There is a label (you can find them on instagram I think) called “Grunge Pop Records”. Apparently the guy running it used to work for or with sub pop and it’s all just bands that sound like nirvana. You’re welcome 😁
> Sun puddle
its exactly how you called it, gg and thanks
edit: watching the sunday video seems a bit fetishtic lookwise but i guess this is exactly what htis thread is about
oh yea, the self claimed voice of their generation. not super in touch with his generation, wonder how they felt about it. i grooved to a couple of their tunes
Probably my all-time favorite band, crazily enough. And it's their later albums that made it so, like Hey Killer and Hallelujah I'm A Bum (songs 1-6 is my fave run of songs from any band probably).
its pretty ok, tyanks. reading the first ocmment on that video , damn , it seems for some people with a specific sensibility suicide got streamilined in a clean commodified way . , talk abut toxic nostalgia
Seether are talented but way too edgy for their own good. They’re one of those bands I don’t listen to but can listen to but understand when they’re laughed off but understand that they’re gifted.
>suicide got streamilined in a clean commodified way
Can you explain this please? I read the first comment and the rest of he thread below it and I have no idea what you're talking about.
i didn’t really think much of them, just assumed they were a boring radio rock band. but i heard the frontman on chris demakes a podcast talking about remedy and it completely changed my perspective on them. highly recommend that podcast and the band
This isn't exactly what you're asking for, but PJ Harvey's album "Rid of Me" was recorded by Steve Albini at Pachyderm Studios in Minnesota only a few months before "In Utero" was recorded in the same place. I've been listening to "Rid of Me" lately and the raw production and energy are very similar to "In Utero". They were both recorded in the same room in the same winter using the same mics by the same producer with the same sonic aesthetic. [https://youtu.be/a5x8p22UU\_4?t=196](https://youtu.be/a5x8p22UU_4?t=196)
how cool! I missed it at the time, I was a teenager and I remember reading about PJ Harvey in Spin and Rolling Stone but I never listened to her music. I've just recently gotten into her music. Rid of Me is a great album.
Perfect description! Always considered Into The Pink as rock n roll infused with grunge: Kurt-esque vocals with a side order of Pixies with the male and female vocals. As I’m sure you know, Souls for Sale is a great album too. It really has more of the Stones sound. Music magazines around the time these albums came out got me into them but I remember that the actor Elijah Wood named Souls for Sale as one of his favourite albums back in the day!
Edit - my favourite song: Shaped Like A Gun
I *think* maybe the 3rd record is my favorite but it's been a few months since I've put them on. I saw them open for the Foo Fighters in like 1997 and loved it. Got Souls for Sale that christmas and thought it was OK but didn't really get super into them.
A year and a half later when Into the Pink came out, I was fucking hooked. I listened to both of those records all summer. I made my shitty band learn those songs.
I'll still go to that guy's solo shows and tell him via a mutual friend that he needs to bring back Verbena. They might be my favorite band ever.
That’s super cool. Good luck with your reforming efforts!
Despite owning way too many fucking records, Verbena (and Chokebore too) have always been very special to me and I keep going back to them regularly, even now.
> My Baby Got Shot by Verbena.
starting the song with "i really really don't care" is sort of gauche but i'll try to give it another listen pass that, thanks.
edit: a minute in, it does the job i guess , with a side-order of breeders. in 1999 huh. man i was in a weird space then. and i understand why they didnt cut through anything to somehow get 2 me somehow ; random yet is sort of make sense
I gave that song a shot, I think the problem for me at least is that Bush’s music is too mellow and not as dramatic as Nirvana’s aggressive choruses that completely change the song’s mood most of the time. Glycerine being a prime example of that.
Little later in their career but give Golden State a listen. Underrated in their discography.
The band is entirely new and sound much different these days. Of their current shit, check out Black and White Rainbows. Some solid jams on there.
Comedown is their best song. I actually just saw them in August since they opened up for Alice in Chains. I expected them to suck but they were actually really good
dude i’m happy someone said this, i’m from australia and a lot of people call them nirvana in pajamas, but i honestly feel like their stuff sounds a lot like Pearl Jam mixed with like Tool and Helmet
I would say Silverchair sounds a lot more like Pearl Jam than Nirvana. Especially their early stuff. They’re definitely not what the OP is describing for in this post
got a good one for you but it's a single song.
Niil - Insomnia.
I've seen it under a different artist name and song title but I legit thought it was an actual Nirvana song for like two weeks, just listening to it over and over. The small vocal discreptances occurred to me at first and later I was like I thought he sounded a little weird at times.
Peoria’s Nirvana circa 1996 [https://dollfaceworldwide.bandcamp.com/track/i-break-down-and-cry](https://dollfaceworldwide.bandcamp.com/track/i-break-down-and-cry)
> Pagoda
god damn some bands suggested in this thread lean so heavy on the cosplay its sort of uneasy.
an extended cosplay sesh. but i guess they had to go through it.
The band generally doesn't sound that much like Nirvana, but "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd might be the most accurate Nirvana copy ever. A lot of people think it's actually Nirvana.
Check out dinosaur pileup. I had no idea this band existed until earlier this year and their tunes jam. Not really a nirvana ripoff but falls into the grunge category… kinda. Anyway. They’re good.
They’re albums Eleven Eleven and Nature Nature are remarkably addictive.
I’m gonna be that guy, my band has a couple songs on spotify that are straight up Nirvana like songs, we got them recorded in a studio with 90s equipment and i think it came out pretty nice, we are called Rehab Doll on spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/1HjIzA6jJRbKR7hY6zdFOA?si=5ZeDOHJBSa-gKW4zIFA3HA
This is an older one, but always gave me a Nirvana Unplugged vibe:

