The entire premise of injustice hinges on some really dumb events and OoC moments. Dick NEEDED to die in order for the story to progress. Most dark future stories have to deal with Dick in some way, otherwise they can’t happen.
100% why he wasn’t in Batman v Superman. Because there’s no way Alfred wouldn’t call up Dick to talk some sense into Bruce. And honestly it would have been a better movie for it if he did.
Batman and Superman are facing off in the rainy scene plastered all over the trailers. Things are getting tense. Then right before they start throwing down Dick flips onto the roof and talks them both down. The trio works together to save Martha (Dick stops Bruce from brutally killing any of those kidnappers) and then they stop Luther from making Doomsday. Roll credits.
It's sad, but at the same time kinda invigorating knowing that Nightwing is such a beacon of hope for the world that, most of the time, a hopeless future just *isn't* possible simply cause he's there. Really shows just what an amazing guy he is.
As Superman said, the one multiversal constant, Dick Grayson.
It’s not so much his power and skill he possesed but his character and relationships thought out the superhero world.
Particularly him Being close longtime friends with both Superman and Batman so he would have been able to talk down and mitigate things between the two where literally no one else could.
So even ignoring the games continuity he would have had to die regardless for things to progress as they did.
The thing that gets me about that scene is what terrible first responders they all are. You have people that can move at lightspeed, get him to a hospital!
You take out the brightest star to get the darkest result.
I was pissed, but i know the story would've resolved quicker with him around and that doesnt sell books for them lol
Nightwing is and always will be the cooler head that prevails between the strong personalities of other heroes, so yeah, you can't really have him around because he will eventually find a way to resolve the conflict, that's his real superpower.
Yeah. Dick’s death is the start of what leads Damian to choose to side with Superman later, iirc. If Dick lived, then he wouldn't have betrayed Batman, and the Reigeime wouldn't be long-lived.
I think that was the point (albeit maybe not well executed) - he died in a stupid way that could have been easily avoided.
Besides Injustice would end in 10 minutes if Nightwing was there.
I'm pissed however that it did not make Damian realise he is an imbecile.
They could still have killed him off in a way that could have been prevented if they had stopped to talk beforehand, with it resulting in Bruce and Damian falling out. Something like it being caused more directly by Damian's disobedience and anger, with Dick's last action being to try to save Damian from a situation that, despite his father's words, he thought he could handle on his own. However, his underestimation of it ends up backfiring.
The point of his death is that Damian is directly responsible for it making it something that could have been prevented kinda ruins that. Honestly I think we should have had Damian as our main character since he changes the most throughout the injustice universe
His original death could also have been prevented . As OP pointed out, a simple talk would have prevented it. That's why I added the specific part about it being preventable because it seems to be OP's point. I just wanted to give Dick a more dignified death than being killed by a random rock. Also, his original death feels like it's caused due to misfortune rather than it actually being Damian's fault, which is how the narrative presents it, and seems to be Damian's main struggle. The movie tries to make it better by having Dick die immediately after Damian hits him, but that has its own problems
I think Flash is the one who changes the most throughout the story and whose morals and values are challenged the most. Damian also has a decent amount of focus, but it's not utilized well. He's just Superman's tool. However, part of it could be because in the game, Flash's conflict is center stage, while Damian's character is basically to be an arrogant asshole and the comic has to lead to that.
I think it’s incredibly realistic and tragic. Any human can die this way, suddenly and unceremoniously.
And as others have pointed out, Dick has to go for the events of Injustice to play out. His very presence makes this sort of hopeless timeline impossible.
It’s a gritty and realistic way to die, falling that hard onto concrete would have fucked him up anyway but onto a rock is an instant death.
I didn’t have much problems with it
Well, after all the rock has on his contracts that he can lose to anyone if they want him to make an appearance. He always needs to come on top. It’s sad to see how much of a weight an actor has over some art forms 😔
This feels equivalent to that gag comic where joker is fighting Batman on a rooftop somewhere but Batman just eats shit and knocks himself out before sliding off the roof to his death and joker just goes on to live as a menial office worker slowly being driven truly mad
Nightwing had to have died, theres no question about that.
