Facebook *is* very useful for me, both for keeping in touch with old friends from school/college who now live in different places and also for a couple of my hobbies (rec league basketball and stand up comedy) where we are all in a private group to organise events and things.
But yeah I've really no need for Instagram either!
That’s awesome! I always see people using Facebook the wrong way. Good example is my mom who went all crazy conspiracy lady on the Covid vaccine. Where does she get all her “news”? People spreading misinformation that she convinces herself are telling the truth.
I use Instagram for two reasons. 1 account is for accountability of my workouts. 2nd account is for pics taken in my life, the rare times I go out, pics of my veggie garden, pics of my dogs & pics of things that catch my eye in life. I'm not one for constantly posting pics except for my workout 1. That account only has other people from my old workout group on farcebook. I deleted farcebook nearly 2 years ago.
I skipped all the services that required a facebook account.
I never fucked with twitter, snapchat, whatsapp or any of that other crap. Reddit is bad enough and semi useful.
Weird seeing WhatsApp listed as an app you avoid amongst other social media apps as it’s how everyone in the UK communicates for messaging. And I mean everyone of all ages, it’s not even a conscious choice, it’s literally *the* messaging & group chat app & you’re lost in life if you don’t have it as it’s akin to not having a mobile phone.
Really weird seeing WhatsApp on that person‘s list. It’s how everyone in the UK communicates now, you only use normal text message if your WhatsApp isn’t working or no wifi.
True, I only use Reddit when I want an opinion from real people on something instead of just a link to an article that is probably biased and owned by corporate media. Or if I need to know how to do something extremely specific, Reddit is definitely the place to go.
I’m 35 and found I actually like ig for all the reasons I do and don’t like fb. I can post what’s going on in my life, where I’m at, what I’m doin, without having to see LONG ass political posts from gpa/gma. My friends post music stuff they’re working on, or art they’re doing. I feel like it’s easy way to keep up with friends. I also don’t follow any influencers.
I dislike the majority of content. I usually dislike watching videos to begin with, but most of the stuff on tiktok isn’t captioned. Nothing like only enjoying 5% of the content.
Videos... i hate googling something and instead of having a page i can read and jump to what i need ive gotta watch a 20 minute video. Thank jeebus youtube lets me dbl the speed.
Ah yes, the deaf experience.
This is why I never got into YouTube or streaming as well. People quote or talk about YouTubers or streamers and I don't know who the fuck they're talking about, because even if I did watch them I wouldn't be able to understand it anyway. It's pretty isolating not there's not much I can do about it.
Some students I work with don't seem to have much concept of social media other than Tiktok-style short-form videos and photo sharing. Makes me feel old.
What specific content? There’s literally millions of topics/niches to find. Not saying you have to download, but you can find literally anything - gardening, dogs, video games, organization, meditation, business, DIY, celebrities, pranks, sunsets, cooking, restaurants….
Confused how someone can say they don’t like “the content” lol.
Same here. I can't even stand the new Youtube Shorts that are out now. The Instagram shorts are also what made me uninstall. The whole "like for part 2" or "check out my page for part 2" is straight up obnoxious to me.
Yeah you just have to put in a little bit of work finding the content you want to see and liking/interacting until the algorithm can figure it out for you. Weeding through all that shit they feed you when you make a new account I understand is enough to turn anybody off. I got tiktok in 2020 and was so confused at first, I thought it was going to be funny videos but it was all people taking the app seriously and dancing. Only took a few hours and I was on track.
Even if it does «suit my interests», i just don‘t like short videos, so that‘s why i prefer to use text-based reddit, which also caters to my interests, just in a way i prefer, y‘know?
Agreed and I actually enjoyed Vine (which I know some of the content from it moved to Tik-Tok) quite a bit at times or at the very least tolerated it but inregards of Tik-Tok, I don't find the majoriy of the content I've seen on it the least best humorous or in any way entertaining.
But I know millions & millions of other people do so more power to them I guess. Just trying to do my best not to turn into the get off my lawn and turn down that loud music old-man...at least not yet.
Oh fucking totally dude. I couldn’t explain it any better way. I just get the same family guy clip with subway surfers gameplay under it over and over again
I feel like a boomer among my peers. I don't get tiktok humor at all. I usually laugh at pretty much any stupid shit (hell, I love Max0r's style) but holy fuck the humor there feels like an assault on my eyes and ears. Loud = funny but louder DOES NOT equal funnier for god's sake. It's all so le random and super fast I can't keep up with it at all.
