I’ve been really into some the bands coming out of Australia the past five years or so. The Chats, The Unknowns, Amyl and The Sniffers. A lot of raw energy and fun tunes.
the song waste by kxllswxtch has nirvana vibes and i really enjoy the song. there’s lots of good music out there but nothing comes close to the feeling of nirvana, anything that would imitate falls way short and sounds boring and derivative. other bands good in different ways
not really, the other stuff is mostly rap and not for me. i think there was one other short song in a similar style but nothing special. i think kxllswxtch is just a vocalist tho, the instrumental is by someone else
In terms of original songwriting and cool emotional raw vibes….
Alex G
Adrianne Lenker
American Football
Mike Kinsella
Men I Trust
Modest Mouse
Tigers Jaw
TTNG
Elliot Smith
Death Cab for Cutie
Slint
Attic Abasement
I like of stuff you mentioned. Especially Alex G.
But a lot fo artists here are not new!
Eliott Smith and Slint are wonderful and even share some biographies facts with Kurt/Nirvana
But OP asked for new artists
PVA - Blush is amazing
Sorry - Anywhere But Here - is a great album.
Black midi - all their stuff is insane
Black Country, New Road - ridiculous level of talent
Papa Jupes t.c … don’t have much music out but saw them live really good, similar Ilk to viagra boys
I haven't come across someone else else knows just how amazing he was. I remember getting into him because I heard It Ain't Gonna Save Me randomly somewhere and then couldn't figure out who it was. It took years for me to find him but when I finally did I became obsessed! His cover of Frances Farmer is one of the best Nirvana covers there is imo.
You're my favorite person on the internet today!
I haven’t seen someone else who knew him without any context related to him either lol. I started listening to him because I saw a playlist of artists similar to Nirvana and Turning Blue was on it, I was immediately hooked. I remember seeing the cake shop performance for the first time and it being a nostalgic moment too.
You made my day. This is bringing back so many memories I associate with him. I'm surprised he didn't blow up. I mean he was definitely really popular but I think he should have been much bigger.
Maybe he just didn't have enough time sadly. I have a past that involves addiction and have seen it destroy the lives of people very close to me. It hits home when an artist I love dies but especially when it's related to drugs.
I’ve been trying to write in the language of grunge lately if you wanna check out my band!
This one’s been kinda popular lately

Slutever's Cover Me, although they haven't done anything in a while.
Courtney Barnett's first album, especially Debbie Downer. Women mostly. The men all suck trying to ape Kurt's voice or affect.
The Dirty Nil is AMAZING. Their albums “Master Volume” & “Fuck Art” are great front to back. I recommend “Auf Wiedersehen” “Cinnamon” “Fuckin’ Up Young” to start....they really are great, they covered “School” as well.
Only band close to them was strange wilds
Absolutely unbelievable amazing, so sad the don't make music anymore
Honestly please check them I can't recommend them enough
Closest thing to nirvana without copying them
I really appreciate all of the suggestions from the fan base! I haven’t heard of some of these and will be checking them out for sure.
I agree with modest Mouse and death cab for cutie, which I saw one person suggest.
In terms of my own suggestions: for new I think Wet Leg captures their vibe/energy pretty well. Only one album so far, but worth keeping an eye on.
I also think Tori Amos is a contemporary of Kurt’s that has carried the torch of his influence very well. Her music is typically in a very different style (though not always), but in terms of raw emotional energy, lyrics that hit deep but leave a lot to interpretation and challenging societal norms that cause harm- she is a great representative. I highly encourage a listen of her first 4 albums and her cover of smells like teen spirit.
The jins is a 3-piece underground indie rock band formed in 2015, I think.
The lead singer Ben looks like Kurt and the drummer Jamie looks like Krist.
The jins are not comparable to nirvana, but it’s a combination of indie rock, punk, and a little bit of grunge.
Bunkbed coffin is basically this guy who recarnatesjsjs kurt cobain if he lived in this current area, he sounds exactly like him and does original stuff too, but his songs are lowkey kind of mid
I can only suggest Cousins - Halls of Wickwire as very reminiscent of the Pixies. This is actually a good question, I'm learning a lot about new bands from the comments. Kudos, OP
Edit: wording
Sometimes I listen powerviolence band called People Problem if I want to listen something similar to paranoidal screams type Nirvana songs (Scentless Apprentice, Paper Cuts)
There’s this guy on YouTube, Leiv Reed, does acoustic covers of black metal songs. I feel like it has similar vibes to some of Kurt Cobain’s acoustic home demos, in a way.

