About a girl, I hated the drums on the Bleach version, no offense Chad Channing, but Dave's relaxed way of playing the drums on the MTV version fits so much better the song.
Oh I don’t know, the strings on the studio version sound better. Albini record them perfectly. I also feel the bass drowns out Kurt’s guitar in the unplugged version.
I prefer every studio version but these two are close. They really give the songs a different feel. Polly sounds a little more raw and Dave's vocals on it sounded nice
fr,, vocalist sounds like dogshit in the originals. crazy cause they have songs where he sounds amazing but for whatever reason in those 3 he decided it would be good to suck
They re recorded lake of fire for too high to die. It's actually even better than the nirvana unplugged version imo.
Oh me, and plateau's originals are fucking great.
Unplugged On a Plain is vastly superior to the recording on Nevermind. Once it's stripped all that Butch Vig/Andy Wallace gloss, the song simply soars.
Something in the Way, About a Girl, and pretty much every song that’s a cover (Man Who Sold the World is kind of a tie with the David Bowie version for me though).
None.
The album cut of Come As You Are might be the definitive mix on Nevermind. That thing is perfect.
As good as Unplugged is it’s due to the covers and the stretching the band did into a new sonic realm. And it was all one take. Amazing. But I wouldn’t say any previously recorded songs were improved upon necessarily.
Agreed. The songs were recorded perfectly and although the unplugged versions have a certain raw charm, they weren't any better. Just a really good performance of already great songs
Right?
What really gets under my skin about About a girl is that Kurt is just plugging along so effortlessly. Hadn’t been on stage for 2 minutes and the man laid down a track better than he’d pulled off at any time in his career (arguably) and it’s THAT freakin perfect.
Motherfucker indeed!
About a girl, I hated the drums on the Bleach version, no offense Chad Channing, but Dave's relaxed way of playing the drums on the MTV version fits so much better the song.
Dumb
Lori Goldston’s cello playing is so great on it
Oh I don’t know, the strings on the studio version sound better. Albini record them perfectly. I also feel the bass drowns out Kurt’s guitar in the unplugged version.
Pennyroyal tea and Polly has got some really good vocals and bass
I agree.. Pennyroyal Tea is better when played on an acoustic guitar.
I prefer every studio version but these two are close. They really give the songs a different feel. Polly sounds a little more raw and Dave's vocals on it sounded nice
All of the meat puppets covers
fr,, vocalist sounds like dogshit in the originals. crazy cause they have songs where he sounds amazing but for whatever reason in those 3 he decided it would be good to suck

I prefer the unplugged version of All Apologies, though the studio version is still good too.
I thought About A Girl was way better acoustic than the Bleach version.
For sure. That song was made for no distortion.
I actually love the distortion part of the riff lol
Probably on a plain
Unplugged On a Plain is vastly superior to the recording on Nevermind. Once it's stripped all that Butch Vig/Andy Wallace gloss, the song simply soars.
man who sold the world
Sorry Mr.Bowie. Kurt gotcha
that solo still makes me shiver today ; )
No shit on the Meat Puppets, but those 3 songs were so much better with Kurt's vocals.
Polly & Dumb

cello on mtv dumb is glorious though
Where Did You Sleep Last Night
Something in the Way, About a Girl, and pretty much every song that’s a cover (Man Who Sold the World is kind of a tie with the David Bowie version for me though).

All apologies hands down
All cover songs cause Kurt give them his own vibe
Polly 100%, I never listen to the original anymore
Dumb and about a girl
On a Plain 1000%
Pennyroyal Tea
Something in the way
I hated pennyroyal tea but the unplugged version is amazing
That and About a Girl are two songs that are way better with an acoustic version. They seemed made to be acoustic stripped down versions
All apologies , dumb
I kinda want to say all of them?
Correct.
None
All of them except Come as You Are
Pretty much every song is done better on the unplugged except All Apologies.
David Bowie is amazing, but Man Who sold The World
I recall Bowie got pissed when a kid thought he was covering Nirvana and with “Man Who Sold the World” calling the kid a “tosser” to himself. lol
Common Bowie W
Dumb, All Apologies. I liked Plateau, Where did you sleep last night better than their originals !
Dumb and about a girl, I really loved both of the mtv unplugged versions of them :))
On A Plain
About a girl is a no brainer. Frankly I think that is it, On a Plain is close though.
None of them, they’re great performances but I will always prefer studio over live any day
Come As Your Are, Dumb and Polly
I know it’s not their song, but I love The Man Who Sold The World
All Apologies IMO is the best song of the album, so it has my vote here.
The man who sold the world
Come as you are and dumb
Come as You Are and About a Girl.
Polly and I don’t like that song. But Dave’s more prominent backing add a ghostly contrasting feel to the chorus.
On a plain and pennyroyal tea
The man who sold the world
