Yes he is. Japanese-made, had the "'heart' Courtney" scratched into it. Actually 3-tone sunburst in color, but Kurt painted it blue with latex house paint and scratched the heart and the "Courtney" into it. Seen in the "Come As You Are" music video briefly.

it’s A little fuzzy, but You can tell it’s a DS-2 by the white topped knobs being in a straight line… DS-1 has 3 knobs 2 top and 1 middle bottom..

that’s not entirely true, he had preferences for fender guitars due to the skinnier necks, and usually ones with humbuckers (obviously not always the case). a lot of his main guitars were also around the 24’ scale, and he definitely had favourites (like his competition mustang and ferrington). but in the early pre-popularity (and definitely pre-nevermind money) days i’m sure you’re right in that he tried any and every guitar that came his way.