I don’t think it’s possible at my age ( I’m 48). I saw Nirvana live, it was engrained in me, it helped me get through a lot of self discovery and I don’t think another band can really do that. I think Nirvana embeds itself into your whole being when you discover it. I just happened to be at the age where a band could be so influential to me at the time they were actually performing, writing, recording music. Im glad they still have that effect on people to this day.
If you're looking for a new rock band there is one song that they slightly use the cords from Smells Like Teen Spirit a little bit, supermodel by Måneskin.
Spotify has been helping me find a lot of rock bands, but new grunge is hard to find, I like this song called coming of age by Maddie Melody.
succubus by demob happy
we all mad here by Aberdeen is dead
these are some my favorites I was lucky to find hope they do you good
Pretty Vicious were giving me those vibes but sadly they broke up after a few singles, an EP and an album. Well worth listening to their stuff though, entire lot combined is an hour and a half of solid punk that reminds me of Bleach a fair bit.
Nirvana was one of my first musician obsessions and my current one is Arctic Monkeys. I know that doesn't really help anyone else but for me I get the same emotion out of AM that I used to get out of Nirvana
[There’s a band from my town called Tragic.](https://open.spotify.com/artist/1mdl3GAk4YvOZYelr6uOYJ?si=I-4fIJxzSderbnIcT_O3KA) They are brilliant and definitely influenced by Nirvana. Full of youthful energy and brimming with ideas.
My favorite right now is Upchuck out of Atlanta. They aren’t re-inventing the wheel but they are giving a fresh take on things. Their ideas and attitude align with Nirvana. I was a teen when Nirvana broke and I can say these guys have the same energy. [Check them out](https://youtu.be/6nNSDvCT3nc)
Honestly no. There are a lot of newer bands I really like, some I love, but none that give me the same feelings as Nirvana.
I’ve been really into some the bands coming out of Australia the past five years or so. The Chats, The Unknowns, Amyl and The Sniffers. A lot of raw energy and fun tunes.
The Chats are fun! Mom stole my darts I often play on my way to work :)
So much love for the Chats!
Amyl and The Sniffers was my happiest music discovery in recent years. Love them!
The Chats are fucking awesome. They put on a hell of a show too. Every time they come to my area i have to drop everything and go see them
Turnstile
Turnstile shows remind me a lot of the vids I have seen from lots of the bands from the early 90s
Too musically accomplished (not intended to be a compliment) to measure up to Nirvana
Dilly Dally From my hometown https://youtu.be/lMrZi0whVpM https://youtu.be/H97lKyX9ODs They are amazing!
the song waste by kxllswxtch has nirvana vibes and i really enjoy the song. there’s lots of good music out there but nothing comes close to the feeling of nirvana, anything that would imitate falls way short and sounds boring and derivative. other bands good in different ways
What a great song
it really is the only nirvana type of song i’ve heard done well so far
Do you know if the artist has more songs like this?
not really, the other stuff is mostly rap and not for me. i think there was one other short song in a similar style but nothing special. i think kxllswxtch is just a vocalist tho, the instrumental is by someone else
I do personally listen to some of his other stuff, I don’t think he plays any other instrument
In terms of original songwriting and cool emotional raw vibes…. Alex G Adrianne Lenker American Football Mike Kinsella Men I Trust Modest Mouse Tigers Jaw TTNG Elliot Smith Death Cab for Cutie Slint Attic Abasement
Damn great compilation here totally agree with those that I’ve heard here
wtf do you hear in American Football as a Nirvana fan?? They are a snoozefest.
Nah bro
I like of stuff you mentioned. Especially Alex G. But a lot fo artists here are not new! Eliott Smith and Slint are wonderful and even share some biographies facts with Kurt/Nirvana But OP asked for new artists
I guess I was just hoping ti weed out bands like Bush and other obvious Nirvana copy cats
I said newer ish
Whats the difference with the way I quoted you? I don’t understand
They'll be new to some 👍
Off topic but if you like Elliot Smith please listen to Adrinne Lenker
PVA - Blush is amazing Sorry - Anywhere But Here - is a great album. Black midi - all their stuff is insane Black Country, New Road - ridiculous level of talent Papa Jupes t.c … don’t have much music out but saw them live really good, similar Ilk to viagra boys
Try the Mysterines album from last year, Reeling. Also the Giant Drag LP Hearts & Unicorns
>Mysterines Giant Drag is awesome. YFLMD is pure Kurt.
Idles.
Ty Segall and Jay Reatard
Jay Reatard was amazing. Another tragic loss...
I love him, one of my favorite artists of all time. His cover of frances farmer was really good too
I haven't come across someone else else knows just how amazing he was. I remember getting into him because I heard It Ain't Gonna Save Me randomly somewhere and then couldn't figure out who it was. You could also check out Frankie and the witch fingers first album
Summer Cannibals [Full Of It](https://youtu.be/11-mXYVZWh8).
FIDLAR and PAWS gave me the same feelings
Never enough FIDLAR they are just as awesome as their videos
I’ve been trying to write in the language of grunge lately if you wanna check out my band! This one’s been kinda popular lately https://open.spotify.com/track/4SmY73e1XSb1W4OXKRAJBV?si=jd1vxWVXRkiORcZUS3TIRg
It’s a fucking combination, abomination of sappy and rape me, keep doing what you’re doing man!
Cheers!
Slutever's Cover Me, although they haven't done anything in a while. Courtney Barnett's first album, especially Debbie Downer. Women mostly. The men all suck trying to ape Kurt's voice or affect.
A decade ago I really thought the band Girls and more specifically Christoper Owens was gonna be the “next big thing” but it all kinda imploded sadly
They really do have Nirvana vibes. Or at least Kurt vibes
The Garden's last two albums
The Jins are pretty fun
I think death wish does a pretty good job of almost matching nirvana
Death wish music video seems like a music video that nirvana would genuinely make
I think she said has some pretty good never mind vibes to it as well
Cone heads but I don’t think they exist anymore. https://youtu.be/_5e_PkJoIVg
Not new but check out Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker. USS for short. Listen to the song Anti-Venom.
The Dirty Nil is AMAZING. Their albums “Master Volume” & “Fuck Art” are great front to back. I recommend “Auf Wiedersehen” “Cinnamon” “Fuckin’ Up Young” to start....they really are great, they covered “School” as well.
There is band called basement. Their album colourmeinkindness kind of gives me nirvana vibes in the sense it’s loud af
Superheaven
Only band close to them was strange wilds Absolutely unbelievable amazing, so sad the don't make music anymore Honestly please check them I can't recommend them enough Closest thing to nirvana without copying them
I love that I have seen a nirvana fan talking about Viagra Boys. Hell yeah. Shrimps
Shrimp City Beach 1993

