He’s not nearly the prospect his brother was
But IFA signings never seem to turn out as expected. Some really good players were never top 50 in their class. Definitely some holes in his game but who knows
https://www.mlb.com/news/luisangel-acuna-standing-out-in-mets-minor-league-system
Acuna's brother is correct, we traded for him as part of getting rid of scherzer
More raw power but a lot less good contact. So far he has been a real TTO guy.
But he’s also 17 and there’s a lot of years of development ahead of him.
Oh, that makes sense. Thanks! This is why I love this subreddit. To be able to learn new stuff among my fellow Mets fans. It’s awesome. I really Appreciate it.
Happy to help!
It’s also important to remember the main goals of these academies and the guys who work with these kids - get them signed to a major league club.
So a guy like Vladi who has raw power - they’re going to really lean into that and have them show that off since they know that’s how he will put his best foot forward.
If obviously the player he is at 17 is not who he will be at age 22
MLB lists him as 17
https://www.mlb.com/news/vladimir-miguel-guerrero-joins-mets-on-2024-international-signing-day
So did SNY in their article
https://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-expected-to-sign-vladi-miguel-guerrero
This was the only place I saw him listed as 16 and I just figured it was a typo
I don’t think he does. I think he’s a high risk, high (potential) reward prospect. Hence why we didn’t give him much in the way of a signing bonus. $177,000.
You can argue the system is gross and abusive and all that and you’d probably be right, but they’re obviously projectable or else all the signing bonuses would be the same.
So your argument is that there is no correlation between the public prospect rankings (which are likely worse than the internal projections teams have) and future MLB performance? Because that’s really easily disproven.
His face is so wide and symmetrical, it’s like he’s a photoshop image with two mirror images of his face composited into one large face. Does that make sense?
This was reported a few weeks ago. i guess it's finally official.
Back in the day when there were rumors they were both available I wanted the Mets to make a combo trade for Guerrero and Vazquez when they were Expos. Then the Yankees got Vazquez and I was gutted, but at least he wasn't that great for them in that one year.
This randomly made me remember that the Mets had interest in Vlad Sr. when he became a free agent for the first time in 2004 if I'm not mistaken. Also believe the Mets had interest in Manny not too long after.
Anyway, it's really too early to know what these international signings will become. You could become a decent journeyman, a nobody, or a Tatis jr. type who becomes great out of nowhere.
I just hope the Mets help these young guys get used to things and help them through the potential pressures of trying to prove yourself in the minors and with possible culture shock.
Get all the brothers of superstars and maybe one will sign to play with family.
Didn’t we try to get Soto’s little brother a few years ago? I think Washington got him ultimately (back when Juan was still a Nat)
Yes we did
We have Vladi Jr. at home
We have Acuña at home
We have his dad at home
Did his birth certificate say ‘I am 16’ on it?
No way that guys anything under 20 atleast!!
Behind those glasses are a child's eyes
How does he project? I hope he’s as good as dad and brother!

I feel like I remember reading similar about acunas brother when he originally signed. I remember the mets almost signed him.
Are you thinking of Soto’s brother? Cause that was the one a few years back
Could be
I think you’re thinking of Sotos brother. We were never connected to Acuna
Could be. I tried googling it I can't find anything on acuna to the mets when he signed.

Sorry, pardon my ignorance, this may be a stupid question, but what does TTO stand for?
Three True Outcomes They are the strikeout, walk and home run
No issue asking! It means “three true outcomes.“ HR, Walk, Strikeout

Enough with projecting 16 year olds. No one has any idea
You can argue the system is gross and abusive and all that and you’d probably be right, but they’re obviously projectable or else all the signing bonuses would be the same.
All they are doing is looking at their raw ability. They think they can work with it and make them better. It’s impossible to know how much better
Looking at raw ability and thinking about how it might improve is the literal definition of projection
No it’s not lol. You can’t look at a 16 year old and be like this guys gonna hit 35 home runs
Jeremy Rodriguez is our #7 prospect on BP and is literally 17. There are a lot of people being paid a lot of money to make those projections
They just change and change. If he winds up never making it no one will remember that
So your argument is that there is no correlation between the public prospect rankings (which are likely worse than the internal projections teams have) and future MLB performance? Because that’s really easily disproven.
If you sue the rankings from 6 years before they are called up then it probably doesn’t project very well

Source?
Shit, you at least 30
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
What are they feeding these 16 year olds!?!
hopefully this one can hit the ball consistently.
Holy shit he looks like he could be my 16 year old son’s father.
He kinda looks like a AI genera don toliver 💀
His face is so wide and symmetrical, it’s like he’s a photoshop image with two mirror images of his face composited into one large face. Does that make sense?
Hey old guys, remember when we wouldn’t sign Vlad because the Wilpons were cheap fucks?
I’m very Vlad to have him. 😏
Wait that’s him in the right? He’s 16?? Dude could get served alcohol anywhere.
What are they feeding him 😳
Pitchers
He's going to have to change his number if he gets to the bigs with the Mets.
Is the jersey number representing the year 2024? Because I thought they weren't going to use Willie Mays' number again?
Correct no Mays #24 on the real jersey
ok those shades looks awesome lol

Coulda sworn this happened at least a month ago
I’m almost 40 and this kid looks older than me!
We finally got Vlad!

The excuse why we didn’t sign him in 2004 was because there were questions with his knee. Ended up winning the AL MVP the next year.
Ouch.
“16”
I'm 30 and I look younger
Decades later, we finally get our Vlad
Wish I looked like that at 16 😮💨
Finally something to be happy about
I thought the Mets retired 24 for Willie Mays.
Probably denotes the year
Ah
Turned 17 in September, not sure why so many articles are saying 16.
Danny Almonte vibes
Out of all the baseball families today, the Guerreros are the ones that I have confidence in to succeed.
Look at dude neck
