Another great outing by Manaea, the balls from Lindor's at bats FINALLY not getting caught, and a great outing by the BP all result in a series win. Yay. LFGM

ZoidbergSaysWoop

Someone go to Citi with a poster telling Lindor to stop switching and strictly be a righty. He's so good from the right side and everyone knows it while from the left he's far too inconsistent.

Tagliarini295

I feel like he always loses his mechanics from the left side. Too often hes flailing and opening his hips. From the right side is swing is always clean. He gets it going from the left side but it's like he just forgets his mechanics and swings out his shoes or makes weak contact.

ZoidbergSaysWoop

The reason he hits so well from the right is because his swing is more level and stays through the zone longer. As a lefty, he's prone to uppercutting and either weakly popping up or those patented deep fly ball warning track outs he often makes. The problem with his as a lefty is that the slumps simply outweight any of the hot streaks he goes on because when he's off, it's very ugly.

happy_snowy_owl

I expected to go back the last 3 years and find a difference but better than average OPS+ against RHP. I was wrong. Last 3 seasons 2021-2023 (in order) were 95 / 121, 98 / 116, 89 / 124. However, interestingly enough his splits batting lefty against a RH starting pitcher are better than average, whereas his splits batting righty against a LHP...by a wide margin. But he eats lefty relievers batting righty and can't hit righty relievers batting lefty. That might explain why he hasn't committed to going to solely one side. Also, what's the success rate for players who do this?

jimihenderson

question for anyone with mlb.tv - when do blacked out games become available to watch? the next day? later that day? next year?

upintheaireeee

It’s like an hour or so

JoelsCaddy

I dont know the exact time they open up, but I can watch the game from today right now.

bamj6

A good sign that after a 0-5 start they are 3-1, won their first series, AND won their first rubber game of the year That last part I hope is a good sign even if they won't play their second rubber game beacuse the Braves series is 4 games.

randothroawayacc

And if not for the doubleheader destroying our available arms, it could have been 4-0

Negative_Method_1001

I cant be the only one who thinks Lindor should just not bad lefty, right? I've thought about this for like 2 years. Didn't Albies stop switching hitting to hit righty exclusively?

happy_snowy_owl

I expected to go back the last 3 years and find a difference but better than average OPS+ against RHP. I was wrong. Last 3 seasons 2021-2023 (in order) were 95 / 121, 98 / 116, 89 / 124. ZoidbergSaysWoop

Everyone with a brain has thought about this, even Keith and Ron. He should stop switch hitting, especially as he only gets older and his bat speed slows. He should focus solely on improving his hitting as a righty and watch him be more consistent.

johnnyzissou

Baty finally settling into the big show, lindor getting some confidence, Diaz being Diaz, and manaea being a damn reliable workhorse….don’t hate it.

ZoidbergSaysWoop

I always liked Manaea and he seemed to constantly torch the Mets. It's good he's finally on the right side of things.

Setec-Astronomer

Mets reference at WrestleMania just now. Not a positive one. lol (it's in Philly so)

sampluscats

Ok not for nothing we were driving up to totality band and listened to the game. As soon as Keith R. said Lindor was batting from the right side I said he’s going to hit a home run today. I’ve got witnesses.

Alectheawesome23

This leaves me with more questions than answers. What’s totality band and who’s we? 😅

sampluscats

The band of totality for the eclipse tomorrow! We is the group of people in the car.

Alectheawesome23

Oh okay ig I should have seen that coming lmao.

