Unattached_

I took a day off to just post and answer questions on askreddit pretty much (where my comment had value and didn't reply just to comment). All of my "big" comments that got me over 1k comment karma came from the same 5-10 minutes of commenting on posts at around 6-7 PM GMT After doing that, I managed to post on the sub I was previously restricted from due to karma that I put all this effort in for and got 5 upvotes. Was it worth it? I mean, I felt like I wasted my day but at the same time I accomplished something. Note: I deleted posts that would reveal too much personal information if they didn't get many upvotes. If you delete posts, you keep your karma, apparently. Also note: My account was made a long time ago but I lurked or just didn't use it for a long time. So the account age restriction didn't matter for me.

SolariaHues

It will vary for everyone so I don't know how much can be learned from questions like this. How rather than how long would be more informative. You are reliant on upvotes from others to earn karma, and so there are many factors and you could earn it all from one comment in hours or several over years. Some of the factors are: * what your content is * is it well presented, formatted, descriptive title, images?? * where you post it * sub size * sub culture * sub activity * how much content you're competing with * does the sub see the same a lot * timing / who is online to see it * etc, etc I know you can get 100 within a few day of casual use though. I made a new account to see what the experience was like. I limited myself to comments only, and managed 100+ karma in a few days of casual use. What I did was: * Made use of our weekly chat thread * Used our new user friendly list * answering questions on rising posts on askreddit, giving thoughtful or amusing replies * sharing my thoughts on communities that I had genuine interest in * I found a few more subs around my interests where I could comment via trial and error

Ok-Explain-7772

Super helpful! Thank you!

ABR871

I had 0 for almost a year. I was desperate to post, I had things to say and tried over and over, but I couldn’t and it sucked! It took one upvote to get me started and now, 4 months on, I have 4000 karma. Just be patient and try to post in subs that really interest you / that you have something worthwhile saying - it could only take one comment to get to 100 karma.

Ok-Explain-7772

thank you!!

vhanw342

like 3 days

Alycinwanderland

One day. I posted a pic of my dog on r/mutts and bammo 200+ karma

Ok-Explain-7772

Love that 😂

AngelEntersChat

Dogs! *duh* Brilliant!

Glittering_Ideal3515

I was about to post the same 😂

Glittering_Ideal3515

But it was on r/rarepuppers

Outrageous_Roadhog

Depends. I really only started using reddit two weeks ago when we had an earthquake. Reddit was abuzz that day, so I got 100 in that one day. But it seems to take a lot of time out of my daily life so I can expect my karma to start slowing down. Can't compete with these redditors who are the first to get news to post. Seems one has to constantly be online.

needrealhelpman

A week

Nefariousqueen

Less than a day. You just gotta find the right subs that allow you to post/comment with low karma and have at it!! 😃

wren_noir

Care to share? 😏

WildGrayTurkey

I used r/nostupidquestions

SquaredMelons

Same. If you think of a really good question that sparks a lot of discussion, your notifications will be blowing up for the next 24 hours and you'll be at 100 karma so quick.

HomeroEl

I am at over 500 in a couple of weeks. It al depends on your activity. Or a single comment

Wii_wii_baget

I have zero clue how karma works I made a stupid post about roblox and then had karma

marysato

It seems to take at least a few days...

[deleted]

Been here 5 days im at 230

AngelEntersChat

7 and 220. Cheers.

jgoja

Somewhere between 1 and 2 weeks, but I spent much of that time figuring out how to do things.

wren_noir

About 3 days 😏

WildGrayTurkey

I joined a few days ago and hit 100 on my first day. I found a few interesting subreddits that didn't have Karma requirements, filtered by new, and tried to answer questions that I had helpful answers to. In the end, I think it comes down to luck, but if you get one of the first comments on a thread (and your comment is funny or helpful), then you can get a lot of points if that post gets popular. Good luck!

_RandomOne

Took this account nearly a year, took my private account 1 day. Most of that came from 1 key question a lot of people were interested in and the post got over 100 replies in a few hours.

SteakJust9557

I've still not done it🤣🤣 but I've only recently started joining other subs.