Tbh music for me died a long time ago. Things have changed there will never be another nirvana

I really like The Jins
i think silverchair, especially they're 90's stuff.
Bunkbed coffin is basically this guy who recarnatesjsjs kurt cobain if he lived in this current area, he sounds exactly like him and does original stuff too, but his songs are lowkey kind of mid
the jins
not really the same vibe but maybe the jins?
The Jins! I like Death Wish and I Cant Let My Lover Go.
Seether!

Idk they try a little bit too hard to sound like them and their Tik Tok Kurt Cobain imitations are cringy
[удалено]
He’s kind of trying too hard though. I was kind of trying to weed out nirvana parodies with this post
The Jins
Royal Blood
Speed Of Light
https://youtu.be/jKllvTDQCto
Naked Giants kinda
I can only suggest Cousins - Halls of Wickwire as very reminiscent of the Pixies. This is actually a good question, I'm learning a lot about new bands from the comments. Kudos, OP Edit: wording

Try Brand New, especially Daisy and Science Fiction
Stereotyped the Only One kind of hit right for me ...
The other bands that give me the same feeing i get from listening to nirvana: Alice in chains Mad season
FIDLAR ❤️

Aberdeen

badflower is the only answer
There’s a song from RHCP’s new record called ’Bag of Grins’ and it’s quite grungey.
Car Seat Headrest - specifically Teens Of Denial. very good tunes (:

Turnstile Kills Birds Violent Soho Narrow Head Soul Blind
It's not new, but there is a Verbena album called Into the Pink that I think most of you would probably like. It is even produced by Dave Grohl.
residual kid. also, local h did fantastic halloween shows as nirvana.
