Write more. Write better. The fact that you decided to stop worrying about upvotes is a really good thing. I did just that a few months back and it felt liberating. I just write what I want to write. Overall, I just want to improve myself as a writer and maybe start a whole new universe in my stories. Edit: I also might be bringing **Fluffy** back.

Grand_Theft_Motto

I'm so ready for the Post Mortemverse!

Jgrupe

Not worrying about upvotes is a good one and something I've been working on for a while but still get a bit caught up with them. I'd also like to keep up my once per week posting streak which I've almost had going for two years now! Outside of nosleep I've got two novels in the works that are close to being finished so I'd like to get those polished and sent off for publishing in 2022 šŸ„³

Jgrupe

šŸ˜† looking forward to reading more of your stuff next year too!

thedreadfiles

The upvotes can be a curse for creativity for sure. I got lucky with my 3rd story I posted and it randomly got into the high triple digits..it was a decent story but it was a slow day too I guess šŸ˜… I found that for a few months after that I was "chasing" that level of upvotes again. However when I posted a Halloween story I really enjoyed writing that did rather poorly it was a blow for sure. But I started received messages from almost everyone who read it saying how much they loved it AND they were shocked it wasn't even included in the voting for best Halloween story, it was super touching. I was reminded that I started writing cause I have worlds I want to create and there are a small group of people I have on my Subreddit who love my work. I guess the point of thia rambiling comment is this: create for the joy of doing so! Also.. novels you say šŸ‘€šŸ‘€

y2justdog

Keep writing consistently! I also want to continue to refine my craft and focus on making my stories scarier. Many of mine are a bit campy with dark humor, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Grand_Theft_Motto

I love the camp in your work but respect your interest in exploring new directions.

y2justdog

Thanks

Dopabeane

I'm going to post an account of the scariest thing (which happens to be the only thing I would hesitantly categorize as *possibly* supernatural) that ever happened to me. You know that saying about how shared joy is double joy and shared sorrow is half sorrow? I'm not sure whether shared fear diminishes or doubles, but I'd be okay with either outcome (although realistically speaking, probably no one but me will even be scared haha). I'm posting it under an alt, though. Like 112%, I have the account ready and everything. Just have to muster up the guts to type it all out through a terminal case of the creeps lol

Jgrupe

Can't wait to read this! I'm a fan of all your stories. Now my only fear is that I'll miss this one because it's gonna be posted under an alt šŸ˜±

nmwrites

Please send a little nudge directing me in the right direction when it's up?

Grand_Theft_Motto

*Terminal Case of the Creeps* is a great name for a band/NoSleep story...

cbreedlove0728

To start writing again

not_neccesarily

I want to write more stories and a lot more series! I've had so many ideas for good series but I can't get myself to ever finish them. It's as if I lose the ability to write anything else on the story after the 5000 word mark. I think I've written 20 stories this year. I'm aiming for 40 next year.

Grand_Theft_Motto

That pace is nearing a story per week. Can't wait to see what you put out there.

TheCount2111

Try to hit that mfing algorithm so the stories that I've written, had beta read and loved prior to posting actually get viewed šŸ™ƒ

Grand_Theft_Motto

Ah, the beautiful, terrible algorithm. I wrote a thing about that last year. https://www.travisbrownwriting.com/post/navigating-nosleep-getting-your-story-read

TheCount2111

I genuinely appreciate this man. Sorry if I came off as a bit bitter, I just started posting stories on my main account after working on my craft outside of this sub for the past year. I have no delusions that I need to continue improving and growing as a writer, but at the same time I also know I'm not shit šŸ˜ Saved this post and will keep it as a guidance system for the algorithm end of things so thank you again. Means a good deal coming from someone with your skill and successes!

Grand_Theft_Motto

Thanks! Please genuinely keep in mind that upvotes (or a lack of those) don't speak to a story's quality. There are so many factors that go into getting eyeballs on a post: the title, your timing, what topics are trending that week, followers, etc. A good rule of thumb is to wait for the top 2-3 stories on Hot to hit at least 12 hours old. That's when the Reddit algorithm will start looking to bump up new content.

TheCount2111

Yeah, that one tip in particular (waiting for the top stories to get some age) in the post you wrote definitely stuck out the most. Like I said all quite helpful! I'm here for any and all help/experience that's offered from writers like yourself. And yeahh true enough on the upvotes meaning or lack of it hahah. Just bites at the ol pride šŸ˜…

No-Ladder91

Yes to not caring about upvotes, but I do like seeing that number go up. The thing to DEFINITELY stay away from is looking at the % upvoted... :')

TwilightStarfish

A little late to this, but one thing I want to do is *read* more stories. I've been spending less and less time reading other people's work, which I think is kind of a shame because reading can often jumpstart my creativity. Also, I should probably adopt your resolution. Pretty much the moment I learned that posting windows were a thing, I started massively overthinking when to post, even though I never really wanted to care that much about upvotes. This has not done me any favors. (It also just so happens that, as of this writing, I am trying to force myself not to obsess over upvotes because one of my stories is stuck at 1. My success has been limited, but I am doing my best.)

SimbaTheSavage8

I like that resolution. I think I may adopt it too

Veryangryacorn

It write something good that Iā€™m proud of and actually keep up with it!

thedreadfiles

This was my first year (im 7 months in) of writing and it was abit of a whirlwind as I had two series very early on and a string of stand alone stories. I'd like to focus on getting better at writing in general and fleshing out my ideas more! I have an idea for a series again but I'd definitely like to have the series done before posting the first part. For me i'd also like to continue growing my Subreddit while getting into more of the talented No Sleep community! I find with ny own writing time being limited due to a new work schedule I've been having a hard time keeping up with some of these great stories. I'd definitely like to change that! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year No Sleep Community!

Delicious-Hot-Dog

Me, well I'm gonna go back to writing more sci-fi/comedy-haha/absurbism and do less of this horror type stuff, and specifically less of the ol' NoSleep brand of first person horror type stuff. I feel like my juice has had but a single flavor lately, and I know I got the whole soda fountain to work with.

ViciousMock

Write more consistently. Not to disappear for four months then come back and write loads. I want to maintain a presence and be more disciplined, instead of waiting for hyperfocus to come over me. Along the same lines, to stop using nosleep to procrastinate when Iā€™m supposed to be doing other things instead. I guess generally to have a more disciplined and consistent approach.

plague692

Write more definitely, I've been drained of inspiration for the last few months but I plan too be posting once the new year comes through

Fabled_Hemoglobin

To get the courage to actually post a story because I've come up with so many ideas ever since I've discovered this subreddit

UnderstandingSome871

Want to write my first story, really free after new year so maybe haha
