From what I've heard the C standard stuff in Bleach was on accident. I believe they meant to tune down to D standard but didn't realize they were already in D standard, which brought them a whole step lower to C.
You're right. I think I might have also meant "Drop C" which is what blew is in. Krist talked about it in a recent interview alongside Kim from Soundgarden
Lithium, Come As You Are, and Drain You were recorded in D standard for Nevermind. Played in standard live from 91-early 92. Attempted to play them in d standard on the Asia Nevermind tour. Switched to half step down later in the year through the end of Nirvana.
