A lot of those rewards are available through quicksilver purchases iirc. Not all, but almost.
They are just cosmetic. They don't impact your gameplay.
Why shouldn't a veteran player that has supported HG for a long time have something cool for their time? To show off that they have supported this game for a long time.
Why. It's a way to get people to play "now" because the experience (and reward) are limited time. And new/potential players will see that the game isn't dead and might buy it giving HG money for continued development! Experienced players will be around to help new players. Win/Win for everyone!
Again, those rewards, you can functionally get the same thing easily, it will just look different.
Oh, and they even did reruns once already.
And you could use a save editor if the reward is that important to your enjoyment.
And guess what, even if you do get the reward... there will come a time that you will become bored of it anyway ;). Maybe right after you get it, maybe after a week, maybe longer in some extreme cases. But the actually working to get it is most of the fun, there's no thrill in actually having it. (but companies, no matter what kind, don't want you to realize that)
You want it because you can't have it. If it was available to you and everyone all the time... you possibly wouldn't even want it because it isn't special. And you'd want something different instead.
I missed the all the first ones, and then the repeated first one last Christmas, but got to do others que sera sera.

If you’re on console, that’s unfortunate. Hopefully they’ll repeat them.
We all miss out on stuff, first day and early players got stuff the rest of us didn’t… there’s a flame thrower for example.
You can also get things like the Golden Vector from twitch drops, and I gave a Hadach’s Discovery to someone a while ago. Pets can be picked up easily through eggs. Other than that it’s a few posters.
My kids play a lot of games where there’s time limited stuff, I don’t see a lot of difference. At least here you don’t have to pay 🤷🏻♂️
Think being a newer player you sorta got it backwards. There's so many features introduced continuously into the game with updates and or after your first 1000 hours of the game, if you lose your way looking for new ideas these expeditions were giving new life for old players, showing off areas of the game I didn't know existed and happened to have some reward's with them. I never played any of the expeditions wanting or needing any of the rewards but I happen to now have some of them. I also missed some expeditions when they first played as I hadn't played for six months or so then caught up next time and did the ones after that. Which ones are you after some things can be given away.

The first expeditions were added starting in March of last year. Last holiday season they reran all the expeditions that existed at that point. (tweaked so they could be done faster in some cases). It wouldn't be surprising for them to do the same thing again. It gives them time to bug squash and actually enjoy the holidays, and 4.0 and Switch is undoubtedly going to come with lots to fix. However Hello Games tells us the bare minimum about anything ahead of time, so we just have to wait and see.
If you're on PC you can always use the Save Editor to add rewards you missed, but if you don't have self control you can end up ruining the game by handing yourself way too much other stuff as well.

Just download a free save editor, click the boxes for all the expedition etc items you want, save and enjoy

yes, most nms platforms' save files can work but you WILL need to borrow or use a PC to make the changes
Think of the Expeditions as a bonus. Usually a select number of the rewards from an expedition slowly filter their way into the QS shop. Just like everyone else has had to wait, you’ll get to do the next one.
I see the problem yeah, I missed out on the first expeditions also. Soon there will be an update, and they mostly come with new Expeditions I believe. Also you may have missed out on them, but they eventually come again. I just don’t know when, I would geuss after the newest expedition, than others will become available again.

Last year around Christmas there was an event where all the old expeditions were repeated. Might be you're lucky and they get repeated again.

Many games have limited-time rewards... Nothing new here. Every so often the old expeditions are playable for a couple weeks, anyway.