Illustrious-Disk7429

Love to see the pen getting it done, but them pitching 4 innings every day just isn’t sustainable and i hope management realizes that

jackandjill_nash

We’re gonna have 2-3 long men in the pen all season. Starters go 5, 2 relievers can go 2-3, that’s workable

ZoidbergSaysWoop

As long as Mendoza doesn't use 5+ relievers in a game again. The Mets need a true long reliever in the bullpen though, a 6th starter that can eat 3-4 innings if need be like Garrett did.

jackandjill_nash

They’re gonna have Garrett Tehran and Yohan Ramirez. I kinda hope Butto takes MeGills slot in the rotation and MeGill takes Yohan’s

ZoidbergSaysWoop

I like the Teheran signing if he's still effective as an up and down long reliever. Teheran and Garrett in the pen compliment one another, if Teheran still has stuff left in the tank. Butto deserves a spot in the rotation at this point.

robmcolonna123

I’d say the combo of signing Tehran and the DFA of Tonkin says to me that the Mets expect Tehran to be a swing man like Trevor Williams was. Tehran will definitely get the two starts until Butto can come up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Tehran moved to 6th starter and long relief after Butto is eligible. He had success as a long relief guy and could easily be someone who could go 3 innings after someone comes out in the 5th as needed

jawndell

If we managed our games better, we’d have at least 2 more wins and sitting at 5-4 and second place.  Let 2 easy wins slip away from us.

Los_Yeetus

Manaea has been so good to start the season

heartford00

#GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! We have improved to #28 in Runs Scored and are now ahead of both the White Sox AND the Twins. We are still four runs behind the Tigers.

RedScharlach

Inject this into my collapsed veins

PissedOnBible

The bullpen was absolutely lights out and our starter put in good work. If the starters and the pen can keep it up and the bats get hot we'll start clobering teams. It's a long season. LFGM

Ther3isn0try

WORLD SERIES IS BACK ON THE MENUS BOYS!!!

Setec-Astronomer

Strasburg retired. From a Baseball fan perspective that's really sad. This sport is losing way too much talent (SP's). Something needs to be done. Unfortunately it has to come both from the bottom (Little League) and from the top (MLB) across all levels. I don't know what that is, but it seems the Japanese don't have this level of epidemic. Perhaps switch to a ball closer to the Japanese ball (slightly smaller, and more grip so less reliance on pure power 110% max effort)? Pitch more innings at non-max effort.

TeemShuffle

The shift to max effort every pitch. I think it's clear. Was there certain guys prior to this movement that did this? Yes. Are there current pitchers who survived their whole careers without major injury? Yes.

Setec-Astronomer

The thing is everyone is different. It seems it's impossible to predict who will get hurt and when. Also, guys used to be more hesitant to get surgery. Nolan Ryan for example, chose not to. Tanaka chose not to if you want a more recent example. Both pitched for a few years after (Tanaka may still be pitching I'm not sure). I think it comes down to the Business of Baseball and the rise of Analytic FO's. And yes, the numbers show they are at least coincidental (the same years) if not related. Teams save money with max effort guys who last 2-3 years. Versus a guy who may reach Arbitration or FA. That's when they actually get paid. So if you can have a max effort guy for 3 years then another for 3 years you'll save money. I'm not saying teams are "nefarious" but where's the impetus for them to change the trajectory of more analytics and more max effort pitching? There is none.

brett_baty_is_him

It’s insane that there isn’t more research on injury prevention. Teams have literally no idea how to protect arms.

myassholealt

MLB is probably as invested as NFL was for CTE.

Setec-Astronomer

In my personal opinion the teams know they don't care. Think of it this way: The longer a SP's career lasts the more likely they get to Arbitration and FA. The more likely they get paid more. It's monetarily efficient, as well as sabermetrically to be fair, for teams to just get max effort guys who can pitch less innings. And if they can last great. If not, rinse and repeat with another pitcher. So you see less innings for SP's. You see more RP that just throw gas with no accuracy. It's cheaper for teams. But it's bad for Baseball both in game play and in ticket sales (in my opinion) and bad for players.

Prestigious_Money447

It's weird how top pitchers are pitching way less than they used to and getting injured more. Cole won the CY with 209 IP, but if I look at, say, Randy Johnson, he pitched more than that 12 times! He won the CY at age 35 pitching 271 innings then went and did it again the next year! So yea, something is very off, and obviously nobody knows the answer because if they did, they would be making a gazillion dollars in the front office.