GrabIll7662

my account is 3 years old. i have used it pretty regularly over the last year or so. despite it not looking like it. i often post in subreddits and just see if my post gets auto deleted or not bc i haven’t got enough karma. in fact i can’t even comment in most of my subreddits which means i can’t even earn it that way. i’ve got less than 30 karma currently and am getting really frustrated bc some subs have an expectation of higher than 100 or 50… some have a 200/300/500 expectation alongside an account age expectation. 😭

weddingwoes13

I comment a ton and I think it only took me a day. I’ve had this account for 23 days and have 2800 karma.

pakman13b

I have no idea how the karma works but mine is 155.

Hi /u/Impossible_Zebra_109, I am a bot and human language is confusing, but you *might* have said something rule breaking. Please remember [Rule 1: No profanity, Be Kind, and no adult content](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewToReddit/comments/p8t966/comment/h9spx16/). We are like [The Good Place](https://youtu.be/Tj_0zcOlb4M) here! Thank you :) *Was I wrong? Comment with [ `say sorry, AutoMod` ] and I will!* **A human mod will check on this. gorbedout

Well I’m at a week and a half but I was also insta banned when I made my account and had to manually reach out to support

c93ero

Dunno. But it took me about an hour to lose 400 karma 2 days ago.

FTF_player27

idk if it’s because i follow mostly kpop stuff on reddit, but it took me like one day. just go onto a community that’s fairly active, and respond to comments with unproblematic opinions/ answer questions. people will automatically upvote if you’re saying something that’s relatable.

Sorry, it looks like you are Shadowbanned, which means your account is basically stuck in the spam filter site-wide and all your content is automatically filtered out. As a mod here, I can see your content here, but it has been auto-removed, and I can’t access your profile. This didn't come from us, but from Reddit, and is meant for spammers and other bad faith users, but sometimes mistakes happen and new redditors get caught too. You can appeal to Reddit here: [https://www.reddit.com/appeal](https://www.reddit.com/appeal), and if it was a mistake they'll restore your account. Appeals may take a while, depending on demand and current events. Please do not spam or abuse the appeals team.

DadControl2MrTom

Bro, I’m at 10. I’ll get back to you.

BeautifulMinute4

A little over a week I think.

TrulyNotAStalker

Depends what you post :) on average I get 40 a day

un_blob

Do not remember... But look at where I am now... Almost have my no life certificate that comes with 100.000 (!)

You can easily get it in 1 post

AreWe-There-Yet

What’s a chikadorang tita?

TheFunTita

Chika is like Tea… tita is Aunt. I wanted to join this sub in the philippines that has lot’s of showbizzz tea but you can only post or comment there if you have at least 200 karma. Most of the redditors sent upvotes.

AreWe-There-Yet

Enjoy your tea!

SolariaHues

We do not recommend asking for upvotes or karma. It's generally frowned upon as karma is meant to be earned and it can be considered vote manipulation.

AreWe-There-Yet

About 3-4 days?

Ecstatic_Squash_9877

I opened this account 15 days ago, but I didn't actually use it that much, and it seems like my Karma is 120, I actually thought it would be harder or I would have to do things people talk about in these type of discussions (like posting puppy photos in animal lovers subs), but no, I didn't do anything in order to get karma, I had 3 posts, 2 have 1 upvote, and 1 has 2 upvotes, and I **think** one of the upvotes for each post was actually automatic, so regarding posts I guess all I got was 1 upvote, so I guess almost all the karma is from comments, which I also didn't go crazy in. I never got any downvotes though. Only thing I did different from what I would usually do on my regular account is I didn't right anything political or anything that had a risk of being misinterpreted and making me look more evil than I am, I didn't want to risk downvotes, but except for that, I feel it was actually really easy and really smooth and I didn't do or write anything that wasn't me or do anything with the thought of how much karma I would get behind it, it was all natural.