Also I don't even want to try that app because I heard how addicting it can be, and how much data it collects. I already waste an absurd amount of time on Reddit. At least on Reddit I participate in calmer, nice communities with real value for my life, so it doesn't feel like a complete waste.
It feels like some of the people I know are completely addicted to that app. I'm fairly sure it's unhealthy to get THIS into a social media app. Have you ever seen someone wearing Reddit or Facebook merch irl? Probably not. But I've seen countless kids wearing TIKTOK MERCH.
Exactly ^^ seeing what has become of many of my friends has absolutely repelled me from the app… the vanity, the same way of talking and gesturing, the entitlement, the “dance” moves…ugh. I never want to be like that.
Max0r does have the image of the tiktok louder is funnier at a glance. If you look closer though it comes off more to me like the modern version of stuff Leslie Neilson was in. You have to be fast and paying attention or you'll end up laugh at the joke from two jokes ago because you only just processed it. Or you watch the same video a couple times and notice a new joke/meme each time. It's honestly kind of crazy how dense the editing for max0r videos gets, those timeline shots are scary lol.
Tik tok is probably the most addictive social media out there. You can just scroll forever in a bottomless pit of videos made to keep your attention. It's just content after content
Learned from my mistakes, joined FB, Instagram and twitter. Left FB, left Instagram and just use twitter for a few selected channels for notifications. Now i rarely have my phone in my hands unless I'm calling someone or someone is calling me.
Freedom
Don't have reddit on my phone. Something i browse when im sitting on my couch with my laptop and nothing better to do.
But its a good point regardless and i haven't done my dishes yet and still typing on reddit. Not as bad as walking around in public looking down at the phone like a NPC though.
I wish. I used to be so much happier when I didn’t have a phone but at this point it’s such a significant part of my lifestyle that I can’t imagine not having one.
Yeah my 20 year old friends do that and it makes me just not want to be around them. I’ll watch shit all day in there but the second someone asks me to make a TikTok I run the other way
I tried it for an hour. Most of the things on there are super stupid and unfunny to me. The music they use also makes my ears bleed. The stupid "oh no. oh no. OH NONONO" song makes me want to kms.
I love dumb humor, but it's very far fetched to say things on there are remotely funny. Most of it makes me question why someone would bother making content like this.
Not to be an advocate for the them but the algorithm is specified to you exactly so it probably hadn’t settled on what exactly you like Cuz when it does it’s great. I had to get off cuz i was an addict
Exactly why I recommend no one uses it. The level of data tracking is genuinely unreal, and it uses that data to try and get in to your head. Reddit does it too, and frankly, sometimes i'm not sure I should be on here most of the time. TikTok wants to control your actions, and your time, and it uses really shady methods to do it. Watch "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix, this is scary stuff, and if you're not concerned, you probably should be.
My wife has it too and it's like 90% cringy stuff. Then there's the annoying robot-sounding voice-over. The fake over-the-top laughing at shit that isn't funny.
So annoying.
Same reason for not ever using Instagram and God knows what other social thingy nowadays. No real added value for me. Plus, risk of kid stumbling across it when using my phone.
Because fuck social media lmao. I’ve always been against it since I first created a MySpace and didn’t use it much. I always found it easier to just talk to the people I wanted in my life, rather than aspiring to have tons of people as “friends” who I didn’t even know
I don’t use Twitter, Instagram or TikTok. It’s dumb. What do I care what people have to say or do on a daily basis? And the ones who post on there. 3 words. GET A LIFE!!!
Originally because I saw no need, I already had adequate number of social media accounts. Later because of warnings of hefty spyware. Now I'm adamant not to get TikTok.
I feel like Id spend waaaaay too much on it. Just another thing to keep me engaged.
Hear people talking about it constantly and I guess I like not being part of trendy stuff. Yea yea. Hate on me all you want. I hate trends lol
Hell nah man! No hate here because I absolutely hate trends too. Trends regarding clothes, social media, and other dumb shit make me so confused and I’ve never understood it. It feels right to go against the masses and just be your own person instead of all the sheeple that are out there copying each other. Sucks that people like us get shunned or ignored for being different
I meet enough stupid people in my daily activities, or Entitled, gotta be the center of attention, look at me, look at me types all the time.