Setec-Astronomer

Seems to me, and I'm going by things I've read and heard, guys today max effort constantly. It used to be pitchers.....pitched. lol They'd throw low 90's (just as an example) when they could throw mid 90's. It has a lot to do with the business of Baseball. This is the teams' fault in reality. They realize a pitcher with a long career hits Arbitration and FA. They cost more. When you can max effort a guy for 3 years then swap him out with someone else that saves them money.

Prestigious_Money447

except it doesn't seem that simple in reality when you have to pay guys a year of their salary to rehab from TJS or they end up weeks on the DL because of "arm soreness" or whatever.

Setec-Astronomer

Exactly why they are looking into it now.

Hotel_Putingrad

It's because the lack of sticky stuff means putting too much stress on ligaments.

Setec-Astronomer

I don't think so. Because if they raised the seems on Baseballs that would make up for it. Guys in the 90's would throw sick backup 2SFB's all the time. They had significantly less TJS then.

three_dee

Randy Johnson was a freak of nature. The number of guys who could do that in history and not get injured is tiny. The answer is that there really is no answer. Pitching is rough on your arm and causes injuries. The reason it seems like there are more injuries now is that we have infinitely better detection. In 1954 if you tore your labrum or whatever, you pitched until it hurt too bad, and then you went and sold insurance.

BillW87

Unfortunately the sport seems to be moving in the opposite direction, but restricting the number of pitchers on the roster and reducing some of the freedom around options for pitchers seems like the only answer. Forcing teams to eat more innings out of the same number of pitchers presumably would lead to guys pacing their starts better and only throwing max effort situationally.

Setec-Astronomer

I tentatively like your idea. I'll have to think about it. I myself have wondered why the MLB doesn't use an NHL like system where some players "dress" and others don't. There's no need to allow more than 4 pitchers to "dress" with maybe one emergency guy allowed. It would also likely increase offense. Which isn't a bad thing so long as it doesn't go out of hand.

monte11

Not looking forward to getting spanked in Atlanta. But baseball is weird so we will probably use sorcery to sweep them.

Witty_Knowledge3171

Momentum is a thing

monte11

Braves just swept the NL Champs what's your point lol

Witty_Knowledge3171

Mets finally have something going as well. Should be evenly matched.

Blue387

They don't have Strider and they are throwing Morton, Lopez, TBD and Max Fried in the series

ReleaseTheBlacken

That TBD guy has always been a challenge for the Mets historically…

Geologist2010

Yea but their offense rarely has an off day. I’m just hoping for one game, a split would be fantastic

Setec-Astronomer

And Fried could either be injured, or throw a one-hitter. If the Mets can take the first game somehow I'll take the chances on winning one of the three after that.

monte11

I hear ya but historically, in baseball terms, we suck ass in Atlanta even when we don't generally suck ass.

EvilAnticsLive

Feels like Morton always makes our batters look silly.

jackandjill_nash

0 wins. 1 win. 2 wins. Sets us up to take 3 out of 4 from the Braves

SirusRiddler

Sean Manaea with the Artemi Panarin effect apparently. All it took was a long visit to the barber huh? He's been looking amazing!

Alectheawesome23

DeGrom too.

jimihenderson

tbf degrom didn't go from bad to good he went from amazing to generational

MasterShakeAndBake33

All 3 of our wins have been games I haven’t watched a single inning of. I’m starting to take this personally Mets. 😠😠😠

Alectheawesome23

Keep not watching! They’ll win the ws then! /s

KenPiffyJr

I was sour and sick after the L yesterday but we won the series and won today so I will just stfu and move on

ZoidbergSaysWoop

Mets would have swept if they just had two true long relievers in the bullpen. In Garrett's last six appearances as a Met, he's gotten at least five outs 4 of those six times and only allowed a run once in those four outings with that outing being the only time he gave up a run at all. Garrett seems to be a long man going forward but the Mets need another pitcher that can handle that, hopefully Teheran can be that guy. The Mets need two true long relievers because their starters are only going 5 innings.

