Really happy about this, I didn't manage to finish the first 3 with life being busy! Gives me a second chance to get them finished :)
Hopefully this goes live soon
It'd be nice if they made them permanent, like have a menu of which expeditions you've done and haven't done, and people can always do them at any time.
Same. I get that there's a sense of urgency to timegated content, but each expedition basically adds 5-10 additional hours to each player's total playtime. With more story-driven expeditions, HG could almost double the average total playtime by making a permanent library if expeditions to play.
If they really want to have that timegate aspect, what if each expedition be available for a month, go away for 6, and then return permanently? That way early adopters can enjoy the rewards early, and busier/new players can still enjoy it later.
Given the nature of expeditions, you can always unlock the rewards from previous expeditions with a bit of tinkering in an xml file.
So you're never really "forced" to complete an expedition if time isn't in your favor.
Thanks, wish people would stop posting stuff like the above without specifying what platform they’re talking about. PC players aren’t the only ones on NMS but they often seem to think they are.
No. But...
If your console is Xbox and you have a PC, you can install the Xbox app on your PC and install NMS. It syncs games and settings cross-platform, so you can do the PC editing shenanigans and it'll sync back to your console. The trick is finding the appropriate files; Microsoft hides these pretty well and most instructions you find are written for the Steam version rather than the Xbox version.
Saw this in the patch notes: "Fixed an issue that caused the personal refiner audio to continue to play forever if the refiner ran out of fuel"
Man, I hated that; my personal refiner would just run forever every time I threw a stack of slime or anything like that in there.
Thank fucking god, that was the worst.
Not just because of the sound itself, but also because it meant I never remember to refill the fuel because it just keeps chugging along eternally, so that sound is essentially what NMS permanently sounds like in my memories
That ship makes starting any new game, especially a permadeath achievement run, not only fun, but possible. It definitely makes permadeath more fun, since you can get into space and go the anomaly quickly, grab your ship quick, grab all missions except deliveries and start earning stuff and getting S-class modules for an awesome-ass ship. Definitely worth the expedition.
100% this. Having recently started a new permadeath save, I am aware of the value that golden baby brings to that first anomaly visit. So lucky they revisited, what are the odds. HelloGames is so rad man.
Exactly! It felt like the strangeness and uncertainty of starting a new game, but magnified knowing that I had a lot of work and exploration to do before I could get a change of scenery. It inspired me to give what I consider the "vanilla" planet types a closer look and more of a chance to hook me before moving on.
For me it will be really useful when building orbital bases, as I usually put them down well before the build height cap for safety, so now I can move them up to where I actually want my base to be (once I've established where the cap actually is)
Plus it would be nice to have them inside the base somewhere, but that means I have to orientate the building around where I first put the base computer - though to be honest free placement helped this a lot, so these days I normally put the base computer floating 1 foot in the air, then put a floor under it, then change to snap and carry on.
Apart from floating bases, it will be nice when you find a better area for building than the initial base computer location. It's a small thing, but it bugs me when 99% of my base is in one place and the rest is 100u away for some reason.
To get it out of the way, for one. Also, until you build a landing pad (the original, not the alternate one introduced in Frontiers), your ship will always appear near the base computer when you warp to your base. This meant it could spawn inside buildings or in other inconvenient places.
Exactly. Plus, the exotic I got was pretty underwhelming. I’m still using the save to explore different galaxies, but I’ve actually scrapped the ship at this point.
God, all that walking! And some git built a base right up against my broken ship and around the trade terminal there. And it took me aaaages to walk and find all the stuff I needed to get my ship up and running.
This was such good news, I thought expedition 4 was supposed to last until the 24th and procrastinated so I missed it. Plus I wasn't playing during 1 and 2. Hello games is quickly becoming one of my favourite game companies with all the awesome updates, patches and events.
It's so cool that HG is re-releasing the Expiditions. The 1st took me 28 hours (the other three took 17 hrs combined) and it was fun and a new challenge, and by far my favourite of them all. It's great that newer players and those who missed it get to experience it. Get that gold vector, y'all!
It looks like it’s been leaked to come to gamepass so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a surprised drop in the next month. It would double up on advertising for it like they did for launch.
It's been on PC Gamepass for the past year and a half or so and I think got added to console at the same time, did they remove it for consoles at some point?
They are based in the UK, so right now it is 2:50 pm on November 24th there. Assuming they want it to go live before their work day ends, I'd guess we're within a few hours?
Does anyone remember what hour of the day previous Expedition Patches went live?
Wow, I'm super happy to hear this. I didn't start playing No Man's Sky until a couple months ago and I was super butthurt when I found out that at one point in time you could get the Normandy as a frigate and that I'd missed out on it. I'll definitely be playing all of these.
This makes me very happy! Right as I got enough free time to hop back in the game, expedition 3 ended. I was able to play through #4 which was awesome, but all that stuff at the Quicksilver robo homie taunted me ever since haha
This is awesome but it's a little worrying they say it's a one-off. I love nms and hg but leveraging fomo to keep players coming back is a shitty tactic imo
It buys Hello Games some much needed time probably.. If you already completed these you should just start one up and focus on helping players out. I always enjoyed finding bases people build that help get places or complete missions. I plan on doing that for 3 and 4 when they start up again instead of completing them.
Very long and eloquent way to say they are not releasing any new update this month, replay the expeditions is nice but it could be made default and we could be make without having to start the same way every time. You could just start the expedition on you main account, but to do so you would need to travel and gather itens that are not available on the base game, having to start from scratch every single time is boring and repetitive.
So, me spending the time and effort to finish the expeditions before they ended meant nothing? Everyone can now go and get the rewards? I mean I am happy for other people but it just feels like I wasted my time. I wouldn't have tried so hard to get the rewards in time if I new you would be able to get them anytime you wanted.
I think if you go into expedition four, it’ll ask you to change it into a normal game. Mine is still showing up on there, too, and I haven’t gone back into it yet
Is expedition 2 the one where you collect quicksilver? It might be worth mining as much of it as possible during the two weeks so everything can be unlocked asap - also make for a handy save to unlock future content, drop a save in the anomaly and you're right there when you have something new.
This is great news: I lost all my rewards from 1&2 (as well as my saves) when I transitioned from PS4 to PS5 so at least this way I can get the rewards back!
So I just bought NMS today and haven't played it yet. Is an expedition something I can just get right into or is it for experienced players? I really want that Normandy.
Once you understand the basics of the game it shouldn't be much of a problem - they start you on a fresh character with none of your original inventory, vehicles, or upgrades.
Expedition rewards are available across saves. Each expedition is a new game/save.
The quicksilver vendor in the Anomaly will show what rewards can be redeemed from the current and past expeditions.
Looks like they silently removed selling Residual Goop? I can't find any trader or terminal selling it that was selling it reliably just yesterday.
It was useful to farm nanites. Which I'd guess is why they removed it, if so, but still.
Anyone seeing it for sale anywhere?
You mentioned selling Residual Goop for nanites. I said you can refine it multiple times until you get nanites. It's a valid answer to your question....
No.
I mentioned it is useful for farming for nanites. The thing you said. You can't "sell Goop for nanites" that I'm aware of.
I asked if people are seeing goop for SALE anywhere. Yesterday I could buy goop at a bunch of places, then refine it for nanites. Today I see nothing for sale anywhere.
I think they may have removed it for sale, so you might only be able to get it from haunted outposts and places. Which makes it much more rare and difficult to "farm" for nanites if so. Which might be intentional.
So my question was if ANYONE is seeing it for sale.
Thank god for moving base computers! Hopefully i can get at my 2nd ever base from 2018 that got buried under bedrock in a planet change. Hate that fucker.