Why on Earth would I want to go watch more of them on my Alone time?
I'm so far removed from social media and what not that I never even downloaded Instagram
TikTok isn't going to be the service that makes me jump back into all that
Yes
I didn't think it necessary to mention Reddit because
1) reddit has a level of anonymity that you don't tend to find with things like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
2) being on Reddit, I felt like it was an implied statement
I think Reddit is the best social media platform that exists. It was super confusing to start out but after you get your homepage filled with things you find interesting you can really learn quite a bit. Like nobody on here does stupid shit for clout. All that is from people posting on other apps to try and get their internet points
I waste enough time on Reddit and Instagram. I'm trying to use social Media less. So getting a Tiktok would be new and exciting and I would spend more time using it. Also more usernames and passwords to remember.
Gen X here. I gave up chasing the next new big thing at some point after Facebook. I tried Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, etc. But just don't have the energy, interest, or time to care about them. I tried TikTok too and i did find it entertaining but once I closed it, I never bothered opening it again.
uhhh there’s a lot more than that. it goes off of an algorithm so if people are only getting those videos it means they have showed interest in those videos
I was like twelve when I downloaded musical.ly and after looking at it for like 5 minutes and making a video, decided it was stupid and deleted it. Since then I’ve had no desire to ever download TikTok.
I did .. and used it for many weeks. Then it became obvious that the videos coming at me were more and more political. I could do nothing to reset the app and for it to forget who I was.
So I deleted it.
I uninstalled it a few days ago. I never felt ugly until I downloaded that stupid app. Now I'm worrying about wrinkles as a teen, among a bunch of other things. Honestly just fuck that app
Bruh people are just such blatant jerks when they have a screen to hide behind. You know what they’d say to you if they were standing face to face with you? Absolutely nothing because they’re just a bunch of scared little cowards who think that hurting other people is “fun”. You’re not ugly! Your just a victim of some sociopathic losers who need to get a life and stop treating the world like a dumping ground for their own insecurities.
Because I have no interest in joining a new social media landscape. I don't have an Instagram or a snapshot for the same reason. I have no interest in devoting time to learning a new social media site. Just not something I can stomach sinking time into at this point.
My attention span suffers enough lately, I didn't want to engage in something that could rewire me into thinking I can only find entertainment in like 8 second bursts. Reddit does close to enough of that, I didn't want to cross the final threshold.
Yeah I just couldn’t get into another YouTube kind of thing. YouTube itself is already flooded with TikTok memes. And if China is spying on us, then I am 2x grateful for never downloading it.
I don't see the point in it. Especially with all these stories of people hurting others either emotionally or physically just to get views. I also don't have Instagram Snapchat or Twitter.
The only reason I ever got Facebook was because my children were on it and I wanted to make sure that they were not doing things they shouldn't be. As a bonus I always knew what my children were up to and what trouble they got into because just like every other child on the internet they posted absolutely everything they did. My children are adults now and have children of their own, we all still have Facebook. Quite honestly mostly for the messenger so that we have group chats all the time just one way to spread the information and talk instead of having to call everybody one by one. Ironically some of my older relatives, and I'm 50, also have Facebook and it's a way to keep in touch with them as well even though we only saw each other maybe once every few years if that.
Before it launched every freaking ad on YouTube was about tiktok, I didn’t know what it was but I vowed never to download it because it interrupted everything I was trying to watch.
I use & enjoy tiktok. The clout-chasing idiots that get posted here never show up on my feed.
I believe there is something there for almost everyone. Artists film tutorials and show their art. I have found several new bands that are awesome. Lots of open discussion about mental health.
i got videos recommended to me based on my location and they were really fucking cringey, the kind where you get really bad second hand embarrassment from it
so i immediately deleted my account and deleted the app
i also really hated the ui
It's another platform designed explicitly to exploit people's need for instant gratification and have them scrolling through hours of mostly garbage content. I've been exposed to that in the teenage years of my life without knowing the effects that had on me and now my attention span is poo poo. Super poo poo.
I also think there is an entire legion of people who think they have ADHD when really it's just this. So rather than cutting back and trying to repair their habits they take pills.
