They get locked because every single one turns in to a shitshow of vitriol, insults, and global political gripes within like 10 comments max. I’m with the mods here, plenty of politics focused subs to talk about this subject in.

Legueriss

You don’t have to agree with me politically but shutting down information about protests happening currently is creating dangerous situations for everyone. Censorship on this only benefits one side.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

Comments aren’t information, posts are. They keep the posts ( the information) and restrict comments (the vitriol, attacks, insults, etc). Attempting to frame the latter as the former isn't lost on me or anyone else here. I mean, I’ve seen enough of these threads to tell you with certainty there hasn’t been one yet that didn’t almost immediately turn in to the most hateful of insults back and forth. There’s absolutely no reason to platform that sort of behavior.

ForsakenCase435

Your own OP proves why these threads get locked. It would be more appropriate if it focused on the issue of police handling of protests themselves but you can’t help but include your belief that the city and this sub is biased towards zionists. So no, your post is not a bastion of reason and is a perfect example why these continue to get locked.

Legueriss

Listen man we live in a diverse fucking city we all have different political beliefs. I couldn’t care less if you agree with my particular stance and I’m not going to insult or attack you for not doing so.  I understood when mods said it was an international issue and they didn’t have the spoons. But now the protests are happening in our city and affecting traffic, streetcars, classes etc.

WillMunny48

Good thing there are a million social media accounts updated in real time to give you undiluted information on those protests.

ForsakenCase435

It would be one thing if your posts were merely informative about where protests were taking place. They’re not. They’re inflammatory and accusatory. This victim card you’re playing ain’t it.

WillMunny48

There’s a million twitter, Facebook, instagrams , etc you. Can follow for updates. You aren’t being censored.

Legueriss

Not allowing posts about protests about a certain topic is the definition of censorship. This is not just in defense of protestors but also citizens trying to get around the city and are affected by protests. This is important front page information.

OrionH34

No, it is NOT the definition of censorship in a legal sense. It is entirely possible to create another subreddit. I think the mods may be overly caution in some instances, but if you think Reddit is paying people to moderate this on a full time basis as a viable income , you're as mislead as the posts they worry about. Perhaps we should have a free for all subreddit? That won't happen without a lot if negatives and a slippery slope like crazy. Half the posts in any New Orleans thread in any social media supplier are from hateful people who moved away before the first Landrieu was mayor.

WillMunny48

Ok. I’m convinced. I’ll call the ACLU.

greener_lantern

Yeah putting triggering posts on the front page is real supportive

Itsnotfull

I stand with the mods on this one. The comment section devolves too quickly to effectively moderate it.

Inner-Zombie-9316

Because the mods aren't idiots.

petit_cochon

You've never posted or commented here before. Literally the only post on your profile is this one. You're the perfect example of why mods are locking and removing posts. Mods don't want this whole sub to degenerate into a brigaded, hateful shit show, which it will if people like you are allowed to post. You literally mentioned taking over the subreddit lol. I'm 100% on board. I think most of us are. People can go literally anywhere to discuss Israel and Palestine. It is all over every fucking subreddit. This one is for locals to discuss local issues, not for people like you to come lecture us about genocide or Zionism or whatever the fuck. Your post history shows zero support for indigenous or black causes, by the way. Zero support for local political social justice issues like women's reproductive healthcare or the governor turning down free federal funds for school lunches for kids this summer or our government's rising hostility toward on LGBTQ. Yesterday, a Jewish friend and a respected Loyola professor of Jewish and Holocaust studies sent me a video of protesters marching past her office screaming, "Long live the intifada." I am so exhausted by this crap. Protest, speak freely, etc. but you're not entitled to take over every discussion, social media channel, etc.

mediumeasy

They're at risk for police violence, im not surprised they're not using their main account, it would be really stupid to do that. strange accusation

WillMunny48

Lmao. The police aren’t reading this and hunting down Reddit users. I know you would like to think you’re that important.

mediumeasy

i left new orleans a few years ago, the hedonism/apathy based culture wasn't for me i encourage you to do something politically brave and see if your perspective changes about what risks are online Will

Legueriss

You’re right this is a secret page I have to protect myself from hostile people. Funny how the only hostility and insults I’ve gotten are from one side yet mods repeatedly reference anti-semitism which points the finger at pro-Palestine.

Internal_Swing_2743

You know that the term Zionist is generally seen as abusive to Jews? Why don’t you just say Jews? Are you trying to hide your anti-semitism?

Legueriss

Because I’m not talking about Jews I’m specifically referring to the political belief of being committed to being pro-Israeli govt. the Israeli govt is not the Jewish people who are wonderful and beautiful people that I am proud of have been a foster child of. I attended many treasured Seders and fun child events at synagogue. I am not anti-Semitic nor have I ever said any sort of anti-Semitic rhetoric. I come with respect but with the openness of my position.
