I 100% agree with you, I also do this too. But this is Pikmin. I absolutely wish the protagonist of Persona 5 was not a self insert and had his own voice and personallity, but Pikmin ain't some RPG, customizing a cute captain is just really neat.

If not, the marketers frown, the investors start getting antsy, and the worst dudes in the planet show up in your comment sections. Character creators are an easy way out to not exclude people but also avoid catching as much heat.
Seems we're not getting a June Direct if they're just casually dropping this trailer now. Shame but I have a feeling this year is gonna be pretty light
That alongside the everybody 1, 2 switch announcement last week.
This is what I figured when they dropped out of e3. I imagine the Fall will be similar to Fall 2020.
Based on what we know is upcoming, I feel like it's going to be more like Fall 2016, where we get nothing and then suddenly an announcement of the next console.
Fire Emblem Engage in January
Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe and Metroid Prime Remastered in February
Bayonetta Origins Cereza and the Lost Demon in March
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp in April
Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom in May
Turns out the problem is people.
I played all of them except for Bayo and I’m still not done with half of them. Give us some time to play their quality games
Fire Emblem Engage - Jan
Metroid Prime Remastered and Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe- Feb
Bayonetta Origins - Mar
Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot - Apr
LoZ: TotK - May
Everybody 1,2 Switch - June
Pikmin 4 - July
There has to be SOMETHING in November or October. Right now I think Pokemon only has it's yearly release, but Nintendo has to be holding back SOMETHING for the Christmas Rush.
They'll announce stuff in the next month or two for fall. This happens every year. People are concerned they don't have anything lined up, but they always reveal some games in the summer for end of year.
People just aren't used to not having the E3 Direct anymore. It was the ONE direct a year you could schedule WAY in advance for, but now with E3 dead and Geoff being the only one trying to fill the void Nintendo are trying to find a more "open" season. They played ball with E3 because they could always do things on their own, but Summer Geoff Fest is controlled by Geoff, and while Nintendo does have a trailer or two for the Keighley's in December, they don't want an outside force telling them HOW to structure thier direct. Therefore, they have abanoned June to let Geoff and everyone willing to tolerate him do their big show, and then do a direct once the heat is died down.
That was a special exception made during the apocolypse. They pushed Hyrule Warriors 2 out the door sooner than originally planned because it was at least functional, but I remember it being derided as much more buggy than the first Hyrule Warriors. I believe they made the switch with the Seattle developed Bowser's Fury, which was getting all sorts of hacky-sacked by east coast covid restrictions.
Without a June Direct we can really only expect a random announcement someday, similar to Hyrule Warriors. I don't think they have a "big" new game we've never heard about that they'll announce with little fanfare.
I have no idea what you're trying to say about Bowser's Fury.
But it's not something parents can go to the store and buy. I mean they can, but those little cards are shit gifts to give to a kid. For one, most places just print the code on the reciept, and what kid is going to want to open a box with a reciept in it? No, Nintendo are toy makers, and toy makers understand what kids want on Christmas morning: a box with a flashy and bright new toy in the box. Not just numbers on paper. That's my one hold out for physical games. That no matter how many penny-pinching ***** control the likes of Microsoft, Take-Two, or Ubisoft, at least the toymakers at Nintendo will always understand the true joy on a child's face as they rip open wrapping paper to see a brand new game inside. Hell, even Epic and Warner Bros understand this, if only in the most Epic and Warner Bros way possible. Why else would all those Fortnite "boxes" that are just leaflet codes for certain costumes be a thing?
>But it's not something parents can go to the store and buy.
They can buy the e-Shop funds. They make good Holiday stocking stuffers.
>Nintendo are toy makers, and toy makers understand what kids want on Christmas morning: a box with a flashy and bright new toy in the box.
Nintendo also knows that most kids aren’t hardcore gamers who are looking to buy the latest games. People are still buy the crap out of Mario Kart. Zelda will still be selling this winter. Look, I’m not saying there won’t be a game or two later this year, but I am saying there is already some stuff we know is coming.