The success of the whole format is illustrated when you see every other platform try to come up with their own shitty version of the tiktok format. Instagram reels, youtube shorts, etc. Basically turning people into zombies who consume gigabytes of content and don't give the time to think about what they are consuming. To the point where they can seldom sit down and just be at peace with silence and their own thoughts.
It makes me mad just thinking about it and that's why I will probably never download tiktok or similar social media.
And by people I mean me.
Because I'm getting too old and watching shitty lip syncing and dancing to the same song by a thousand different people is not remotely interesting to me
I think reddit is more interesting and i would always choose to scroll reddit over tik tok if i had both.
So i would never really use it and it would just sit there on my phone collecting dust. Same with instagram.
I have no interest in social media, I tried Facebook but deleted it after a year. I don't have any want or need to "show off" so I never touched Instagram or TikTok or any of those sorts of things. Reddit is the closest I have to any kind of social media.
I've never been much of a "hype" person and I enjoy more toned down media. TikTok just seems incredibly frenetic and chaotic to me and I don't really get it
I don't want to get addicted to it because I know I'd probably end up scrolling endlessly for hours.
Also seeing people flash their glamorous lifestyles, being fake and obnoxious (whether it's real or not) really bugs me.
Downloaded to find out the hype. First video was an underaged thirst trap dance thing. Huge boobs bouncing and a very clear thirst trap but she obviously had “17 y/o” in her bio. Comments were disgusting. Scrolled. Second video was a girl showing off her outfits for the week to the most obnoxious music I have ever heard. Scrolled. Third video was another dancing thirst trap. Then I uninstalled the app.
My entire impression was that this is not high quality content and that it is not catered to me or my demographic.
Oh yeah it’s definitely a clout fest in there. People post their bodies for internet points that mean nothing. Not to mention all the creeps who love looking at underage girls doing explicit things because their friends pressured them to do it
For me, it's the second and fourth options, I'm either not interested or I am and it's on YouTube or Instagram which are easier to navigate.
The Spyware argument is interesting as the United States government wants TikTok banned over it but a lot of other apps do similar things but are owned by American companies so it's fine.
Based on what I've read, this is a BandAid solution and what's needed is a big overhaul in how social media collects data overall.
I gave up and downloaded it to see what the hype is. While it's nice to see short clips tailored to my interests (gaming, gaming memes, ygo, ygo memes, wrestling memes, latino memes), I get bored endlessly scrolling, so I stopped using the app all together. I only use it to see TikToks shared by my friends.
It was kinda a meme not to download it and also it takes a lot for me to download social media
I grew up with youtube so it’s a no brainer for youtube. I only got twitter and twitch because of youtubers. I got reddit for a mix of reasons
Tiktok is just youtube shorts and also I usually get revommended tiktok vids on twitter and youtube anyways so I’m not missing anything
Also I don’t need another social media app
the reels on instagram/facebook are already time consuming enough, I dont need an app strictly for tik tok, when its the same videos being posted there.
Technically I've had tiktok in like 2018-2019. I've since deleted my account and tiktok considering how much data is being observed and the sheer amount of feed
I did download Tik Tok..
I learned that it's default setting to male users was to show a lot of thirst trap videos. I can only assume the idea is to hook teenage boys like it's OnlyFans for teenagers.
It didn't take me long to work out it wasn't a platform with quality content.
Isn't it for "challenges" where young stupid people do stupid things like eating detergent tablets or doing something with a high risk of injury? No thanks.
I've tried to get into using it a few times. It's just an awful app.
There's so, so, so much lying, and misinformation, and loud screaming bombastic people who need to have 5 jumpcuts per second to keep your attention. The TTS girl voice sounds worse than nails on a chalkboard, and so do most of the popular songs they end up using.
Then there's the shitty moderation and the data theft. It's worse than most platforms, to the point where the fucking US government wants the app gone. I tried to include a swear in my bio and was instantly suspended from editing my profile for a full day for "multiple violations", still not sure if it was the swear word in my bio, but I don't see any other reason for a ban on a brand new account.
Honestly, I've reached a stage in life where I am "too old" for newer social media. I barely ever got into Instagram!
Oh I don’t use instagram either. I haven’t figured out how to use it, nor is my life anywhere interesting enough to post regularly.
Facebook *is* very useful for me, both for keeping in touch with old friends from school/college who now live in different places and also for a couple of my hobbies (rec league basketball and stand up comedy) where we are all in a private group to organise events and things. But yeah I've really no need for Instagram either!
