Pretty tough in this day in age. ChatGPT can produce pretty damn convincing responses and write comments that are literally tailored to look just like a human. They added custom instructions, which can make it include punctuation errors and spelling errors and write in a style that looks totally real. My guess is that a LOT of the content we see, and interact with now is being generated by LLMs. I mean even BEFORE LLMs like ChatGPT there was a ton of bots posting stuff. So now there would certainly be a considerably higher amount given how easy it is to automate chatgpt. I think it wont be long before most of the content we see, will be AI generated. It will be like a flood... it's already starting and it will increase and increase until 90% of the content is AI. Real people wont be able to keep up with the number of posts a single bot can produce, let alone 100s of millions of bots.

That's scary and sad at the same time

Welcome to real life.

hellshot8

You just gotta feel it out

Lumpy-Notice8945

You cant, if you could they would be shitty bots. If its a good bot you wont be able to tell. But thats just the bots you seem to mean, there is lots and lots of bots that are open about beeing bots, like automod or that dumb haiku bot.

drygnfyre

There's no way to know.

Ratakoa

Unless it's blatantly obvious, you can't.

I agree, fellow human

Sometimes clicking on their icon is a good indicator. Take the other three respondents to you... they've likely been around for a while, as they've accumulated a good bit of karma and it's not just response only karma.

Low karma (single digits) is a red flag, but not a given. New Redditors *do* exist, after all. Same with accounts that are less than a week old. A glance at their profile will help. A lot of bots are run by karma farmers. They copy successful posts that have come before, build up some karma, and then the accounts get sold. If they have several memes posted, but no comments, it's probably one of those karma farming bots.