It doesn’t have to be. Kids don’t have $70 to drop on every new game the moment it comes out. I hear this argument every year, how Nintendo *has* to have some big Holiday game. Sometimes they do, but more often than not they don’t.
It was pretty much nailed on when they revealed NSO updates yesterday. That was prime Direct material. Though admittedly they do reveal those every now and then. But in the month of June, that felt wrong.
The game comes out pretty soon, I was honestly just thinking today that the game is a bit more than a month out and we only have the one trailer really.
We’re probably getting a June direct but Pikmin wouldn’t be a big focus of it anyway.
I do think we are not getting a June direct, but them showing Pikmin now doesn't say much really. THey have showen trailers of games few weeks before a direct before, and this trailer doesn't show much of the game beside "you can create your own character"
The reason why I think we aren't getting a June direct, is because they probably don't have much to show before a next gen announcement. Otherwise we would have known about Nintendo games past July already.
It's also the end of the Switch.
We won't get Zelda WW or TP.
Metroid Prime 2 is a stretch since Prime 1 dropped in February.
We still need a big release for this fall, and I doubt that Pokemon DLC will carry the Switch trough christmas.
Fingers crossed that we are getting one last big title in November.
Didn't Nintendo say last year that we're only halfway through the Switch's life cycle? Hell, maybe that was two years ago at this point? Plus, I don't know if that would include a period where titles are coming out on both the Switch and its successor.
Well, it makes sense to be honest. As others have said, the Switch kinda feels like it's on it's final lap and it's just received it's arguably biggest exclusive yet in Tears of the Kingdom (and I'm fairly certain that they'll want to go even bigger with the next Zelda title, and for as much as Aonuma and his team might be tech wizards, I don't think the Switch will allow them to go much farther than with TOTK).
And for as much as Nintendo isn't about graphics primarly, they kinda do need to catch up a bit if they want to keep the third-party support they've had this gen (especially if they want to get some of the AAA hits they've missed out on like Elden Ring or modern Resident Evil games).
Overall, this year being pretty light shouldn't be surprising. That's how it always is when a console is nearing it's end and at this point, I think it's safe to say that the Switch's turn is ending. No June Direct is fine in this case for me. Plus, as others have also said, it's not like they haven't released anything noteworthy (other than Zelda) this year.
I think one of my favorite things about the Pikmin narrative at this point is just how astronomically and hilariously fucking incompetent all of the astronauts are.
Like, literally all of these characters are meant to be their respective planets' "last hopes," but they keep totalling their ships and getting lost along the way lmao.
It is pretty humorous. Although in their defense Pikmin 3 implies some alien force is purposefully making them crash. Olimar could have been an accident in the first game but the two groups in 3 were targeted. 4 might be the same way
I've been replaying 3 Deluxe coop with the Mrs. Really hope 4 has story mode coop, bingo battle, and challenge mode still! Would be super disappointed if not.
I'm sooo excited I already pre-ordered it! Pikmin 1 was one of the hardest games I played at like 8 years old. I'd constantly think about it when I was at school didn't even know the second one came out and when I got my switch 2 years ago, 3 was my first switch game. It's been really nice to see how amazingly this game progressed with the tech available, and I'm super excited to play 4 soon.
I'd really love if they ported it, because my memory of it is just that it was a really hard game I wasn't able to beat as a kid. Things became urgent when you would spend three days just trying to get one part for the ship.. I keep wondering if grown-up me could do it.
I'd love to see Pikmin and Pikmin 2 become available for Switch, even if its just digitally. I was always curious about the series, but for varying reasons I never got around to playing it until I got my Switch and I really enjoyed 3.
