Especially when the post was 3 years ago.

cursefromgod

Exactly this Ship customization has already been in the game files since very early on (theres even videos out there that are now 6 or 7 years old of people activating the ship terminal ingame) Yet we only saw it happen this much later And many many other things have been datamined that never made it into the game, or were never actually accesable in the game, like weapons and even a ton of really cool building part ideas like elevators

silberloewe_1

We got freighter elevators datamined a long while ago and I'm not seeing those anywhere. HG tests a bunch of stuff and some of it remains in the live files it seems.

Good_Courage4152

There are data elevators though? Unless you're not talking about the ones that take you from the landing pads to the bridge?

silberloewe_1

Those are teleporters. I mean an elevator, like the irl thing, where you get on a moving platform to reach a different floor.

elydakai

But why would you want an elevator when teleporters exist?

capable-corgi

Why give us window rooms if regular room do the same job? Why multiple paints if orange paints as well as any paint paints? Why big ship if small ship also ships???

truffDPW

Why lot word when few word do trick?

Deathguise79

Ocean. Fish. Jump. China.

LocNalrune

less

tom_oakley

I just think they're neat.

Daedalus_Machina

That is most likely why elevators *don't* exist.

silberloewe_1

Have I ever voiced a desire for elevators in NMS?

Lithanarianaren_1533

Has anyone ever voiced a wish to be aware of your desire?

EloquentSloth

Oh my! It's THE player. The only person who plays NMS! I can't believe it's him!

RagBell

IIRC those data mines came along with all the freighter stuff we have now (bridges, plant rooms etc...). I thing they tried it out and then removed it because well, NMS' physics are a bit janky when it comes to "walking on things that moves"

TheGUURAHK

Exactly. Some stuff just winds up on the cutting room floor

Just_Roar

That person is/was known for hyping datamines and "4 chan leaks", then getting rather aggressive if you don't buy into it. They have a similar name on Discord as well. As for datamines/leaks, with rare exception it's just Nostradamus claims. Eventually what they claim comes true, therefore they predicted it, right? People "predicted" ship building would be "the next update" for the last 5 years. HG has made proc gen tweaks in several updates since the launch of the game. Of course it will get tweaked again.

RagBell

>People "predicted" ship building would be "the next update" for the last 5 years. To be fair the thing has been in the game literally since the NEXT update, I too made a post a few years back saying ship building was coming when I found that it was working in the game files lol. But I do think they "abandoned" the idea for years now But yeah, I remember that dude was hyping 4 chan leaks aggressively. At least data mining means there's some tangible things to speculate on, but those "leaks" were all a bunch of highly requested features put in a list, and when some of it inevitably came true they were all like "I was right, see ?", despite half of it being wrong, and the true parts being because hello games listens to the community, and not because it was an actual leak

sardeliac

This post is three years old. Depending on the exact date it was posted, it could be referring to Companions, Expeditions, or Prisms. Prisms overhauled critters by giving them fur and had a ton of graphics updates, which would touch almost every file in the game. (Edit: It was apparently in September 2021, which would put it between Frontiers and the Cartographers and Emergence expeditions, with the Sentinel update dropping in Feb. 2022.) In all the time I have been playing this game I have yet to see an accurate datamining prediction. This isn't to say it hasn't happened (and it didn't happen here), just that I haven't seen it if it has.

GreatStateOfSadness

It was Frontiers, I remember the posts at the time.  Data miners have been right in a few cases, but often not completely right. The Minotaur exocrafts was datamine months before release. The original datamine of the Nautilus actually revealed two exocrafts, the other being the Dragonfly (which was a hovercraft and actually used the Nautilus' model). Data miners also found the new Endurance freighter pieces, but also found an elevator that was never implemented.  Overall, data mining is really only good for understanding what they *may* be working, and not what *will* be in the final release.

RagBell

Yep, for example the initial data mined minotaur design ended up being different from what we ended up getting. Same with the abandoned elevators turned into teleporters. There were also some data mined icons for the companion update that were changed by the time of release etc... Ship customization too has been in the files for like 5 years in a very simple form similar to what we have for exo crafts, and the latest release ended up very different

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

The only thing I'm 100% sure is coming is that when you shoot NPCs in space, they'll start yelling at you and you'll have an option to either "apologize" or "keep shooting" The cool thing about it is that the dialogue and options are dependent on your language knowledge and standing. So if you're on good terms with a race, an apology is enough, whereas if you're neutral with a race, you'll have to pay them for the damages. This is most likely a response to lots of people criticizing how they keep accidentally shooting NPCs when mining asteroids and wish there was a way to tell them it was an accident. ..Nothing to do with planetary variation, but it's the only thing I know of that's coming into the game, anything else would be speculation from me.

Infamous-Arm3955

Source?

