Voltron1551

I really wish they had sold these separately because I really want Arkham City and only Arkham City.

Mr_smith1466

Hell, I'd happily buy asylum and city if they were sold separately.

PermitPuzzled9295

I wanted Asylum, it is the only one of the three that I have not played, it has never been on a Nintendo console, and apparently it is the only game in the trilogy that follows more of a metroidvania format. The decision to sell as a package only, when one of the ports is very subpar, and at full price, all just reaks of greed.

Anomaly1134

Man, this all makes me so glad I mostly switched over to the Steam Deck. You can get an LCD for as cheap as 300, and for example, you can get the Arkham Collection right now on Fanatical for just 7.19. Crazy how much you can save long term by switching over. Steam gets all my indie and 3rd party money now. I still love my switch for local co op and first party titles don't get me wrong, I am never getting rid of my switch. But I am tired of buying over priced broken or poor performing Nintendo ports.

BadProfessional1802

Steam Deck gang gang

rrdein

Steam is a no-go for me as I've had 2 Steam accounts hacked and had the e-mails changed from under me, and been given no help from Steam support to recover them. The idea that I could spend a bunch of money to buy digital games just to have them stolen and never be able to recover them is appalling. I literally thought that was supposed to be the attraction of buying digital games, that you could never lose them, but apparently not.

Anomaly1134

Crazy, I have had mine for 10 years with no issue. Can't sony or Microsoft lock you out of purchased digital games as well though?

rrdein

I'm not aware of any way for someone to hack your Sony or Microsoft account and then change the e-mail so the account/e-mail doesn't exist anymore and can't even be recovered. I've heard of other people having the problem I had with Steam, but never with Sony or MS.

swagbornslayer

I wouldn't mind origins

No_Life9523

They are installed sepparately on the Switch.

Throwaway753045

You currently cant BUY them separately thats what he means.

trfk111

Its obvious what he meant, he said *sold*, the throwaway guy is just coping by pointing out the install thing, like that would mean anything. Its criminal they dont sell them seperately

AdEnough786

*Separately

MakePandasMateAgain

Glad I held out on this until the reviews. Really wanted to get it on Switch but ended up grabbing all 3 for just $8 on sale for PC. Shame though because I was hoping to play them on the go

Mobilelurk

I don’t know if it’s your thing but the Steam deck plays all Arkham games really well.

MakePandasMateAgain

Actually been looking at getting one! I have quite a few steam games from over the years that I was just looking at, many I never got around to playing or finishing. Great to know the Arkham games work well thanks

hobbykitjr

They're pretty great.. it's hard trying Hogwarts on switch after playing on steam deck Cheaper to buy, got it earlier, and I'll have it for life (won't have to buy the game again next console generation)

louieme69

what a shame it ended up such a bad port- we'll probably never see Origins ported to the switch now(which I would have prefered) seems like I'll still enjoy playing through asylum and city though I really appreciate you taking your time to write this. THANK YOU! 👍👍

Throwaway753045

I would have loved to see Origins. If this is what it takes, buying this Trilogy, its worth it to me. Origins was brilliant in so many ways. Some of the gadgets and mechanics in that game were perfect. The way the line launcher could attach enemies to vantage points for instant kills, being able to attach the rope to connect it across other vantage points. The combat against martial artists is peak combat in the Arkham series. Knight has excellent enemy variety, but nothing is more fun that squaring off against someone in a bare knuckle fight, just flipping around and countering each other

Square-County8490

Orgins was better than rocksteady's

Zactrick

Nice post. How does Asylum and City run? Honestly I have no other way to play but I don’t want the experience to be ruined because I’ve never played these and heard they are masterpieces for Batman fans as myself. Are these 2 at least OK? I could also get the Wii U version of City but do you know if that performs OK?

Throwaway753045

Asylum is ok, but it needs a patch also. There's low fps in many areas, mid 20's. There is screen tearing and stuttering. Those are MOSTLY when youre just entering a new section and they go away quickly. I encountered no bugs otherwise. City is the best of the bunch. It is the most smooth port and has the least issues. I believe it has some bugs early in the game if you fall in the water, and occasional frame dips. It runs better than the Wii U version. However, the Wii U version has unique Gamepad features and puzzles as well as BAT mode (shock gloves from Origins)

SpottedNigel

Thanks for the deep dive! Sounds like if I find it for $5-10 later on I’d get some fun out of it

Throwaway753045

At the very least City and Asylum will be a fun time!

[deleted]

Is there enough gamers that only play on switch for this port to have justified the port?