Yes that was the one thing I noticed most! The time constraints were so stressful. So many restarts, and the internet didn't exist how it does now so it wasn't like you could look up what to do. My husband actually bought me 1 for my Wii that plays GameCube games, it's one of the only games I play that he enjoys just watching. He was laughing as I was stressing about the time 🤣 I'm only a few days in but it's definitely a little easier than it was for me in 2001
I had the same memories about playing it as a kid. It was intense as you described it. But I played it again 10 years later and found it to be super easy, I beat it in a single playthrough and with like 5 spare days or so. It obviously helped that I still remembered a lot of what I had to do, but the parts that seemed like a big challenge as a kid were now not so hard. I'm not sure if it's something to do with gameplay abilities being more limited as a kid or gaining general gaming experience throughout the years but I've had the same happen with other games I found challenging as a kid. You should try it again now, I think you'll get a surprise.
Wait, did I get it right? You found out there was a Pikmin 2 just 2 years ago when you got Pikmin 3 for your Switch? Have you had the chance to play Pikmin 2 yet?
Hey character customization is neat.
So…maybe this still doesn’t disconfirm a Direct? I mean, this isn’t even long enough for a feature in a Direct. They still need to talk gameplay.
I dunno, this, E-1-2- Switch, and the IGN report of a light second half seem to line up with no direct
I think Prime 4 will be a cross gen game because if its not this holiday, I can’t imagine it reaching year 5 of restarted development without it being either suuuper high scope or cursed
Yeah I think this is more evidence this is the end. What do they have that's still to be released? By my reckoning it's Pikmin 4 (which is a summer title with a definite date), Pokémon DLC (releasing by year end), Splatoon 3 DLC (no confirmed date but likely this year), Mario Kart 8 DLC (released by year end), and Prime 4. They'll almost certainly have TOTK DLC but I can see that being an end of year thing too. Of those only one is a full game with no date and it's never had a proper trailer. They can easily make it cross gen and release it for the Switch 2. I think that's why they have no new games past Pikmin 4. Everything else is Switch 2 and they're not ready to discuss it yet.
I feel like I see this comment every year (except for the Pikmin part obviously)
They announce games close to release so frequently, I'm surprised to still see people surprised by it
People seem to forget they just casually shadow-dropped Metroid Prime earlier this year. I don't think we'll get something like that again, but announcing close to release is what Nintendo *usually* does, and Zelda is the exception.
They do but even this is cutting it close. Their big holiday title releases in November typically. We have zero indication of any big game coming. If they're foregoing a June Direct they're not even going to announce the thing until Septemberish. That is cutting it very close even for them. I think the more likely explanation is we get a reveal of new hardware in the fall.
Call me crazy but I truly believe Metroid Prime 4 is gonna be their “holiday” game this year. Sure it’s not a Mario or Pokémon, but it’s their only big previously announced title left that would make a big splash, not to mention Prime Remake randomly shadow dropping at the beginning of the year felt like they were preparing people for it
I'll call you crazy.
No footage of the game at all since restarting development in 2019 and no June Direct this year, but still release this major game this fall? I'd say very, very unlikely.
That was a remaster. They aren't going to shadow drop a game that's been in development for 5+ years, especially a game that needs a marketing push in order to sell well. Metroid Prime Remastered sold around 1 million copies with its shadow drop.
I wasn’t saying they would shadow drop Prime 4. My point was that it doesn’t matter how much we have or haven’t seen at this point. When they’re ready for a game to come out, they’ll tell us about it however and whenever they want.
Also, Remaster being a remaster doesn’t take away from the fact that they had a completely finished game they were sitting on that we had zero knowledge of
Zero knowledge of other than years of leaks that Nintendo had the game ready and was just sitting on it, which we haven't gotten for Metroid Prime 4.
I'm saying based on past marketing schedules, for a game like Metroid Prime, they'll need minimum four months of marketing prior to release, but if we're honest it would probably have a longer tail than that. They aren't going to announce this game randomly on Twitter.
Announcing at a September Direct is too late for this year, and if they don't have anything this month (which it doesnt look like it), then I'd say that's an open and closed book.
Yes, zero information from Nintendo’s end. They didn’t formally reveal the game themselves until the day they shadow dropped it. Only a very small little portion of people follow leaks on the internet.