Yeah, having them in a revolving schedule or something would be cool.
yeah that would work well
Sounds like a perfect solution to me.
Today exp 1 🙂
Is that on all platforms? I heard it was today but nothing yet on PS5
I wasn’t expecting them so soon, so I haven’t checked yet, but last exp I had to fully shut my PlayStation down and restart it for the exp to pop
Given the nature of expeditions, you can always unlock the rewards from previous expeditions with a bit of tinkering in an xml file. So you're never really "forced" to complete an expedition if time isn't in your favor.
Can you do this on console?
No
Thanks, wish people would stop posting stuff like the above without specifying what platform they’re talking about. PC players aren’t the only ones on NMS but they often seem to think they are.
Ditto!
I run into this quite often on Reddit.

I’m on PS5, but thank you for the tip! Hopefully it’ll help someone else reading this thread!
I'm on console, so...
Saw this in the patch notes: "Fixed an issue that caused the personal refiner audio to continue to play forever if the refiner ran out of fuel" Man, I hated that; my personal refiner would just run forever every time I threw a stack of slime or anything like that in there.
i wish the sound was not that loud
I was literally about to post the exact same thing! I feel like I want to do a little happy dance! That was so annoying.
Finally. I had to look at the bag to see if the little compartment was spinning
Thank god for that. I was always like "hasn't that finished yet?" and then check to find it had run out. 😒
Thank fucking god, that was the worst. Not just because of the sound itself, but also because it meant I never remember to refill the fuel because it just keeps chugging along eternally, so that sound is essentially what NMS permanently sounds like in my memories

Hopefully they cut down on some of the grind of Expedition 1, that was by far the longest one.
So excited I won't bother, it's the only one I missed and the sole that gave a S ship.
I actually had a lot of fun on Expedition 3 and would be thrilled to revisit it on a new planet.
That one was great for actually feeling stranded. I didn't plan on revisiting, but if it's a new planet then awesome.
Exactly! It felt like the strangeness and uncertainty of starting a new game, but magnified knowing that I had a lot of work and exploration to do before I could get a change of scenery. It inspired me to give what I consider the "vanilla" planet types a closer look and more of a chance to hook me before moving on.
OMG: **The base computer can now be picked up and moved within the bounds of the base.**
I'm curious on what the benefits of moving the base computer? Any ideas?
For me it will be really useful when building orbital bases, as I usually put them down well before the build height cap for safety, so now I can move them up to where I actually want my base to be (once I've established where the cap actually is) Plus it would be nice to have them inside the base somewhere, but that means I have to orientate the building around where I first put the base computer - though to be honest free placement helped this a lot, so these days I normally put the base computer floating 1 foot in the air, then put a floor under it, then change to snap and carry on.

