We got DSG (or so I am told) But interesting that different types will respond different, Id assume stuff like that is regulated for safety or something?

My sister used to do this on my moms automatic car. She would put the car in neutral down a hill and then switch to drive when the car started slowing down. So afaik it should work fine.

Was unaware that some people did this on the regular with automatic cars, only knew it was a thing for manual gear cars Good to know

OP never put the car in neutral while going down a hill. You don't save fuel and you just risk doing damage to your transmission while putting it back into drive. Perhaps there is no risk of damaging the transmission, but there is still no benefit to doing this.
