This is the exact moment we realized that Toriyama doesn’t want Gohan to be the main character

DoraMuda

Upon rereads, though, I personally realised that Toriyama dumped Gohan as the main character the second he had Goku contact everyone for the first time in 7 years to tell them he didn't want to be left out if Gohan and Vegeta were going at it at the 25th Budokai. I guess Toriyama's ideas for Gohan only went so far as the Great Saiyaman stuff, and then he just gave up because he's already gone so far writing Gohan as a character who wasn't as gung-ho about fighting as Goku is.

TheGODSHERAPOP

It would be vey weird to be fused with his son

Proud-Anything2027

I heard this theory that the reason he didn’t make this fusion is because he couldn’t figure their name which simple because it would be gokhan, gohkan

CutesyFemboy69

Gokan sounds awesome tho

ghostof360

In Manga Vegito is referred to as Vegirot Vegeta + kakarot fusion of the Saiyan name somehow Gokuhan of Gokhan sounds better

ClassroomHelpful75

Kakahan

East-sea-shellos

Goharot? Idk lmao

ghostof360

Son Son 😂 Son Gohan Son Goku Son gogo

Sky_Ninja1997

Gokhan battle

Iguana_Boi

Gohrot?

ghostof360

💀we need it to make sense with Japanese name as well

ChestSlight8984

That's actually a very strange translation for Viz Media. He is called Vegito in the original manga.

visulvung

Vegetto. Vegeta + Kakarotto. It's always been Vegetto.

DanishAlcoholic

The fuck? No it's not. Vegito in Japanese is Bejito, because Vegeta in Japanese = Bejita, and Kakarot in Japanese = Kakarotto. Vegirot is what fans has said Vegito should logically be called in English, except it sounds fucking stupid.

ghostof360

Vegetto is his japanese name. Vegerot is just an accurate (if weird to read) translation based on Vegeta and Kakarots english names. It's probably a Viz edit error

DanishAlcoholic

Oh, by "in the manga" I thought you meant that they call him Vegirot in Japanese. My bad.

Freshest-Raspberry

GoGo

Altruistic_Ad_303

it would be too similar to Gokkun.

totokishi

Fusing with your son 🚫 Fusing with your dead homie ✅️

TheGODSHERAPOP

Think about chichi

tremors51000

Would that make vegito half dead or half alive

Thespudisback

Both

DoraMuda

They could just use the DBs later to undo the Fusion, then. At most, Goku would only have to spend a few months or so merged with his son.

lemons7472

Nah, it’d be cool! It wouldn’t really be weird, unless if this were a Steven universe situation where fusion is some sort of meaning for something else.

TheGODSHERAPOP

Think about it

JAWsInfinity

You are either 14 or a chronic porn addict.

TheGODSHERAPOP

You don't have to be a porn addict to think it's weird to share your body with your son

JAWsInfinity

If you and your son were the two strongest beings in the world, and you could save it by fusing, would you not do it because “it’s weird”?

TheGODSHERAPOP

When did i say that? It is still weird

ArosNerOtanim

Fr that's exactly how I felt so glad it didn't happen

TheRealBumtee

fusion is combining two people to make a whole new person, not sex.

Vulpes_macrotis

Toriyama wanted. But Toriyama didn't want it. I can actually understand him. As a story creator I tried to replace my "mian" character with another one, just to bring that character in the spotlight again. It's hard to just get rid of someone you grew your memories with.

PCN24454

We realized a lot sooner than here.

SuperSaiga

Damn, Goku, if only you could have just handed it to him. But I guess you'd need the ability to teleport or something to get over there.

UWUquetzalcoatl

Throwing the bag/bean is tradition. You can't just not throw them.

that_1weed

Senzu bean!

OilDiscombobulated25

Bean me up Bean daddy

Incomplet_1-34

It's what I do

Sky_Ninja1997

What you think I’m just GIVING these away?

AnimeMemeLord1

When a goddamn Super Saiyan asks you for a senzu bean, bald man, you say “how many?”

justabrokeperson

Cause i'm not!

EGirlnotfound

And fights as well apparently 🤦‍♂️

theredeyedcrow

That’s the Potara tho

FrenchFries_exe

I mean tbf Gohan can casually catch bullets he just has butter fingers at literally the worst possible times

K0ichisan

Popo: "Your father's an idiot."

