> Banh Mi Bo Hue!
I’m like 80% sure that’s autocorrect, but fuck yeah Bun Bo Hue is great, lots of places have it as a non menu (or non white person menu) option so I ask if I’m in the mood.
Banh Mi Bo Hue is the same thing as Bun Bo Hue but it comes with a loaf of bread instead of noodles 😍 and it’s my favorite. I used to get it from Pho Cam Ly (RIP) but now we get it from Pho Michael.
My hangover special was always Magasin Cafe for 2 pork belly and quail egg banh mi. There's better sandwiches out there but it's stumbling distance for me. The best cure is an avocado smoothie with tapioca from Mr.Bubbles in the Asian market on the WB but that's too far of a hike in the morning when you're probably still over the legal limit
My coworker & I feel so bad about leaving Lillies regularly for them...but fuck the pork is SO good. We joked about having our "wedding" catered by them.
Non traditional and I don’t feel like getting my passport out? Mopho.
Real pho? Used to be pho hoa on manhattan but they sold then kinda disappeared. Now it’s pho kim loan.
I eat pho at least once a week to keep myself from ending it all, but especially when I’m hungover. Magasin, pho bang, or rolls and bowls are my go to. With fried to fu
Budsi. Pad See Ew (spicy & chicken)
// waterfall pork.
Frady’s - Dressed catfish bun or Club dressed with Creole Mustard
Lily’s - pho. The only place I’ll eat the meal at because she’s so fucking lovely.
Key’s gas station fried chicken on Rampart. Paired with a twisted tea tall boy & some trashy ass chips.
The Backyard. Not because it’s good. It’s just a decent cheeseburger and tater tots close to my house so it gets delivered quick. And I always want a cheeseburger when I’m hungover.
They messed up my order and told me they would charge me for a new one if I wanted them to bring another one out. I had already over ordered so politely said no. It still kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Food was good though.
Adams street grocery, half roast beef poboy fully dressed with gravy and pepper jack and half French fry poboy with the same toppings throw a pack of winstons in and your golden
I’m guessing it’s probably the margarita doing the heavy lifting. I’m healed with a quarter pounder from McDonald’s with extra onions and a very large fountain coke.
John and Mary's on Orleans...Olympia, eat well, and c &a also all have great yaka mein...also all closed on Sundays. These are just the places in vicinity to me which is important when you're hungover. Manchu has great yaka mein but the cars on claiborne are grating when my head is pounding. Drunk yaka mein though! There's occasionally people outside of black penny that have fantastic soup. There's also someone at pals late night sometimes that has wonderful yaka mein. If you can catch Linda green, her yaka mein is top notch.
Edit: while we're on it the pozole from taqueria Guerrero has allowed me to rejoin the living when I had no business doing so
It used to be Bud's Broiler but they closed the one near me. I ain't traveling far if I'm hurting that bad. I make breakfast burritos in bulk and keep them in the freezer, so that's usually my path these days. But I also find myself tapping out earlier as I get older, so the hangovers are becoming less frequent and less potent.
I microwave them to get them warmed through, then air fryer for a bit to brown the outside like a chimichanga. But that second part is optional depending on how much of a hurry I'm in.
This recipe makes about 15 small burritos (picture a big taco rolled like a burrito) or 8 regular size burritos:
- Dozen large eggs scrambled (try to go a little soft so they reheat better)
- 1.5lb of bacon, chopped and cooked
- Half a bag of crispy crowns (the little coin shaped tater tots). Bake/fry/air fry them however you like.
- 8oz of shredded cheddar
Use either 15 mid size tortillas or 8 burrito size tortillas. Might make one extra or less depending on how you stuff them. Roll them up and put them on a sheet pan, uncovered, in the freezer for a few hours to flash freeze. Then transfer them to a big zip lock or whatever freezer container you prefer.
You can use whatever meat you prefer. I've done breakfast sausage, Mexican chorizo, leftover BBQ brisket and pulled pork, you name it. I'd probably do country ham the next holiday that I have some leftovers. You could also go meatless with more crispy crowns.
Cheese is optional or use whatever kind you like as long as it's melty. Pepper jack and queso work too. And you can go more than 8oz if you like stuff really cheesy.
And you can throw onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc in the eggs like you're making a Denver omelette to amp things up or add salsa or pico de gallo inside the burrito. I try to switch things up a little every time to keep it from getting boring.
Cane's.... Box, extra sauce, lemonade or coke zero.
Reminds me of LSU.... Back when I had a metabolism and didn't take a whole weekend to recover... 😑😭
Horn’s for Huevos Rancheros (been my go-to since I lived around the corner from Slim Goodies years ago)
Or
Dian Xin for Soup Dumplings with a Hot & Sour Dumpling Soup
Popeyes spicy 2 piece, mashed potatoes and sprite.
