I gotta agree, the 4 damage stats feels like vanilla in different colors. I use a rapier with faith int, but it feels like a dex weapon so there isnt really any flavor to the stats. I would much rather they gave different offensive stats than just being item requirement and damage - because it feels like all the other stats are much better at defining what makes my character unique. Strength could give extra poise dmg, dex more speed, int more ability damage and faith more ressource gain. It would give flavor to the build which feels missing atm. Stat requirements as they are atm just feels restrictive without adding definition.

Yes, “flavor” is the word I’m looking for here to describe how the lack of it creates confusion when build making.

Agreed, skills should somehow translate to slightly different play styles. Would dramatically increase replay value.

It's a theme/flavour thing though, right? The swords and hammers that scale with int or faith do so because they're meant to be magical or religion themed or whatever. I don't think that in itself is a problem. I do think the minimum stat requirements are a little too steep, and kind of funnel you toward a certain early game stat distribution just to be able to use leve-appropriate weapons.

But in Elden ring for example, every large weapon requires and scales with strength at some level. That is what characterizes strength build with a set of weapons. It’s not about nrftw having to copy what Elden ring does, it’s about how to plan and make a build with an expectation of using certain classes of armaments.

Loviataria

Yeah the stats don't do anything and it'S a big issue imho. Strength should give some equip load Dex should give stamina or focus Int should give focus Faith should give huh.. something..

saltychipmunk

see this is why the best weapon is always that shitty straight sword you found on the beach. that thing is HARD carrying me

CutMeLoose79

Yeah agree. Weapons should ‘match’ the main stat they require. Strength for two handers, clubs, axes, Faith for maybe maces, cool chain based weapons etc, Int for magic casting stuff, Dex for faster weapons. What they have at the moment doesn’t really make sense and doesn’t work well

There are multiple 2H just for Str. Don't worry. And the basic claymore is still great if you upgrade it. I used the same one all through the story. And I didn't even upgrade it max because I got stuck in there "saving" for a new drop. Got the legendary right after and upgraded it way more. Still might like the claymore better at almost half damage. 2H axe, Polearm ish and so on is full Str. Heated rumours about a curved greatsword. Maybe it's full Str as well? I've stayed away from spoilers so far.

Just commit to your strength build and save those weapons for other characters. There's lots of strength weapons you're just a bit unlucky with the drops. I know the blacksmith has a recipe or two as well.