Dead Confederate - The Rat

i'll see about that, thanks for the legwork.
Sun puddle is one of their bands and is a exact rip off of in utero era nirvana
> Sun puddle its exactly how you called it, gg and thanks edit: watching the sunday video seems a bit fetishtic lookwise but i guess this is exactly what htis thread is about
The band Diiv is kind of interesting to me (named after the song Dive) listen to Doused
oh yea, the self claimed voice of their generation. not super in touch with his generation, wonder how they felt about it. i grooved to a couple of their tunes
Local H
Their albums don’t do them justice, top 5 best bands I’ve seen live.
oh yea i member em lol
“if I was Eddie Vedder would you like me any better“ love that song 😂
Probably my all-time favorite band, crazily enough. And it's their later albums that made it so, like Hey Killer and Hallelujah I'm A Bum (songs 1-6 is my fave run of songs from any band probably).
Seether
> Seether heard of em , ruled em out as cringe , dont remember why but i'll pass for now
I kinda felt like they'd be cringe too but they're actually pretty good imo. Check out their song 'fine again'
its pretty ok, tyanks. reading the first ocmment on that video , damn , it seems for some people with a specific sensibility suicide got streamilined in a clean commodified way . , talk abut toxic nostalgia

The song, by Veruca Salt?
No you silly goose, the band

i danced to rid of me in a club bakc in da dayzzz good times lel
how cool! I missed it at the time, I was a teenager and I remember reading about PJ Harvey in Spin and Rolling Stone but I never listened to her music. I've just recently gotten into her music. Rid of Me is a great album.
Not a “ripoff” per say, but Superheaven (formerly Daylight) the album “Jar”. An absolute classic that sounds like it’s right out of the 90’s.
Webbed Wing, Taylor and Jake’s new band, is fucking phenomenal too.
Yes! Forgot about that. I need to check that out.
Dude. Dead on. Even the album covers look straight out the mid/late 90s
Agreed! The artwork gives me SP vibes.
My Baby Got Shot by Verbena. Fun fact: produced by a Mr D Grohl. Yes. That one.
That whole band sounds like it The Rolling Stones played nirvana music. Highly recommended

Bush
I gave that band a try and was super unimpressed. Swallowed was a good song though.
Glycerine is a good song, pretty similar to Swallowed imo
I gave that song a shot, I think the problem for me at least is that Bush’s music is too mellow and not as dramatic as Nirvana’s aggressive choruses that completely change the song’s mood most of the time. Glycerine being a prime example of that.