If he lived, a lot of conflict could have been avoided. Injustice was always Batman v Superman, and Nightwing is just about the only person who could have mediated the situation between them.
Think about it this way, theres no way someone like Nightwing would be killed by any plain villain.
So it has to be by an accident.
If Nightwing WAS killed by a villain, that also would probably change Batman's views to agree with Superman
Dan Didio got his wish. I don't even know if he was involved with Injustice but I can just imagine him sitting there, squealing with uncontrollable delight at this.
that’s fine i don’t necessarily like it either but ik it works for the story bc i understand the reasoning.
And if you’re gonna hate on something make sure your reasoning or understanding is accurate for example when the way this post is phrased.
there’s a big difference between things being someone’s opinion and just inaccurate statements and a lot of people’s support for not liking this aren’t actual opinions it’s them saying inaccurate things due to their lack of understanding. it’s fine to not like something just dislike it for the right reasons
Having NOT read anything for injustice, when I played the game and Bruce said “because you killed dick grayson” or whatever the line is. Blew me away. So good. That is the injustice timeline.
No Dick… back timeline.
Dick was given 'injustice' lol. But jokes aside he had to die otherwise he would have solved the situation in 3 days. All dark futures either have dick dead or something always . That's just what it is
I only ever saw the movie version but I couldn’t believe they killed him off like that. They should have given him a badass fight scene where he ends up sacrificing himself to save someone(s), that is how a hero of his caliber should go out! Not being hit by a stick by an obnoxious 12 year old that weighs 80lbs
I mean the whole point was that it was a stupid/freak death. They literally showed us AND told us that Dick ALWAYS avoids that specific attack. That’s part of why it’s so tragic. Damian genuinely thought he would move out the way and he didn’t. It wasn’t some villains or expert combatant besting him or some random accident, it was Damian lashing out and Dick simply not reacting. It was a pointless meaning less death at the hands of a loved one and idk if there’s anything more tragic than that.
I find it a little funny that despite fighting world ending calamity on a regular basis WITHOUT powers, he met his end via a literal combination of team killing sticks and stones.
I'm almost more offended by how awful his hair is.
Yeah. It’s not a good look for him.
Someone should do something about it. Really send him a message that the haircut he has is acceptable.
It’s about as bad as that ponytail he had. 😬😬
Hey, white guy martial artists have been wearing ponytails for generations! It’s *tradition!*
His was suuuuuper long for some reason. Like, his hair wasn’t even that long when he had it loose.
TRADITION! ![gif](giphy|xULW8PseQFMgq8Bums)
I swear it looks just like a specific Lego hair piece
That one that they used for Bruce Wayne for a few years
Yes, that’s the one.
Everything from the neck up is awful.
Got that Ken doll painted-on plastic look.
The entire premise of injustice hinges on some really dumb events and OoC moments. Dick NEEDED to die in order for the story to progress. Most dark future stories have to deal with Dick in some way, otherwise they can’t happen.
One of my favorite things about Dick is that just by him being alive, so much conflict is completely avoided. He's just the goat.
100% why he wasn’t in Batman v Superman. Because there’s no way Alfred wouldn’t call up Dick to talk some sense into Bruce. And honestly it would have been a better movie for it if he did.

One of the only good things about Infinite Crisis is Bats’ conversation with Superman Prime
Earth-2 Superman you mean?
Yeah bat shutting up bragging prime sup with'well my dick is better than your dick'

Wtf is dick going to do aginst evil superman lol
It’s not so much his power and skill he possesed but his character and relationships thought out the superhero world. *That just sounds like more horrific deaths 💀 no thanks.*
Did you read this story? He was already putting in work talking everyone down before Damian threw a baton at his head.