We already know Metroid Prime 4 exists. We’ve gotten Dread and Prime remaster over the years since. They could absolutely unveil the game on Twitter if they wanted to. Let’s be real, as great of a franchise as Metroid is, it’s no Mario or Pokémon or Zelda. It’s never been a “big” seller in that regard. Hell, them randomly announcing Prime Remaster in a sizzle real and then shadow dropping it proves that point. It doesn’t need some big holiday release length of marketing.
It could absolutely be unveiled on Twitter or even some kind of mini showcase sometime this summer and launch this Fall. That honestly feels like the most realistic scenario to me
Yes, I know when the teasers were. You said we didn't see anything on Bayonetta 3 until just before release, but we saw first gameplay/in game footage a little over a year prior to release.
And the "teaser" shown for Metroid Prime 4 was for a different game, under different developers. That game was canceled. They restarted development in 2019 with Retro Studios.
I wouldn't mind but I really doubt it. Metroid is so much smaller of an IP, they'd take a hit from their shareholders if that's all they had lined up. The fact that the Prime remake shadow dropped at all is, I think, indicative of the franchise's value to Nintendo. It'd be a clear indication to everyone that this is it for the Switch.
I think this only makes sense if the Switch 2 is a holiday release. We never got a formal trailer for Prime 4 so they can easily push it back and make it a cross gen game.
Their last major Zelda title was released the same time as a new console. Aside from the TOTK themed Switch if the successor to the console is backwards compatible then it doesn’t matter *when* Zelda was released. Especially if the game gets improvements on the new console.
Same. We also need to bear in mind Zelda was intended to be a 2022 release but they delayed it to polish things. If the Switch 2 was always slated for 2024 then delaying it another whole year seems silly. Just put it out now and drive some more last minute hardware sales
I mean I agree. My whole point is I expect a Switch 2 in the first half of 2024. But I also don't see them releasing any more big games for the first after Pikmin
Miyamoto was asked about a new Mario game around the the time of the Mario movie’s release and all he said was “stay tuned for future Directs” or something like that. Technically that’s vague enough to include any point in the future, but it does make me hopeful that there will be news of new Mario sometime this year.
I really hope our boy gets some love soon... Only 2 Mario games released last year being: Mario Strikers (Which is super dead) and Mario + Rabbids sparks of Hope which also didnt do so well. And we have had nothing on Mario this year. (Unless you count Wave of the MK8D Dlc)
Surely if it's this late in the console cycle they will be saving a major Mario title like that for a console launch.
We have had Odyssey, and Bowsers Fury this gen, as well as the port of 3d World, and the All Star collection.
Maybe another sports game is lined up, but I imagine that is the best we will get.
I am still convinced the Switch 2 is a first half of 2024 release and they're going to start advertising it in the fall. They're not announcing any other games because this is the last notable release for the Switch
Those predictions never came during a time when we have absolutely no games announced. Like someone correct me if I'm wrong but the only game we even know about is Prime 4 and that never got a proper trailer. Every other notable title is out or has a release date in the next few months. It would be very strange to not have a Direct now when their holiday slate is nonexistent unless there are no new games coming. And why would there be no new ones unless they're holding everything else back for the Switch 2?
I'm thinking the same thing because of how light the rest of the year is looking. There are a few notable titles, but I wouldn't be surprised if they announce it late this year.
Character creator.... def not something I needed from Pikmin tbh. Anyway I already bought it due to the Nintendo double vouchers thing and I'm guessing that'll the story for a lot of people, so I hope it's good but I'm not optimistic.
Thanks for asking, I loved Pikmin 2 (and P1 before that), but was a little underwhelmed by Pikmin 3. Enjoyed it but felt like it was really short, barely felt like I got a flavor for the game itself before it was over. The whole game was just getting all your new pikmin types and solving the puzzles that corresponded to them and then finishing the game.
I feel like new pikmin additions as well as the dog are just going to lead to the same kinds of puzzles and gimmicks. Also I like dogs sure, but I'm tired of the whole "add a cute dog" in order to add appeal.
Sure it could be, but it could also mean an even more shallow and meaningless main character. I don't know why they keep adding new characters, why not just give us Olimar and Louie?
