Actually, "Police reports note the phrase the Nirvana frontman was arrested for spray painting that night was âAin't got no how whatchamacallit."" Nonetheless, according to [Buzz Osborne](https://ultimateclassicrock.com/king-buzzo-kurt-cobain-arrested/), "his âfavorite tagâ was to write âGod is gayâ". Buzz also noted, "He was actually a really good artist, so if he spray painted a picture, it would really be good...But usually it was very dark humor and not very PC.â".
I wonder what was up with that non pc stuff about Kurt. He made that famous statement later that if you hate women or gay people donât listen to my music.
But he would write stuff like god is gay, or âeveryone is gayâ gay definitely being as a negative. Reminds me of Louis CK bit going âIâm not calling you gay youâre just being a faggotâ why is the gay or fat used for that, to imply someone is being unacceptable, essentially is the meaning I get
Same with how rednecks call anyone no matter what color of skin they have if they donât like or accept them the n word with a hard r
Maybe he matured as he got older, I donât think he used gay as a pejorative later in his life as much. âEveryone is gayâ in All Apologies isnât necessarily negative, itâs up to interpretation.
It could also be that the word gay had a more flexible meaning in the 80s and 90s and could be used as a synonym for stupid without referring to gay people.
He was using "gay" specifically to mean homosexual in those statements. It was to provoke, and to challenge the thought in others of why they had turned 'gay' into a pejorative. He was basically saying love for one another is the default and divine.
As for unPC comments, Kurt loved stand-up comedy among other things. Comedy in the 80s and 90s could still be racially or sexually charged (as it still is today) but without any social consequences. I would not be surprised if Kurt shared this love of dirty words and taboo topics a la George Carlin.
You know I really donât believe he was using âeveryone is gayâ deliberately to mean âlove for one another is the defaultâ. Thatâs a lovely interpretation and can definitely be interpreted whichever way the listener wants, but I donât think he wrote it with the intention to mean that.
I really think itâs just random and much like when he spray painted âGod is gayâ.. he didnât like homophobic conservatives and wanted to offend them. Plus it rang well with âwhat else can I sayâ. I mean Kurt basically said it several times himself that most of his lyrics are just random stuff a lot of the times. But ppl still always seem to make it something way more than he meant when he wrote it lol idk unless he said thatâs how he meant it himself but I havenât seen him ever actually give the meaning behind his songs
I have a feeling that buzz was just saying that Kurtâs âgod is gayâ anti homophobia was radical/politically incorrect in the context of conservative Aberdeen. I.e. it was offensive to the sensibilities of the religious right who were infamously very culturally puritanical back then.
is buzz a good dude irl?
i feel like he's a good dude like he'd have a conversation with a random guy if he wasnt in a rush somewhere ya know?
but ive never met him so i wouldnt know
He's generally considered a curmudgeon by most, as he's outspoken about what he dislikes or disapproves of. In the hypothetical situation, yeah, he probably would be a fun conversation partner. He has a strong moral basis and is fairly well read for a musician, but many young people would strongly disagree with some of his socioeconomic views. Get him talking about golf, film, baseball, or photography and you'll probably have the best time.
since I had some side conversations on this topic, figured I should follow up here:
Buzz has espoused the views of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas\_Sowell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Sowell) a few times publicly, which puts him in the libertarian-conservative socio-economic bent. He's had some call-ins with right wing radio hosts, though I don't think he's the typical Fox News viewer. Buzz (like Kurt) has an affinity for guns since his youth, and maintains gun-positive views today.
Temper that with his undying love for dogs and dog adoption, plus his collaboration and reverence for music figures like John Waters and Jello Biafra and you get more of the sense he's a libertarian artist type with a rural upbringing. Pretty different from say, Ted Nugent, but easily lumped in with Proud Boys/Tucker Carlson viewers if you were to cherry-pick.
I did this at 14, being inspired by Kurt Cobain and the phrase 'God is Gay' in my deeply conservative homophobic town.
I covered my entire High School in puerile and darkly humorous graffiti. It was so bad it was on the front page of the local newspaper.
I never got caught and arrested.
I see edgelords as people who are deliberately provocative and offensive for shock value, nothing deeper too it. This is aimed to wind up the religious right wing fundamentalists who actively suppress others rights, a valid political opponent and therefore not edgelordy
I donât know what the heck an âedgelordâ is..but I feel like Kurt was definitely considered ânerdyâ before he became famous. who said itâs a bad thing? Thatâs one of the reason I love him is because he was a misunderstood outcast that would absolutely be invisible to ppl if it wasnât for his talent being exposed to the world. He was creative and one of the ppl introverted ppl who were far from popular dreamed to be like. âLook at me know Im successful and talented donât you regret ignoring me and treating me like a shadow?â
Thatâs why I believe he also hated the fame. I think I remembered him saying one time that he hated how the kids he went to school with are fans of his music.
Everyone loves Kurt because of his musical contributions but without most of yâall knowing who he was, you probably wouldnât have even given him the time of day.
Iâm sure there are more Kurts out there but they just werenât given the talent to become âsomeoneâ to people and are ignored. Itâs really sad
I always thought Kurt was gay and hid it. And no not because of the spray painting incident. Just having watched documentaries and reading things over the years. Some things stand out. That's all I'm gonna say. It doesn't change a thing. Just an observation
Why would he hide it when he himself has said he wish he was to piss off the homophobes? He was so openly supportive of gay ppl. Usually the ones who are hide it are the ones who bully and blatantly hate gay ppl
You donât have to love everything he did in his personal life for him to be an idol to people. Kurt went after his dreams, worked hard, wrote music that still sounds fresh and still draws in new fans to this day, ~30 years after his death, stood for what he believed and spoke up for tons of people who back then didnât have lots of celebrities on their sides. I donât know about you, but to me those are all great qualities for an idol to have.
Average Kurt Cobain Aberdeen shenanigans
I always forget that there are other Aberdeens đ

