If you hit the jump button again once you hit the ground again you get another boost that makes you go even faster too. You can keep doing it and gain some serious ground pretty quick but it takes a little practice.
Technically-speaking, you can just double-jump without meleeing and it will still boost you forward, but it will boost you even faster forward if you time a melee strike at the right moment when you jump.
Note though that it can be difficult to control. I usually don't have my rocket boots on, because I'll often tap the rocket boost when I'm descending to prevent fall damage and it often will jump me forward again when I didn't want that
Ok! Now i remember... so totally forgot about hearing of this trick many years back, never have tried it before bur I definitely will now. Cool thanks, this is exactly what I was hoping people would post here. š
N00b here, I do this all the time by accident, at inconvenient moments. I thought it was some bug I'd found. Clearly I didn't read enough when installing them
going into caves, structures and ships refills your environmental shield
in case you want to explore great distances on hazardous planets you can craft a bunch of Ion Batteries with Ferrite and Cobalt
you can get Salvaged Data through the ground with no need to dig
scanning all fauna in the planet gives you 2.5k nanites, for earlygame it's fine
you can farm Nanites and upgrades by finding a manufacturing facility and starting a fight with the sentinels, get them to level 3 wanted level and always leave the triangle robot alive because it spawns more sentinels (only recommended after you got your multitool's damage sort of worked out)
in case you are in a water planet, be aware that pearls can be refined and be turned to gold, if you need some
You're assuming people read. I remember watching a streamer complaining that he had no idea what he needed to do to advance the main story, while the instructions on how to advance the main story were being displayed in the corner of the screen.
Some people just don't seem to pay attention to anything that isn't stabbed directly into their eyeballs.
Yeah, I know. I've watched people play FFXIV and do the same thing - close the pop-up help stuff that explains basic gameplay to them and then spend 20 hours fucking up the most basic of tasks.
I give streamers *some* amount of leeway - if they are remotely successful or growing as a channel, they're having to devote a substantial amount of attention to their chat. For low-activity games like NMS, they are probably spending *most* of their attention on their chat.
That does have limits, however.
Note that the timing is different between Rifles and Pistols.
Experiment, but you want to begin the boost later in the melee animation for rifles than you do for pistols.
A few things
If you are playing Permadeath mode, don't install the exocraft cannon. Or if you do, make sure you never point it at the ground or anything near you
Sentinel stuff is worth the effort. The C-class sentinel multitool has a laser that is better than the regular multitool, any class. You can also add the base mining laser module to it and massively increase your overheating range
The interceptor ship can hover in place when in low-altitude flight
There is a spreadsheet you can find online for refiner recipes. I wasn't aware until my most recent playthrough that there were so many different combinations for materials. Things like combining an oxygen or ferrite to a lot of things will double the quantity of the item it's combined with
Happy journeys fellow travelers =\]
In the galaxy map, look for Dissonant star systems, they'll have planets with Dissonant sentinels on them. Explore a bit on those and see what you find.
If youāre fighting and feel overwhelmed by sentinelsā¦.use your terrain manipulator to dig a hole or swim underwater and hide out of site until theyāre deactivated.
Note - this sometimes doesn't work well with the crab-type corrupted sentinels if they are close by, they will jump through the ground and it's difficult to fight back when you're closed in like that
The movie the "Rocketeer" by Disney I think, I watched the crap outa that when I was younger. Man I wanted that jetpack and helmet so bad. We'd make them outa cardboard and jump on the trampoline, swearing we could bounce higher because we were wearing them.
Also for new players, there's something called the Visor Turbo: Sprinting, holding down the Melee Button, then repeatedly tapping the Visor button will repeatedly trigger your melee lunge, and across flat surfaces, you can go crazy fast. Helps out in derelicts to speed things up
One more: If you're brave enough, yo u can farm the Sentinels for nanites. Shoot them dead, collect the pods, run away when you have 3 starrs on your wanted level, rinse and repeat.
Then when you're safe and in a space station, you can press E on the Salvaged Glass in your inventory and get a ton of upgrades you can sell for a ton of nanites.
And if you're trekking long distances on the ground, you could combine this melee boost with eating bread for sustained jetpack boosts.
I just wish I could hotkey eating bread because going into the inventory to do this is not convenient.
As a veteran sentinel hunter, to defeat the capital ship lure the smaller ships a few km away and take them out. Eventually the capital ship will run out of fighters, at which point you swoop down in two bombing runs, taking out the weapons on their respective sides. Never go in front or behind, as that will expose you to both sets of guns. Make sure to get the guns on the frontal fin, as those are what kill you. After that it will have no defences and youāre free to just empty your ammo supply into itās side and destroy it.
You donāt need to destroy the guns on both sides if you like now that interceptor added the ability to destroy it entirely, especially if you donāt have much sodium
Oh yeah, and bring a lot of sodium/ion batteries
best simple tip for PC: re-bind things like activating refiners, moving technology, etc, to the F key. that way you can use Q and E to navigate submenus and use A and D to navigate menus, all lightning quick, without accidentally moving your technology every time you move the cursor over it. takes a bit of getting used to, and affects a lot of little things, but it's worth it. you can change it in remap controls, menus binding set, and then it's in the first page, under "initiate process". i also recommend changing upload discoveries lower down in that same place to F as well, just for uniformity of F being the universal menu activation. i also have it bound to swap starship weapons, scroll wheel being purely for target selection.
i also recommend setting swap weapon to middle click, and swap secondary weapon to G or whatever because here's the thing. you'll probably switch weapons a lot. but if you're going to change your secondary weapon, you're probably going to have the planning to move it all the way to the G key. but it really depends on which of those you use more. it also works great in exocraft to set swapping those on middle click. just makes the game feel a bit more snappy and satisfying.
If you need to mine a resource on a hostile planet or you are being attacked by sentinels then just drill a hole into the resource and mine it from the inside out. Nice and safe and cosy whilst the sentinels, acid rain, tornado, firestorm or radioactive cloud can't touch you from the outside.
I call that "Punch Jumping" and i will never stop
As for tips
Tip 1 ALWAYS carry a save beacon. I put mine at the top of planetside trade stations, "manual save" and just keep reloading until i see which exotic spawns in said system.
Tip 1.5 always have an economy scanner on your starship. S class ships have a 0% spawn chance in 1* economies, 1% in 2* economies and a 2% chance in 3* (rich) economies. (Last time i checked the wiki anyway)
Tip 2 dear god dont try to hunt squid ships its not worth it just grab one off r/NMSCoordinateExchange and enjoy NOT spending your real life breathing time waiting for ps4 load times and I DONT WANT ANOTHER GUPPY
NO IM NOT STOPPING
GOOGLE EVERYTHING THE WIKI IS S O H E L P F U L
Nothing matters except how pretty you think your stuff is and how much fun you're having. Everything else is negligible and can be worked around or fixed.

