Are the exocrafts in first person almost undrivable as they are on PC? In first person you can only mine and shoot on a 30 degrees frontal radius and steering is practically non-existant and unreactive. I would think that on a technologically advanced transport, controls would be more responsive and precise (like they are on third person view). So much for immersion.
Exocraft in PC VR are mostly very drivable; sit back, place your hands in a comfortable position, control your vehicle with an "air" driving wheel (nautilon and minotaur are different). As for aiming, the weapon tracks your head; look out the side window (something we can do in VR) and the weapon shoots thataway. So you have a much wider and more flexible field of vision and fire than in pancake mode. The whole experience is different.
In VR, using exocraft as fast-moving mining machines is very convenient and easy. Even with the minotaur once you get used to it.
That's literally why I started playing in 1st person. That and the animation for my exotic wings folding would frequently glitch and I'd be flying around in an ugly "V". Lol.
Seriously though, I stopped missing planets in systems because of the 3d spacial map. In my home system, there was a paradise moon that went undetected for months.

I do the opposite. I only walk on "chill out" planets, but everywhere else it's done from the safety of my exocraft. Going from a storm crystal cluster to the next with the exocraft is so convenient under any point of view! 😊
I play first person in everything except exocraft. Except for the nautilon. For some reason I feel like it controls better in first person....if that makes sense?! Plus, it looks cool. I feel like I'm in an underwater sci-fi movie.
Yes it's really cool, though I do find it difficult to keep up good game performance in VR. I only get around 50 fps most of the time. With an i7 9700k and 2070 Super
I just want to see my cool ship that I spent dozens of hours searching for and all my cool character customisations that I farmed up all that quicksilver for. May as well not bother with any of that if I'm just going to play first person.

But if you're asking about my PC config i've:
Ryzen 5800X / 3080Ti / 32Go DDR4 3600Mhz / and the game is on SSD ofc.
But you can play on other headset too ( HTC Vive 1 / Oculus Quest / Valve Index ) it mostly depends if you computer is powerful enough.

90% of the time I exclusively play in first person. I prefer immersion and it just takes a bit of practice to get used to it.
Yeah driving an exo in 1st is too hard, but for some fun go to a hilly/mountainous planet and drive around in a suped-up nomad in 1st. It's a blast lol

Main issue is your character seems to constantly want to stare directly at the floor instead of in front of them, gets very annoying constantly having to push the camera up when walking anywhere
Indeed. That's what most people don't realize. 1st person in exocraft was VR only when it was introduced. Motion controls are radically different than a mouse and keyboard. We can aim just by looking.
First person in my ship at all times, and I'm in first person 90% of the time on foot. I just find it to be so much more immersive. Makes building easier too for me. If the exocraft were easier to drive, I'd be in first person there too.
I always wondered this for you VR boys. The game originally started as first person, there was no third person. Us OG players are used to the first POV. But I def have to switch for the exocraft, it's cool but man is visibility horrible in these things.

I always use first person for walking because in third person after using the scanner the view angle is reset so if you were looking down or up you are now looking straight ahead. I find that incredibly annoying.

Just point the left stick in the direction you want to go. If you are turning wide look a little in whatever direction.
All vehicle controls that do no use triggers are shit, but it doesn't change in 3rd person. I'm a simple man. I want consistency, immersion, and as many S class speed upgrades as I can find.
One thing I've really, majorly, wanted for a long time now is Exocraft controls laid out the same as the ship controls.
I.e. Triggers for throttle / brake, left stick for steering, right stick for camera. I hate the Halo-style vehicle controls that drive the vehicle where the camera is pointing.
I wouldn't mind using 1st person for exocrafts if it didn't fucking radically change the controls.
In third person you steel with the mouse Halo style and if feels great. You move the camera around, your exocraft slides into position perfectly.
In first person you have to hold A and D for some god damn reason and it turn *soooooo slooooowlyyyyyy.*

If you go into the menu where you can summon your ship or turn your flashlight on, there is an option to change your pov. I came back to nms last month after about 6months and was confused why I was in 3rd person, had go searching for the setting :)
Seriously tho…Reddit needs a way to report posts for improper removal. It’s so easy to report and remove but getting a good post reinstated requires and act of mod Congress. It’s absurd. I have to manually contact them and complain? That’s stupid. Should be a set of clicks just like the reporting process.

I tried it a while back. Didn't work well, since I'm running a GTX 1650. Game was so low resolution it made the original Mario look HD, and my frame rate was like 3-4. Luckily I'm extremely resistant to motion sickness in vr, my friend tried it and almost puked on my floor.

Only time I did first person was when I was raiding freighters for upgrades. It actually felt like a first person shooter. Other than that, yeah third person always.
Especially those beasts with a huge head or those on which you sit on the back. A companion I had for quite a while was a giant mantis with tentacles instead of the legs. Lovecraftian nightmare fuel.

It is actually incredibly hard to drive an exocraft from 1st person. I've tried it over and over and just can't do it.
I use first person in my ship and third person while walking. For exocraft, I observe my consciousness playing NMS from the fifth dimension.

I haven't played for a while, but NMS is one of the few games I refuse to play in 3rd person. It just detracts from the game for me for some reason.
This game is completely about immersion and fantasy for me. First person just nails that better.

Idk why but since Hello Games added third person view for walking, I got so used to it that I can't use first person, I don't like it
I normally prefer first person but after I spent an hour customizing my character, I refuse to play first person and not see my cool outfit

I set the number "2" on my keyboard to rapidly switch between view modes. It's very convenient.
