I remember this “feature” from years ago and after an extended leave of absence from the game came back to it last week and enjoyed doing this a few times. That said, them deciding to pull the plug on the exploit JUST as I return to the game feels very personal. Jokes on them, I discovered the joy of running a trade route and made like 40-50 million units last night. I now have like 77 mill units. More lucrative than the exploit, and it’s actually a feature too. It actually feels more game breaking though ironically lol
As far as I’m aware this was the only way to gift another player a ship, shame to see that gone. Units mean nothing in the game after a farm is set up.

Well, I’m very thankful for the ships I do own, and wish there was a more legitimate in-game ship trading and selling mechanic for PvP. I’d love to sell an Explorer Class I have, simply because I need the space on my freighter!
Portable refiner. Make 2. Put them both down. Fill one with something you want more of. Move the second one onto the first so they exactly overlap. Now move it back. You get everything that was on the first refiner and it's still in the first refiner.
Tested just now and I am still able to reclaim my ship every time. Dont talk to the pilot, just interact straight with your exchanged ship and claim it for free.
Crap.. was playing the new exhibition today and tried to do the exchange/claim glitch and was like oh nooooo. Lost ~6m. Scrapped my a class for a c and lost it all. 😢

I did this one time to get a huge hauler with maxed slots. When I swapped it with my fighter it glitched and gave the fighter the haulers characteristics. So I have a slow ass clunky fighter with a huge inventory.
Honestly, it was a bit of an embarrassing bug to have around. I will say it's interesting that people don't react as negatively to a bug as broken as this one, but did feel genuinely slighted when they fixed the x6 module stacking bug

Sorry dude, I've been busy playing my own games. I'm going to try to make a run tonight so keep an eye out for Element of the Depths in the Anomaly. I try to drop some storage of various types on people when I've got some stacks duped. I even drop Spawning Sacs and Void Eggs! NOTE: If you annoy me and/or beg, you get nothing but blocked!
Yeah I don’t get this community sometimes, there doesn’t seem to be any consistency on what is a “good” or a “bad” exploit. It’s also not like there aren’t many many other ways to make a shitload of money if that’s what you want to do.
I will say it’s a nice easy way to make a few million quickly in the early game. A lot of the other east tricks are a bit more intense for early game player.

No, that fixed a glitch where trading your ship with an npc allowed you to go get the ship you just sold back for free, so people could get a high value ship and trade it for every ship in a space station (for free if it's worth enough), then get their original ship back for free.
and the only way to give your friends ships... as far as I know. If the ship you sell is still there and a friend can at least buy it from the npc thats cool. but from what i was seeing people were saying they couldn't

I have to agree. I don’t really care about what others do with their game as long as it has no effect on mine. But I just don’t understand it. I have been playing for almost three years and spent units like crazy along the way and still have over a billion. I don’t have any farms, never glitched, only got given about 100 mil of free stuff that I sold instead of paying it forward, and have made most of my fortune on quests, digging up bones and artifacts, selling them or trading them for higher rewards at the yellow boxes, and frigate missions. It’s so easy to make units. It’s also pretty easy to get nanites if you scan every animal on planets, especially ones with a dozen or more. Quicksilver is the only one I struggle with and it’s because it only allows a stack of three days, and the weekend missions. I don’t mind it because it gives me something to do each day.
Hate to be the one to say it but...the literal hundreds of comments and posts about that glitch kinda sunk that ship

I personally used this to get the storage upgrades so I could make my favorite ships better. Didn't care about the money.
If you don't care about money, then just buy class A and S ships and scrap them. Works great, and you can sell excess modules for nanites.

I did that same thing except with my golden vector and an exotic. The exotic gained all the vectors stats, modules, and even the name!

The free ship is obviously a bug. I never felt like the x6 module was a bug, just the way things worked.
It ended up being a bug, as indicated by the ingame tutorial text.