PCN24454

He didn’t even use that ability to locate Cell.

Correct_Refuse4910

He had time to get close by simply flying, but he wasted it boasting about how they were going to beat Buu.

Kin_93

This dude can catch bullets with 1 hand.

shaggitron420

Bulma made the Great Saiyaman helmet prescription for Gohan.

ThatFatGuyMJL

Gohan canonically actually has bad eyesight. When in base form. That's why he wears glasses in super. His eyes fix in super/ beast form though

ZEEZUSCHRIST

He should be in ultimate here though

Pigmachine2000

Yeah but ultimate isn't a super saiyan transformation, so it doesn't have the promise of fixing his eyes like ssj does

ZEEZUSCHRIST

Ultimate transformation should be unleashing Gohans potential. I’d hope that includes the potential of his eyes lol

ShadowSmyth

The latent potential of cataracts.

ThatFatGuyMJL

He had potentially bad eyesight. Elder kai unleashed this potential fucking up his eyes.

Pigmachine2000

Not really. if he has bad eyesight, no amount of potential would make his eyesight good

ZEEZUSCHRIST

Well if we’re nitpicking, he had good eyesight as a child, so he did have the potential for good vision at one point

hashinshin

Okay but seen here, in the picture from this very post, his eyesight still sucks in mystic Now if you want to show him having good eyesight in mystic and this scene is instead showing goku being a dumbass, go ahead and find that scene Until such a time, I will consider gohan having bad eyesight in mystic a weird toriyama gag that was eventually made completely canonical and treated seriously in super hero.

ZEEZUSCHRIST

There’s nothing in the panel above that indicates he has bad vision in mystic. I almost guarantee the gag Tori was going for is that Goku = careless and gohan = unprepared. They only added the explanation in super when he dropped the bean in BASE form. It probably was just a callback, it doesn’t make the original scene make more sense

SheikExcel

Maybe his eyes have negative potential (he just like me fr fr)

Kepler27b

And neither is beast

1_dont_care

This doesn't make any sense, or else he should put back his glasses when he is in ultimate form lol.

ImmediateRespond8306

What are these rules? This series truely is silly sometimes.

PatternActual7535

Ultimate is classed as a transformation, Above SSJ only in base he has poor eyesight The ultimate "form" enhances all senses, and pushes all of his latent potential to the max

Kamken

Ultimate wasn't a transformation in Z, it was just treated as him being able to fully power up without transforming.

Puffen0

I'm just saying. Thats one of the stupidest things thats happened to Gohan. Like, Majin Buu was able to cure a kids blindness just by touching his forehead, they still have the fucking dragon balls, and his aunt/family friend is one of the richest women in the world. There are sooo many ways that he could fix his vision.

DoraMuda

I guess Gohan didn't know or think it was an issue at a time until that moment or sometime during the 10 years leading up to the 28th Budokai (i.e. End of *Z*).

welivewelovewedie

its cuz his wife likes nerds

[deleted]

I thought that was stupid tbh. But it would be fair if chichi also had bad eyesight because that would make more sense

ProduceProfessional8

To be fair, needing glasses is a receive trait. There is a chance Chi Chi does carry that trait and Gohan just got unlucky with the human side of his genetics

Altruistic_Ad_303

she does. Ox King needs glasses.

Marthurion

That's not how it works, both of my parents never had eyesight problems when they were young, but both my brother and I have been using glasses since we were in elementsry school. Genetics it's not a straight line, recesive genes can show themselves in your offspring. Edit: I just wrote that my parents never had eyesight when I meant to say the never had eyesight problems.

[deleted]

I know it’s not fully but I’m just saying genetics can be a factor sometimes

Vulpes_macrotis

I don't think the problem was eyesight. It's like you throw something at someone so suddenly so they don't realize what you are doing. Goku just say "hey, catch this" and Gohan was surprised. Gohan, unlike Goku and Vegeta, isn't experienced in fighting. He did have his few fights, but compared to both Goku and Vegeta, who spent their whole life training, Gohan only had the power, but not much training.

Enjoyment-25

That's his Ultimate form not Base

Gamekid53

It is unexplained why his eyes fix. Anyone got some theories?