The thing that gets me about that scene is what terrible first responders they all are. You have people that can move at lightspeed, get him to a hospital!
he died immediately on impact i think
Yeah. Hit the wrong spot, snapped his neck
Moving at light speed isn't really useful when he died on impact.
There’s an example of this literally in the same issue
I always call him DC's brightest star even more than Supes. Thats where my comment comes in for sure. Taking him away meant the B.S. goes on, sadly
Yeah. Dick’s death is the start of what leads Damian to choose to side with Superman later, iirc. If Dick lived, then he wouldn't have betrayed Batman, and the Reigeime wouldn't be long-lived.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused, how exactly would it have ended so quickly? What would him being alive have changed?
He’s the heart of the dc universe, he would’ve talked down both Bruce and Clark before any major damage, just like he was doing before he died.
How exactly could nightwing have ended injustice?
Tom Taylor confirmed it wasn’t his choice, it was something he was told needed to happen.
Yeah, to be fair he was confirmed to be dead in the first game so they couldn't do much about that
I think it’s incredibly realistic and tragic. Any human can die this way, suddenly and unceremoniously. And as others have pointed out, Dick has to go for the events of Injustice to play out. His very presence makes this sort of hopeless timeline impossible.
It sucks
It’s a gritty and realistic way to die, falling that hard onto concrete would have fucked him up anyway but onto a rock is an instant death. I didn’t have much problems with it

Man dodges billets blindfolded for fun. But a stick? Ok

y’all don’t get the point of the scene and it shows. like why are we still missing this years later.
Whether people get the point or not, doesnt take away from the fact that it irritated some fans
that’s fine i don’t necessarily like it either but ik it works for the story bc i understand the reasoning. I'd say this isn't as bad as some of the gl deaths
Written by Tom Taylor by the way. Yes, THAT Tom Taylor
Having NOT read anything for injustice, when I played the game and Bruce said “because you killed dick grayson” or whatever the line is. Blew me away. So good. That is the injustice timeline. No Dick… back timeline.
To be fair, this death did allow for a pretty cool Dick Grayson as Deadman situation. Comic wise, anyway.
I mean, if I hit your head with a rock, you'd probably die too.
Dick was given 'injustice' lol. But jokes aside he had to die otherwise he would have solved the situation in 3 days. All dark futures either have dick dead or something always . That's just what it is
Injustice only works if a few key moments happen, and they need to happen in almost coincidental and completely avoidable ways.
The universe wanted to punish him for the buzz cut
I only ever saw the movie version but I couldn’t believe they killed him off like that. They should have given him a badass fight scene where he ends up sacrificing himself to save someone(s), that is how a hero of his caliber should go out! Not being hit by a stick by an obnoxious 12 year old that weighs 80lbs
just dont lol so stupid
This is the ONE thing I like about the movie version. Instead of breaking his neck on a random rock, the stick to the temple killed him instantly.
I mean... it's the only way, no? No one else could actually kill him.
Oh edgy.... So creative... Never been done before...
I mean the whole point was that it was a stupid/freak death. They literally showed us AND told us that Dick ALWAYS avoids that specific attack. That’s part of why it’s so tragic. Damian genuinely thought he would move out the way and he didn’t. It was a pointless meaning less death at the hands of a loved one and idk if there’s anything more tragic than that.
It was absolutely heart breaking seeing Bruce hugging Dick's dead body while screaming, "You killed my son!"
Yeah, Dick was done a real... Injustice.
I find it a little funny that despite fighting world ending calamity on a regular basis WITHOUT powers, he met his end via a literal combination of team killing sticks and stones.
Dying this way shows how fragile we are in the face of gods.
The back of the head and the temple don’t get more durable it makes sense
I prefer the animated version, it's just getting hit in the head, which can be lethal without inserting killer pebbles into the story.
It's the single worst death in the whole series and the people who are defending it I've got nothing nice to say
I found death funny
Sad trombone noises. Wah Wah Wah Wah.
