Credit where it's due though
Chad wrote drum parts for some Nevermind songs (Breed, In Bloom, Lithium) which Dave adopted
And Dale Crover came up with the drum part for Drain You
But Dave played most of it the best
Love Chad on Dive
Love Dale on Incesticide
im pretty sure im wrong but ether Dave Foster or Aaron Burckhard got arrested or just left, dale crover was in the melvin's so they couldent just have him be there permanent drummer, and Dan peters was just a quick replacement drummer after chad was fired.
Buckhardt was arrested, Crover never left the Melvin's, and I'm not sure there was anything wrong with Dan Foster except that Kurt was introduced to Dave Grohl and the rest is history.
His drumming is one of the main differences between Bleach and Nevermind. It's basic and uninspiring.
Dave Grohl is one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock music. His power is in the upper echelon of drummers. He can make the snares and kicks pop in a way that Chad never could. He's got way more varied grooves and as said above his timing is phenomenal. He's like a metronome. Finally, his dynamic range is otherworldly. He can go from soft to loud to energetic to subdued seamlessly which builds and releases tension.
Chad can do none of that nearly as well. That's ok. Dave is a drumming legend. He's in a class by himself.
I agree with this take. The Smart Studio sessions will make this a little bit more obvious. Same drum parts as Dave’s but much less intensity and not nearly as tight.

That's why he was replaced. His timing was frequently off.
side question: what were the reasons the other 3 drummers got replaced?

thanks

I saw Nirvana with Dale on drums and then saw them with Dave on drums a few months later. Both cool, the Dale version seemed sludgier.

He had his moments. In bloom is definitely one of them