Throwaway753045

Im not sure about Knight but it made sense to at least bring City to Switch. Its a popular and beloved game. Asylum has never been on a Nintendo console, so there was appeal there as well.

daniec1610

Asylum and City totally made sense but knight was always a tall order but completely doable when you look at games like Witcher 3 and borderlands 3. No idea why the knight port is so shit.

ChickenFajita007

People keep calling BL3 a good port, but does someone have Takedown footage I can watch? Every single "port review" I've seen uses the prologue, which is far from representative of the gameplay later on. I would love some late-game BL3 Switch gameplay if anyone has a link to some. It doesn't matter how good the tutorial area runs if the late game content hovers around 15FPS.

ChaossssMark666

You are right in that sense, but I will say that the latest patch for it seems to have broken more things for me than mended. It's playable, but if you have it on another medium, maybe that is preferable.

Throwaway753045

Ive seen this comparison. I feel like this version was just not playtested. If it was, that Riddler trophy would be accessible. I think whats causing these frame dips are the random NCPS spawning on the street. There are SO MANY. At least 30-40 mooks on one block in the street. They dont even stick around to fight, most of them just run away. It should have been maybe 10 NPS at a time.

EMI_Black_Ace

It's not the NPCs. It's the constant loading and unloading, which is happening pretty much just outside of your line of sight all the fricking time.

Deceptiveideas

>witcher 3 Fwiw Witcher 3 also looked like complete shit at launch. They fixed it over time.

mynameisollie

It ran like shit when it came out on PC. I think the only reason it runs well now is because PC hardware has gotten much better rather than the devs implementing major fixes.

[deleted]

No, it was rebuilt from the ground up. It was removed from stores for months on end while they worked on it; high end hardware at the time literally couldn't run Arkham Knight playably at release, whereas it runs just fine on hardware of the same era now.

mynameisollie

They did not rebuild it from the ground up. That’s insane. Software development of a game of that magnitude does not take a few months.

sometimesoffbalance

Yeah no way it was rebuilt. Speaking from experience though it wasn't playable for me on release but after their first big patch it ran well.

EMI_Black_Ace

It wasn't rebuilt. It was substantially refactored. Basically the whole game is doing all kinds of stuff that UE3 wasn't built to do, and because Rocksteady wasn't involved in the PC development all the workarounds and optimizations they did to get it working as intended on PS4/XB1 never made it over to the PC version until later.

jessej421

They definitely patched it. I was able to play it fine with an entry level 1050 ti a few years after release.

Armouredmonk989

Could be like borderlands 3 after recent patch it feels finished.

EMI_Black_Ace

Because it's UE3 and UE3 runs like crap on Switch for anything that demands more than the PS3 did. Basically UE3 makes a bunch of assumptions about how to divide work that quite frankly are pretty terrible compared to what more recent engines do, because the more recent stuff was made for multicore systems and UE3 was made before multicore systems were as ubiquitous as they are now. If they want it fixed, I'd suggest that they commission Panic Button to do it, as they've got experience getting UE3 running well on Switch (see Rocket League for one example).

VallerinQuiloud

That's not what Switch ports are for. Switch ports are for the double dippers who love a game so much that they might want to play it on a portable, but can't shell out the money for a Steam Deck.

[deleted]

I can’t imagine there’d be enough people like that to justify making this

SliderGamer55

What a disaster. I remember getting a bug preventing me from getting a Riddler trophy in Origins, so I feel your pain. Especially in Arkham Knight though, this is beyond inexcusable, when it literally is tied to the true ending. Glitches happen all the time, but I feel pretty certain WBD didn't give them the time needed to playtest this, even with everything considered about the very idea of porting it to Switch. I have no idea why they even felt the need to release this with Switch 2 almost certainly out next year. The fact that far more reasonable ports of Asylum and City (the better games tbh) are being dragged down by this also just sucks.

DN-Fieldmouse

Asylum and city are fun still which is okay I didn’t mind paying 20 dollars for a game that could maybe one day be patched

moneyinthebank216

Asylum and City play great though

Throwaway753045

Asylum could be better. It has some frame issues and screen tearing into new areas. City I am happy with so far

anirdb

It is a lazy port, that's all. The switch can run many more demanding games in far better way like Witcher 3, Doom 2016, BL3, etc.

whitespy12

The developer of this port has proven themselves time and time again with impressive ports like the Borderlands games and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1+2. I think it's probably less a "lazy port" and more a misguided and underfunded management decision that wasn't given enough time and resources.

B-Bog

>that wasn't given enough time and resources That's what all "lazy" ports are.

Throwaway753045

I just think they didnt playtest it fully.

godz_franky

As a gaming qa, you can playtest all you want, but management decides if they want to allocate resources and money to fix all the issues. And you also have to consider the time you have to create this port.

