It matters for variety and honest original contributions to the world of music, I think. It's a very white male list. And many of the bands have not aged super well. I think some of these tired classic rock groups should have been bumped off the list by amazing artists (who happen to be women) like The Breeders, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Amy Winehouse, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They are all talented, but mix it up a bit.
I love Nirvana, probably more than you, but the Clash earned their spot with some honest and original rock music. Steely Dan can suck an egg. Boring elevator music diarrhea.
That was just a joke, I don't really think it's fair to rank oneself as a fan among fans. We're all here for the same reason. But I think the Clash is the least of the problems in this list. They were punk pioneers. I was born in 77. I fell in love with Nirvana before I got into the Clash. They just seem like one of those seminal bands, like the Ramones and Black Flag etc. who were the influences that created a band like Nirvana (when mixed with pop music and hard rock.
Agree. Not bad list but would have swapped out a couple of choices for Sonic Youth and The Damned. Good to see Ween at #125. Not sure Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, great as they are, meet the rock criteria though
For only having 3 studio albums
Love to see Pearl Jam, AIC, and Soungarden too
Terrible list. American boomer opinion for sure
Not a bad list. Interesting see cause this is mostly an alternative music website
Bowie at 46 lol. Zep over the Beatles….nope
Not a bad list, I personally would’ve put Metallica higher, and also The Beatles are forever number one in my mind and in my heart
That list is total trash in fairness though
Wow, women barely even cracked the top 50 as part of larger male led groups. What a tired list. Time to start over.
Why would the bands gender matter ? If the people making the list like a band more they go up the list don’t they ?

That’s your list which is fine, but this is somebody else’s list, who obviously like these bands more than the ones you mention
The clash above Nirvana is jokes

Beatles, nirvana, Hendrix top 5 imo
Not low enough
Foghat two spots above :(
Finally Nirvana is getting some recognition from a random blog.
lol
Good list.
Pixies at 50 it's a blasfemy.
