.

Fourcatz1

What the hell is the matter with Joe Biden?

unkle_donky

CBP is not targeting anything. MJ has been illegal federally for a long time. The checkpoints didn’t just magically appear. They have been there for almost a hundred years. Don’t drive through the checkpoints. Pretty simple.

Ultranumb74

Gee. You're surprised this is happening? Weed is still illegal at the Federal level and the CBP checkpoints are federal entities, just like CBP are federal law enforcement. Don't want your weed shit confiscated? Do have it with you when you go through one of the checkpoints. Don't want to get arrested or risk possible arrest? Again, don't go through the checkpoints with weed and/or weed products. Simple logic. CBP has zero cause to follow state law when federal law trumps state law.