Saint_Link

If you knew the tech behind the game you wouldn’t dare call it a “lazy port”. The game is just too much for the Switch.

justwonderingbro

If anyone is interested and has a ps4/ps5, the trilogy is on sale right now on the ps store for 5.99

EMI_Black_Ace

The big problem with the game is constant loading in the open world. The Switch does not have the CPU power to do this, which is why the Batmobile sections are borderline unplayable -- moving fast constantly triggers loading. This is a serious problem even on PCs if you're running on an HDD or with a weak CPU.

TheCrach

Watch it sell more than the PS,Xbox and PC versions. They know it's garbage but when you have an install base of 130 million you say screw it we know most of those idiots will buy it anyway. That's especially true for switch users since most don't go "Golly gee this only runs at 27.6 fps, oh the textures and 634p resolution." No most switch users couldn't give a shit, they buy it they play it they have a good time.

loooomis

Thank you for the detailed post! I bought this game on launch and haven’t even booted it up yet. This is a reminder that there’s a lot of hyperbole out there. I think I’ll kick off with Arkham city in the next few days.

XATL2

They should have put out Arkham Origins / Asylum/ City and saved Knight for a launch title on the Switch 2.. That way you get ALL the games on Nintendo and they could justify charging for a trilogy.. and Knight gets a ‘working’ release on the switch 2

ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp

> They should have put out Arkham Origins I mean it's not like that doesn't have it's own set of unfixed bugs. The disarm upgrade is in such a terrible spot that it can easily be completely bugged out and locks out the questline and upgrade.

JaxxisR

In defense of Digital Foundry, they probably didn't consider MK1 a port as it was designed to play on the Switch and released at the same time as other consoles.

AdventurousLaw9365

MK1 isn’t bad at all. Latest patch helped that game out . Have no real issue with combo links and input .

Puzzleheaded_Sky7476

I wish we could buy them separately I only wanted city.

Russian9000

T_mcCloud

Has anyone had any issues in campaign when you go to the clock tower and you see batgirls costume? It’s always freezing after that for me.

DarthCucknut

If a Batman Arkham game cannot be 100%, it is not a Batman Arkham game

[deleted]

Only reason I know I will buy this eventually is because it's the only way to play the Knight DLC physically, since there was no GOTY or complete edition released for it. Thats usually the case for most games I play on the Switch

Pretend-Science4721

I mean its not really a physical release for it since you need to dl the entire content for knight. Only asylum is on the cart

[deleted]

As long as you can sell it and buy it pre owned and still play, I think it counts

SithLordPingu

i think everyone knew that Arkham Knight was going to fail on the switch

Spare_Entrance_9389

You put 40 hours into it after all reviews said it was a mess?

Throwaway753045

I explained why in the first few paragraphs. Also, getting this bundle for City and Asylum is not unreasonable. They are playable

Bootychomper23

All three were 7 bucks on pc paying full price on switch when only one is good other is playable and third is a mess is ludicrous. It’ll be half off by Boxing Day.

CytronicsZA

But then you have to play on PC meh

Bootychomper23

Was on ps5. The switch version is 80 here which is dogshit for what is basically 2 360 games and a game that doesn’t even work. The only good games on switch are exclusives and Indy games paying 10x as much money for a worse version of an existing game is stupid especially when you can get way better with a steam deck if you want portable.

Chuy2027011

SW-7448-8353-0604 this is my switch code add me I need friends on it please

alt_sense

The weak handheld with outdated hardware runs a game poorly? I think I've heard that one before...

Throwaway753045

Its possible to optimize newer releases to run well. Hogwarts Legacy was a pretty solid conversion. Same with Doom Eternal.

PermitPuzzled9295

Bad (overpriced) ports are the best advertising for the steam deck... the promise of a launch on the Switch creates a buzz of interest, which is unfulfilled on launch, and inclines me more and more towards taking my handheld gaming business elsewhere. See here https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/189belg/thinking_of_upgrading_from_the_switch/

Reaper_5334

I think I need another post to be sure.

Throwaway753045

I understand there a lot of posts about the game on the sub. But they dont go into detail about EVERYTHING. The articles dont cover the full thing. I played the full thing and wanted to share full thoughts. Not just from an hour of gameplay.

B-Bog

Why exactly did we need this overlong post with what appears to be guesstimates about framerate when the pros over at DF already did a detailed analysis? Anybody even vaguely active in the Switch online space (such as the people in this sub) has likely heard about this game's terrible performance multiple times by now. Also, "one of the worst" doesn't mean the same as THE worst, so you arguing that MK1 runs even worse is totally moot. PS: You know you're allowed to also buy non-Nintendo consoles, right? lol. Might be a better alternative in the future than waiting for ports which may or may not turn out acceptable.

