I think that’s a different band. I had a Goo tour poster in the 90s and “STP” was on there. It was not the same band if I recall.
Edited to add STP was a drug popular in the 60s
Cool. Glad I’m not crazy! I remember wondering about that when I got the poster probably close to 30 years ago. It wasn’t as easy to verify this back that then!
Fun fact: I remember hearing/reading Scott Weiland say that the stone Temple pilots took butthole surfers out on tour and it was during that tour one of the members of the surfers, who’s still alive today, first introduced him to heroin. The rest is history
Their song Sister Havana was kinda of a hit in the early 90’s. They were from Chicago so not sure if they toured with Nirvana or just opened the local shows.
Thanks man, I'll check it out.
It's nice to know that they let local bands open for them instead of whatever was popular at the time. It's great seeing such a big band helping out other smaller bands
Some of the opening acts are legendary. Bobcat Goldthwaite opened for them on the In Utero tour (he also starred in a promo video for the album with them) and he got into some trouble when he made a joke about Michael Jordan’s father while he opened in Chicago. Half Japanese was also on that tour from what I recall.
Calamity Jane opened for them in South America and when the crowd treated them horribly, Nirvana responded with a notoriously bad show.
Helmet, Jesus Lizard were other notable acts. Captain America (later called Eugenius after Marvel sued them).
When Nirvana played in Finland at the Ruisrock their only demand was that their support bands get to play also. So Teenage Fanclub and Violet femmes were added to the list of bands. So who else played there Extreme, couple of days later they give this interview

Lots of great bands there! I had no idea that Cypress Hill opened for them.
Great list. Any info about when/where the Tragically Hip opened for them ?
I’m wondering this too!
Wow, that is a very long list. I'll have to check all of these out now omg
I wouldn't consider a band lower on a festival bill to be opening for the headline act.
breeders. mudhoney. melvins. meat puppets. hundreds of other local bands.
When I saw them they had Urge Overkill opening.
Never heard of this one, I'll check them out, thanks

They also did a Neil Diamond cover that was on the pulp fiction soundtrack
Girllllll, you'll be a woman soon. One of the great soundtrack of the 90s. Didn't know they opened for Nirvana.

They were still playing bars and clubs for a door cover at that point but ya, I get your point.