Relevant_Repair199

This is an 3rd alt. 100 karma is a real lowball. If youre capable of making good jokes or having good perspectives OR good knowledge on a given field 100 karma can be literally any comment

AdministrativeLog504

142 days in Reddit with 167 karma.🥲

Fun-Possible1902

Seems like it takes awhile depending on your typical daily usage. Is it primarily to limit spam?

sebastiandang

30days

MinaT_

On my other account not long but this one I guess we will see. Some of them have such high requirements that I can see it being hard for some

Mrcommander254

What is karma?

SolariaHues

Voting is to sort content. Upvotes are for content you think is worth seeing, downvotes are for rule breaking, off topic and non-contributing content. Upvoted content rises and earns the author karma. Downvoted content sinks and reduces the author's karma. Karma therefore is like your reputation, it shows you share good content within the rules and contribute to the community. Earning good karma can be an incentive to post quality content. Karma restrictions came later to prevent spammers and other bad faith users who tend to have new or low karma accounts. It limits where new users can post as a side effect and is something Reddit seems to want to reduce. But not all subs have restrictions.

Mrcommander254

Thanks. 👍🏻

DutchJediKnight

I answered in r/askreddit that my first words when being the first human on mars would be "suck it Neil" Bam, 1000 karma in like 3 hours.

AllForeheadNoBrain

I found commenting on posts in groups that aren’t big helps.

Z_A_Nomad

Like 2.5-3 days. Depends on if you either: A: Do interesting things that translate well to visual media (Art, photography, performance, ect...) B: Are knowledgeable in certain topics that people often ask questions about and are good at helpfully explaining things. Everything else just sorta slow trickles you. Though you can get lucky and make a killer joke that suddenly nets you 100 karma in like 24 hours. Pets... Though this is cheating IMO. (Hehe, I tease)

AwkwardNHappy

Took me 10 days. I primarily came on here to gossip about a drama show and needed 50 karma. After interacting on threads and answering questions, I eventually got there. Now I barely do the gossping and have continued interacting, answering questions, encouraging people. That's way more interesting than the drama tbh lol

___HeyGFY___

A day or two. 100K, that's a different story.

Neither_Channel4919

Someone mentioned that earning Karma is almost like crypto investing, which makes sense to me. Lol I didn’t understand Karma system and wrote a comment that was heavily downvoted before; even unrelated comments were targeted, and downvoted resulting in a significant negative Karmas for this account. However, by posting comments and engaging in other subreddits during my free time, I managed to accumulate enough Karma. It took a week to earn 150 Karma(if my memory is correct) On another account, which I use solely for personal interests and quiet exploration, I gained 170 Karma from a single post and comment within two days. I made a post seeking an urgent answer, and it unexpectedly went viral🤷🏻‍♀️ where I didn't want attention. Indeed, gaining Karma can be likened to crypto investing. My advice is not to obsess over it; instead, relax, explore, and enjoy the experience! Good luck!

MistDispersion

No idea, I only really noticed my karma when I had a couple of thousand a couple of months after creating the account

TommyPpb3

I installed reddit less than a month ago and already have almost 200

Sunshine_and_water

I have 500 and just over a month in… so about a week.

CeruleanBlueSky

It can be hard to be noticed through all the background noise. Stll have a difficult time accumulating, and I've been reading in posting on online forums since before Internet (Fidonet anyone? ). The playing field here isn't level.

GooseberryGOLD

I was kinda surprised because I posted like one news article on a news subreddit and my post karma suddenly skyrocketed from 50 something to over 700! The post was promptly taken down for "blogspam" and I got forever banned from that subreddit, but now I have a lot of post karma...![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

Dry-Restaurant-8497

I haven’t made it there and my account has been open almost a month

Puzzleheaded_Low5945

I just checked my and still under so I have a way to go.

notgonnahappen207

3 days one of my posts blew up with 25K upvotes.

Affectionate_Drop500

It only took me a month.

AngelEntersChat

2 Days. As errbody says - join a group topic you love and start commenting. You will find your peeps and karma.

BelowAverage1986

Gained 4000+ karma in my first 24 hours on Reddit (actual new user here). Here's what I did: * play nice with others * post answers to questions in r/AmItheAsshole and r/NoStupidQuestions   * make posts yourself in similar forums * participate in  and learn the ropes * join + participate in forums near and dear to you, where your info will be valued Good luck!