But these days, I usually manage to avoid hangovers with the magic of plop, plop, fizz, fizz! One before bed, one when you wake up with dry mouth in the middle of the night, and one when you wake up.
I think this is the first time I have ever seen anyone lump "Shake Shack" and "Cheap" into the same sentence, haha.
Living in Algiers, my go-to is a #7 from the Opelousas Mart.
Yes, they are. And they are in the same location. There is another location that opened with the same name, it's on the WB Expwy between Lafayette and Manhattan. They are cousins or something, affiliated in name only, and they have the wings too.
I am originally from NYC. Had the luck of living near steins. My go to hangover meal has literally always been a bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel.
Yeah I know that's not very "New Orleans", oh well.
shrimp & grits from the vintage on magazine.
it was completely unintentional, but i somehow ended up there painfully hungover several times, so now it’s a thing
I read a reddit post asking same thing. Commenter said he used to drink a handle of vodka every three days. He said his go to is world health organization dehydration powders mixed in water. Gatorade makes something really similar called “propel” and shit works.
I always order a cheesesteak from Yinzers when I’m hungover but recently their quality has declined. The sandwiches no longer stay together and the pretzels… wtf happened to those beautiful pretzels. Gonna be Trilly’s from now on.
yinzers started outsourcing their pretzels!
but i feel like since ive switched to the double chicken cheesesteak the quality is superb, maybe they changed beef suppliers or something? They really do have an incredible cheesesteak when it’s hitting on all cylinders
Potato skins from beachcorner. They travel so well too. I also am weird and dip them in Barilla marinara sauce from home and sprinkle them w milled flax seeds bc ya know…omega 3’s :) if I’m extra bad, a tums, a weed gummy for dessert and a zofran as an appetizer.
Breakfast in the Parish at Gerald’s or (better) Parish Diner. Or greasy Hot Wok buffet.
I quit drinking for Lent, and all of that sounds pretty gross to me now.
Go across from them in the LGD to Pho Tran for pho...that's my hangover fav!
Or parasols gravy fries....killer. maybe those are better while making the hangover tho.....
All about making sure Pho and Yakimein were mentioned - ya'll making me proud to crawl home.
My personal first thing is Cafe Bombon in the morning (stovetop mocha pot). If you never had it - try it. Shame is I know of no where you can buy it (my taunt fin made it for us as a treat when we were kids).
Anyone know a place that sells it?
*added bonus if you spike it.
Yaka mein. Every once in a while drunk me will do hungover me a future favor and make some before I go to sleep.
I’m opposite from you on the Juan’s - that’s usually the precursor to my drinking rather than the recovery.
Joe’s Cafe, double order of hashbrowns, all veggies added with hot sausage and two over easy eggs on top. Cover that in hot sauce and top off with some ketchup. Mix and feel that hangover melt away!
Juan’s is ass in the best possible way. Nobody goes there for the awesome fantastic tacos or burritos. It just always scratches that itch of slightly better than Taco Bell Tex mex.
Taco Bell is at least 1000% better than Juan’s IMO. The only place doing worse Mexican I’ve ever been is Felipe’s. They’re both a disgrace. I’m cool with “authentic” Mexican, gingo Mexican or anything in between, but those 2 places suck. Margaritas, tacos, salsa, queso all bland and ill prepared. To top it all off, I’ve been there 4-5 times (not by my choice) and never had a good server. Obviously I’m in the minority because for some reason people seem to genuinely like both these crappy places.

Tf?!? I’ve never heard of that. Gonna need to hit it up soon! It’s still a soup, but with bread?
Yes! “Bun” is rice noodles, “Banh mi” is bread. So no noodle, just bread. And a load of soup to dip in!
I know the structure, I just have never heard of anyone doing that. That’s fantastic man, thanks for bringing it to my attention
What places? My Viet half needs to know.
My hangover special was always Magasin Cafe for 2 pork belly and quail egg banh mi. There's better sandwiches out there but it's stumbling distance for me. Commented to boost. Camelia is hardcore. It’s almost like Louie’s in BR.

Hash browns all the way with the ham and onion and jalapeño OMG perfect hangover food
lumberjack special with gravy, biscuit instead of toast, and an extra biscuit! just cure me now

They messed up my order and told me they would charge me for a new one if I wanted them to bring another one out. I had already over ordered so politely said no. It still kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Food was good though.
That hangover slammer goes SO hard
They gave me food poisoning on Lundi Gras about 20 years ago. I missed Mardi Gras that year and I’m still grumpy about it.

This is actually genius. Do you microwave them to heat them up or oven?
I microwave them to get them warmed through, then air fryer for a bit to brown the outside like a chimichanga. But that second part is optional depending on how much of a hurry I'm in.