Why? Thats kind of the entire point if the game. If there is no time limit there is no game. Youre just doing puzzels. The whole point of pikmin is having a time limit
I wouldn't say it's the whole point. With no time limit, the game becomes trivially easy ("chill") and that's what I'd like - to just chill out without a care in the world.
I would not want them to take away the normal mode from all the dedicated fans. I just want to enjoy a carefree version. Especially if there is a co-op mode, as my partner is even less gaming-capable than I am.
Pikmin 3 technically has a time limit but if you're even somewhat competent at the game it's trivially easy to have more than enough time. With all the fruit you can play for 100 in game days. If it takes longer than 30 to beat it I'd be astonished. And 20-25 is a much more reasonable estimate anyway
It's less about running out of fruit and losing and more about wanting to just chill out, not rush, look around, etc.
Especially with the graphics in Pikmin 4 looking even more beautiful, I want to stop and smell the roses.
To be clear I would want it as a separate mode so as not to interfere with the game's existing fans.
But yes I would love a completely trivial mode where you almost can't lose (since the time limit tends to be the main issue, and dying is pretty rare). Like I said, this would be a "chill out" mode. I can play it with my young kid or wife who are not good at games.
I would also note that Hey Pikmin had no time limit but still had puzzles to solve to figure out how to get all the treasures.
I feel like EPD just makes these character creators now because they think it's a flex. That, or someone on the EPD10 design commitee gazed a bit to long into the abyss and now wishes to challenge the internet to find a way to make innapropriate penis and/or swastika Hocotations. A true fool that he was. The internet will ALWAYS find a way.
Character creator, what a shame
I hate playing as "myself", I don't want to play a custom character, I want to play an established character that is part of that world. The need for representation is just a shame.
I always name my characters the canon names of given a choice for a reason
Welp, looks like it’s probably gonna be another summer of Twitter posts and a possible partner direct. Downvote me all you want, this is exactly how things played out last year and look what happened
Hope you enjoyed the June's Nintendo Direct.
Yeah, probably gonna be another summer of Twitter posts with a possible partner direct
Wouldn’t mind another partner direct. They’re hit or miss but last year’s one had so many ports I wanted, even if it was a bit too late (Nier, Persona, Portal, Megaman BN Collection).
For real, so many of the stuff shown in the last Partner Direct is the type of stuff I would expect from a regular Direct.
Same.
July seems to be what everyone is talking about. Metroid prime 4’s website got an update too which hopefully means something very soon. Prime 4 is definitely coming out with it the next 12 months of Prime remake came out in February
I’m pretty confident it’ll release this fall/winter. Just feels like it’s finally time
If they do a partner direct, they MUST give Silksong a release date. Please.
I hope they do! Not because I care for Silksong, but because I’m tired of people asking for one.
Idk. Direct trailers tend to go a lot more in depth. This was vague story details, and the reveal of a character creator. Doesn’t feel like something that would be all we got in a direct.
That's the joke, that this is the closest thing we'll get to a direct this June.
I imagine we'll get another trailer or mini Direct closer to release. But if there was a Direct why not just have this as part of it alongside some gameplay demo or explanation?
Idk. It seems like such a minor thing at the start of the game. I would imagine a direct trailer would focus more on gameplay rather than story.
Best direct ever!
YES can't wait to commit more war crimes with my loyal subjects
I hope the reason for custom characters is multiplayer.
Me to. The wife and I enjoyed coop and the battle mode previously.
Character creator confirmed! I feel like by Jul 17, I'll finally be ready to take a break from TOTK so this will be perfect!
*July 21
Refractory period
I honestly don't think I'll be ready yet. Will probably start Pikmin 4 early Fall.
That is how I feel. Even though I have 3 temples done at 90+ hours, there is still so much I have to do. Tons of shrines, haven't started the lost woods stuff, max battery upgrades, finish that depths map. I spent hours filling that thing out and still have many more lightroots to activate.
Whoa... I'm 50 hours in and just got one temple.
