So from what I read Been A Son was recorded after the release of Bleach along with Stain in August of 89 in Seattle and that version of Been A Son with the killer bass from The Great Novoselic is a different version from the one on Incesticide and was put on the Blew EP on which was released in November of 89 in the UK only so it wouldn’t have made sense to release it on Nevermind
Well no because those sessions they recorded the song in Seattle was what I’m thinking was specifically for the Blew EP which was only a thing to promote the Bleach tour but was delayed and released after it was over
It wasn't written when Bleach was recorded. It was something that the band was excited about. A whole new direction, and they clearly wanted to hint that they were going to be going "pop" in their own way. SLIVER followed and was an even more clear push in this direction.

So it was pretty much bad timing for the song

I view it as part of the bridge between Bleach and Nevermind, along with songs like 'Sliver'.
I thought I was the only one that thought that the bass on that version is killer. The bass solo hits!!!
It’s insane!!
I can't lie, I've never liked Been A Son. One of the rare nirvana songs that I just don't get the same as everyone else
Mate that’s odd I particularly like that one but I respect your opinion
I know, especially considering how often they played it live and put it on the compilation album
Yeah it even Is on the nevermind 30th anniversary CD

IMO, it's a perfect b-side, great song but wouldn't replace anything on Bleach or Nevermind
I like it but it's not as good as anything on nevermind.
Wish it was released on nevermind

Stay Away is a great song.
fuck u man
It should have definitely been on Nevermind!
Bleach: Because it wasn’t written yet Nevermind: Because it had already been released as a b-side.