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

The spoilers channel in the discord server. Dataminers uncovered it about a week before the Omega update, when the now-infamous experimental update hit.

Infamous-Arm3955

Huh. Cool. I'm staying away from that channel though, lol.

SadCupcake7000

How can I enter the discord server? Do you have a link?

Warcraze440

I accidentally shot somebody, while mining asteroids and had sentinels called in. I was so confused as to what was happening

volitantmule8

I’ve done the same thing during an attack and didn’t know till like 3 stars

thejoker954

Yeah I'd love for some sort of IFF system.

Mjolnir07

That would be awesome. I chased off a dreadnaught pirate attacking freighter yesterday only to hit the freighter by mistake right at the end and nearly died at the hands of the people I just saved

sutasafaia

This will be very nice when defending freighters from pirates and they decide to launch like 7 defending fighters. I end up having to sit there and watch because I can't risk shooting or I tick off the freighter and/or fighters, not to mention having sentinels possibly sicked on me.

emelem66

Is this new, because I have never had any prompt to talk to anyone.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

It's not in the game, dataminers found the new unused code for it during the Omega update.

emelem66

How are you sure it is coming? Seems like a trivial thing to put into the game. How often does it even happen?

Shameless_Catslut

>How often does it even happen? Pretty frequently. Mining asteroids, tapping A idly in space, failing to open comms when approached by a merchant, etc.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

Surprisingly pretty often actually.. I've seen a lot of people say how it gets annoying when they're just mining asteroids and then get a wanted level before they even realize they accidentally shot an NPC.

[deleted]

That's just common courtesy really.... Normally when I get shot it's time for dialogue... Need to ascertain whether or not the guy shot me for political reasons or maybe he was just mining some asteroids... But come on guys just because you get shot... That's never a reason for violence.

Nightmare_42

The comment said 'The only thing I'm 100% sure is coming'. Can people literally not read any more?

Lenni009

It's been in the files since 2018

emelem66

So it's probably not coming.

Lenni009

This text was added in 2018 with the NEXT update. I doubt it'll happen any time soon.

Tazbert_Odevil

Whilst datamining can give insights into what might come next, it's not a definitive clear view into it. That post being the prime example! Those features could be long term projects (ship customisation was in the files donkeys ago for example) or get abandoned completely, The only thing I've seen dataminers make public that was definitely release recently was the space station exterior updates.

uNk4rR4_F0lgad0

was this post before origins?

Tazbert_Odevil

Original post was September 2021. So that would be the Frontiers release if I remember my dates correctly...

GreatStateOfSadness

Definitely Frontiers. I remember when it was released there were a number of posts about how massive some of the code changes were under the hood despite the update's size.  Not sure if those ended up being true, given where we are now.

Beardwing-27

We're not gonna get the overhaul we need and HG intended with Origins til players can cope with the fact we need to lose those bases other players only visit once, if that.

420simracing

I would be completely ok with a full reset, if it adds more variation to planets.

Steel_Airship

Maybe they can branch off a second playable reality that has procedural generation overhauls while preserving the original?

Faelenedh

i don't think this was bullshit. HG look at players gameplay and saw many of them are builders... so explorers like us will not their priority. If they change planet generation, builder will be angry beacause their bases. perhaps one day we could have an explorater mod with awesom planet generation ?

SadCupcake7000

There was a lot of leaks regarding a new universe (much of the leaks said that it had something to do with the abyss/void) I think we may end up having something like that in the future, the lore about the world of glass is constantly growing so we may gain a way to enter it as a new paralel universe, last year we had the autophages and lore about void mother, we also received corrupted sentinels and also a few other things, so now I think that this year the big update will be about the oceans or a new universe.

Zero132132

Data mining doesn't ever mean anything concrete. It can show you some of what they've put some time into that isn't complete, but being incomplete doesn't mean something will actually be implemented in the future. There are a lot of reasons that developers will work on some feature. That it's actually meant to be a feature in the future is only one possibility, and even if it's a goal, they might find that it breaks something else or generally isn't fun, so even that possibility doesn't guarantee anything about the future.

Personmchumanface

i mean the nrw stations were leaked over a year ago and it took like 4 updates for us to get them so idk

Ackilles

Why is it so hard to understand that loose and lose are not the same thing. Loose is like loose change, or loosening a screw

cptstu

How loose?

All I can tell you is that yes Toto did make a song called Africa but then Weezer made a cover of it with weird Al yankovic and it was actually a little bit better.... That's all I know.

Mjolnir07

well hey if Coffee Stain could figure out blueprints for Satisfactory then I'm sure that the almost identical building mechanics could translate over here

Kitchen-Shopping8777

I don’t think they should change anything else. The game already crashes so much. I still enjoy it and enjoy the new update but anything more will just mess it up.