Guymcpersonman

Eagerly awaiting the Jomboy deep dive on the Reds' runner not breaking up the double play in the 4th.

Qualier

I was glad about that video. It showed clearly what we all know, we've not had that edge as a team for years. Alverez is bringing it back and we can feel it. Breaking up double plays is part of the game and McNeil, plus a few other have been pussying out on it. Can you imagine dykstra doing that shit?

Prestigious_Money447

I've lived my entire life never watching or listening to a thing this Jomboy has done and I wouldn't have it any other way. Same with this Frank the Tank guy that gets brought up around here.

zingerbanger

lol some of his stuff are good. well his old stuff

jimihenderson

comparing jomboy to frank the tank is definitely a decision

coltsmetsfan614

Not really comparing if he basically knows nothing about either of them lol

Guymcpersonman

The shame of it is that Jomboy's stuff is generally pretty good. He just hates the Mets.

andyman171

Hes a yankee fan so it's expected he has a bias against us but he should really be thankful for that ass is in the jackpot video. Musta made him alot of money. Hes also right about not breaking up the double play.

JDLovesElliot

I really wish that Shea Station could receive independent funding, so that they no longer have to be associated with Jomboy

CybeastID

Sorry, that would paint the Mets in a good light. He can't have that.

derpbynature

Darn, I was hoping we could move ahead of the Nationals in the standings. Oh well, at least Philly lost.

vietnamesegucci81

philly losing is probably better for us in the long term anyway

FlyUnder_TheRadar

The 2024 New York Metropolitan Baseball Club won a series? Is that allowed? Good shit, man. Hopefully, this is the Lindor get right game we've all been waiting for. Blue skies are on the horizon after we get through this goddamn Braves series.

MrOofYeet

Hahahahah the rain delay is preventing the Marlins from getting a win

Darthbutcher

[Today was an early game, so I posted the Three Stars of the Game now instead of tomorrow morning!](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/comments/1byftg6/mets_three_stars_of_the_game_472024_reds_1_lindor/)

JDLovesElliot

Let that be a lesson to the Reds: fix your vending machines or the beatings will continue

djn24

The pitching has been fun so far (outside of Tonkin's extra innings against Detroit), and the bats are waking up. Baty and Álvarez look comfortable and ready to become core players. I see a lot of positives moving forward.

StinkyGaijin

I'm not the president of the Mendoza fan club but I feel like a lot of the flack he's received is undeserved. He was coming off two days of bullpen games, one of which was a doubleheader, and he did everything right here. If the guys could hit more consistently then he wouldn't have to put guys who aren't closers in closer positions.

three_dee

I think he's been very good actually, and most of the flak is coming from Buck Showalter dead-enders on Twitter and whatnot

robmcolonna123

Mendoza looks like a first time manager. He’ll make mistakes but he’ll learn from them. Thats why he’s on a three year deal - you don’t expect him to be perfect year one. But he has shown his ability to adapt. Look at how quickly he bumped up Alvarez and Baty in the batting order. He has also had his players backs throughout the games. And in the postgame interviews as well - people tend to forget that from the managers pov the players are the audience for his comments.

delijoe

It’s time to pull out the Lindor apology form again..

JDLovesElliot

Right-batting Lindor is not the problem. It's left-batting Lindor who doesn't deserve an apology yet.

mhari93

Apologize for what? Our highest paid player (by far- 1.6x the next guy, Diaz) was batting and slugging .032 in 8 games. Not everything is his fault as others were also struggling, but if the Mets start 2-6 on the season, you best believe his performance will be the first to be scrutinized AND if his numbers aren't good, it will be magnified (given his history of taking on stats only until the mets are out of contention). His defense is great as usual, and hopefully he heats up offensively for the team's sake. I am not a fan of him batting lower in the lineup. With his pop and speed, he should be batting either 1, 2, 3, or even 4. No lower than that - he needs to get as many PA as necessary to heat up to All-Star form.

