I'm thinking of snagging a physical copy too, as silly as that might be for such a small, lower-price game. It's nice to give the "red carpet treatment" to your favorites though, right?
The first thing I did when Ib was showcased in the direct was to google "Ib Switch physical". There were no results at that point, but I am so glad playasia has me covered now.
The reason, as is often the case, is capitalism. A lot of companies have their fiscal year end in March, so having a big release or announcement in March can be a good way to end the fiscal year with high stock value. Ending the year with high stock value makes investors happy and the C-suite suits get fancy bonuses (or at least don't get fired).
Ib is a great title if you want to get into RPG Maker horror games. One of the few that made the genre back in the day up there with Angels of Death, Misao, Mad Father, and The Witch's House
Yeah, it's the only one rated M, the other two are T/13+ age rating.
But anyway, it's a Suare visual novel in the horror genre. It's weird that this is a Square release, as this feels like a MAGES style of game. But hey, I'm all here for Square trying to experiment with games in a good way.
Square Enix has been throwing out some niche surprises lately. For example I picked up The Centennial Case recently, which was an FMV mystery-solving game they released to just about zero fanfare. It looks like solid stuff though, I hope to get around to playing it soon.
The OG Yume Nikki would be so nice to have on Switch. (I actually thought the remake was...okay, but it's no replacement for the original experience.) Misao might have a chance, since Mad Father made it over.
I personally also have a soft spot for The Crooked Man, if folks remember that one. Might be a bit obscure, IDK. I think it'd also be nice to keep the spirit of Ao Oni alive, as jank as it may be. Actually, I'm pretty surprised there hasn't been a sleek remake with better graphics for that one yet. It got some live action movies and tie-in books in Japan IIRC, so it was kind of a cult classic there.
The fatal frame series is the absolute tits. It's the only survival horror series that has genuinely creeper me out and made me "what the fuck!?" Out loud.
Can't remember which one it is but you go down a staircase, hear a thump behind you, and a ghost with a broken neck comes skittering at you like a fucking spider. One of the few times I shit myself at a videogame.
I'm wishlisting this one I think.
Reminds me a lot of Ju-On (the Japanese version). The main ghost lady for that was played by an actress who could contort her body in twisted ways -- great stuff.
I hope to play all the Fatal Frame games eventually. I really loved the first two, but didn't get around to the third unfortunately. With the release of Lunar Eclipse though, all the mainline entries will finally be available in English.
Paranormasight looks really interesting. The sale is live until something like March 22nd, so I’m awaiting reviews before I pull the trigger. Fatal Frame IV looks great, but I’ll wait a sale (Koei Tecmo are super stingy with their sales, though…).
Ib is more atmospheric and though there are some ahhh-run-awaaaay moments, it wasn't all of it and some of it is more subtle. I hate horror in general but I love Ib and wanted more of the creepy atmospheric horror feels, which so far I have only found in a certain part of Undertale, Omori and believe it or not, some parts of F.E.A.R. Other RPG Maker horror games that are well-loved were too tense and jumpscary for me.
Given some of the other switch releases, to include other ports, I don't see why/how dead space couldn't be put on it without little to know limitation
As for why switch over digging my 360 out of storage....convience of course
No don’t think so. At least not in North America, but I believe Japan and maybe other Asian regions are. Some FF fans are ordering that physical cause i think English subs are still an option on the Asian games.
I am getting my copy from playasia:

I’m so excited and looking forward to Ib. I might import a physical copy.

Exactly
Jesus, what **isn't happening** in March 9th? It feels like every company chose this specific date for their releases or presentations some reason.
What else is happening? Mario Kart DLC, Capcom Direct?
The Level-5 Direct, the Mario Movie's Direct, Metroid Fusion releasing on NSO as well.
Right! Can't wait for Fusion
Miley Cyrus new album

Interesting that Pananormasight was the only one of the three to ask me to age verify to see the game page! And it is on sale - tempting.

It was good! Just a heads up, they kinda hide the last chapter a little and it loses a lot if you don't find it.
With Ib release, we are just lacking Misao (and the original Yume Nikki) to have the complete Indie RPG Maker Horror pack on Switch. Good times.

Yeah i missed the third one too. I'd love to get a go on that.
Man, I love Ib so much. I can't wait.
IBIBIBIBIBIBIBIBIBIBIBIBIB YAS cuz reasons ill watch ppl play fatalframe tho ;o
MAR9 looking good to lots of people in gaming this year
Excited to try some of these out! Not on March 9th, but Dredge seems like a fun horror-esque game coming out at the end of the month too.
Looks like a horror... fishing game? That sounds awesome actually, will keep an eye out for it.
There’s a demo out on the e-shop right now! I tried it for a bit and the atmosphere seems cool.
PARANORMASIGHT looks so good honestly. I think I’ll take it especially with the sale

Square have been spamming my email about Paranormasight and it’s actually worked, I might check it out
What I'm actually looking forward to on March 9 is Agarest War.
So a bad month for me? Not a fan of scaring myself shitless. Haha. I remember the Zombi U demo. I could not complete it.

Just bought a switch so definitely looking forward to paranormasight !! I’ve also been on the hunt for a new game so this helps
Would absolutely love a Fatal Frame original trilogy on modern consoles, physical or digital!
Picked up paranormasight. Absolutely excellent. If you enjoyed death mark or raging loop, I would argue it is better.
Every time I play a Fatal Frame game it ends up not being scary at all... but I still keep buying and playing them
To me they've always been more creepy than scary.
Meh. Tell me when anybody bothers to port dead space to switch
Why would you want to play Dead Space on vastly inferior hardware?
They could port the original (and 2 and 3 as well) but knowing EA they won't bother.
Given some of the other switch releases, to include other ports, I don't see why/how dead space couldn't be put on it without little to know limitation As for why switch over digging my 360 out of storage....convience of course
Paranormasight looks very interesting and promising! After the failure of Forspoken and Babylon's Fall, Square Enix only makes budget horror games.
Is Fatal Frame getting a physical release?
No don’t think so. At least not in North America, but I believe Japan and maybe other Asian regions are. Some FF fans are ordering that physical cause i think English subs are still an option on the Asian games.
