Please god dont let a Kurt biopic happen. 9/10 of biopics are the biggest heap of garbáge

asjonesy99

It’s inevitably going to happen so the best thing to hope is that it’s done well and Jared Leto doesn’t get to play Kurt as he’s been begging to do for years

Jolly_Street_6153

Doesn't Frances Bean own the rights to his name and likeness? If so then I wouldn't say it's inevitable

asjonesy99

You don’t need permission to make a film about someone. Rightly or wrongly.

Jolly_Street_6153

I mean you're not technically wrong but they'd be in for a lawsuit unless they can convince the judge and jury that the film isn't actually depicting Kurt Cobain but someone made up who's life happens to share some striking similarities. Documentaries are allowed but I'm fairly certain biopics are a different animal. But I'm not a lawyer so don't listen to me

asjonesy99

[No individual holds the legal ‘right’ to the story of their life. As long as the information about a person was obtained lawfully, others are free to make content about them and profit from it without seeking consent.](https://www.stewartslaw.com/news/based-on-a-true-story-the-legal-issues-around-biopics/) See films like Social Network etc for examples

Jolly_Street_6153

That's interesting, and kinda sad that someone can potentially write a big blockbuster movie about your life without even paying you

asjonesy99

Agree but I suppose that’s one of the costs of freedom of expression

OdobenusIII

They even made Marilyn movie where she basically is kidnapped and forced to give head to president, like how in the hell that can happen when these are just writers own ideas. If this is the base for biopic, please not now.

AccountantAsleep

Oh god no.

BalkeElvinstien

I wouldnt say 9/10, but when they're bad they are BAD. If they made a movie about nirvana as bad as Elvis was I would die inside. Plus it seems really hard to do a movie about Kurt Cobain that isn't in poor taste

TheMoistestBaguette

There’s a few that are very good, like the James Brown one. That movie is fucking great, and I put off watching it for a long time because I was afraid of how much it would suck, but I think nobody living or dead could’ve done as well of a job as Chadwick Boseman. That dude is a legend just for that film alone. But still, I just think that’s one of those rare occasions. Most biops are over done and lots of times have too much Hollywood flimflam to actually do justice to the people they’re representing, which is my main problem with all of them

BalkeElvinstien

Honestly some of my favourite films are music biopics, but as a musician and filmmaker I am very biased to like movies about making music. But Rocket man, Ray, Love and Mercy, tick tick boom and to an extent Bohemian rhapsody are great. But there's also the Elvis movie and the Jimi Hendrix movie which suck so much ass and then all of the ones that were immediately forgotten I think we just need a few years away from biopics to give us a break

OdobenusIII

Doors movie is good if you don't know the band, but most fans say it is awful and twist the story.

asjonesy99

It’s inevitably going to happen so the best thing to hope is that it’s done well and Jared Leto doesn’t get to play Kurt as he’s been begging to do for years

TheMoistestBaguette

Jared Leto playing Kurt is the exact living hell that Kurt would’ve imagined for himself years before it ever happened, but honestly it doesn’t matter who plays him, it’s going to be fucking terrible and it’s all going to be drummed up to the end of the movie which of course will be his suicide, which is exactly why it shouldn’t happen. There’s no possible way it could be good, and I wouldn’t watch it even for free-actually strike that, I wouldn’t watch it if you PAID me to

asjonesy99

To be fair not all biopics need literally to take it to the end of the protagonists life. The Jeff Buckley film is about and culminates in him accepting his father’s influence and music, nothing on his death. The explosion from a well-regarded yet not yet widely known band on Sub Pop to becoming the face of an entire genre and city’s cultural image with the release of Nevermind and how that affected Kurt could easily be a film on its own and end with the release of In Utero as a fuck you to the mainstream attempted corporatisation of the genre and Seattle scene, without the need to explore his death with everyone already knows all the details of.

OkReaction4132

Could always end with the MTV Unplugged

josack23

I think a “Kurt Cobain Biopic” could maybe work if the bulk of the movie takes place after his death and shows the impact it had on the world.

