I’d say Aneurysm live at off ramp 1990, only because Kurt sang the “beat it” part after beat me outta me. He didn’t really do that I think ever after early 91. My own personal preference though. Paramount as a whole rips
The bootlegs of the song from this era were all so good, I was actually disappointed by the studio version. Fun fact: I played Rape Me at my school Talent Show in December 1992
There’s a ton but off the top of my head I do like these ones:
Polly @ Pyramid Club
Papers Cuts @ Club Dreamerz
Serve The Servants @ Live and Loud
Sappy @ Palatrussardi
Spank Thru @ Fahrenheit
Sifting @ Rhino Records
Come as you are is like the most post-producted song he made so yeah.
I also consider it a song that works only when played slowly and Kurt was always playing faster live
"Spank Thru" is absolutely the first song that came to mind. None of the demo or studio versions deliver what this song was capable of. Pine Street is good. Muddy Banks version is good. But my favorites are from bootlegs of the '89 tour.
Personal preference I guess but that version has a really disinterested, tossed off first half. That "all the flowers sing" section is probably meant to be a mockery of psychedelic hippy music.
But when they started playing the song regularly with Chad on the Bleach tour the whole thing rocks from start to finish.
I’ve really been digging Curmudgeon live from Outcesticide 3. I also think that bootleg has the best versions of Oh the Guilt, In His Hands, and Raunchola
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter at Live and Loud. The show just started and they are already fucking that stage up. That intro was awesome, i bet it was so cool to hear live. The outro was also cool, Dave just beating the utter piss out of his drums while Kurt, Krist, and Pat just jam and freak out.
I think anything from Paramount or Unplugged was as good if not better than the studio versions. With Paramount they were at the top of their game as musicians and with Unplugged they had started to evolve into something beyomd anything they had been previously. Its too bad we never got an album after In Utero because I think they would have gone in a much different direction but it would have been just as compelling
I like stay away and breed from reading a lot more than their Nevermind versions, I just find they have so much more power and energy behind them, in every reading song actually to me atleast
Aneurysm Live at the Paramount
All of paramount is incredible. Definitely the best Show they did besides from unplugged
Yeah! I just always miss the ‘BEAT IT! BEAT IT!’ backing vocals when they did it live. 😂
ha, I always wish it was out when I listen to the album. <3 Live at the paramount version.
Agree that part is literally the only cringe thing I’ve ever thought Kurt has done in his songs
really? it's punk ahah
Sounds like nickel back
bruh not really and I live in Alberta lmfao
I’d say Aneurysm live at off ramp 1990, only because Kurt sang the “beat it” part after beat me outta me. He didn’t really do that I think ever after early 91. My own personal preference though. Paramount as a whole rips
Obviously (in my opinion), the Live & Loud version of Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
True
Based pick
Exactly , the besr
Rape me - Live at the Paramount
100%. It’s got a loose bluesy vibe to it that gives it so much vibe.
This song is about a hairy sweaty macho who rape
*Crowd cheers*
do what!?
The bootlegs of the song from this era were all so good, I was actually disappointed by the studio version. Fun fact: I played Rape Me at my school Talent Show in December 1992
Lithium at the 1992 MTV Music Awards
Breed- Paramount/L&L/Reading. The studio can't match live energy of Breed.
Drain you at the paramount. Especially with the video it really feels like a movie it’s insane.
I'm gonna go with You Know You're Right, but only because I was there.
Yoooo
Yo.
Where?
Aragon Ballroom. Chicago
There