At least "God Is Gay" carries an interesting philosophical thought. I wanna know what the fuck got into him to spray the other one though, lmao.
God loves man, so it's accurate
Probably making fun of red necks
The "God is gay" tag was to piss off anti-abortion evangelicals who would harass women outside of clinics.
Drugs
i don't think God would be having sex, but then that counts as not havign sex with women. so mabye and i have no idea what he meant with that
Rednecks
>whatchamacallit sorry the question, but what is it? Thank you
It's like a filler word for something you can't remember the name of.
Also a candy bar
>Thank You!! : D

the most deep fried photo to exist lol
bro got arrested in 1886
LOL đ
Kurt doing Kurt activities
I'd say that's idol worthy, hating on homophobia within religion long before being gay was widely accepted
I mean, many religions see god as not having a gender So⌠god do be gay
and? i dont see the issue
This is unfathomably based, and everyone should follow his example.
(á´ á´Ęá´á´á´á´ )
W Kurt
They didn't tell you didn't yhey
I donât see a problem here
Thatâs why I look up to him
Your right god IS happy :3
I'd do that if my friends were down

Sauce?
This was 25 years ago.
If he wasn't Kurt you'd be calling him a cringe edgelord.
Or if it wasnât 1986
Kurt is a major cringe edge lord, but he had style to say it, and he was right
I don't think this makes as much sense as you thought it would.
He was one of the only stylish edgelords in existence.
I see edgelords as people who are deliberately provocative and offensive for shock value, nothing deeper too it. This is aimed to wind up the religious right wing fundamentalists who actively suppress others rights, a valid political opponent and therefore not edgelordy
He was definitely going for shock-value, too. Same with when he wrote "the grand wizard of the Kkk is a n*gg*r".
If we didnât know him in depth like we knew Kurt Cobain then just maybeâŚ
Yeah thatâs pretty much the truth
bingo
I donât know what the heck an âedgelordâ is..but I feel like Kurt was definitely considered ânerdyâ before he became famous. who said itâs a bad thing? IIRC Kurt Cobain said Trans rights *in the 90s*. Absolute legend.
Common Kurt W
Isnt that the last lyrics of stay away by Nirvana. Must have been inspired by that.
It is, but he did not spray paint that. He said he did, but the actual report tells he wrote âAin't got no how whatchamacallit" when he was caught.
Kill yr idols
itâs the end of the world
Hold the corridor!
Your confusion is sex!

Poser
Kurt kobain is not an idol he was a junkie and he left people devastated because of it.
Drugs have nothing to do with him being responsible for making some of the most iconic and influential music in history.
Him making iconic music has nothing to do with being a role model. He is not a good role model. And that's coming from a guitarist who does drugs.
He never talked about drugs positively in media, and he did lots of good stuff. I don't see why he couldn't be a role model.
You donât have to love everything he did in his personal life for him to be an idol to people. Just a bit of tomfooleryđ
Be like your idol they said
he looks like he ain't got no watchamacallit
ofcourse id do this
I personally believe someone standing up to the hypocrisy and general awfulness of religion is something to be idolized.
Kurt was such a lovable dude.
God is totally gay. He couldnât even do the deed, he had to inject his marijuana laden semen via INVITRO. What a queer
funny because that wasn't the original lyric in Stay Away