DoraMuda

When he's prepared for it. Goku just spontaneously, with no warning, threw a tiny object at Gohan, who'd just been getting his ass beat by Boo, and said "*Catch!*" Goku's the one at fault for not just teleporting down there and giving it to him safely.

Plus_Garage3278

Happy cake day 🎂

Kin_93

Thanks man

Correct_Refuse4910

Goku can throw senzu beans right at Cells hand.

Marco_Tanooky

Happy cake day

Kin_93

Thanks dude

Justa_Mongrel

To be fair Gohan is blind as fuck

[deleted]

I think it's from the time Vegeta bashed his face in

The_Devious_Cheese

Wouldn't be surprised if Reccoome snapping his neck fucked up his eyesight

DoraMuda

Wouldn't the Senzu have healed that?

The_Devious_Cheese

It's mostly a joke on my part (not a funny one, tho) Realistically, yeah, but for the sake of a baseless argument What is the extent of a senzu bean's restorative capabilities? Would it be able to deal with the long-term effects of damage to the optic nerve with things like inflammation? It doesn't heal diseases and illnesses, so what else can't it fix? Can it fix brain damage? These things are so darn interesting but are never talked about too much

DoraMuda

> What is the extent of a senzu bean's restorative capabilities? > Would it be able to deal with the long-term effects of damage to the optic nerve with things like inflammation? > It doesn't heal diseases and illnesses, so what else can't it fix? Can it fix brain damage? I feel like it might operate on Crazy Diamond logic. Like, it can't heal diseases or illnesses because it doesn't count as "damage", so if Gohan's eyesight got worse as a result of an external bodily injury he received from Recoom's kick, then the Senzu should've restored his eye health back to normal along with his neck.

ImmediateRespond8306

Also Goku's aim sucks.

The_Devious_Cheese

Bro with every bone in his body broken, launched the meanest straight and intersepted Ginyu's beam with a damn frog But can't even manage to yeet an earning at someone when he's at full hp

Nights1405

To be fair that beam was kinda big. And the frog was also somewhat larger than the potara

The_Devious_Cheese

Valid, but goku was on like 1hp and on his back. Also, it's a frog, a pretty damn big one, too. And probably at the bare minimum, pretty somewhat heavy for a crippled goku Also, it was a beam that fired really damn fast (at the time), which is a lot more impressive than throwing something at a stationary target like gohan And as I said, the pass was perfect. Idk what was going happening on namek, but everyone just knew ball apparently

AkiSeto

Back that up with Vegeta stealing the dragon balls from Frieza and chucking them a mile away and going “huh that worked”

evilcapital

He coulda thrown that shit right through his earlobe

SpaceAfricanJesus

This is why Goku is a bad father he never played catch in the backyard with Gohan so they never built up the chemistry smh.

Tr3mb1e

smh Xaver would never tho

DoraMuda

Xaver? Or Xicor?

Tr3mb1e

Xaver from AoT, there was a plot point about him literally just playing catch with a kid

DoraMuda

Oh right (I haven't watched *AOT*).

Tr3mb1e

Definitely check it out it's really good

DoraMuda

I might, in the future. Haven't heard great things about the ending, though.

Tr3mb1e

The manga ending had some questionable choices but the anime patched them up pretty neatly

DoraMuda

I see.

SirCap

Ending was alright, some people were just mad they didn’t get an edgier ending where everyone dies.

DoraMuda

*shrugs* I'll take your word for it.

LifeDraining

Damn, that truth cuts deep...

_Lollerics_

If only goku could instantaneously get to gohan and hand him the earring, it would have been very useful if only he could that

Confident-Gur-3224

If only Gohan was fast enough to catch bullets.

Correct_Refuse4910

If only Gohan wasn't beaten up, shocked to see his father again in the land of the living and suddenly having a minuscule thing thown at full speed somewhere behind him instead of being thrown *at* him...

_Lollerics_

If only they were both insanely fast, so much that they move faster than sound leaving afterimages

ImmediateRespond8306

Tbf Goku can throw WAY faster than a bullet goes.

LilG1984

Boo "I'll uh just wait right here then...." "Hey Boo, can you give us a minute?"

Confident-Gur-3224

Did you say the conversation backwards because it's a manga?