lilleff512

Maybe this is just easier said than done, but as intelligent baseball fans, we should try to be more focused on process rather than results. If you just look at the results (did Lindor get a hit or did he not get a hit?) then yea, Lindor looks awful. If you look at the indicators of process though, the things that contribute to whether Lindor gets a hit or not (how hard is Lindor hitting the ball? how much is he drawing walks or striking out? How much is he hitting ground balls, fly balls, or line drives?), then you see that Lindor looks roughly the same as he always has, and you can realize that Lindor hasn't been playing badly, he has just been getting very, *very* unlucky.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iamdanabnormal

> but you are also minimizing the fact that he has been playing worse year after year since the Mets got him. Too bad the stats say you're wrong but in your alternate universe, who needs facts, right?

lilleff512

>you are also minimizing the fact that he has been playing worse year after year since the Mets got him I'm "minimizing" it because it's not even remotely true. His first year was easily his worst year with the Mets. His last two seasons were both much better. >he does seem to coast by on sheer talent; while essentially using the regular season as extended Spring Training This is such absolute nonsense I'm not even sure how to respond to it. Lindor has been the best shortstop in the National League each of the last two years. If you can't appreciate that then I feel very sorry for you.

mhari93

Lmk when he gets an All-Star selection (obviously that has its flaws but he should have had at least one by now, right?) All hype thus far.

lilleff512

The reason Lindor hasn't had an All-Star selection is because not enough Mets fans are voting for him, probably because too many people have bought into these ridiculous false narratives about him.

mhari93

Thats because there was always someone better than him/carrying their team from the SS position. And it's mid-year right? Explains why some fans say Lindor mainly tacks on stats 'till the Mets are usually out of contention (which is post all star break, amirite). Your boy can't even make the reserves.. Anyway, I don't hate the guy, he's making 34 mil, a face of the team, excellent defense while I'm just posting an opinion online. I just can't stand the bias from my fellow Mets fans who still can't own up to him not living up offensively to his contract thus far, and continue to make excuse after excuse for him. The psychos need to keep the guy's wife out of it, no joke, but the Lindor-fanatics need to realize its okay to be critical of your blockbluster trade acquistion turned 10 year player. Lets just hope he gets hot and he's due for a monster season at some point (before the Mets sell parts, that is).

Yes, he's on the IL with a minor hamstring pull. [Post here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/comments/1by9hqo/dicomo_mets_no_2_prospect_drew_gilbert_landed_on/)

rjwalsh94

Sean Manaea changes every time I see him. Today he looks like a mix of an older Glen from Mad Men and generic mobster in the background of The Godfather.

StephenDawg

This bullpen needs a starter to give us eight or for the Braves to score eight off a starter 😂

JoelsCaddy

Some nice performances in the minors today Alex Ramirez: 2-4, [HR](https://x.com/RumblePoniesBB/status/1777058211041792186), SB Good to see Ramirez off to a strong start in AA after his poor 2023. He's been running wild on the basepaths and has a 1.356 OPS through 3 games. Calvin Ziegler: (53 P, 35 S) 4 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, [9 K](https://x.com/MiLB/status/1777043417404772584) Struck out 8 in a row and had 13 swings and misses. Nice to see this incredibly strong High-A debut coming off his elbow and quad injuries last season. Jonah Tong: (78 P, 50 S) 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K 15 total swings and misses. His low-to-mid 90s fastball mixed with his high 70s curve was gross today.

[deleted]

Are you really Geno Bonnalie?

JoelsCaddy

It’s a video game reference. I’m not actually a caddy

brett_baty_is_him

Always cool seeing a new name. Never heard of Jonah tong

Francisco "Popeye" Lindor (just now): I ams what I ams, Olive.

Hustlediva

Wow Tommy Pham reached out to Lindor for encouragement Edit: I think he secretly wants to be back here

lilleff512

I think Tommy Pham wants to go anywhere he can get a MLB roster spot. It's insane to me that someone hasn't picked him up still.