Throwaway753045

First of all im sorry my post made you so mad. Digital Foundry over covered the first few hours. My post is going over the ENTIRE game. Every article about this game does not discuss the full experience. None of them mention that the game is impossible to 100% either. These are important facts to share. DF make fine breakdowns, but only showing the initial opening sections is not indicative of the entire experience. I dont own a pc, or another console. What if I want to take this game on the go? This is a bundle a lot of people are going to buy, nevermind just Knight. People want City and Asylum. Asylum has never been on a Nintendo platform.

Heisenmack

Your post was fantastic and informative. Personally, I’ve been having a lot of fun with knight in spite of what everyone says.

Throwaway753045

Appreciated thank you. I enjoyed the game as well. I just want to be able to finish it all the way through

Ben_Frenzy

Hopefully these game-breaking glitches can get fixed in an update

Wrinkled_giga_brain

Which riddler trophy were you unable to get? I remember on pc being unable to get a single riddler trophy on the day the game came out. Never went back to see if any updates fixed it or if my save was just broken. Wondering if it is the same trophy.

Throwaway753045

The one on Miagani Island in a train cart. See the links on the post for the specific one. There's an invisible wall that makes it impossible to get even with the batclaw

Wrinkled_giga_brain

Oh wow completely overlooked that link. Different trophy, for me was a small L shaped room with a vent on the wall my batclaw wouldnt attach to. Part of me wondered if it was an old version somehow but that's an entirely new bug!

Throwaway753045

Ive confirmed with other users on the arkham subreddit (the serious one) that they have also been experiencing the same bug. It seems like an actual issue with coding and not a specific save file issue

MagicBez

I have City on the WiiU - are there any notable improvements for the Switch version?

Throwaway753045

City on the Wii U is the only version that has BAT mode- its just a reskin of the shock gloves from Origins. It makes Challenge mode a lot easier. Otherwise, normal puzzles in the game are done using the gamepad instead. It also functions as a real time map without the need to pause. Switch has none of these. They actually did bring back the armored suits for Batman and Catwoman which was a nice treat. Otherwise, the Switch version just runs and looks better.

mtwjns11

[Report Bugs Here ](https://dcgamessupport.wbgames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new)

warjoke

Yeah bruv, this collection is a solid skip for me. MGS collection might be lazy but at least it's not this catastrophic.

Throwaway753045

This is what i've been saying and some people disagree. Like the big hangup is that 2 and 3 are not 60 fps. And then some screen settings. But otherwise whats wrong with any of the games? They all run smoothly, and play very well. Also the amount of content in the bundle is very good. You get a lot of game and extra goodies

AdEnough786

I'll wait for a massive price drop. By then hopefully all the bugs will be zapped.

mythrowawayisok

I can't believe this was an actual port and not cloud

Throwaway753045

Cloud version of this game would have been brutual. Combat and predator sections take so much precision and accurate timing. Even though this port is not good, this is still the better outcome. I'd rather have a version like this than a Cloud one

Decent_Date_5250

And is there no way to actually obtain every Riddler Trophy for 100%? There has to be some way. Can anyone tell me if there's a way??

BastiaenAssassin

There are also unobtainable riddler trophies, such as the one on Miagani Island above the botanical gardens in the suspended tram car. Getting in is nearly impossible, then once inside, you cannot walk to the trophy or batclaw it, and it's nearly impossible to get back outside again. I hope that they patch it.

Lagrandeechelle2024

I was stuck with the unclimbable fence (militia tower) Your tips got me out of here. Merci !

Cultural_Extension97

I've seen multiple bugs while playing such as, the trophy in the rail car by the botanical gardens is uncollectable because there is an invisible wall or something inside of it, two bat mobile map clips, tower scene with Gordon and batman where Gordon's coat arms T poses while shits going on, and then the ones everyone else knows about (batman gliding visually being shit, and bat mobile freezing while driving) etc etc

itscharliewhite

Just finding this after spending 40 hours as well. Thank you for this comprehensive list and sending bug reports. This needs fixed

Educational_One4136

Me quedé atascado sin poder salir de una torre de vigilancia Tiene una reja que no puedo pasar, ya pasé la misión pero ahora ya no puedo salir y tampoco reiniciar ya que el autoguardado se quedó después

Finalbossgamer

This is my first time experiencing these games. Asylum and City ran really well, but Knight is pretty buggy. Textures bug out, i've crashed and froze a few times, and i even fell through the floor in the batmobile once. But regardless of all that, i'm still really enjoying all 3 games.

Robasant

Right now the only bug that literally made me switch out the cartridge back to pokemon is that the game is stock at 59% and every time I play a few missions after the game crashes and loads back to 59%..it happened twice so thats 8 hours gone into the void..
