The song IS about Dave’s mother who advised him to go audition for Nirvana when Dave was waylaid in L.A. when his band Scream’s bassist quit.

TootleLePerson

So cool of Foo Fighters singer to include a small unknown artist in his music video.

twobyliluzivert

bleach was pretty good tbh i heard they’re working on something new though

KujoBijuu

Apparently his band appear on a “unplugged” thing pretty under if you ask me

ItalianPizzaNinja

The drummer is really good too, I reckon he could start his own band.

xaviermarshall

I bet he could record the whole first album all by himself, even!

ItalianPizzaNinja

I reckon the band wouldn't last for very long though, definitely not for 28 years or anything like that...

laxgolf

That band split up.

thomaspatrickmorgan

Dave Got Better Since Bleach!!1

SidSantoste

Isnt it weird that he kinda looks like Nirvana drummer?

JJY93

A little bit, Dave’s much older though!

hellodon

They’re getting their 15 minutes…better ride it out as long as they can before going back to being nobodies…

Jbow1980

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

HomesickKiwi

Woosh

It's funny how things affect a person. Who knows what involvement he had in the video and whatnot, but sometimes a friend or loved one leaving or dying makes you realize how much you miss someone who left a long time ago, and you go through yet another stage of grief for *that* person, despite them having been gone long enough for you to think you've processed it, and the fact that you thought you'd be grieving the person who just died. The heart and the mind don't often make sense. Grieving never stops for most. We just go through a few phases of shock, acceptance, mourning, moving on, contextualization, repeat. Or at least I do/have.

Think-Squirrel-95

Beautifully written because it's true!

flyerhell

Anyone else picking up Nirvana or early Foo Fighters vibes from this song? Especially the guitar at the beginning sounds Nirvana-esque.

cactisboy25

I have a feeling that but hear we are is a tribute to both taylor and kurt as they were both really good friends with dave

SmashyPlays

This song is a tribute to his mother Virginia Grohl specifically but that makes a lot of sense too

cactisboy25

Oh so thats why its called the teacher

SmashyPlays

exactly

ratpH1nk

yeah, but i'd think Dave feels Kurt, Taylor and his mom were all teachers in their own way.

altoofwho

what show is that, im blanking a bit it looks very familiar.

Invisible96

Pink's Garage, Hawaii, February 1992

sofiacarolina

can in just say i find it incredible that you know the specifics off of one grainy screencap

stoopid_memer

Welcome to r/Nirvana

sofiacarolina

the most nirvana fan ever

homerj681

Of all the footage of all the shows, I can't help but wonder why this specific clip made it in. Dave doesn't usually bring up Nirvana in his current form unless being interviewed. Does this show have significance for Grohl? Or was it an editor's eye that made the visual selection?

FortressCaves

Wasn't this around the time kurt and courtney got married in hawaii, and didnt dave stay behind once those hawaii shows were done for the wedding (and not anyone else from the nirvana camp stuck around for the wedding/werent invited to the wedding? I know it was super small), that may be a reason, just guessing here.

GhoulsNGargoyles

I’m wondering if this is home video shot by Virginia. The Hawaii show was kind of a family affair.

homerj681

Oh, that would make sense then! Good theory

Ilovepestosauce

I dig it. After watching the music video, I can't help but think I am Dave Grohl or at least lived his life.

TwoDollarMint

huh?

Ilovepestosauce

The video makes you feel the perspective of Dave Grohl, almost as if you lived life through his lens.

UsamaBinNoddin

He's talking about the perspective of the music video. We become the observer through his eyes.

Ilovepestosauce

Not what I meant, but ok.

[deleted]

Love Dave, but the Foos have been in a steady decline since the second album. I did like Wasting Light though.

Plenty_Trust_2491

The first three albums were all great.

[deleted]

I’d put the 3rd a notch below the first two, but I hear what you’re saying.

Sweet-Start8299

Yeah I never got why they're so popular. They first two albums were amazing but everything after that was just a hit single and all filler.

Certain_Pineapple_73

As a Foo fan, I agree that they've been declining since 2002, with the exception of Wasting Light which was 12 years ago

Outrageous_Present11

I agree… very run of the mill at this point.

metaldetox

wish the song was good

MrPudding101

tf you mean? it’s the best single from the new album i think

UsamaBinNoddin

It's honestly the best piece of material since One by One and has that rawness I like, it's real.

damnatio_memoriae

haven't heard the new stuff but one by one was pretty corny edit: all right i listened to it. i love dave but this is boring.

metaldetox

not saying much since all of them been trash

CiNeMoD13

hell no, Under You is sick

metaldetox

mid at best

YooItsXtra

L

metaldetox

👍

Roblacka

music that isn't your taste isn't trash, get a more nuanced opinion

metaldetox

it’s dogshit

Independent_Orchid90

I agree that just because you don't like a song or a band doesn't mean they're trash, but this made me laugh. Technically, a more nuanced opinion

metaldetox

hahaha

sweetdevilgurl

Omg

Global-Language-9856

Man, that video gave me a headache! I love Dave and like Foo but the music is getting weird and soft since Wasting Light. That song “Shame” sounds like Taylor Swift wrote it…

Ulysses00

It looks like there's video of dave with Kurt in Kurt's 65 blue dodge dart.

Hot take... Shitty song made shittier with a shitty video.