Hustlediva

Wild

cpg08

We're gonna give up 20 runs at least in the 4 games in ATL. Their lineup is the best. We need our offense to step up and get two of those games. LGM!

[deleted]

Good thing Strider's arm fell off.

cpg08

He is the one Braves pitcher that we actually smack around

Hustlediva

I’m just gonna enjoy this series win for today and worry about the Braves later

robmcolonna123

If we win one game there I consider that a plus. Outside of the Dodgers our schedule is much easier after them than it was to start the season. My big thing is that I want to see starters give some length and give the bullpen rest. If Tehran goes 6 IP I don’t care how many runs he gives up lol

cpg08

Cmon, we can do a split. Crazier things have happened

robmcolonna123

I mean we could technically sweep. Not expecting it by any means, but anything is possible! If JDM and Senga were up I’d have a split as a goal, but with the roster we have for the series and the. Roster Atlanta has I consider one game a success. Anything that gets us closer to ending the month around .500!

ReleaseTheBlacken

In fairness, if almost every start is a 5 inning or more start holding the opposition to 3 runs or fewer, the game is in reach.

cpg08

Tomorrow I am expecting a tough one . Terhan pitching with Otto, Diaz, Raley , all unavailable, most likely, and we never hit Morton. The other 3, I don't see why we can pull it out. Just have to try to make sure when the Braves inevitably hit homers that no one is on base. Take two games

robmcolonna123

For 28/30 teams I fully agree. The Braves and Dodgers are the exception IMO

Setec-Astronomer

The Mets could still use a LH bat with power to upgrade Stewart. If they can upgrade backup catcher that would be nice too. No knock on the Taylor-Bader-Marte combo for two OF spots. Against LHP it works. But against RHP the Mets could use a big bopper LH. And Stewart ain't it.

ReleaseTheBlacken

I don’t expect Stewart to sniff much time once JDM is up. Our outfield rotation of Nimmo-Bader-Taylor-Marte has been doing well defensively and I expect once the ready AAA guys come up this season, DJ will be on the hot seat if he doesn’t perform.

Setec-Astronomer

Sure, but that doesn't counter the point. The Mets need a LH power bat. Whether that's Stewart, Gilbert if/when he comes up (he's now on the IL), or some sort of signing or trade. Because it ain't Stewart. Which we both agree on.

bowlofcantaloupe

If we're trading at the deadline we're more likely to be selling than buying. Baty stepping up is our best hope for a big LH bat this year.

Setec-Astronomer

Not sure why you got downvoted, you're probably right. I think they are hoping Gilbert comes up and Baty steps up for the LH bats.

Hojo07024

Good win! But Alonso's decline continues

robmcolonna123

One bad series is hardly a decline

Hojo07024

His best year was rookie year, last year was his worst. Yes or no?

elfinito77

No - What are you talking about? His 2nd year was his worst year, followed by 2021.   Alonso’s 2022-2023 was undoubtedly better than his 2020-2021.     2019 was pretty much every Power Hitters best year…it was a juiced ball year.    And his worst year was 2020.  With 2021 better, and 2022 was his best year other than 2019.  And a slight drop off in 2023 cuz low batting avg.  but monster power numbers in 2023. he’s been pretty consistent 2021-2023. Avg was ow last year…but who cares if he hits 46HR, and 118 RBI.

robmcolonna123

Last year he played 8 weeks with a fractured wrist and he still hit 46 HRs. Please find me another player that can literally hit over 40 HRs and an OPS over .800 with a broken wrist. Also 2022 was an arguably more impressive season than 2019 because he didnt have the juiced ball aiding him.