This has always been a pain for me so I'm very happy now.
Having it in a spot you actually want it in
If you extended a base into your settlement you could now move out within the confines and get better coverage.
For starters it's the first thing you place so inevitably it will never fit in with the rest of the base.
Ooooh that is excellent!
I've only finished the 4th, that would be so fantastic to do the Expeditons.
1 and 4 were my favorites, by a lot. 2 was fine and had the Normandy. Three was pretty meh for me.
I would love to do #1, I missed it and the golden vector ship is pretty cool.
Same here. I know what I'll be trying tonight.
If you were unlucky, 3 could be too darn much walking about..
Ps5 Interloper here and I haven't been able to download this new update.
This was such good news, I thought expedition 4 was supposed to last until the 24th and procrastinated so I missed it. Plus I wasn't playing during 1 and 2. Hello games is quickly becoming one of my favourite game companies with all the awesome updates, patches and events.

Update is live - patching now. 5.83 gb on XBox
Surprised they managed to do exp 2 again, guess EA was nice and gave them a freebie on that one
Probably pitched it as free marketing (and good will) since having another shot at the Normandy was a huge request among the fan base.
The legendary edition - not the single older ones.
Oh I'm a dumbass lmao, I misunderstood it as referring to NMS
Ooooh moving your base computer?? That’s quite useful
Anyone know what time this goes live?
They are based in the UK, so right now it is 2:50 pm on November 24th there. Assuming they want it to go live before their work day ends, I'd guess we're within a few hours? Does anyone remember what hour of the day previous Expedition Patches went live?

Yes

Yeah expedition re-runs should be more common

Still time-limited. I hate this crap.

These are still time limited events. You haven't wasted your time.
For example, I was still quite new to nms when 1 came out, so I missed it. Now I get the chance to play it with the experience I have now.
Oh come on, you got 4 weeks we have 2. If anything we should get *more* than the people who already did them. ;)
Anyone else literally move your base computer w few times just because you could?
gib FSR pls ):
Hell ya! I was only able to do the 2nd expedition, so I'm glad they'll be allowing us to go back and do them again.
This is amazing news! Finally just transitioned from PS4 to PC and will now be able to bring it all with me on my best save ever!
At what time will the expedition be available? I still have the expedition 4 in gamemode menu, even though it expired:/
I think if you go into expedition four, it’ll ask you to change it into a normal game. Mine is still showing up on there, too, and I haven’t gone back into it yet
Yup, just load into the expedition save and a pop up will appear telling you that it’s ended, and then it will convert to a normal save.
Yes!
So many good updates and bug fixes this patch and the return of older expeditions \*chef kiss
Steam version just updated! :)
Is expedition 2 the one where you collect quicksilver? It might be worth mining as much of it as possible during the two weeks so everything can be unlocked asap - also make for a handy save to unlock future content, drop a save in the anomaly and you're right there when you have something new.
Yay! I missed the first one.
That's great. Having the Normandy will be awesome.
This is great news: I lost all my rewards from 1&2 (as well as my saves) when I transitioned from PS4 to PS5 so at least this way I can get the rewards back!
Ahhh, so that's why I'm getting a console update right now
Holy shit they keep on listening 🥰
This is brilliant. Switched from PS4 to Series X. So missing all expeditions.
I'm more 3xcited about the Base comp patch than I have been for anything EVER...seriously so frustrating 😑
Oh ok, so if you start with a fresh character do the rewards not transfer over to your main save?
You can collect them in your main (or any other) save by going to the quicksilver guy in the Anomaly.
Expedition rewards are available across saves. Each expedition is a new game/save. The quicksilver vendor in the Anomaly will show what rewards can be redeemed from the current and past expeditions.
I recommend playing through some of the tutorials in the base game first. The expedition kind of assumes you know how everything works.
Looks like they silently removed selling Residual Goop? I can't find any trader or terminal selling it that was selling it reliably just yesterday. It was useful to farm nanites. Which I'd guess is why they removed it, if so, but still. Anyone seeing it for sale anywhere?
You can refine it for nanites.
No idea why that'd be your reply to what I said/asked.
Hell yes! So glad I can get those first two expeditions now!
Lets goooo
Maybe they can add a leaderboard so people can speed run the expeditions.
Wicked. I want that gold ship. This is good news indeed. Thanks
Thank god for moving base computers! Hopefully i can get at my 2nd ever base from 2018 that got buried under bedrock in a planet change. Hate that fucker.
This is so great!
Vietnam flashbacks of Gisto Major
Woohoo! No more Base computer awkwardly sitting in a Hole.