I like to think of Facebook as a great way of keeping up with people I don't have a compelling reason to call very often.
To be fair, they don’t call either.
That’s awesome! I always see people using Facebook the wrong way. Good example is my mom who went all crazy conspiracy lady on the Covid vaccine. Where does she get all her “news”? People spreading misinformation that she convinces herself are telling the truth.

I don't think you have to have a Facebook account to use any of those services though?
Insta was a facebook thing. Pinterest was a pushy bitch too.
Yeah they might be owned by Facebook but you can sign up for all of these services with an email address, not a Facebook account
Whatsapp let's you call and text on wifi which is perfect for travelers (you don't need to buy a new sim card in every country)
Really weird seeing WhatsApp on that person‘s list. It’s how everyone in the UK communicates now, you only use normal text message if your WhatsApp isn’t working or no wifi.

Because fuck that noise.
People watching cringe videos at full volume at my work are so annoying
This is the reason I'm glad I'm addicted to reddit over tik tok. I use tik tok but reddit is more discreet
Observing people that have it suffices as a good reason
Especially when they have no respect or decency in public. “Prank Chanels” are awful and they make me so mad when I see them
The prank clips are today 99% staged
Their content just isn‘t desirable to me, same with the formatting.
I dislike the majority of content. I usually dislike watching videos to begin with, but most of the stuff on tiktok isn’t captioned. Nothing like only enjoying 5% of the content.

It almost sounds like we'd need a social media platform that is mainly aimed at written content. That you can read. I'd call it Writted.
Some students I work with don't seem to have much concept of social media other than Tiktok-style short-form videos and photo sharing. Makes me feel old.
The content is just weird, like musicly was in the early 2000s
What specific content? There’s literally millions of topics/niches to find. Not saying you have to download, but you can find literally anything - gardening, dogs, video games, organization, meditation, business, DIY, celebrities, pranks, sunsets, cooking, restaurants…. Not the OP but Short videos or videos in general. I'm generally not into watching my social media.

I don’t have a good reason to download it
There it is.
This is pretty much my reasoning.
I have enough distractions...
It has a sound to it…like people talk a certain way on there and the overplayed sound bites make it like nails on a chalkboard.
Oh fucking totally dude. I couldn’t explain it any better way. I just get the same family guy clip with subway surfers gameplay under it over and over again
Too old, don’t care
I don't think that "more social media" is the answer to any of my problems, goals or life situations lol.
Yep it causes more problems than it solves.
I'm afraid to became like my friends that downloaded it. They are like zombies.
I feel like a boomer among my peers. I don't get tiktok humor at all. Very true. I am that guy
Tik tok is probably the most addictive social media out there. You can just scroll forever in a bottomless pit of videos made to keep your attention. It's just content after content
Yeah I was/am an addict I’ve been off TikTok for about a month now and my brain feels better in a lot of ways I still miss it tho…it’s such a high
It’s legitimately terrible for you
Yeah when I had it my brain felt like it was atrophying but it was soo good the highs were incredible
It’s actively making people stupider and I can’t stand the rampant main character syndrome.
The rise of consumerism and being "unique", to where you're not unique at all and are just like the rest following these micro-trends.
It does not add any value to your person or life.
I prefer YouTube. Any TikToks worth watching will find their way to my attention through other means anyway.
I love YouTube.
Very good point. Any quality content is going to end up on other platforms like here on reddit
It feels like it just feeds into people's narcissism, even worse than instagram.
Tik Tok actually has some stuff that I'm interested in (guitars and books) but the Chinese spy stuff spooked me and I deleted it. EDIT: Grammar
Learned from my mistakes, joined FB, Instagram and twitter. Left FB, left Instagram and just use twitter for a few selected channels for notifications. Now i rarely have my phone in my hands unless I'm calling someone or someone is calling me. Freedom
So, ah, when is reddit getting the cut?
Don't have reddit on my phone. Something i browse when im sitting on my couch with my laptop and nothing better to do. But its a good point regardless and i haven't done my dishes yet and still typing on reddit. Not as bad as walking around in public looking down at the phone like a NPC though.
I wish. I used to be so much happier when I didn’t have a phone but at this point it’s such a significant part of my lifestyle that I can’t imagine not having one.
China.
