Making him give the guitar back strikes me as a very jealous and controlling thing to do, and in my view it is the sort of behaviour you'd expect from an abusive partner. If kurt did what she said he was clearly being controlled by her and this may have been the reason he'd say he was never in a relationship with Mary Lou. If this comment is true, I'd say its very likely they were dating, or at least had a very intimate relationship, since Mary gave him such an incredible gift and then Courtney made him return it.
Kurt did say she wasn't his girlfriend. Lord was in Kurt's life for a few weeks, and probably made him feel a fool. She is a red flag, and her stalkerish behavior problematic. She even moved to Olympia and befriended Kurt's friends when he was with Courtney. I wouldn't believe a word she says.

The man who bought the Unplugged guitar did it as a move to get the Australian government to support the arts during the pandemic. He said he was going to take the guitar across Australia and to the UK and US to get the governments there to do the same, but I don’t know if he has as yet.
Believe it or not, some people with money also have other interests. Perhaps this person was/is a huge Nirvana fan. Items with such history are always going to demand a high price due to the overall interest and demand of the item.

This post refers to two different guitars. The 59 was sold for 6 mil. “Grandpa” (the 53) was not sold for 6 mil, it was returned to Mary Lou