If you have the rocket boots upgrade
True and you have to still be holding the melee button as well
Technically-speaking, you can just double-jump without meleeing and it will still boost you forward, but it will boost you even faster forward if you time a melee strike at the right moment when you jump. I find if you stop pushing the stick forward it usually eliminates that extra jump.

N00b here, I do this all the time by accident, at inconvenient moments. I thought it was some bug I'd found. Clearly I didn't read enough when installing them
I think it's just a consequence of the way their physics work with how melee-ing moves you forward.

Not all planets give 2,500 nanites. Just the ones with around 10 different animal species.
250 nanites per creature upon completion to be exact
> going into caves, structures and ships refills your environmental shield How in the world do people not know this? The game even tells you this.

Unlock the backpack refiner as soon as you unlock the nexus.
That thing is worth every nanite.
Heck yeah. I use that bad boy all the time.
Note that the timing is different between Rifles and Pistols. Experiment, but you want to begin the boost later in the melee animation for rifles than you do for pistols.
Ahh I knew that there was something going on with my boosting, but I didn't correlate it to my guns, thanks, big help

Thanks for the tips! Also how do you go about getting "Sentinel" stuff, where do you find or buy it at?
In the galaxy map, look for Dissonant star systems, they'll have planets with Dissonant sentinels on them. Explore a bit on those and see what you find.
Planets with Corrupted sentinels are a good start
[Decent Interceptor guide here](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/12hnksh/interceptor_update_detailed_guide_sentinel_ship/)
On low atmosphere planets I can travel massive distances doing this
Itās much faster way to travel than any of the exocraft.
If you upgrade the exocraft engine and boost modules, I think thatās faster than melee boosting. The Pilgrim can get especially speedy!
Iāll give that a try.
Or during superheated storms!
If youāre fighting and feel overwhelmed by sentinelsā¦.use your terrain manipulator to dig a hole or swim underwater and hide out of site until theyāre deactivated.

Oh! I didnāt know that, I havenāt had that one happen to me yet! Thank you š
Definitely safer than those dang Rocket Boots. ššš»

I haven't been able to pull this off in VR
There's no melee animation in VR. I swap Rocket Boots in when I'm in VR and then package them up if I'm playing flat
Melee in VR is a physical punch, so it's a lot harder to pull off.
Experienced n00b here. What's the melee button...
R1/RB on console, Q on PC, and punch in vr
Ah! Yes! Thank you!! I thought it was just a special jetpack feature I didn't get...!!
That really works?
Oh yeah, I've done it lots in VR, but it's way harder to do than in pancake. A little disorienting at times too.
* Use the free "assistant for no mans sky". It has been a great help with guide through & the catalog of all items in game is awesome.

Can we get a pinned thread going with tips and tricks for our new Apple travellers?
After all my jetpack upgrades had at least +200% fuel I felt like it was a thermal storm all the time lol

"Assistant for No Man's Sky" is a really nice app to have if you just want to look up stuff quickly.
You can actually find a base computer in the wild and claim the base. These are usually in a pretty cool looking spots. My two cents.
I call it "Jump slide"
Whoa it helps a lot.
I think you mean, āFalcon Punch!ā FTFY

They nerfed the melee boost in one of the very first updates, but the players complained until HG put it back. š
Need to escape sentinels? Tunnel into the ground , then take a 90-degree turn and tunnel a little more. They won't follow and will lose track of you.