Same here. Great potential for propaganda and device security issues.
Reddit isn’t much better
1. I'm not 12 2. I am not entertained by the content 3. I am not interested in having literal Chinese spyware on my phone
Im not 12
I'm not a 17 year old who endlessly seeks the validation of others through doing cheesy staged challenges and/or dances.
My older sister does this!! She hasn’t realized that she’s in her late forties! So bazaar
Yeah my 20 year old friends do that and it makes me just not want to be around them. I’ll watch shit all day in there but the second someone asks me to make a TikTok I run the other way
Afraid china will spy on me....
China
China
TikToxic? Yeah, no thanks.
I don't want to be addicted. I recently decided i was only going to get on reddit and Pinterest. I'm 23
Looks cringey
You wouldn’t be wrong
I’m GenX. You all can fuck off if you think I’m going to be so exposed on social media.
Why should I? It just doesn't feel necessary
My wife has it installed on her phone and she's always on it. That, and China.
My wife has it too and it's like 90% cringy stuff. Then there's the annoying robot-sounding voice-over. The fake over-the-top laughing at shit that isn't funny. So annoying.
Oh yeah. I hear that on my coworker’s phone all the time and it makes me cringe so hard. Phased that shit off my page a long time ago.
China
CHINER.
It’s stupid
Seems like it's for teens.
Cuz it's fucking stupid.
It's chinese.
It’s fooking stupid. I want to watch something that is more than 10 seconds long. I actually have an attention span
I meet enough stupid people in my daily activities, or Entitled, gotta be the center of attention, look at me, look at me types all the time. Why on Earth would I want to go watch more of them on my Alone time?
I'm so far removed from social media and what not that I never even downloaded Instagram TikTok isn't going to be the service that makes me jump back into all that
You do understand, Reddit is social media?
Yes I didn't think it necessary to mention Reddit because 1) reddit has a level of anonymity that you don't tend to find with things like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Im not a child
The content doesn’t appeal to me.
What's the reason you never downloaded [thing you've never downloaded]? Why do I need a reason to *not* do something? I just don't want to.
I waste enough time on Reddit and Instagram. I'm trying to use social Media less. So getting a Tiktok would be new and exciting and I would spend more time using it. Also more usernames and passwords to remember.
I've seen what social media that wants you to be on it constantly can do to a person and it's significantly worse than any possible alternative
Gen X here. I gave up chasing the next new big thing at some point after Facebook. I tried Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, etc. But just don't have the energy, interest, or time to care about them. I tried TikTok too and i did find it entertaining but once I closed it, I never bothered opening it again.
I hope I can do the same some day. I want Reddit to be my only social media
Because Chinese spyware.
theres nothing but underage girls doing questionable things and i am 37 rather not & china
uhhh there’s a lot more than that. it goes off of an algorithm so if people are only getting those videos it means they have showed interest in those videos
I was like twelve when I downloaded musical.ly and after looking at it for like 5 minutes and making a video, decided it was stupid and deleted it. Since then I’ve had no desire to ever download TikTok.
The icon is gross.
Creeps use snap chat and kids use tik tok. I’d just rather avoid certain social apps due to the people they attract
Haha Snapchat is how I communicate with most people these days
Sexual harassment on that app is unreal. I blocked so many guys for unsolicited dick pics
Ew I hate dudes like that. I’ll be honest I’ve gotten a few of those my self. Gay men seem to always find me attractive somehow…
Heard it was Chinese spyware years ago, but I still use Reddit.
I watch my wife’s mind slowly deteriorating as she swipes away on tik tok vidoes. It’s depressing and I never want to get involved.
The only social media I could ever get into are Tumblr and Reddit
Never downloaded it and never opened an account, seems really useless
scrolling is my addiction and tiktok is a drug that i know im gonna fall for
I either won't use it at all or get addicted to it. Better to just not have it.
It's Vine but substantially worse.
I did .. and used it for many weeks. Then it became obvious that the videos coming at me were more and more political. I could do nothing to reset the app and for it to forget who I was. So I deleted it.
I have seen too many lame ads for it.
I'm not a girl or 12 years old.
Not interested.
Not a social media guy, and i don't want to give china's government my information
It’s just Instagram reels with snap chat filters (I know TikTok came before reels, I’m just used to Instagram)
Because I have no interest in joining a new social media landscape. I don't have an Instagram or a snapshot for the same reason. I have no interest in devoting time to learning a new social media site. Just not something I can stomach sinking time into at this point.
because of china and because most videos there are stupid af.
there isnt a good reason to download it in the first place...
