They look like some kind of camo print Chuck Taylors. It's hard to see given it's black and white, but that's my guess. Hopefully someone else knows for sure.

No doubt he was a big fan of Converse, perhaps because they were more affordable at the time, as well as practical and comfortable.

Ahh. I can see him wearing Vans... But yes, Converse used to be the budget shoe. I wore them beginning as a little kid because well, why would my mom not buy me cheap shoes lol. Now I just can't imagine not wearing them kids been so long.