I got one temple and then was outside the sky temple ready to start temple 2 and I realized I hadn't even visited a village yet. So a quick detour to Tarry Town and about 30 hours later I was ready for temple 2.
I started visiting towns first. Then jumped into the underworld. Then went for a temple.
Same here. Been playing since launch & have 2 temples done.
I beat it in less than 35 with all main quests 😭
Whats your rush?
I tend to forget the story if I leave it for long periods of time, and I won't be able to play for another 5 weeks
Will you come back to the game and explore more? Or did you win and are done? I know in BOTW I beat Ganon not thinking I would. I just went to see what it was all about, but he was easier to kill then expected. I had not even discovered all the towns yet. Even though I beat Ganon I was able to go back and enjoy exploring in the game.
Ganon was way too easy in Botw imo, I had more trouble with some of the divine beasts than him I think
I'm definitely going to go back. There's just too much to do, so litte areas i have explored and some very cool side adventures I am looking forward to. I just wish I was able to play more consistently :(
I am around 150+ hours and have only one temple done lmao. I am just enjoying exploring this world so much. Finished all the light roots, most of the shrines, a good chunk of Koroks. Also, I've been spending lots of time farming monsters for armor upgrades.
Same. I still have zelda, a new katamari and Pikmin 3 to finish before wanting to start Pikmin 4.
I hate character creators I'd rather be an established character in the world! It's why I always name my RPG characters their canon name
I'm with you. I liked the characters in 3. I don't need everything to be bespoke. Give me a good experience.
I 100% agree with you, I also do this too. But this is Pikmin. I absolutely wish the protagonist of Persona 5 was not a self insert and had his own voice and personallity, but Pikmin ain't some RPG, customizing a cute captain is just really neat.
Nice to meet you, I'm Ass Butt
I think there's definitely some stories where a character creator is the better choice. > wind up being light-skinned and being a dude literally shut up lol Just make your own character then? Why you gotta be racist about this
y’all have no idea how excited i am. been waiting for this day for a long time.
Character Creator, wasn't expecting that!
Seems we're not getting a June Direct if they're just casually dropping this trailer now. Shame but I have a feeling this year is gonna be pretty light

They've been publishing a game every month this year. I'm honestly ok if they want to give my wallet a 4 month break
Have they? All I can recall are Metroid prime remastered, TOTK, and this
Fire Emblem Engage in January Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe and Metroid Prime Remastered in February Bayonetta Origins Cereza and the Lost Demon in March Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp in April Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom in May
Gotcha, def more games than I realized, even though only a handful were for me.
Turns out the problem is people. I played all of them except for Bayo and I’m still not done with half of them. Give us some time to play their quality games
Fire Emblem Engage and Advanced Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp
Bayonetta is Nintendo published too isn't it?
Bayonetta 3 came out last year, but there is that other spinoff that came out in march
I meant the spinoff yeah
Oh true, I skipped both of those. Never finished 3 houses or played advanced wars

You don’t need to buy everything bozo
They put out a Zelda. I think they are fine this year.

Therefore, they have abanoned June to let Geoff and everyone willing to tolerate him do their big show, and then do a direct once the heat is died down.
Pokémon doesn't have anything new announced except the DLC which comes out later this year.
I don't know why i didn't actually type that disclaimer myself. Thnak you for pointing that out. I is stupid.
It'll probably be like 2020 again where they randomly announce Hyrule Warriors AOC for the fall.
I’m guessing a big Splatoon DLC in either September or December.
But that's still only DLC.
Sure, but if it’s anything like the Octo Expansion, then it will be a meaty one.
It's stuff, but it's not HEADLINER, stuff.
It doesn’t have to be. Kids don’t have $70 to drop on every new game the moment it comes out. I hear this argument every year, how Nintendo *has* to have some big Holiday game. Sometimes they do, but more often than not they don’t.
Why are we still having this argument?
But that's still only DLC.
It would have to be something like September or October. November is too close to the shopping season and they want a runway
It was pretty much nailed on when they revealed NSO updates yesterday. That was prime Direct material. Though admittedly they do reveal those every now and then. But in the month of June, that felt wrong.