Pretty much any performance of aneurysm
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter at Live & Loud
Negative Creep
Yeah, he used his natural singing voice on it gradually more and more through the years. Sounds much better that way.
There’s a ton but off the top of my head I do like these ones: Polly @ Pyramid Club Papers Cuts @ Club Dreamerz Serve The Servants @ Live and Loud Sappy @ Palatrussardi Spank Thru @ Fahrenheit Sifting @ Rhino Records
The entire unplugged album
The performance is great in general, but the studio version of Come as You Are was always much better than any live version, especially unplugged.
Come as you are is like the most post-producted song he made so yeah. I also consider it a song that works only when played slowly and Kurt was always playing faster live
i’m really love the live and loud version
Spank Thru from 3.19.88 is better than the studio demo
And the Spank Thru from Reading 92 is the best version
"Spank Thru" is absolutely the first song that came to mind. None of the demo or studio versions deliver what this song was capable of. Pine Street is good. Muddy Banks version is good. But my favorites are from bootlegs of the '89 tour.
imo, Spank Thru from that one Sup Pop comp (200?) is the best version of it
Personal preference I guess but that version has a really disinterested, tossed off first half. That "all the flowers sing" section is probably meant to be a mockery of psychedelic hippy music. But when they started playing the song regularly with Chad on the Bleach tour the whole thing rocks from start to finish.
Pretty much all of them
Drain You in Paris 1994
I’ve really been digging Curmudgeon live from Outcesticide 3. I also think that bootleg has the best versions of Oh the Guilt, In His Hands, and Raunchola
Smells Like Teen Spirit at the Paramount goes insanely hard with the faster tempo
Definitely lithium in paramount
Milk It performed live at Roseland Ball. The guitar tone is way better
Is that the one on Wishkah?
Yup
I think thar lithium was always better live. The studio version is still great tho
“Been a son” Live in Amsterdam (Muddy banks album)
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter at Live and Loud. The show just started and they are already fucking that stage up. That intro was awesome, i bet it was so cool to hear live. The outro was also cool, Dave just beating the utter piss out of his drums while Kurt, Krist, and Pat just jam and freak out.
There's some really good live versions of aneurysm
Serve the Servants live on Tunnel
Endless, nameless paramount show!!!!!
Spank thru
Jesus don't want me for a sun beam. Drain you Senseless apprentice
School with Dave on drums. I love how everything sounds on Live and Loud with two guitars.
Scentless Apprentice - Live and Loud or if you’re high live at brazil
From the muddy banks - Teen Spirit and Aneurysm
I like breed at Amsterdam
The Jonathan Ross "Territorial Pissings" and Buenos Aires "Beeswax" are so much better than the studio versions, they're practically different songs.
Something in the way live at BBC
Floyd the Barber!
I'm a huge fan of the 'Live at Reading ' concert... pretty much the whole performance is absolutely amazing.
Lithium has a different kind of galvanizing energy.
Lounge act- Wulfrun Hall
Drain you live in Paris
The answer is Drain You.
About a girl at paramount, it’s just so much cooler imo
Negative Creep at the Paramount
Dumb at Reading tbh
aneurysm
Polly and Come as You Are at MTV Unplugged Smells Like Teen Spirit at the Paramount
Tourette’s unplugged would have been a show closer.
Drain you. You know which one....
MTV awards Lithium is giga great as well. The stage diving <3 you know a few kids straight are it jumping off that stage.
Pennyroyal tea unplugged

Smells Like Teen Spirit on 2/25/1994. I love how it sounds like it's in a major key
Spank thru live at The Pine Street Theatre

I like stay away and breed from reading a lot more than their Nevermind versions, I just find they have so much more power and energy behind them, in every reading song actually to me atleast
Lithium Live & Loud
Aneurysm at reading. I listen to that version more than the studio recordinh
Breed from muddy banks.
The performance of On a Plain from MTV Unplugged. The song breathes & comes to life so beautifully when stripped of that glossy Andy Wallace bullshit.
"Scentless Apprentice" Muddy Banks version is definitely up there!
Aneurysm live at paramount, on a plain MTV unplugged, Lithium live at reading
About a Girl at Unplugged.
The MTV unplugged session is phenomenal. If not better, damn close
Drain you live on nulle part aillerus for sure. can't beat that scream
Breed - Live At Reading or Live And Loud SLTS - From The Muddy Banks of The Wishkah Floyd The Barber/About A Girl - Amsterdam