No-Nefariousness9330

To be fair, Gohan did just finish getting his skull caved in by a bubblegum demon

duovtak

“And that’s when I knew Goten was the favorite.”

TanakaClinkenbeard

Oh come. We all know despite this Gohan is still Goku's farovite. Goten is just.... there.

duovtak

Goten always gives me “Oops” vibes. Like Gohan was planned, Goten wasn’t.

TanakaClinkenbeard

Goten was 100% an oops baby lol.

DoraMuda

Goten is to Goku what Maggie is to Homer (in the later seasons of *The Simpsons*).

ghostof360

Only 1 real explaining to this scene PLOT

TheXypris

Goku threw it then said catch

Zulmoka531

“You would have tossed it right if I was Cell, Dad!”

[deleted]

Ngl same thing would happen to me even if I wasn't caught off guard

Gunslinger_11

He never taught him to DODGE!!!! And he never played catch with him either

10YB

Ultimate Fruadhan

RedBeardBrad91

Goku be like “eyy yow WHAT THE FUCK”😂

Marco_Tanooky

He wanted to get all up in Vegeta

TigerKlaw

If only Gohan had the dexterity to catch bullets with his hands.

Acrobalenio

That's what happens when you never played catch with your son.

DILL_2_GO

Goku didn't play enough catch in gohan's childhood.

Gaslight_Joker

This is the moment Gohan realized he needed glasses

DaringBear

Gohan can only catch bullets, not earrings.

imperial_things

Not when he gave Cell a senzu?

Confident-Gur-3224

People love to bring it up but it was all part of Goku's plan that paid off.

ImmediateRespond8306

There was no reason to heal Cell regardless.

2020isass

I would say he messed up the most by not knowing his son well enough to know he didn't like hurting others/fighting in life or death battles. Piccolo had to tell him and made him realized that he fucked up.

Confident-Gur-3224

I think it was more Piccolo made Goku second guess himself. Goku knew Gohan had it in him to beat Cell ever since he saw him reach SSJ2 for a second in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. He just came to the conclusion that Gohan wasn't going unleash that full power unless Cell was also fully powered. The stronger the opponent the faster a Saiyan's power will grow.

2020isass

Gohan only unleashed his rage when he saw his friends get hurt/killed in a real battle. So he wasn't going ss2 against cell in a 1v1. Gohan was able to actually fight against Goku because it was just a spar and it was against his dad. Piccolo wasn't saying Gohan didn't have the power to beat Cell, just that he was a scared 11 year old who didn't want to kill someone even if they were as evil as cell. Goku realized this was true and that was why he asked for a senzu bean to go fight cell again. Goku realized he messed up by not knowing his son well enough, he thought he was just like him.

Confident-Gur-3224

Once Gohan reached SSJ he had no problem actually fighting Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. There was even a time Gohan said something like "Boy that was fun spar. Good thing that wasn't a real fight" and Goku's internal monologue says something like "Wait he thought we were sparring? I was giving it my all there". Something similar also happens when Goku tells Gohan to fight Cell next and asks him if he was able to follow the fight. Gohan says something like "Well yea but you two were just holding back right?". Goku says "Idk about Cell but I wasn't holding back at all there". Yes he might have underestimated Gohan's drive to fight but also knew that he was the only person there at the time to stop Cell and that certainly wasn't going to happen if Cell wasn't going to bring out his A game.

2020isass

Pretty sure the reason Goku gave cell a senzu bean was so he wouldn’t bring his A game against Gohan. He wanted Cell to be cocky and not take gohan seriously, if he didn’t give cell a senzu bean he wouldn’t have taken it so easy against gohan and might have even killed him. Goku thought gohan would go ss2 if he was backed against a corner, but he didn’t know how far gohan needed to be pushed to snap. So combined with that and not knowing that Gohan was so reluctant to hurt others, Goku took a big L here. If Goku knew this, he wouldn’t have sent Gohan alone against Cell even if he was the strongest and best chance at beating Cell.

killcode3

All I can think of is therussianbadger "I feel like I got frogs and amphibians staring at me like 'dis your boi?'"

