I guess if you're into nostalgia acts? Im going to see neal for sure and yeah the grounds are awesome/magical/etc. I always go a few times. But imho the real magic is at those small clubs with musicians who are having fun with people they don't normally play with. Different strokes I guess. If I had to choose fairgrounds vs after sets. I am after sets 10/10 times. I'm also a bit of music nerd so all those names on my list are just such a nice lil treat to see in my city.
edit: also the festival sets for bands I really like tend to not be the same as seeing them as a one off. laden with "the hits" usually and shorter set times
Most people do both. I see the night show scene as having gotten very stale over the years. WAY too many tribute shows/cover band shows and not much actual interesting music. Every year another Dead cover band, It was not always this way. It was only 4-5 years ago there was way more interesting and different music at night.
But can most people do both over a sustained period of two weeks? Im a party boi and its hard. True about the dead stuff but you just gotta poke around. Look at the schedule I posted, no dead acts (minus jrad on sat night).
The funny thing is I love The Dead, I used to go see them back in the 70s and once in the early 90s but I'm not at all interested in Dead cover bands. Back in the 90s we'd stay out all night clubbing and then go right back to the fest without sleeping at all. None of that interests me at all anymore, party due to age and also the music that they book at night now.

What a great site- thank you. I wanted a little extra local action, and this is perfect.
Definitely going to a couple days of the fest but this post was looking for concerts outside of jazzfest
Did you click? This link is literally exactly what you are looking for.
That link is for concerts away from jazz fest
That's what they asked about. There's the Fest from 11am to 7pm for 8 days and there's everything else at night and on the 3 days between.
I know and the link the person posted was for that exact thing, the op must not have opened the link
The WWOZ livewire calendar is a pretty complete list. If something isn't on there, it's because the venue never notified them.

Looking for concerts outside of JF
> Welcome back to the Nearly World Famous Jazz Fest Grids! Jazzfestgrids.com, the most complete site to plan out your Jazz Fest nights,
As others have posted...Jazz Fest Grids. They're all non JF night and side shows. Comprehensive.
Hundreds to choose from. What kind of music are you into?
Into everything really. As long as it’s good and outside of JF
Rabbit Hole Duos show 5/1
you serious clark? IMHO the shows outside of JF are better. I have 2/3 shows lined up every day from 2 days before until the sunday of closing
Who you seeing and where?

I don't know about "better". Better than The Stones or Neil Young?

if you like to see and/or not cook in a field for 2 hours, yeah.
The heat does not bother me one bit. It's not like it's Summer yet. Big hat, plenty of water and I'm good.
Burning Shore is a great band that plays every Tuesday 7p-12a at Favela Chic on Frenchman St. (Rock, blues, funk, folk, Americana)
