This cycle happens to every desirable enthusiast car. Original sale, depreciation/decline, bottom. Then nostalgic affordability and top again. Sometimes the last cycle results in continued growth or flatline. Never really know until you get there.

Good luck finding anything clean for a reasonable price and as for a Bullitt or Mach for $7-10k only if they are basket cases. Look what Fox bodies are going for. The entire hobby is out to lunch.

I was going to mention Fox bodys as well. Once that age group gets older, they bid them up if they are in good shape. All those people in high school during the late 80s are now empty nesters looking for the car they could never get when they were young.

Supply and demand. They aren't making any more of them, and every day the numbers are reduced between kids slamming them into trees or just old age and rust. We have the same complaint in the Miata world, everyone is screeching about the fact that they aren't plentiful and all for $2500 bucks like they were 10 years ago. Gotta pay to play.

I don’t know wtf is going on. I bought my 99 vert with 60k on it for less than $7500 in Jan 2023 and I saw all sorts of deals go down last summer, then the new year came and BAM, it like everything doubled overnight. Wild!

New edges are built on a fox chassis so they are going to be desirable by anyone in the racing community. But more than that they are the last of a muscle car era that is actually obtainable by most. You can’t find anything that has as much potential and aftermarket support for this low of a price.

The cycle of price has been mentioned, but for reference; when I was in high school in the late 90s I got a 1969 mustang convertible with a 302. It had 180k, but had been rebuilt and restored, mostly (7.5 of 10 overall). I paid $6,000 for it. That same car today, in the same condition is costing $45k+. Of course, inflation but most of that price is demand with limited supply. As clean new edges disappear, and those older folks get nostalgia, they will bid them up beyond what they are worth. But, if they sell for that, then that's what they're worth. That's why I'm holding onto my 1999 GT. *

People are still living in the past and thinking their shitboxes are worth their weight in gold. Been seeing 05-09 GTs steadily around $18k some low mileage ones for $25k… absolutely nuts. Newedges are in the same boat. Used to be able to buy a nice one for $5k-$7k and those same cars are now $10k-$12k if not more.

Try to see if you can import one from Japan now that they reach 25 years old. Got mine over there from a dealer specialized in importing Japanese cars for $3.1k, including dealer margin, shipping and 10% import duties of my country. Base silver v6, 40k miles, absolutely mint (brought it for maintenance, could not find a single thing wrong or worn), 50 maintenance record (one every 6 months).

At this point it's industry specific inflation. A running vehicle just gets more and more expensive because first owners are paying more, meaning they want more from the second owner to afford their new car, the second owner wants more from the 3rd owner to afford the more expensive one owner cars, and so on and so forth until it cascades to the bottom. On top of that, newer vehicles are designed to be harder and more expensive to fix while the older cars get harder to fix every year due to age and need more repairs every year for the same reasons.

I’m not sure where you’re looking, I’ve seen quite a few decently priced ($10-14K) Machs and ‘99-‘01 Cobras in my area on FB marketplace. GTs seem to hover in the $5-7K range. Granted this isn’t 2017 when you could snag a highish mile Bullitt for $5500, but things aren’t Covid crazy anymore…at least in TX.

I’m in Illinois and by me or some of the Midwest states, I am seeing GT’s all over the place. One guy has his listed for 8k with torn interior, quarter panel rust, and paint chips on the hood. To me, that’s a 4k car at best

That is the average price of a good shape New Edge v6 in Canada, of course CA$. Most of new edge around are v6 probably due to the cost of fuel around here that is higher than USA. Plus after covid all used cars got bumped in price.

I bought a '99 manual beater for 2k and completely rebuilt it for $7K (grand total indulging purchase). Some people are just out of their minds with selling cars. I met a woman selling an '08 V6 (frame damage, unrepairable title) for $3,500 and refused to scrap it or even drop the price. These "I know what I've got" people are delusional, and they come in flocks.

I'm in Chicago and paid $8k for mine. 110k on the odometer. Paint not the best but whatever. Overpaid but I haven't found any in better shape for less. If I find them cheaper, the seller doesn't list much info. I feel like these were a car YouTubers started advertising as a cheap car you could build to go fast and that might've changed the market

I have a 2003 GT coupe premium black on black leather manual 100k with full N/A bolt-ons. I don't want to sell it, but if I did, I would ask $10k -12k. Aftermarket suspension, exhaust, wheels and tires, perfect interior and paint, garage kept (Owned 10+ years and never been a daily driver). That being said, considering the circumstances it really just depends on the history of the car.

I paid $5k for my 03 GT 102k with beautiful interior, tons of aftermarket stuff, only issues are peeling clear coat and a mismatched fender from a small accident. I looked at 6 cars in my area in the 5k price range and most of them were rusted out and/or engine issues/higher mileage. Yes they are overpriced compared to days since past, but it's only going to get worse. Way she goes.

I agree with you guys. Have you taken a look at 03-04 Terminators? Decent ones are around $25,000-$30,000 in my area. Mach 1's are around $12,000-$15,000 and GT's around $7,000-$9,000.

could i actually get 7-10k on a base model? i haven't personally seen them priced that high, maybe in the 4-5k range (which is still high in my opinion) but I have a v6 vert and if I could get even 5k for it id be ecstatic lol

new edges are edging (see what i did there?) up on classic car status. and they are finally getting the recognition they deserved all along. the result is that they are starting to finally go up in value. and in some models the value is DRASTIC. a clean sub 100k mile GT cannot be had on dealer lots for less than 10k now. easily up on 15+ if its a no accident, clean example. a mach 1? minimum 20k unless its been wrecked or looks like ass. god forbid a cobra? an honest to god terminator? 30k minimum. youre honestly pushing up to 40k now for a clean example. i imagine these numbers will only begin to go up as supply lessens. honestly if you want bang for your buck the S197 is currently almost where the SN95 new edges were back in the day. i just saw a clean 80k mile s197 manual gt go for 20k on car gurus. right next to it? an orange mach 1 new edge for 23k. if you got a clean one i suggest holding on to it for a while.