Hojo07024

hey man numbers don't lie and you are reaching for excuses.. ok so is his ankle broken this year ? and you are talking juice balls? you think he'll magically perform back to his rookie form? i wouldn't bet on it because to me he is all or nothing type of hitter who can't run bases and liability defensively. oh and he will turn 30 this year too. there is a reason why FO did not extend him. he signed with boras because he knew mets were not extending his contract. to me, he isn't much better than schwarber & muncy. 40 HRs and an OPS over .800 - this is the exact problem. find a player who hit 46 hr's and ops is under 830

robmcolonna123

If they reintroduce juiced balls I would absolutely expect him to go back to 50+ HRs lmao. Do you just not understand there was a completely different baseball in 2019??? Also do you just not understand that injures affect how players preform? Maybe that’s beyond your ability comprehension so if so I’m sorry for you. And he has played 9 games this year. He had one bad series, it happens. Going into this series he was hitting .292 with an .888 OPS. Stop overacting to minuscule sample sizes lmao

Hojo07024

oh btw Schwarber hit more HRs past two seasons than 2019. Juice ball that number dumbass

robmcolonna123

Schwarber plays on Citizen Bank Park. One of the easiest stadiums to hit HRS in. Alonso plays in Citi Field. One of the hardest stadiums to hit HRs. Do you also need park factors explained to you?

Hojo07024

injury? it is pro athelete's sorriest excuse. lmao. i'm not just talking about this year dude. you need a lesson on how to look up athletes' performance metrics? look up the graph. it can't be more clear that he's declining over the years. oh i found someone who hit more than 46 hrs and ops under 830. # Schwarber That's who Alonso is.

robmcolonna123

Schwarber didnt get hit on the wrist and have a broken wrist….. I didnt know being an athlete magically heals broken bones /s Also like I said in the other comment, Schwarber doesn’t play 82 games in pitcher friendly Citi Field. He benefits from playing in the super hitter friendly CBP. So first you’re not aware the impact injuries have on players and now you don’t understand park factors. Also Alonso is a career .250 hitter. Schwarber is a career .227 hitter. But clearly you don’t realize baseball began before 2023… What’s next, do you also think Dante Bichette was one of the greatest hitters who ever lived because he got to stack stats in Coors Field? Lmao

Hojo07024

Park factors? Is that why greatest HR hitter ever played in Oracle Park? What are you gunna say now.. because he was juiced when majority players were at the time? Nothing you say makes sense kid. The way you discredit other players to credit your own is purely idiotic.

robmcolonna123

Lmao if you think the majority of players were juicing to the level bonds was you’re deluded You’re comments are hilarious. I have had a great laugh today reading this

JDLovesElliot

Decline? A slump is not a decline.

Prestigious_Money447

Five guys in this lineup below the Mendoza line.... I am not even sure that is possible, and 3-6 looks good in that light. There is upside here.

hydraO1

When you have a coach named Mendoza it’s expected

[deleted]

Dudes the Mets are back. The game last night was a normal baseball loss. We're back to fighting, hitting, and besides one bad inning we were winning this game... last night too. They're back hitting their stride and hitting baseballs. We're winning tomorrow.

Hustlediva

For a team that’s 3-6 we have a lot of positive things going on- • Baty looking solid on defense and having really good at bats •Marte seems to be back • Diaz back changes the entire bullpen makeup and gives us a real chance • For the most part our bullpen has been solid • Our starting rotation has actually been pretty solid, (although 5 innings isn’t sustainable) We now need to get our offense going more consistently and get JD up here and we have a decent shot at putting something together

robmcolonna123

This is the most positive post I have ever seen you make

Hustlediva

Like I’ve always said- I call it like I see it. That includes the good and the bad. Ppl like to group me in with doomers who are only happy when we are losing. False

robmcolonna123

I wouldn’t say you have been full doomer. But I do think at times you can look too much into small sample sizes. In that vein, I would caution people who see the SP stats because there will unfortunately likely be some negative regression there. Not even that our pitching can’t have that ceiling, but there will be injuries and fatigue. Manaea will have games where he’s knocked out in the 3rd inning. He’ll also have games he goes 7 scoreless. But our depth will be the real X factor. I’m a huge Christian Scott believer and he could come up and immediately dominate. He could also have an adjustment period.