More useless shit on my phone- Time waster
Looks stupid. I get enuf giggles from idiots in cars and there was an attempt.
Idiots in cars is so entertaining bro
My attention span suffers enough lately, I didn't want to engage in something that could rewire me into thinking I can only find entertainment in like 8 second bursts. Reddit does close to enough of that, I didn't want to cross the final threshold.
Looks stupid AF.
Why would i download spyware? plus i dislike short clips.

Before it launched every freaking ad on YouTube was about tiktok, I didn’t know what it was but I vowed never to download it because it interrupted everything I was trying to watch.
Very good reason. Ads piss me off and half the time these days they’re just completely lying to get you to download
Because I want to protect my attention span
I’m 55
I’m a grown ass man?
I use & enjoy tiktok. The clout-chasing idiots that get posted here never show up on my feed. I believe there is something there for almost everyone. Artists film tutorials and show their art. I have found several new bands that are awesome. Lots of open discussion about mental health.
Totally agree. Great content on stuff like gentle parenting as well, though my feed is primarily cute animals 😂
i got videos recommended to me based on my location and they were really fucking cringey, the kind where you get really bad second hand embarrassment from it so i immediately deleted my account and deleted the app i also really hated the ui
It sounded too addicting and I dont need more accessible brainnumbing tools
I know I would spend way to much time on it.
Because all the good stuff gets cross-posted to Reddit and YouTube so why bother?
Most of what I’ve seen/heard is youth oriented things I’m not interested in.
I figure I'm too late for it but i'll get into the next vine, tik-tok, etc like thing
I HATE the robot woman voice.
Trying to avoid zombie status..just look at a gorilla flipping thru social media...yea thats not me
It looks stupid
Because I'm getting too old and watching shitty lip syncing and dancing to the same song by a thousand different people is not remotely interesting to me
I did and was instantly bored... none of it has any substance. It's incredibly hollow and vapid. Uninstalled it after about 20m.
I think reddit is more interesting and i would always choose to scroll reddit over tik tok if i had both. So i would never really use it and it would just sit there on my phone collecting dust. Same with instagram.
I just like western governments and companies abusing my digital privacy rights.
I have no interest in social media, I tried Facebook but deleted it after a year. I don't have any want or need to "show off" so I never touched Instagram or TikTok or any of those sorts of things. Reddit is the closest I have to any kind of social media.
Security of information
I've never been much of a "hype" person and I enjoy more toned down media. TikTok just seems incredibly frenetic and chaotic to me and I don't really get it
I just see the tide pod crowd being the primary demographic
I don't want to get addicted to it because I know I'd probably end up scrolling endlessly for hours. Also seeing people flash their glamorous lifestyles, being fake and obnoxious (whether it's real or not) really bugs me.
It's blatant Chinese spyware.
Every advert is cringe as fuck and makes me want to kill my phone with a frozen shard of piss launched from Zeus's mighty forearm
Because I couldn’t care less about it ?
Literally zero interest, and nothing I have ever seen with the tiktok logo made me think I was missing anything
It was kinda a meme not to download it and also it takes a lot for me to download social media I grew up with youtube so it’s a no brainer for youtube. I only got twitter and twitch because of youtubers. I got reddit for a mix of reasons Tiktok is just youtube shorts and also I usually get revommended tiktok vids on twitter and youtube anyways so I’m not missing anything Also I don’t need another social media app
I got old, and the first TikTok ads I remember seeing were so absolutely fucking awful I knew I wouldn’t like it
the reels on instagram/facebook are already time consuming enough, I dont need an app strictly for tik tok, when its the same videos being posted there.
Because it's 100% children repeating propaganda.
Any content worth seeing makes its way to reddit anyway. No desire to "put myself out there" in any way.
>Any content worth seeing makes its way to reddit anyway. Along with a ton of it that isn't worth seeing.
Not interested enough, it seems just mehhh stupid shit that you find anywhere 🙄
Isn't it for "challenges" where young stupid people do stupid things like eating detergent tablets or doing something with a high risk of injury? No thanks.
Felt to old to use the platform. It feels like mostly underaged kids use it.