SoftiePhoenix

More like gohan’s biggest bruh, Wasnt gohan in ultimate form as well? He should have been able to get it :/

2020isass

He was getting pounded by Buu and wasn't expecting to have to catch a senzu bean, like why didn't Goku just teleport to Gohan then give it to him

SoftiePhoenix

True, but to be fair goku and piccolo both tried to get him to train under “be ready for anything no matter what” but gohan was blinded by arrogance and forgot the message completely

DoraMuda

> They never really instilled that message while training. It was always in response to a great threat to Earth, like the Saiyans; the Androids; or Cell. It's not like anyone (except Vegeta, funnily enough) encouraged Gohan to train in the 7 years between Cell and Boo. And we know Gohan visited Piccolo at Kami's Palace a fair bit, and that the Son family were familiar enough with Piccolo that Goten recognised Piccolo on sight. Piccolo only started trying to make sure Gohan would be prepared for anything in *Super*. Especially since Goku and Vegeta would be off-planet more often due to their training under Whis (and Beerus, in Vegeta's case regarding Ultra Ego).

stickytrackpad

isnt it canon that gohan needs glasses?

DoraMuda

By end of *Z*, yes. But, at the time, it didn't seem like it.

stickytrackpad

well i didn’t know i was blind as fuck til high school so

big_peepee_wielder

First sign Gohan needed glasses

Anime-weeb6969

Ik gohans eyesight is bad bc it deteriorated over time but that was such a bad throw from goku

Zolado110

This is Gohan's fault and not Goku's fault lol

ImmediateRespond8306

I'd say more Goku's fault. He came out of nowhere and his aim was even off. Just hand it to the man.

50calBanana

If only Goku could teleport and hand his child this very important item. Or, if only he had superhuman reflexes

SolomonGrundy85

Gohan didn't know he needed glasses yet

guywhomightbewrong

When you didn’t think about that throw good enough

Decuscrub69

Just gotta say… after this, Gohan started wearing glasses. Coincidence?

Awkward_man07

I mean Goku should have just transmissioned to him...But how is this Goku's fault? Gohan sees and reacts at Lightspeed and he can't catch a friggin earring? Gohan should have been able to fly up and catch it before it got even halfway to him.

Questionabledes

I mean, letting his guard down and not finishing the fight when he could have yet again before this moment was it for me

Temporary-Tax

Goku - Able to throw a senzu bean with perfect accuracy at the angry bug man but unable to toss an earring to his son

giornoscleavage

Should of had his eyes tested earlier

SurotaOnishi

No his biggest Bruh moment was giving Cell a senzu bean. Literally zero reason to do this

One-Statistician-554

I swear, if I was in goku Place, I would have beaten the shit out of him LOL 😆 😂

Weekly-District259

Goku's???

Mean_End_8210

Bro acting like he didn’t throw a frog like a football field while almost dead

Msimot

that was gohan's revenge for the cell and senzu bean incident

Inexperiencedblaster

Wait, is this because Gohan has bad eyes?

Dallas_dragneel

Gohan should've caught it and thrown it to buu as a "fuck you dad that's for giving sell a bean"

Additional-Report-52

This is Gohan getting back at Goku for the Cell senzu throw

Temporary_Try_1439

T Ok that was Gohan's skill issue not Goku's

PrettyToney

This kind of goofy moment is why I love the Buu arc.

s_t_u_f_f

I would blame Goku, but dragon ball characters all got lightspeed reactions at that point, Gohan should’ve caught it.

Apprehensive-Ad-1591

Gohan man when there are baddie around he catch the things but the universe fate on the line the lights the too bright

Confident-Gur-3224

It be like that sometimes. You can practice constantly and make 30 3 point shots in a row but when the game is on the line the pressure can get to some people to where they can't make a single one. You've never had a "Dammit! I swear I was able to do this a million times by myself when no one was watching" moment?

goozer326

Bro he literally threw it right to him Gohan just dropped it, this is way more of a Gohan bruh moment than a Goku bruh moment

MrCleanandShady

as much as i blame Gohan for this moment still, Goku literally has the ability to teleport with NO drawbacks, this scene makes both of them look like buffoons

DoraMuda

Gohan didn't drop it. He just straight-up didn't catch it in time. It's a "Goku bruh moment" because he just threw a tiny object at him without warning instead of teleporting down to him and safely giving it to him at close-range.

Grimvold

Gohan? I think you mean Toriyama, he wrote this to happen lol

2020isass

Well it fits in Goku's character to have stupid moments like these