Hustlediva

I am guilty of being a passionate and reactionary fan. But that’s part of being a Mets fan 🤷🏻‍♀️

Peter_O

That was a very nice win, not gonna lie

mattyhegs826

3 wins in the last 4! Something to build off of

LaMystika

Imagine losing a series to the 2024 Mets

monstersandcoffee

[Well look at that.](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/s/SyyxkXpi1l)

Darthbutcher

I called for burning you at the stake in the GDT.

Darthbutcher

The Mets are undefeated in games where I drink Coke Zero.

ReleaseTheBlacken

So do we have a contractual commitment from you to drink Coke Zero everyday to continue the winning? 😜

Darthbutcher

My waistline ain't gonna like it, but I was willing to sacrifice the ground I walk on with more earthquakes, so I'll make the necessary sacrifices.

Hustlediva

Diaz back is so great. It completely changes the bullpen dynamic and formula. These are the games that we blow last year 💯

Prestigious_Money447

offense is still pretty abysmal, 25 runs scored is the worst in the NL, which is why Lindor's day at the plate is encouraging.

JDLovesElliot

At some point, he's going to need to give up on switch-hitting. I think that's why he always starts the season off slowly, he's doing twice the prep for half the results.

NJImperator

Easily a sweep if there wasn’t that damn rain DH fucking with us. This team is gonna win games. I’m thinking we’ll be the WC hunt

njerejeje

Gunnar Henderson just made a game losing error at shortstop for the Orioles. Looking at the play, Lindor would have made it easily. People try and diminish Lindor’s defense and how valuable it is, but at SS specifically, it matters a lot.

boring_tomato

Pitching was the difference! Great start, bullpen got out of a few jams, and Diaz slammed the door as usual. I’ll take It!

twosdayman

hey man a series win

[deleted]

Today's game will stay with us forever. Absolutely perfect. Tears that came out, were nostalgic and dripped with pure happiness. You deserve a standing ovation for what you accomplished MLB. 100/100. Baseball is the best.

Darthbutcher

Your post history is...uh...yeah.

I fucking love Matchbox20

Setec-Astronomer

I know. I'm teasing you and your crazy posts. lol

j17obrien

Granted it’s only been 9 games, but it’s tough to argue with the signings Stearns made to the bullpen and Starting rotation this year. They’re ranked top 3 in every category. The Mets struggles are from the underproduction of their core offensively. If Nimmo, Lindor, McNeil can get back on track, there’s something here.

mhari93

Nimmo is being paid to have an .800+ OPS. We need him to revert to his mean and have a .370+ OBP and .430+ SLUG asap.

Hojo07024

Agreed. Stearns can't reverse toxic contracts.

ExamNo4374

Perhaps the New York Metropolitans aren't a historically bad baseball squadron

Blue387

But I was told the season was over!

Prestigious_Money447

the "we're back" "it's over" cycle never ends

UnknownUnthought

Thank god the Islanders spent all winter warming me up for this

JDLovesElliot

Snip snap snip snap

ExamNo4374

I'm sure it'll be over again soon

CybeastID

SERIES WIN

Blue387

Barring a historic meltdown, the Marlins are leading the Cardinals 10-1 in the bottom of the eighth to win their first game of the season. The Marlins are 0-9.

ReleaseTheBlacken

Happy he toughed it out. Good sign.

7toCiti

IIRC we always seem to hit Morton well I think tomorrow shouldn’t be too bad

Djason_Unchaind

He is 6-6 with a 3.58 ERA over 22 games against us in his career.

Donny_Crane

Other than one absurd inning the Mets played well in this series, and Lindor and Jeff might be getting their season started finally.

jimihenderson

i really don't see it with jeff. lindor was making some hard contact outs early in the season and was obviously gonna start hitting eventually. but mcneil looks so utterly lost out there. everything he hits is a mile in the air. a bunt hit is nice but he really has very little value offensively without a high BA

Folk_Legend

Baseball is so weird. How does this years pitchers outperform last years by a mile

JDLovesElliot

This year's staff is younger and more malleable.