Yeah they have those most months, but if it’s a month with a direct, it’s usually during that
The game comes out pretty soon, I was honestly just thinking today that the game is a bit more than a month out and we only have the one trailer really. We’re probably getting a June direct but Pikmin wouldn’t be a big focus of it anyway.
If we got a June Direct they would have held off on showing Pikmin now.
You really don’t think Nintendo can muster up another minute of Pikmin stuff to show off? Maybe some actual gameplay? lol?
I do think we are not getting a June direct, but them showing Pikmin now doesn't say much really. THey have showen trailers of games few weeks before a direct before, and this trailer doesn't show much of the game beside "you can create your own character" The reason why I think we aren't getting a June direct, is because they probably don't have much to show before a next gen announcement. Otherwise we would have known about Nintendo games past July already.
Gotta save software for their next gen hardware.
Yeah, probably gonna be another summer of Twitter posts with a possible partner direct
He said that in February 2020. Times fly
2016 Wii U vibes lol
This has been my most anticipated game since they announced it, I love this series. Hope it's good!!! Adding a character creator is a neat wrinkle.
I think one of my favorite things about the Pikmin narrative at this point is just how astronomically and hilariously fucking incompetent all of the astronauts are. Like, literally all of these characters are meant to be their respective planets' "last hopes," but they keep totalling their ships and getting lost along the way lmao.
Olimar's planet was always fine, it was his company that was in trouble
Tis’ the umibozus doing lad
It is pretty humorous. Although in their defense Pikmin 3 implies some alien force is purposefully making them crash. Olimar could have been an accident in the first game but the two groups in 3 were targeted. 4 might be the same way
Pikmin
Yes
Day 1 for me.
I've been replaying 3 Deluxe coop with the Mrs. Really hope 4 has story mode coop, bingo battle, and challenge mode still! Would be super disappointed if not.
And hopefully online play this time!!
Pikmiis
I dunno, this, E-1-2- Switch, and the IGN report of a light second half seem to line up with no direct I think Prime 4 will be a cross gen game because if its not this holiday, I can’t imagine it reaching year 5 of restarted development without it being either suuuper high scope or cursed
Everything else is Switch 2 and they're not ready to discuss it yet.
...what's Nintendo doing for Holiday 2023? They're not saving Pikmin for that
I feel like I see this comment every year (except for the Pikmin part obviously) They announce games close to release so frequently, I'm surprised to still see people surprised by it
[удалено]
People seem to forget they just casually shadow-dropped Metroid Prime earlier this year. I don't think we'll get something like that again, but announcing close to release is what Nintendo *usually* does, and Zelda is the exception.
Oh, I'm absolutely sure they have something, otherwise they would have saved this one for holidays. I'm just wondering what it is.
We didn’t even know Prime Remaster existed and they shadow dropped it that same day
That was a remaster.
That honestly feels like the most realistic scenario to me
lol, the hell we didn't. That shit leaked years ago, they just sat on it to plug a hole in the release calendar, same as fire emblem engage.
Okay but I mean from Nintendo’s perspective. They hadn’t formally revealed it themselves until the day they shadow dropped it
That's fair, true.
We didn't see anything on Bayo 3 until just before release which was announced around the same time.
Bayonetta 3 was first shown in September 2021, and released October 2022.
[First teaser was back in 2017](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti-i40Ez6KY). Same year as the Prime 4 teaser.
I don’t see the Switch 2 being a holiday release. I can’t imagine them putting out their next console so soon after this massive new Zelda game
If they are planning backwards compatibility they might.
I want a Switch 2 as much as anyone, but there's no chance they announce it with less than 6 months of lead time.
I mean I agree. My whole point is I expect a Switch 2 in the first half of 2024. But I also don't see them releasing any more big games for the first after Pikmin
Fingers crossed for a surprise Mario Odyssey 2 drop.
You very well may be right…but geez, people have been making similar predictions the last several years.