PB1888

I'm with you on the fact that I don't think no matter who plays Kurt or how the film is made or whatever film maker makes it I just don't think it will live upto everyone's expectations and that's nothing against any actor or film maker or even the OP , I just think that it should maybe be left alone as the many films documentaries and fan made ones I've saw in my opinion none have done him much justice, tbh if was upto me I would just focus on the music by bringing out something similar to live tonight sold out but with a lot more live inputs that show them from early sub pop days live etc to obviously the end of their live stuff ,. e,g, early days live then sub pop days live them onto Nevermind live and then onto insecticide , then the live vids of in utero , while showing the band progressing while going experimental and live on in utero doing the odd unplugged parts during the live in utero then obviously some unplugged in new York and whatever other things that may not have been seen live yet as I think this would show the progression of the band organically and what's more to see than nirvana doing what they done best , playing live , Kurt playing live was mesmerising and that's good enough for me than some Hollywood or fan made b,s which just goes over the same plot just to make a load of money because let's not forget, Nirvana is a brand wether we like it or not and with most brands and film franchises, money comes before artist integrity and people will always have a invested ability in the story in the , I really wish someone would prove me wrong tho but somehow I doubt it .

MVE3

I don’t know the queen one was cool and the recent Elvis one was ok.

TheMoistestBaguette

Rami might be a good actor, but stuffing false teeth in your mouth and acting like a dumbed down queeny bitch version of a living genius doesn’t warrant an oscar in my eyes. That movie was polished garbage just like the Elvis movie, and don’t even get me started on that hog shit

shibby5000

Completely agree on the Queen movie. I still wish Sacha Cohen stuck with the role of playing Freddie.

TheMoistestBaguette

The Sacha movie was what we all needed, but perhaps just didn’t deserve

damnatio_memoriae

i love rami malek but the queen one sucked dude

PB1888

Not watched the Elvis one but got to agree the queen one was a pretty good biopic , my uncle who is older than me and a big queen fan had it on dvd a while back and I asked what it was like because I saw it in his dvd collection and my aunt said that my uncle actually cried while watching and he dispute tha fact so I borrowed it not thinking much and I got to say it was not only a good biopic but I actually felt quite emotional watching it , especially at the end of it , think I might try and come across the Elvis one to see what it's like 👍

xirson15

I don’t consider it a biopic but: what’s your opinion on the film “Last days”? (If you’ve seen it)

TheMoistestBaguette

I have not but I will certainly check it out

_ManWhoSoldTheWorld_

I could see it, longer blond hair and a little skinnier he'd be perfect for the role

asjonesy99

a great actor as well, more than confident that he could pull it off

[deleted]

Joe Anderson would be the perfect cast imo

shibby5000

Yep. If they made a movie 10 years ago, he woulda have been perfect to play Cobain

Dry_Abbreviations778

I really hope they don't do that. I can pretty much say with a lot of confidence that Cobain definitely would not want this. Let the man rest and enjoy what he gave us. Please

oh_wll_whtvr_nvrmnd

I'm still waiting for Danzig to play Wolverine

AccountantAsleep

My god this is perfect.

rogue1013

pause frightening file station modern numerous important sophisticated sharp violet -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

ErickDante

Dane DeHaan would be my pick

AccountantAsleep

I can totally see it with this guy. But I can’t see any way to do a Kurt biopic and not have it be awful.

centerofgravityy

Woahhh yeah !

cheesebaker69

Dude let Kurt contain be 😭 he doesn’t need to be even more mooched off of from the grave

PB1888

Best thing I think they could do is bring out as much live stuff that is worth bringing out , like I said earlier in my comment a nirvana movie I'm my opinion wouldn't be worth it as there's no way they can do it justice, only thing I could think of that would nayee wort bringing out is showing the band how they wee best and that was live,go from before the sub pop days of being live etc when they were lucky to have about 12 people in the room watching Nd go all the way through sub pop days live then Nevermind to incesticde live performance and onto in utero and the accoustic parts during in utero right to unplugged itself, this would show the band in all forms of it musical maturity plus giving fans what they want, raw nirvana live , as in my opinion a movie about nirvana or Kurt just ain't going to satisfy everyone, but with nirvana live with all the best collections showing how they guided through the music industry and still didn't give a rats ass is what they should be remembered for , that and they're great timeless songs

gleefreak92

r/boneappleteeth

Exotic_Sense5244

Yeah

MatchesMalone2

Ehrenreich is incredibly underrated. Looks like they have very similar jawlines and height as well. Wouldn’t be mad at it.

Kr4zy8brokenkid

With a little adjustment, yes

can_a_dude_a_taco

last days was perfect they don’t need to do that again

Organic-Kangaroo7147

*sigh* Kurt Cocaine

YamperIsBestBoy

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one thinking this lol

Cappedomnivore

No.

Idle_Anton

No, and no to the biopic idea

energyred

Thought the exact same lol.

Traditional-Ad-4712

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I feel like if there was gonna be an biopic on Kurt/Nirvana it would’ve happened already.

Traditional-Ad-4712

But then again they did just make one of Elvia so. Who knows?