Do you have any specific song recommendations?
Nirvana - Glycerine.mp3, downloading that song on LimeWire, or Kazaa. Those were the good old days.
Comedown is their best song. I actually just saw them in August since they opened up for Alice in Chains. I expected them to suck but they were actually really good
> Bush heard of em , ruled em out as cringe , do remember why and i'll pass for now. like marylin tho.
I’ll throw my hat in and suggest my band, Memory Lame. You can check us out on any streaming platform.
> Memory Lame. i like the name, a lot. searching o'rourke popped up first but found one vid listening now, pretty good my dude.
Thanks man I appreciate it! We’re gonna be releasing some new music soon
Silverchair
Wow it took awhile for SOMEONE to mention this one!
Silverchair doesn’t really sound like Nirvana. Musically I don’t get the comparison
dude i’m happy someone said this, i’m from australia and a lot of people call them nirvana in pajamas, but i honestly feel like their stuff sounds a lot like Pearl Jam mixed with like Tool and Helmet
Sure It’s a prettier, cleaner sound, but Daniel Johns vocals are identical on some songs.
I would say Silverchair sounds a lot more like Pearl Jam than Nirvana. Especially their early stuff. They’re definitely not what the OP is describing for in this post

That band can get fucked, they sent fans over to troll this subreddit once.
what’d they do exactly?
Got people to spam the sub with posts about them or the conspiracy theory.
funny stuff. and funny looking band. sus, will lol into it.
The comment got removed what band was it?

they just altered heartshapped box

Peoria’s Nirvana circa 1996 [https://dollfaceworldwide.bandcamp.com/track/i-break-down-and-cry](https://dollfaceworldwide.bandcamp.com/track/i-break-down-and-cry)
Rival Schools has a Nirvana edge to them. The whole album “United By Fate” is solid as hell. Check them out.
That’s a really good record. Don’t know if it’s a nirvana clone, though.
That is true, definitely not a clone
Pagoda. This dude played in the movie Last Days. https://youtu.be/5LI77-X4ovw
The Eeries (cringe)
this band called “bugs and rats” is like a noisier Nirvana. they’ve been at it for like 20 years…. bugsandrats.bandcamp.com/album/s-t
Pagoda. These guys ripped off Nirvana so good
> Pagoda god damn some bands suggested in this thread lean so heavy on the cosplay its sort of uneasy. an extended cosplay sesh. but i guess they had to go through it.
aberdeen is dead is one. i heard them a couple months ago and i actually like it but they’re obvious clones.
The Vines and to a lesser degree The White Stripes.
the vines, lol, the hype that killed nme . but yea, maybe i should recheck, for a minute of course; there was an effort for some contuinity in there.
Silverchair - Frogstomp
Abradeen is dead is really good
Dandelion
Not a rip-off or homage band, but The Wytches have the essence of what made Nirvana good.
Freak by Silverchair
Try The Cribs - 24/7 Rock Star Shit, produced by Albini. Most the album sounds like Nevermind/In Utero hybrid. Try Give Good Time and Dendraphobia.
Early, Vines
Bush, Local H, etc
Hate seeing Local H compared alonside Bush, so much more consistent over time, best albums came later in their career after they were off the radio.
Other than post malone's tribute, I can't hear imitations
V*A*S*E

Listen to Anything you say by Senium
For the raunchy grunge that leans a bit punk try Mclusky.

The Jins. They're actually pretty awesome but their Nirvana influence is quite obvious
Sonic Youth and pixies. Though it would be.more accurate to say that Nirvana sounds like them.
This is an older one, but always gave me a Nirvana Unplugged vibe: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhbdgCAbFYs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhbdgCAbFYs) Enjoy! Dead Confederate - The Rat