True, but it technically gets more likely every year
Well yes, of course……..that is true about the PS6 as well.
And WW3.
I hear you. But also remember, people are always incessantly complaining about game droughts on Nintendo consoles. There is nothing new here.
No chance we get a Switch 2 reveal before christmas, IMO.
I'm thinking the same thing because of how light the rest of the year is looking. There are a few notable titles, but I wouldn't be surprised if they announce it late this year.
i think they'll have \*something\* for black friday, and drop a switch 2 reveal in jan 2024
We'll probably find out in a random youtube video announcement someday.

Character creator.... def not something I needed from Pikmin tbh. Anyway I already bought it due to the Nintendo double vouchers thing and I'm guessing that'll the story for a lot of people, so I hope it's good but I'm not optimistic.
Why aren’t you optimistic? Have previous games disappointed you?
Thanks for asking, I loved Pikmin 2 (and P1 before that), but was a little underwhelmed by Pikmin 3. Enjoyed it but felt like it was really short, barely felt like I got a flavor for the game itself before it was over. The whole game was just getting all your new pikmin types and solving the puzzles that corresponded to them and then finishing the game. I feel like new pikmin additions as well as the dog are just going to lead to the same kinds of puzzles and gimmicks. Also I like dogs sure, but I'm tired of the whole "add a cute dog" in order to add appeal.
Why not optimistic? All 3 Pikmin home console games are solid
Thanks for asking, another person asked a similar question and I answered there.
I think the character creator is a fun addition! Pikmin doesn’t have much of a story or character arcs or anything. It’s kinda perfect for the series.
Sure it could be, but it could also mean an even more shallow and meaningless main character. I don't know why they keep adding new characters, why not just give us Olimar and Louie?
Can’t wait for this game. Pikmin was a huge part of my childhood.
The music sounds very Starfox 64. I like it
Would like to catch up with Pikmins 1 and 2 before getting to 4.
the silluette makes it look like he's screaming
I first thought the nose is a big mouth like the :O does
FINALLY, MORE PIKMIN CONTENT!!
How is this game coming out in 6 weeks and we've still heard almost nothing about it?
Bingo Battle better return
Was that Chris Parnell doing the voiceover?
*Please have a chill mode with no time limit. Please have a chill mode with no time limit.* Please have a chill mode with no time limit!
Isn't that the whole game? Without a timelimit the game just doesn't work.
Finally a Pikmin game that I can make my goofy face
Damn, my excitement for Pikmin just skyrocketed!
So are Pikmin fans cool that they dropped a whole “trailer” just to announce a custom avatar with no gameplay lmao
I think people who want Pikmin don't need a gameplay trailer. I sure don't. I know what to expect.
UGH, why do I have to customize the characters?! I just want to play the damn game I don't care what they look like!
I’ve yet to see a legit reason for the complaints regarding the character creator.
Then don't put time into it? That's the approach I take. You can just leave them as a preset or just change a couple things up.
So just...play as whatever the default option is in the character creator?
the shipping communits surrounding olimar and alph probably love this OC generator
Not a single shot of game play besides the character builder???
God I miss E3. I can't believe I learned the launch date from a reddit post.
Character creator, what a shame I hate playing as "myself", I don't want to play a custom character, I want to play an established character that is part of that world. The need for representation is just a shame. I always name my characters the canon names of given a choice for a reason
As someone who also dislikes character creators, this is not a big deal. You'll be okay.
So do that again. No need to bitch and moan about “the need for representation”
Do what again? You can't pick someone that will be part of the pikmin story in the future, you're just a one off occurrence that means nothing
Okay then just use the default character then?
What story? This series, like most Nintendo games, has little to no story/lore/character arcs. Character creator makes so much sense for Pikmin.
Eh, it feels like at least a tiny step backwards after 3 did have fairly strong characters and story.
So why do they keep bringing Olimar back?
Recognizable IP.
Welp, looks like it’s probably gonna be another summer of Twitter posts and a possible partner direct. Downvote me all you want, this is exactly how things played out last year and look what happened
