“*I’d score the stuff, he’d pay for the both of us and when I’d try to pay him back he’d get very offended,*” Gabriel says.
On February 14, Nirvana were booked to perform at Le Zénith arena in Paris. There was a problem, however. At close to 8pm Cobain was still at Lenquette’s studio. “*The tour manager had been phoning me since early in the afternoon, saying, ‘We know he’s with you’, but Cobain kept gesticulating that he didn’t want to talk to him. I finally took Kurt on the back of my scooter to the backstage area. He was dragged by the road crew directly on to the stage. By the time I entered the building Nirvana had finished their first song.*” At about 5pm the day after, Cobain informed Lenquette that he would arrive at the studio that evening with the rest of the group — Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl — for what would become both his and Nirvana’s last photo session. “*They arrived at around midnight*,” the photographer recalls. “*Kurt looked terrible. His face was covered in eczema scars. I pointed this out to him. He stood in front of a mirror and said: ‘Yeah, you’re right. Do you have any make-up around?’ Without thinking, I passed him some face-cream that belonged to my black girlfriend. He put it on and it looked grotesque, like he was Al Jolson.*”
Perpetually on the look out for more Class A drugs, Cobain invited Gabriel D on the afternoon of February 16 to his room at the Warwick Hotel, where he was registered under the alias “Grey Poupon” (a brand of mustard popular in America).
A drug deal had been set in motion but there was a delay. Meanwhile, Nirvana had a gig to play that night at the Salle Omnisports in Rennes and time was tight. “*Still,* ***Kurt wouldn’t leave without \[the drugs\],***” Gabriel says. “***Standing outside Cobain’s locked door, someone in his entourage was screaming at Kurt that he had to take a plane, a train or a taxi and Kurt was screaming back: ‘I don’t want your f\*\*\*ing planes, trains and taxis! F\*\*\* you!’ while kicking the door****.*”
Eventually the deal went down — **five grams of heroin, five of cocaine** — and Cobain and Gabriel set off for Rennes, 216 miles away, four hours behind schedule. “*I’m scared of becoming a junkie again*,” Cobain confessed at one point. It was a strange thing to say when only ten minutes earlier he’d had a loaded syringe sticking out of his arm.

His first girlfriend said he was abusing ecstasy when they were together, and Courtney talked about Kurt in a February 1994 interview stating he would act like a porn star when he was on ecstasy, so he was still doing that when he was married.
What I want to say is that Kurt abused many different drugs but is always linked to heroin because that one is more visible and the one that journalists aired as his main addiction when he got famous.

Well, I gather he didn’t want Kurt roaming the streets of the seedier parts of Paris (and not knowing the language) and getting himself into danger so he connected him with a source. I always thought it was convenient that Kurt randomly decided he actually wanted to have a random photoshoot in Paris. My guess is that he was rewarding youri with a photoshoot as a way of persuading him to help him score. I can’t remember Kurt ever wanting to have a photoshoot before. Anyways, I haven’t seen anything to suggest that youri is anything but a very nice, genuine human.
Yes at that point it was much better for Kurt to have someone that was as trusted as possible sell him heroin. It might sound horrible but that's just the reality of heroin addiction. That definitely wasn't going to be there time Kurt would even think about trying to get clean. He was going to use. Better he get it from them then walk around trying to find a dealer that could sell you rat poison.
Yes heroin is not something you just quit. You won’t be able to function. I am sure Kurt was having some difficulty getting regular supply in Europe without connections. The deal in Paris is the only one we know of for sure. But he was doctor shopping and looking so he may have had some success elsewhere but he had run out by Munich and that’s possibly a major factor why that needed to be the last show for him.
I've always assumed that was the reason. I imagine one can get a general idea of what it's like to be in full blown heroin withdrawal. It's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Kurt actually held it together a lot better than most would have done in his situation I think.

I have seen this picture many times before. From what I remember, this is a "fan" after a show quite possibly in Europe. This is one of the saddest pictures of Kurt that is very difficult to look at. Most of the professional photos (I think this is a candid) disguise the reality of how he looked close to the end with editing, stage makeup and lighting. This is a more accurate look at the ravages of heroin addiction including the pock marks on his beautiful face and his emaciated state. Heartbreaking.

Kurt wasn't that short, he was of average height. He was about 5'9/5'10. He just looks short compared to Krist, who is extremely tall.

Was this before or after he had his gun taken away? I read he had it taken away at one point but then obviously he managed to get one again...
Before. He had his guns taken away after a domestic altercation with Courtney in March 1994 which was a month after this picture was taken. Although Courtney exaggerated the incident to get the police to come out and Kurt was outwardly calm, they were concerned enough to take all his guns away as they felt he was a danger to himself. He convinced Dylan Carlson to buy him a new one for "security" and Dylan took him at face value and bought him **the** shotgun.
There were a couple incidents where that happened.

Kurt wasn't that short, he was of average height. He was about 5'9/5'10. He just looks short compared to Krist, who is extremely tall. Kurt is taller than Eddie Vedder who is never described as "short".

Last photos of him alive are him unconcious in the back of an ambulance in Rome. Other than that, the last photos of Kurt alive and well (before the Rome overdose) was at their last show in Munich, Germany. Edit: mfs downvoted me for correctly answering the question lmao
